I'm not a shill, but I've been looking for "background TV" ever since I cut the cord and lost TCM. Tubi is perfect; they have a great selection of old movies, especially the "Bs" and old TV shows. I've even discovered some things that I didn't know existed, like this 'I Love Lucy' knockoff called 'I Married Joan.' Great fun if you haven't gotten on the Tubi train.
I am addicted to Tubi

I need to check it out

It has Gardener’s World for free.

Tubi reminds me of walking into Blockbuster - no interest in 95% of the offerings, but so often stumble upon a never-seen-before movie that becomes a favorite.

A few nights ago I watched "Rona Jaffe's Mazes & Monsters" on Tubi — Tom Hanks' first lead role as an unbalanced college student who gets addicted to a Dungeons & Dragons type game. Really a time capsule and fun to see Vera Miles and Susan Strasberg attempt to do a "relevant" 1980s movie.
Tubi is indeed that huge, unsorted video store with some real finds.

I watched Go Ask Alice and Queen of the Stardust Ballroom on it. Two old movies I'd heard about but wasn't able to find elsewhere. It really is a cool service.
I'm starting The Death of Richie now (it was suggested after Alice). Looks like another teenage drug story. (Not much suspense about the ending though, it starts with Richie's funeral.)

Tubi has a great catalogue of documentaries as well as movies. I love it even with the commercial breaks. It's a chance to see some strange stuff not available anywhere else.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 2, 2024 10:28 AM |
They have a lot of gay films I've never heard of before, especially films from Europe.
They also have a lot of films by directors I like.
For the past month or so I've been watching the Merchant-Ivory and Woody Allen films they have, and I'm looking forward to watching several movies by the Taviani Brothers, Mizogichi and other directors.
The commercial breaks are irritating but they're less disruptive than the ones on Pluto (an overrated streaming service with a comparatively limited selection in terms of both variety and in quantity of movies).
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 2, 2024 10:43 AM |
I prefer Pluto TV. It's all I need-- I could live without any streaming service as long as I had Pluto TV. I guess you could say I'm a massive fan boy.

Tubi has a TON of movies that aren't displayed on its homepage. To view the ENTIRE catalog, you have to do a search. I spent a good chunk of a night going through it.

I'd wanted to see The Big Town (Matt Dillon as a gambler in rockabilly outfits in 1950s Chicago) for years. Never was streaming anywhere but it just cropped up on Tubi and I'm enjoying it.
Tubi also has Hanky Panky with Gilda Radner and Gene Wilder when no other service does — but I suspect it doesn't hold up.

TUBI recommendations:
Krypton - Season 1 was amazing. So disappointed it only lasted two seasons. But Cameron Cuffe was sexy as fuck! So was Shaun Sipos who played bisexual Adam Strange. I even thought the actor who played Kem was hot. His name is Rasmus Hardiker. Adam Pierre who played Dev-Em was hot too. So damned many hot guys for one show.
HUM∀NS = Another show that only got three seasons. Also full of hot guys. Will Tudor. Colin Morgan. Sam Palladio. Dino Fetscher.
But even more than the hot guys, both shows had excellent, excellent writing and acting.
Check both shows out if you can.

Cameron Cuffe is the main reason to watch Krypton.

I've looked at their listings and I get the sense that the only people who watch what's on there are the actors in the shows and movies.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 20, 2024 4:30 AM |
They have a lot of cool film noirs on there!

Tubi has a lot of shows that were good but were cancelled.
I actually love it, because I really liked a lot of these cancelled shows, but I never thought I'd see them on television again.
Thankfully, they're re-playing them on streaming services like Tubi.

Tubi is the only place I’ve found where you can watch a great French gay film “Paris 05:59: Théo & Hugo” which starts with a 20 minute explicit orgy scene but ends up being a sweet romance that takes place in real time.

Too many commercials. No thank you.

Tubi has such a diverse inventory that I immediately go to it for older films before Prime. I'm talking Argento to Sleepaway Camp III.
Also? The most absurd, ghetto, indy Black films ALL go to Tubi.

I got hooked on Tubi when I saw that they had "The Boys."
I got to watch seasons 1 through 3 for free, but I have to subscribe to Amazon Prime if I want to watch season 4.

As someone else mentioned, they have a fairly extensive collection of LGBT films. Some of those aren't available elsewhere or you would have to pay for them. I've seen a number of gay themed South American films that were pretty good. I love me some Latino men!

Between Tubi, FreeVee (jwhich is being discontinued soon), YouTube "free with ads", and Roku, I always find something to watch, and review. I'll take some short ads and not get nickel and dimed by various channels or cable deals that soar after one year.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 20, 2024 12:12 PM |
Shit!
"The Boys" was on Amazon Prime's FreeVee, and not Tubi.
My mistake.

To each his own R9, but I have another reason for disliking Pluto, and it began this month.
Now when you go to their On Demand options, they no longer have the LGBTQ category if you're looking to check out their gay movie selections.
(And FWIW Pluto's gay selections are - or were - paltry when compared with the gay stuff on Tubi.)

Freevee is leaving? Oh no.....where will I see Judy Justice and Dark Shadows?

It's being folded into Amazon Prime's ad-supported tier.

R20 I haven't even finished S4 of "The Boys." Although I appreciate the obvious undertones of S4 and how much it ruffled the feathers of MAGAts who were smart enough to get it, I just wasn't feeling it.

I watched this movie last night, based on your recommendation, and the first 30 minutes was basically hard core gay porn!!
I was amazed by that, even though orgies are not really my thing.
Unfortunately, I only lasted through the first 35 or so minutes, because I started dozing off (it was late).
But I couldn't understand how the hot, tall dark haired guy fell for the short curly haired guy. And he kept following him around, which I thought was hilarious.
In the real world, the dark haired guy wouldn't even notice that short, little curly haired troll.
I have to watch the rest of the movie to see what happens.
R17 mentioned that it's a love story, so I'm assuming they end up together in the end.
Also, what was that scene with him going straight to the hospital after the orgy, all about?

The actor from Paris 05:59 is so handsome.
His name is François Nambot, and now I have a huge crush on him.

Sometimes I watch the old public domain movies on Digital Drive In. No commercials - but the film quality isn't so hot.
