Yes!!!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 6, 2024 1:53 PM |
Do I hear a Walz?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 6, 2024 1:55 PM |
First do no harm. Great pick. I heard someone called Walz "Bernie and Biden put together." Makes sense.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 6, 2024 1:56 PM |
He needs a makeover.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 6, 2024 1:58 PM |
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
Harris-Walz are going to win this thing. I am thrilled. What a political summer - from Doom to Boom!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 6, 2024 1:59 PM |
You’re welcome
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 6, 2024 1:59 PM |
Balz to the Walz!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 6, 2024 2:00 PM |
Harrish Walsh.

Walz Summer.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 6, 2024 2:01 PM |
The wise choice. He was the safest pic.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 6, 2024 2:04 PM |
He coined the “weird” insult, so he wins.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 6, 2024 2:05 PM |
I wonder if Shapiro didn't want it.
Hear me out.
VPs seldom gain the presidency. He's young. He's doing a great job in PA and may want to build his track record that way. And, cold calculation, Harris/Whoever could lose this thing. He may be hedging his bets. By his age, Walz is BP material and nothing else in the long term. Shapiro may be biding his time out in the slow lane? The only downside I can see to not taking it is bird in the hand.
We'll see the media strategy this morning.
Walz will charm the country.
There was no bad choice. Onward!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 6, 2024 2:08 PM |
So glad it’s Walz and not Shapiro.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 6, 2024 2:09 PM |
Shapiro wanted it. The progressives blocked him.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 6, 2024 2:10 PM |
Walzsh!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 6, 2024 2:14 PM |
The scuttlebutt is, Shapiro 100% wanted it but had a few checkmarks in the "controversial?" column... and Walz was generating so much enthusiasm from the base especially from young people (surprisingly because he looks old). Younger voters, that's where Harris stands to gain the most vs how Biden was (under)performing. And Harris didn't know Walz that well and apparently they became total rapport besties. When you know, you know.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 6, 2024 2:15 PM |
And ,as always, Datalounge called it first!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 6, 2024 2:15 PM |
Wait, you mean Datalounge that up until Biden dropped out was saying he was fine and anyone who didn't think he should serve another 4 years was named Boris? That Datalounge?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 6, 2024 2:19 PM |
Oh well. Shapiro would have shook things up. Two Progressives on the ticket is a gift to Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 6, 2024 2:21 PM |
Datalounge “called it” every way possible.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 6, 2024 2:23 PM |
And I bet he’s never dated his couch or took it to prom!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 6, 2024 2:24 PM |
R21, a VP shaking things up is far from a good thing. I find Shapiro an exciting candidate, but that doesn’t make him a good VP candidate.

America's grandpa! The kind old man archetype works when you're not visibly senile.

He's not even that old! He and Kamala are about the same age.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 6, 2024 2:41 PM |
r26 but he looks like he could be your nice pop pop, that's all that matters. kamala looks much younger than she is, so people perceive her as such.

Young people see him as the teacher they liked in middle school…or the teacher they wish they had. A guy who can take a ribbing and hand it back at you effortlessly, but then gets back to the subject of the class. He makes it interesting and you can understand it. He probably didn’t give homework. He’s the kind of teacher who says, “I’m nit giving you homework. What I’m asking is that you think about x,y,z for tomorrow’s class, ok?”
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 6, 2024 3:38 PM |
When Walz is smiling, it takes 10 years off.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 6, 2024 3:45 PM |
I agree that folks saying he's "old white guy" will warm up to him when they see him more. Grew up on a farm, hunter, sgt in National Guard, HS teacher, football coach and sponsor of Gay/Straight alliance in his school... and a strong, popular, effective, progressive governor of midwestern state (executive experience).
Runs five miles every day, still hunts and has been a strong supporter of gun control... and has a great sense of humor, and is quick and articulate.
Strong pick, not just a safe pick.
Now, let's go win this thing!!!

Daughter born via IVF.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 6, 2024 4:07 PM |
r29, I agree
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 6, 2024 4:08 PM |
His glasses make him look younger too, oddly.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 6, 2024 4:13 PM |
I like him! Seems really progressive, and has that "favorite uncle at the cookout" vibe that will go over well with just about everyone. They picked the right one out of a strong pool of options.

Steve Kornacki is pointing out that Walz has not done better than Biden and Clinton in the rural parts of Minnesota, so the idea that he will appeal to rural voters may be unsound.

That's not apples-to-apples R36. State politics is very contest-specific. And the VP role on the campaign trail is quite different than being the main candidate for a state election. Walz is already proving himself to be excellent in his new role.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 6, 2024 5:06 PM |
He is sixty but looks like 75. A reverse Datalounger.
