I always tip well because I heard they won't pick up your order when you don't give a decent tip. But today they really screwed up my order and I wish I could subtract some of that tip. I had knee surgery so am not driving at the moment.
I hate that you have to tip before you get your order on Door Dash

Teens don't want to work fast food any more, you are not getting the cream of the crop working the drive thru
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 4, 2024 9:53 PM |
The tip is for the driver so an order screw up is on the restaurant… just do the refund request and then talk to support to see if they can comp more than they do automatically through the app.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 4, 2024 9:56 PM |
I thought Door Dash lets you adjust the tip after delivery. but most say you shouldn't. Unfortunately, a lot of people do this, even when there are no issues with the order, just so they can entice someone to actually pick up their order. It's called Tip Baiting.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 4, 2024 9:58 PM |
You can only change the tip before they even pick it up and the order is in the "preparing the food" mode

by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 4, 2024 10:19 PM |
As a DoorDash driver on my off time, the driver doesn't screw up the order...the establishment does. The only way a driver can screw it up is if they have multiple orders and leaves you the wrong one. 100% of the time you pick up the order from the restaurant already packaged, sealed, and sitting on a shelf. Please consider that when adjusting tips.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 4, 2024 10:20 PM |
There delivery services suck. About one out of three orders has somethibg wrong with it. That's too high for doordash and uber eats in terms of requesting refunds for incorrect or missing items and exile they will continue to take your money, they WILL ban you from any further refunds no matter how much evidence you have. Not even video of the guy delivering it and you opening it will get around thst block. And if you fo a chargrbavk, they will ban uput account entirely. They enable thiever. Just pick it up yourself.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 4, 2024 10:20 PM |

R6 you know that DoorDash gets like a 30% cut of the order. Consider calling the restaurant directly and placing your order, especially if a small, local business.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 4, 2024 10:46 PM |
Why can't Door Dash check the order? You can't assume it's correct. When we pick up an order we assume they fucked it up and check before leaving the premises.

I didn't expect to have to go into this much detail to satisfy people, but I'll explain that I use DoorDash when they send me a discount code, typically 25% off. As I have told co-workers, you just have to not use DoorDash for a while and then they will send you an offer to entice you back, like 25% off your next three orders.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 4, 2024 11:13 PM |

I've never held up any line, cunt. If it's drive-thru my partner checks while I wait for my credit card. He just counts the items. We don't open everything up and taste them. If it's restaurant I pay, leave the store and check in the car.

I doubt that many people are taking more than 30 seconds to check.. and people can wait. Itd take more time for everyone if you drove off and the order was wrong, and you had to circle back and make them fix it. I'm going to check.

I've noticed this summer many of the restaurants in my area who offer 'Uber Eats' and 'Door Dash' (stickers on the doors when you go in) have a sign at the take-out counter which simply says, "Save money with our free delivery! Order directly from us." When I picked up my pizza yesterday, I asked the worker if people are paying attention and ordering directly through them. She said an enthusiastic "YES!" She then said 'people are so done with Door Dash and other services and their crazy fees'.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 5, 2024 12:01 AM |
I;m not sure why anyone would try to begrudge the delivery person a decent tip. That is the bulk of their earning income, just like waiters. If your food is delivered warm and in a reasonable amount of waiting time, you should have a standard tipping percentage or flat amount. If the food is bad or there is a mix-up it is the fault of the restaurant, not the delivery person.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 5, 2024 1:10 AM |
But also remember that the volume of food or cost of food doesn’t really effect the effort required to deliver said food. You tip for the trip, not the order.

The last time I used Door Dash my order was screwed up, it took days to get a refund, they transferred me to 3 different people about it and basically treated me like a criminal. The last time I used Ubereats the driver took my order to the wrong house. They refunded the cost of the order but not the tip and I couldn’t believe their shitty customer service.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 5, 2024 3:15 AM |
Uber Eats is foul, r37. I accidentally messed up my order and when I tried to change it, they said it was too late. When I asked to cancel the order, they told me that they would charge me not just for the order but also an extra $15 because the driver was on his way to pick up the order. I had ordered from a local deli and accidentally ordered two orders of potato salad instead of potato salad and I pastrami on rye.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 5, 2024 1:23 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 5, 2024 10:45 PM |
No. I wasn’t exaggerating at all. It was quite obvious they didn’t believe me even though the receipt proved I was right. I’ve had issues with GrubHub and Instacart screwing up and you don’t even have to call them, they give you a refund instantly through their website. Door Dash took days and only after I called several times.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 6, 2024 3:10 AM |
Both Uber Earts and Door Dash will quickly treat you like a criminal if you complain about missing or incorrect items too much. And anyone who orders a lot of food from different restaurants knows that happens ALL the fucking time. Grub Hub is a little more lenient and will keep refunding for longer before acting like you're making it up. But really, the restaurants don't care enough to get the orders right with third party delivery services since "someone else will take care of it". And the drivers are also shady sometimes and help themselves to a side dish if your not entire fucking meal.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 6, 2024 3:42 AM |
R46. I'm sure a driver ate your "entire fucking meal." Does it make you feel like less of a disaster to lie about food delivery services?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 6, 2024 3:46 AM |
r47, what the hell is your problem? What is so hard about understanding that missing items happen all the time? And OK, when they don't deliver it, then what do you think they do with it? Shove it up their ass? That's less common than the "missing items" scenario, sure, but it happens. And you are awfully defensive of these services. Are you so much of a disaster that you're a delivery driver?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 6, 2024 3:51 AM |

When you're in a situation where you need to be driven somewhere or when you need food delivered it's such a relief to not have to bother anyone else and you can just call these businesses, out of convenience or out of necessity. I've had excellent experiences with them and I gladly tip the drivers well because they really deserve to be compensated for providing these services. I hate to hear the cynicism about companies that have really helped me out at times, and I'm hoping these businesses continue to thrive. Anyone here who does this for a living, please know that there are a lot of people who really do appreciate you.

I am not making it up, I can laugh about it now but it was frustrating when it happened and I assume she was already screwing up so didn't want any more bad reviews. I just didn't review her so I avoided having to give any stars or a bad review, but I did have to report that I didn't get the order. This was back when I was avoiding stores during Covid so I tried to be patient.

DoorDash has done well by me. One order went to the wrong address, but DoorDash made the refund easily. Favor fucked up my grocery delivery and the grocery chain was horrible about the refund (it took seven weeks and umpteen phone calls to get a refund that came to just under $100). There was something ambiguous about my old address. I also received multiple orders that belonged to other people. And Favor seems to hire a lot of people who speak no English, so it isn't easy to straighten things out. My Spanish is limited.
I'm disabled and can no longer drive, so I depend on delivery services.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 7, 2024 4:07 AM |
Are you sure the dasher screwed it up and not the restaurant? Most orders are given in a sealed bag that the dasher isn't allowed to open to even inspect. Also, some orders don't show the dasher the ticket or the items on the order, instead saying 'order requested by merchant, we don't know the items on the order' - so they'd have no way of knowing if there was a mistake. If the food was too cold, it's highly unlikely the dasher did anything but try to get to you as quickly as possible - they could have been assigned well after it was finished, the restaurant could have ignored them and blown them off for 5, 10, 15 minutes while the order was ready and waiting. The least likely element to cause a problem with your food is the driver.

Think of tipping as a social service. I hate these E slave services. They do allow people a job who would otherwise be sub employable. At the end of the day though they are paid very little. California had the opportunity to vote for such services to be not contractor, but employers. The citizen chose the servitude option , to stay contractors. The companies did heavily lobby and advertise to remain contractor status. The people were fooled again. Ahh Democracy at the service of the few.

My most recent problem was with GrubHub R83. I had pre-tipped $3.00 on a single lunch order coming from about a mile away. I then got involved in doing things around my security-gated apartment, so some time went by before it dawned on me that I had not received a call over the intercom. I checked the app, which indicated my lunch had indeed been delivered.
I set out to look for it and found it sitting [italic]on the sidewalk outside the lobby door.[/italic] And it was ice cold. Then began the nightmare of dealing with GrubHub customer service (located in some call center somewhere), who initially only offered me a $5 credit on a future order. I eventually got them to agree to refund the cost of the meal [bold]but not the tip[/bold]. This made absolutely no sense to me, as the delivery person was clearly at fault. After more back-and-forth, GrubHub agree to refund the total amount, tip and all.
When I checked my credit card statement a couple weeks later, the total charge was still there, so I'm now disputing it.

R85 is the root of the issue.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 8, 2024 8:22 PM |
r86 their order was delivered to them later or refunded. Walmart ate the cost of the mistake, to your benefit. Don't feel bad. Amazon Germany does this with me on mistakes. 20% of the time they say destroy the order, end of issue. There's an online shop in Switzerland that does drop shipping and sells "used" versions of some items. The items are not used they are sometimes returns or sometimes carton damage. I ordered a $300 cast iron casserole, gigantic, the other day and asked for the "used" one they offered at the last minute for 50 bucks. They shipped it and it was new but the lid didn't lie flat. I asked for a return. They said it's heavy, destroy it and well ship you another. they shipped me the perfect 300 dollar one.
I don't understand e-commerce models, but it's filled with surprises nowadays. I think in fact prices are completely artificial and almost everything has very little value so the companies are just eating the low costs of mistakes. Because most of what they sell is marked up astronomically.

Base pay starts at two dollars in most markets. It’s going to get rejected and bounced around if you don’t pre tip. Then you’ll end up with cold food. I think grub hub or Uber eat let you remove a tip, some lovely customers tip bait so they can get their orders picked up and dropped off promptly only to remove it.

I take care to try to pinpoint the problem: the restaurant mixed up or bungled the order, or the food was not prepared well or cold, or the delivery was estimated at 10 minutes but took 45 with multiple interim stops and my food was cold. Almost always it´s a probem of the restaurant or the delivery service assigning too many orders to one delivery person. Only once was it an issue of promptness on the part of the delivery person.
