The spokesperson said there have been 25 promotions with pay increases in the last 18 months. But one move in particular rankled the workers.
One staffer rose swiftly through the ranks, getting three promotions over two years, reaching a position that reports directly to the CEO. The person spoke openly to colleagues about having a close friendship with co-founder Lovett and talked about staying at his home to dog-sit. Earlier this year, the two informed the human resources department that they were dating.
Yikes.
Staffers purposefully placed links to pro-Palestinian news coverage in an internal Slack channel to ensure the founders and top executives saw it, hoping to encourage discussion. They changed the status emoji next to their names to a watermelon, which has become a symbol of support for Palestine. I'm not a big fan of the Pod Save America hosts, but I notice that a lot of the criticism of them on DL comes from just one or two posters who post repeatedly in a thread.
In this thread OP = R1 = R4 = R5 = R8.
The Pod Save America hosts took a lot of shit for saying after the debate that Biden wasn't fit to stay in the race and should drop out. They said Kamala Harris or another Democrat would be a better choice. Tim Miller at the Bulwark also took a lot of shit for saying the same thing. But it turns out they were 100% correct.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 2, 2024 12:02 PM |
R15 Wasn't almost every man and their dog saying Biden should drop out after the debate? It wasn't really a controversial opinion. I guess a few might get upset but when you have an opinion based podcast if you're not making a few people upset occasionally you're probably not offering much of an opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 2, 2024 1:29 PM |
No, definitely not r16. Go back and look at old DL threads. A lot of people were saying that Biden should absolutely stay in the race, 100%, this was all about one bad night, Democrats need to stop panicking, etc, etc, etc
I know, I was one of them. Then it did sink in that no, this is actually a huge and probably insurmountable problem. But no, it was not some universal consensus that Biden needed to drop out. And a lot of people in progressive radio and with various online shows were very sure he should NOT drop out.

After Tim Miller criticized Biden's debate performance and said he should drop out, he was harassed with homophobic slurs. Biden supporters on social media even created a special hashtag, #ByeTimMiller, to threaten him and post pictures of his family.
"The fact that these lunatics keep posting pictures of my family for the crime of observing that Biden is losing this campaign and losing ground with black voters is reminiscent of the MAGA shit I got in 2016," Miller tweeted. "Call me an asshole! Call me wrong! But my god, stop with this shit."

The employees in this also sound obnoxious (watermelon emojis and appropriating another culture’s headgear? these are cosplay leftists) but that is what happens when you only pay enough to hire spoiled 20-somethings who are taking the jobs because they think they are doing the Lord’s work.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 2, 2024 9:52 PM |
Admittedly I stopped listening to them and all other political podcasts after the debate because it was too awful. Fortunately for us, things have turned around and they’re back in rotation.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 2, 2024 10:02 PM |
R15 let’s not have the revisionist history. They were calling for a contested convention or “mini primary” which would have been a disaster and rendered the Ohio ballot (which must be confirmed by August 7th) invalid. They also told their listeners to call their congresspeople and tell them to denounce Biden which was damaging to those downballot races. They were aggressive and arrogant about it and they never said they wanted Kamala as the replacement. Tim and Lovett especially have mocked Kamala a lot for the past five years — they were doing it on Tim’s show the day after the debate. They do not get credit for the smooth transition of candidates when they were specifically not calling for that. That was the work of the Democratic National Committee working the phones in spite of the pod guys and rich donors calling for chaos, not because of them.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 2, 2024 10:03 PM |
As a Ronan fan I feel vindicated. Lovett was so happy to play the victim and let everyone assume Ronan cheated on him and meanwhile he was banging the dogsitter, who is also his employee, in the house Ronan paid for. Wild stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 2, 2024 10:13 PM |
They were calling for a contested convention or “mini primary”
So were nearly all of the people urging Biden to drop out, including not only podcasters and pundits but many Democratic members of Congress. The "Pod Save America" hosts were hardly the first or only people to suggest a mini primary. Even Jim Clyburn, one of Biden's biggest advocates, said there would probably need to be a mini primary if Biden stepped down.
The feeling was that automatically selecting Harris might look like a coronation without giving voters a voice. There were also legitimate concerns because Harris' 2020 primary campaign had been a train wreck. There were valid reasons to think that a mini primary might be needed. But as it turned out, everyone quickly coalesced around Harris, no one came forward to challenge her, and she turned out to be a much stronger campaigner than most people had expected. Everyone is happy, but you're apparently still bitter.
They also told their listeners to call their congresspeople and tell them to denounce Biden which was damaging to those downballot races.
Actually, it was Biden's weakness as a candidate that was threatening to hurt downballot races and scaring the shit out of Democratic Senate and congressional candidates.
That was the work of the Democratic National Committee working the phones in spite of the pod guys and rich donors calling for chaos, not because of them.
I only sporadically listen to the "Pod Save America" hosts, but I would be surprised if they actually have taken personal credit for the smooth transition to Harris.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 2, 2024 10:35 PM |
R28 Clyburn actually stated clearly many times that he supported Biden as the candidate and if Biden were not the candidate he’d be supporting Kamala.
And I’m not any more pleased with anyone else in the media (or anywhere) who wanted to throw over the whole ticket and have a contested convention or “mini primary” which is not something there is even a process for in DNC rules. I think anyone that was saying “hey let’s relive 1968 just for fun” is either a fool or a saboteur. I was speaking specifically of the pod guys here because that is who this thread is about.

R32 even if there was nothing romantic going on at the time, an employee staying in your house is inappropriate in and of itself. I’m surprised this didn’t become an HR issue sooner.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 2, 2024 11:22 PM |
And this is why everyone should fight tooth and nail to never, ever, ever become a corporation. Corporations are some fucked up, neurotic, annoying, bullshit places, and you never ever want to have some fucking "team" of cunts and assholes running the place. Do what you gotta do, try to make a little money along the way, but never, ever let the words CEO or Human Resources Department get anywhere near what you are doing.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 2, 2024 11:27 PM |
R37 usually I would agree but since one of them was banging the staff it sounds like they did actually need an HR department.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 2, 2024 11:29 PM |
The timing is weird. As of mid-February Lovett was saying he was totally single. Then he was in Fiji filming SURVIVOR for May into early June. So, sometime in between there he walked into HR and said hey I’ve just started dating one of the employees and also I’ll be taking 6 weeks off to film a reality TV show?
I know he’s a founder and presumably a major shareholder but I would think that kind of behavior would get you nudged out.
As for the rest of it — the founders really should not have all bought fancy houses at the same time, it was bound to cause resentment. They started podcasting at the perfect time in its heyday and probably no one is ever going to get as rich as they did doing it. It is inevitable that eventually they will have to scale back their operation as it’s just not sustainable anymore so I’m not surprised the union is focused on protections in the event of layoffs.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 3, 2024 3:05 AM |
The revisionism for something that just happened last month is stunning.
They were incredibly disrespectful to President Biden, demanded that he be removed and were all for - not Kamala Harris - but for an open convention.
The “we were right” brigade has been rearing their ugly heads on social media and they would do well to read the room and STFU. They actually lost.
There is a big difference between forcing Biden off the ticket - as corporate media, with whom Crooked Media aligned themselves, tried to do - binning Kamala Harris and advocating for weeks of reality tv show competitions to find a completely new candidate that no one had ever voted for but had the backing of elite Democrats and what Biden did, which was voluntarily step aside and endorse his running mate for the top of the ticket, thereby maintaining the support and momentum of the grassroots of the party. That you still have these idiot white guys - not just Crooked - who were actually planning a coup of the Democratic Party and relentlessly threw Biden under the bus, week after week now trying to redeem themselves by saying, “See? We were right,” is disgusting. The same way they’re trying to re-write history now. They were not right. If they had their way, the Democratic Party still wouldn’t have a candidate - their plan was to take the entire month of August and put white guys to the front and have them selected by corporate media fiat by the 30th of August, leaving a power vacuum at the core of the party, a complete “Democrats in Disarray” narrative lasting all month which they were convinced of, even though it only left about 2.5 weeks until early voting started in mid-September for the “chosen” candidate to make an impact. There wouldn’t be any historic single dollar donations from actual voters, their candidate would be bought and paid for by Democratic elites at the last moment. It was about total “white guy” “we’ve got this” “this is OUR party” power. They were ready to throw the back bone of the party - black women voters - under the bus and completely smit them and take their support for granted.
And thankfully that’s not what happened. Biden took his own time, played a blinder, made a heroic decision to step aside and within 20 minutes of that announcement, endorsed his VP Kamala Harris for President. Not for the nomination. But for President. And she was ready to go. The rest is history, that foiled the intentions of these jerks and others like them, perhaps more importantly, corporate media. (You saw the remnants of this the following afternoon when Michael Bloomberg was like, “Hang on, not so fast, I think we should…” and somebody obviously told him to sit down, that Kamala Harris, with Biden’s support, had this.)
Political party machinations can be subtle and completely missed by the casual observer - the same way people probably don’t remember that there were ridiculous stories published in the days right after 9/11 of, somehow, fire fighters riding the tower down to the ground as it fell - uh huh - and how a terrorist’s passport was found in the rubble, on the ground - sure, Jan - but those stories were published and last month there was an attempted coup of the Democratic Party by corporate media and their allies, and they were relentless, using and playing upon long-held right-wing talking points and the only objective they shared with the Biden campaign was change at the top of the ticket and everything else - how Biden was treated, who ended up on the ticket and how that was achieved - was completely different.
It says a lot about their thirst for power now that they’re trying to revise their position and not only say, “We were right,” but also demand apologies from those who disagreed with their treatment of Biden and the methods they wanted to employ. They can go fuck themselves. These were the “WE’LL figure it out” bros who were willing to plunge the party into absolute, purgatorial chaos for an entire month, just three months before Election Day. Again, despite the victory they’re trying to claim now, they lost.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 3, 2024 12:38 PM |
Lovett's new partner is a biological woman who is nonbinary and goes by 'they,' not 'he.' He discusses it in the last three minutes of this video. Some are surprised by this but the Farrow relationship suggested an attraction to androgyny.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 3, 2024 1:00 PM |
So Lovett’s not gay?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 3, 2024 1:10 PM |
Lovett may also identify as nonbinary eventually, I think. He’s said some things to that effect and I believe lists pronouns as he/they.
I don’t know how androgynous you can consider Ronan other than that he is pretty. First thing he did after they broke up was become obsessed with bodybuilding and also got a gym rat boyfriend who is into leather. It seems like they both reacted by leaning into different angles of the gender spectrum.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 3, 2024 1:11 PM |
R49 he still identifies as gay but he has said before that maybe he wouldn’t have chosen that label if there was a broader understanding of gender when he was in his formative years. Which was the first hint he was dating (or interested in dating) a trans/nonbinary person.

It casts Farrow's post-breakup transformation in a new light and makes you wonder how much was 'single and ready to mingle' versus knowing (or suspecting) his partner of 11 years had developed feelings for this employee/friend turned partner.

He also said that if Biden stepped down there would probably be a mini primary.
Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn, a top ally of Joe Biden, said Wednesday that if the president steps aside from the election, he would expect to see a “mini-primary” ahead of the Democratic National Convention with Kamala Harris and Democratic governors vying for the top two spots on the party’s ticket.
Responding to a question on CNN about whether Harris should be the party’s automatic nominee if the president were to step aside or if there should be a “mini-primary” between several candidates, Clyburn (D-S.C.) said: “Well, I think we’re going to have a mini-primary leading into the convention,” describing the virtual roll call needed to appear on the Ohio ballot.
[bold] He added, “You can actually fashion the process that’s already in place to make it a mini-primary, and I would support that absolutely. We can’t close that down, and we should open up everything for the general election.” [/bold]

R52 It’s pretty clear they had an open relationship but if you believe Datalounge rumors (discussed in previous threads) there were specific rules to it including not hooking up with others in their homes. And considering part of this story was this employee was staying in Lovett’s home at times…the math is mathing.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 3, 2024 2:03 PM |
R57 They have transitioned and present as masc of center. They just identify as nonbinary. I’m sure you can wrap your mind around this if you try.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 3, 2024 2:05 PM |
If Jon's new partner is who the Crooked Media clues point toward, they're on testosterone and present as male, but you would know they're AFAB (assigned female at birth, for the uninitiated) if your paths crossed. Insert obligatory Seinfeldian 'not that there's anything wrong with that' here, which I mean sincerely.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 3, 2024 2:10 PM |
R60 there certainly isn’t anything wrong with dating a trans person but the fact that it’s an employee who is a lot younger than him is a problem. It’s going to negatively impact their career, and they might not have the experience or foresight to see that now. It already has affected it, because whatever current or former employees talked to Bloomberg clearly has a grudge against them.
It almost makes me wonder if Lovett hooked up with a different former employee as well because whoever leaked this information about his partner sounds really jealous of that person.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 3, 2024 2:26 PM |

Lovett has changed so much since breaking off his engagement or maybe it was the pandemic that changed him, I don’t know. But if you’d told me in 2019 that he would have gotten hair plugs, started taking Ozempic despite having no medical or even cosmetic need for it, and shtupping his young employees I absolutely would not have believed it. Maybe he always had this side to him but if so I didn’t see it.
The other Pod guys have always been kind of shallow glib dicks though so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. Company you keep and all that.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 3, 2024 2:44 PM |
R53 please stop with the “mini-primary” nonsense. I don’t care who said it, there is NO SUCH THING IN DNC RULES. Who would be voting in it and how? The only way to replace a candidate who won the actual primary that people already voted in is for that candidate to drop out or become indisposed, release their pledged delegates, and for the delegates to then pledge their votes to someone else. Which is exactly what happened. Anyone could have challenged Kamala if they chose, they just didn’t bother since she locked up the majority of delegate pledges in about 24 hours. Again…neither the pod guys, Tim Miller, Clooney, the Hollywood donors or anyone else who was calling for some nonsensical Bachelor style rose-giving ceremony to some random new ticket gets any credit for that. The DNC organization and the delegates made this work.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 3, 2024 2:57 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 3, 2024 3:44 PM |
R65 they got a big investment from George Soros a couple of years ago so that probably accounts for a big chunk of their operating budget. But it also sounds like they either took some kind of shareholder buyout or gave themselves a hefty bonus as part of that because I don’t know how else Favreau could afford that house. He and his wife do also both have family money but still.

Because guess what, my fellow adults who I assume can handle this:
Straight people have oral sex, anal sex, hand stimulation, and every other possible way people can rub in or on each other to get each other off. So either EVERYTHING is “heterosexual sex” or there is no delineation.

Maybe they opt to do that maybe they do not. The only time I ever even have to think about this is when someone with a very limited concept of sex starts obsessing about what holes some total strangers are sticking it in. Maybe all of them. Maybe none of them. Maybe they’re humping each other’s armpits. I don’t care and neither should you because once again: we are not fucking these people and it’s not our business.

Team PSA..and I have to admit their opening theme music is pretty catchy.

It all depends on the anatomy of your partner.

R84 I don’t see how that addresses my point that almost all “straight” or “gay” sex involves the exact same activities and honestly even the parts that are “different due to anatomy” are not all that different. Tab A is going into Slot B somewhere, it’s pretty simple. Don’t overthink it.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 4, 2024 10:19 AM |
Yes, gay sex and straight sex are the same thing… 😒. If he’s decided he wants to fuck a vagina then he’s no longer gay. He’s bisexual and that’s ok.

R86 well as I painstakingly explained above for the simple folk, we have no idea what he is actually doing in his bedroom. But so what if he is? What do you care?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 4, 2024 1:14 PM |
This article is melodramatic bullshit. They founded a successful entertainment company; they can have as many $10 million houses as they want. Not to mention that $10 million in LA is nothing, and they're trying to help America! I can think of countless heartless execs running failing companies or evangelical Christian prosperity preachers I’d prefer to target.

R87 you’re the one painstakingly going on and on about it. Well, painfully might be a better word to use.

I'm fond of Tommy Vietor... just good guy energy all around!
by Anonymous | reply 90 | August 4, 2024 6:15 PM |
Tommy Vietor is an antisemite.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | August 4, 2024 6:49 PM |
Tommy Vietor looks like a calcium-deficient douche bag.
I could never understand why the other two thought he was so attractive…until I saw photos of them.

Something about Lovett that is so off putting. Does he still wear his tutu when he’s on his Lovett or Leave It podcast?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 4, 2024 7:50 PM |
R93 not lately. That phase ended a couple of years ago.
Lovett may also identify as nonbinary eventually, I think.
Can you imagine the levels of mental illness involved for these completely average men and women to seriously consider themselves "non-binary"!?
They might just as well identify as "space alien"! It is ALL so utterly ridiculous!
Lovett dating his employee who is 15+ years younger than him — what a hot mess.
I don't see anything wrong with this.

R98 grow up — sexuality is a spectrum, so is gender. Mental health specialists know this and have said it for decades. Deal with it
by Anonymous | reply 100 | August 5, 2024 2:02 PM |
R97 it really feels like he got caught and had to say “we’re dating” for HR purposes as opposed to just banging an employee
He had a different boyfriend up until a few months ago

Their union staged a walkout today. Surely that will have some effect…the VP candidate is likely to be picked by tomorrow, they need to be able to put a show out soon.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | August 6, 2024 12:09 AM |
Maybe if they were nicer to President Biden, he’d throw them a solid to walk with them…
by Anonymous | reply 103 | August 6, 2024 1:57 AM |
Lovett's other boyfriend, the one he was with until a few months ago (not Ronan Farrow), was hot.
What's the real story here?
by Anonymous | reply 104 | August 6, 2024 2:00 AM |
R104 I don’t know but I’m pretty sure he’s the one who broke it off because Lovett had a little angry outburst about it on one of his shows and then started acting like the relationship never happened
by Anonymous | reply 105 | August 6, 2024 2:10 AM |
Go dilate r100!
by Anonymous | reply 106 | August 6, 2024 2:16 AM |
Also, not long after they broke up, Lovett had this comedian Zach who came on his show and joked about how they were hooking up. Except it clearly wasn’t really a joke. They were very blatantly flirty. So I’m still like…when did Lovett have time to start dating this employee? He has really been getting around
by Anonymous | reply 107 | August 6, 2024 2:17 AM |
I’ve figured it out.
This employee has been in love with Lovett for the last couple of years. Ronan figured it out, so did Lovett’s last boyfriend. He begged out of the situation saying hey there’s nothing going on. Maybe.
But. They sensed the vibes. And now he’s with the employee so they weren’t wrong.

Listening to their pod-
They compare everyone to Obama.
Remember Obama was a movement. Movements don’t translate to legislation unless you have the right people to negotiate.
Those people for Obama was Joe Biden & Nancy Pelosi.

Hilarious!
No, gender is not "a spectrum" in any way, and "mental health specialists" know nothing of the kind! Only internet gender wackjobs push this gibberish!
by Anonymous | reply 112 | August 10, 2024 4:02 PM |
R111 because their association with Obama (even though it was pretty minimal) is the only reason they are relevant.
The most annoying verbal tic they have is talking about how “we” won this or that campaign. They were speechwriters, they didn’t win anything! He did! But they think they made Obama, instead of the other way around, so that’s how they see it.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | August 11, 2024 3:28 PM |
