Really. Could there be a better person than Pete to be VP? Or President for that matter. The man is brilliant. He is Presidential. But - - - he is gay. It is shameful that people can't get past this and put the best person, male or female, into office. I believe his time will come. I hope sooner rather than later, but the man and the people will rise to this. I'm for Kamala, but I know Pete is, and will be, even better.
Pete
by Anonymous | reply 153 | August 3, 2024 9:07 PM |
Yes, the better person is someone who will appeal to swing state voters/old white men. I can't get past that he took 6 months leave in the middle of Covid. The "best person" would not do that.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 31, 2024 11:24 PM |
I honestly believe that he's gay matters only the context that he's inexperienced. He is 42. He has tons of time to build a track record. He is not presidential, he's just a formidable talker.
And yes, at present, there's about four other people who are better as VP. Three of them govern states and have electoral and governing track records.
Sorry, Pete's problem isn't that he's gay. Your problem seems to be though.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 31, 2024 11:34 PM |
There is a better person: anyone who could sweep the votes that Pete wouldn't get because he's gay.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 31, 2024 11:37 PM |
Pete is only 42. He would still be relatively young as a president even if he had to wait 8 years for a post-Harris term.
Rather than wishful thinking which could wind up alienating too many people to get Harris elected, it may be better that Pete gets a higher profile cabinet spot. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and is a Rhode Scholar.
He's been in the military. I wonder whether Secretary of Defense is a possibility. The current one is a retired 4 star general, so he may not be "qualified" in the eyes of seasoned military officers.
Secretary of State?
Treasury is out. I'd prefer Yellen or someone as qualified.
Is there another higher profile one that fits the bill toward becoming a viable presidential candidate in eight years?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 31, 2024 11:39 PM |
R3. Well since the thread is titled “Pete,” you’re the idiot for clicking on it. I’m sure there’s a Real Wives thread that would be more your speed.

OP, the Pete troll, is a good example of someone paying for additional accounts.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 31, 2024 11:43 PM |
Is he really qualified for anything? He majored in history and literature at Harvard.
Then he seems to have jumped around doing various types of work: he did consulting at McKinsey for a few years, then he was in the military, then he worked on some campaigns for other people, then he became Mayor, then he ran for President.
What marketable skills does he have?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 31, 2024 11:57 PM |
He should and will be president. But for now, alas, we must cater to the whims of these ancient generations with their old homophobic AIDS joke prejudices.

R19, she was never my queen, you dickstruck dildo, her DL diehards remind me of you: rabid, irrational and starstruck beyond reason. But even I have to acknowledge she had been in a West Wing office and married to the President of the United States for eight years, and according to the great Wikipedia "In 1997 and 1999, Clinton played a leading role in promoting the creation of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act.": So, yeah, I would argue she had a little something under her belt. I'd certainly stack that up against four years as Airplane Secretary and a stint as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, yeah. I also give her credit for standing for election and letting the voters decide, which is more than your unicorn has done at the federal level.
Any other questions, dear?

Nice, R77! I personally prefer more youth on the ticket, since Kamala even getting chosen was an indictment on the Democrat's aging problem.
Baby Boomers and Gen Xers are and feel very involved in the Democratic process and have been for the last 30 years. The younger generations don't feel that. They aren't involved or heard and they feel smacked down and alienated by the elders who discredit all of their concerns. And so I think this is a tremendous chance to ameliorate some of that, to extend an olive branch out to some of our most alienated voters.

Who started the Women's Rights Movement? Right again, it was the (horrrible!) Boomers.
Who started the Gay Liberation Movement? I know, you guessed it this time: it was the (now-decrepit!) Boomers.
And who fought and championed the right to medications against AIDS, and faced the stigma of the "gay cancer"? Yes, gay Boomers. Speaking of people who sacrificed their lives for you...
If you were ever taught history, or actually learned anything anyone older than you was [italic]trying[/italic] to teach you, you'd already know these things.
Instead, you disparage us, your gay forefathers/mothers any chance you get -- on a gay website, no less!! You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Who started the Women's Rights Movement? Right again, it was the (horrrible!) Boomers.
Women's right to vote was granted in 1920 after 100 years of protest. Boomers never got an Equal Rights Amendment fully passed in congress even as of today.
And who fought and championed the right to medications against AIDS, and faced the stigma of the "gay cancer"? Yes, gay Boomers. Speaking of people who sacrificed their lives for you...
No Dear, people did not sacrifice their lives, they died because they had no other choice. They fought for medications to save their own lives. They were also the generation that help spread AIDS like wild fire.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | August 1, 2024 6:59 AM |
R95, I don't think they changed, they were always greedy fucks. That's why they were called the "ME" generation. It's just that when they were young they wanted different things like experimenting with copious amounts of drugs, unlimited sexual promiscuity, avoiding the draft, not wanting to work in "square" jobs.
Then when they got older, "greed Is good" became their thing with a focus on how much money they could make for themselves at the cost of everyone and rest of society. They celebrated being called YUPPIES (young upwardly mobile professionals) obsessed with material objects and financial success.
Now that they are all in retirement, or should be, they still wont let go of power many working into their 70's and 80s. You know, to "keep busy".
No one cares about South Bend [R110]. Give it up already.
neither did Mayor Pete which was the problem
by Anonymous | reply 114 | August 3, 2024 1:17 AM |
Again, the point is no one cares what South Bend thinks, the rest of the country is entitled to their own views which do not have to be filtered through some tiny little town.

Donald Trump, George W. Bush, George HW Bush, Andrew Jackson, and even Abraham Lincoln all became President without winning their home state.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | August 3, 2024 1:23 AM |
R116 what do you mean by home state? Trump was never the Governor of any state. Just to let you know

Kamala met with Pete today for about 90 minutes as part of the vetting process. She will be meeting with the others over the weekend.

R117, home state means home state.

The first five minutes was her trying to find a gentle way to tell him he’s not the pick. The rest of the time was her trying to get him to stop crying.

First in, first out.

So, what's the point R119? NY was Hillary's home state as well. There were a number of states Trump didn't win as well.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | August 3, 2024 1:37 AM |
R121, I thought everyone was saying Pete is a long shot? An outsider? Now she's vetting him? Seems to me he's not so long of a shot if she's taking time to do that.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | August 3, 2024 1:44 AM |
You are missing the point R122, Pete haters keep trying to say he's undetectable because he's unpopular in South Bend. But as posted above, many Presidents were just as unpopular in their own states and still won the election.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | August 3, 2024 1:46 AM |
You see what you want to see, R123. You'll still be pushing him long after she's moved on with a winner.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | August 3, 2024 1:50 AM |
Perhaps r125, but you also seem to have a blind spot.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | August 3, 2024 2:01 AM |
Better a blind spot than a brain death, saddo.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | August 3, 2024 2:13 AM |
R124 You're missing the point. Pete made a point of his hometown experience when he ran in 2020.He relied on his record as Mayor. Trump never referenced NY.

He arrived with a plate of cookies that Chasten had baked the night before. She told him that she had never seen chocolate chip cookies with sprinkles before.

He was like: Do you not like sprinkles? Because I'm happy to talk you through how I'll get rid of the guy who made them.

R115 South Bend has a population of 100 thousand. By no definition is that 'some tiny little town'
by Anonymous | reply 131 | August 3, 2024 3:30 AM |
Good point. Those suggestion he get defense or state if he's not the veep are starting to make a lot more sense now.

Biden said Pete reminds him of his son Beau.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | August 3, 2024 3:48 AM |

When I watch clips of Pete tearing it up on Fox News the comments are all "I love this guy, I'd be proud to call Pete my president" and "Pete for VP please, Kamala!" and "I hope to live to see Pete Buttiegieg as President of the United States of America one day" and "I cannot get enough of Mayor Pete clips!" and "What a brilliant man" and on and on and on. I understand there can be a bit of an echo chamber situation when the clips are MSNBC but it's also Fox and it's HUNDREDS of positive comments and hundreds of thousands if not millions of views per clip. The guy is achieving "household name" status and he's become very beloved by many, many many, people. It is what it is. Don't shoot the messenger. He has a wholesomeness about him that people find comfort in. He is articulate and he can give voice to the bullshit we all detect, and he validates our observations which reduces the burden of gaslighting we all labor under every day due to Donnie Diapers. He's a hit.

Even if Pete doesn't get the nod, I bet she wants him to stay with her. IMO, putting him right in the White House would be a real smart move. Chief of staff. He'd be perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | August 3, 2024 4:07 AM |
People can still be homophobes and like Pete. How many times have you seen racists talk about how much they like Denzel...or remember O.J.? Same thinking applies.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 3, 2024 4:24 AM |
House boy for the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 3, 2024 4:26 AM |
You're totally full of shit R137 - even for you.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | August 3, 2024 4:33 AM |
And people can be racists but that is no EXCUSE to say oh, we cant try that now, too much is at stake. Lets just nominate another old white man instead of Kamala. Because people are still racist, especially swing voters. See how that works?
by Anonymous | reply 140 | August 3, 2024 4:33 AM |
R135 is correct, I have seen that too. There is a lot of enthusiasm behind Pete outside the DL bubble. Mostly from straight people. Don't listen to the cranky old queens with self loathing issues on this site as an indicator of how the rest of the country thinks. Their hyperbolic hand wringing about making him VP "at your own peril" is so over the top, it almost sounds like a threat from Russia. Something Tucker would say about Democrats.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | August 3, 2024 4:39 AM |
And Pete would bring more excitement to the ticket than any other candidate other than Andy Beshear. And that's what the campaign is all about right now, keeping the excitement alive until election day. Moving forward, not backward.

Most of that population is Notre Dame students.
Pete is more popular with Americans than Nancy Pelosi or that old crow Madeleine Albright:
If Pete held elected office, his popularity would plummet. We see how he was viewed in South Bend, the only place he has ever won an election.

South bend was a blacks hate new white guy in office thing. Lets be honest.

R143 South Bend is a city with a population of 103 thousand. Notre Dame is a mid-size institution with an enrollment of 8,953 undergraduate students. Notre Dame University is located in Portage Township, Indiana. Only 21% of students live off campus.

He had better hope for a Cabinet position, because Ms. Chasten is never going back to Michigan.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | August 3, 2024 7:05 PM |
if he's not Kamala's VP pick, I assume Pete will continue in his current cabinet position R147 if she wins.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | August 3, 2024 7:28 PM |
If I were Pete I would want something more substantial. I mean he gave the Transportation Department stature and relevance thank goodness. But I would love to see him deal with the Environment or Energy policy too. IMO if he stays on, He ought to be her Chief of Staff. He would be perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | August 3, 2024 7:31 PM |
I dont know, if she wins, she's tetchily a brand new President who is to bring in her own entire staff. She could offer him the same job, but does not have to.
