Judith Light

Is it possible to be any more generous, grand, chic, talented and intelligent? Soaps, sitcoms, Ryan Murphy fantasias… but, also, two Tony Awards and one of the first and most vocal LGBT advocates. This is a thread to celebrate how fabulous she was, is and always will be. Here’s a 4-hour interview to begin the discussion…

I want to look up her scenes in the new Dallas (the “reboot”) from a few years back.

Based on what little I did see, she nailed the role of a brash Texas businesswoman in cahoots with John Ross and vying for power.

by Anonymousreply 1August 2, 2024 4:47 AM

Jean Smart.

by Anonymousreply 2August 2, 2024 5:33 AM

One of the greatest actresses ever.

by Anonymousreply 3August 2, 2024 5:35 AM

R1 at one point her character taunted John Ross with what might happen to him if he went to prison

She reveled in it

by Anonymousreply 4August 2, 2024 5:48 AM

She’s no Robin Strasser.

by Anonymousreply 5August 2, 2024 5:53 AM

Angela

OP - you will love this clip if you've never seen it - (as will any fans of Llanview)....and I'm talking about the interview, not the tired courtroom clip we've already seen hundreds of times.....

TALBOT HUDDLESTON!!!!

by Anonymousreply 8August 2, 2024 7:30 AM

She’s really great onstage. Much like Laurie Metcalf, her television work is no indication of her strength as a performer. I saw her in both of her Tony award winning performances and would jump at the chance to see her again

by Anonymousreply 9August 2, 2024 7:52 AM

I first saw Judith when she was acting in the Milwaukee Repertoire Theatre years ago. It was obvious to everyone who saw her that she was going to move on to bigger and better opportunities. I agree with R9's comparison to Laurie Metcalf - her TV work "is no indication of her strength as a performer."

Just when I thought Datalounge couldn’t get any gayer…

by Anonymousreply 17August 3, 2024 4:03 AM

She was a hoot on Dallas TNT. Deliciously soapy and evil.

Damn I loved that show and it was all because of her.

R3 = Judith Light

by Anonymousreply 21August 3, 2024 3:39 PM

I still remember her BIG SCENE on One Life to Live when her character Karen finally broke down and confessed to her husband Larry that she was formerly -gasp-choke-sob- A PROS-TI-TUUUUTE!

by Anonymousreply 22August 3, 2024 5:27 PM

She was so good in Dallas. I'd love to see her play more villain roles.

by Anonymousreply 23August 3, 2024 5:42 PM

On Dallas, didn’t she play Mitch Pileggi’s mother??? They are basically the same age.

by Anonymousreply 24August 3, 2024 5:46 PM

A COMMON WHORE!

by Anonymousreply 25August 3, 2024 6:04 PM

Something so grating and false about her on Transparent. My god, she was bad. A good actress in the right thing.

by Anonymousreply 26August 3, 2024 10:53 PM

Brilliant actress.

Her courtroom scene on One Life to Live was used in acting schools for many years to teach students.

She was superb in Wit on Broadway. She should have gotten the movie version.

by Anonymousreply 27August 3, 2024 11:12 PM

She looks like something you'd see in one of the Italian crypt bone chapel

by Anonymousreply 28August 3, 2024 11:19 PM

R27 The acting school thing has to be urban myth

by Anonymousreply 29August 3, 2024 11:19 PM

“one of the first and most vocal LGBT advocates…”. Pure bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 30August 3, 2024 11:21 PM

[quote]The acting school thing has to be urban myth

Have you seen it? It's excellent. And it's a slow burn leading up to a huge emotional buildup. She brought warm and pathos to a one dimensional role that could have easily been a toss off.

A lot of accomplished actors and actresses cut their teeth on soap operas back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 31August 3, 2024 11:21 PM

R22. Wasn't "formerly." She was taking that dirty dick until Sleestack was arrested for killing "Marco." She liked it.

by Anonymousreply 32August 3, 2024 11:57 PM

Isn’t she a lezbo?

by Anonymousreply 33August 4, 2024 12:51 AM

R31, the scene was very similar to Monique's performance in Precious.

by Anonymousreply 34August 4, 2024 1:22 AM

I don’t like her atall.

by Anonymousreply 35August 4, 2024 1:33 AM

R34. Did Larry suck on Karen's tittie too?

by Anonymousreply 36August 4, 2024 1:52 AM

R36, it wasn't Larry, it was Marco Dane.

by Anonymousreply 37August 4, 2024 1:54 AM

R35. But she's my BEST friend in the whole WIDE world!!!!

by Anonymousreply 38August 4, 2024 1:55 AM

And some pretend it never happened.

by Anonymousreply 39August 4, 2024 1:59 AM

lol. Remembering when someone called her BIGFACE THAYER

by Anonymousreply 43August 5, 2024 10:34 PM

TALBOT HUDDLESTON!

by Anonymousreply 44August 6, 2024 1:28 AM

I AM A COMMON HOOKER!!!!

by Anonymousreply 45August 6, 2024 4:46 AM

R43 - I think it was common knowledge that Gerald was bisexual. He was only married to Brynn for less than 2 years. It was either a bearding situation or she found out quick what he was into.

by Anonymousreply 46August 6, 2024 5:55 AM

R46. She claims it was real love. LOVE!!!!

by Anonymousreply 47August 6, 2024 9:55 PM

Judith Lights last OLTL episode. Montage at the end.
