I was surprised at how beautiful Richard Burton was when young. James Spader kept his looks into early middle age and then hit the wall.

Johnny Depp looked good until his mid 40s. However, I never saw his appeal. His face is too dour and arrogant looking, and he only looks good with shaggy hair. The cleanshaven, slicked-back hair doesn't look good on him, like Public Enemies or Donnie Brasco.

I would add Tom Cruise to this list. Not that he's unattractive by any means, but due to plastic surgery, colored/overly done hair (wig?) and just overall oddness, he doesn't seem to be aging into the kind of elder statesmen that you might expected. Granted, being an action hero is his trade, but if you look at Liam Neeson, he's considered an action star but while he's had work done, he doesn't look like Weirdo Muppet the way Cruise does
