I wonder if they included the numerous closeted celebrities in Hollywood.
Nearly 1 in 5 LGBTQ Adults have never come out, survey finds.

I've never come out as non binary, I just let people think I'm a gay man who loves female pop icons and mascara.

It'd be even higher if you asked how many had never come out to work colleagues or extended family, etc.

I think work colleagues and extended family are on a need-to-know basis R2. Even immediate family can be unsupportive, but let's start there first.

Why I never!

20% Good grief!

Coming out isn't a 1 time thing. There's friends, immediate family, extended family, close co-workers, the entire office, different job co-workers, etc.
Seems like a flawed study from people who don't understand the gay community or experience at all.

Do they get Uber eats all the time???? Imagine never seeing the sunlight ….

^ R6, according to the study these are people who've never come out to ANYONE not people who are out to some people but not others
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 1, 2024 4:17 PM |
It’s not flawed if they define “not coming out” as never telling anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 1, 2024 4:17 PM |
How very very dare you!

It'd be more interesting if they started where these people live or their background. I suspect you'll start to see patterns there.

That's just astonishing, if true. How sad for them that they have no one they trust enough to share such a vital part of themselves. Their lives must be brutal.

This part of the article really stood out to me: "That rate is higher for bisexual adults, with 23% reporting that they aren’t out to anyone, compared to 5% of gay and lesbian adults."

Religion.

They won’t come out as non-binary.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 1, 2024 4:32 PM |
Fuck that noise, I couldnt deal with not being out. I started telling friends at 18, family a year or two later, I cant be fucked hiding it and havent for decades.
I'm with R13. Living like that must be horrendous, like living under the Taliban

Sounds right to me. I know a number of celebrities have come out as bisexual, but in the reality-based world, most of the people who identify as such are nearly always head cases. The "bisexual" married-to-a-woman dudes are gay and in denial, which I can comprehend only because *I* initially came out as bi, for all of a month.

It’s all about trannies. No one cares about us fags anymore except Matt Damon.

R19, not true. Which is why many gay and bi people are still closeted
