Democrats had to contend with this questioning from the mainstream press on a daily basis after the presidential debate. Trump certainly came off just as poorly today in his aborted NABJ appearance. So ....
When will Republicans push Trump out of the race and who will the replacement candidate be?

DISCLAIMER!!!
There's a "theory" out there that once Thiel and Co. got their boy as Veep, they planned him to replace Trump as nominee later. Kinda sucks for the (hoodwinked) Trump sons, but it's one of those rumors I've heard.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 31, 2024 11:14 PM |
NEVER.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 31, 2024 11:14 PM |
Not gonna happen, OP. Trump is their ONLY (dwindling) chance to win.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 31, 2024 11:19 PM |
I was just thinking about this this afternoon. I wonder if he did something egregious enough would the RNC find a way to replace him. Unlike with the Democrats, the Republicans would not cornered into promoting Vance though. I wonder who the backup candidate would be. I suppose DeSantis. Haley would cause civil war in the party.

The cult (which is the GOP's core these days) will never accept a replacement.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 31, 2024 11:50 PM |
No, they've already decided they're just going to steal the election no matter what.

[quote]The cult (which is the GOP's core these days) will never accept a replacement.
I think a lot of Republicans would be like a lot of Democrats were, and want to win at all costs with whoever makes that happen. IF Trump became extremely wounded (figuratively).
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 31, 2024 11:53 PM |
I think it would have to be Vance since they've had their convention. Part of me thought the fake assassination attempt was a message from tptb that the orange turd had better pick who they wanted as VP
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2024 11:54 PM |
You might be onto something, R8. Billionaires don't want him, they'd prefer someone like Vance who has no convictions whatsoever and will do whatever he's asked to do and who can be easily pulled away from MAGA since they were never fully in to start with. But they know there's no way the cult will vote for anyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 1, 2024 12:00 AM |
Vance has zero charisma, and charisma is highly important in politics. If he won a presidential election, that would be a clear indication of interference and tampering.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 1, 2024 12:07 AM |
if Trump is jettisoned and he's goes scorched earth, he could convince some Republican voters not to vote.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 1, 2024 12:09 AM |
Dump will be the candidate. He won’t step down. He’s the useful idiot that TPTB want. They’ll just try to figure out a way to manage him better. Like better medication. Or more of it. And keeping him from speaking engagements. And doubling down on their racist, misogynistic rhetoric against Kamala. It’s kind of funny that “Sleepy Joe” dropping out threw Dump so far off balance.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 1, 2024 12:13 AM |
R11: My wildest dream has been for him to tell his dead-ender MAGAs when he loses that it's useless ever voting, both parties are shit.

Shares in a blind trust. Free bit coin. They'll just buy him. That's all he wants anyway.

You’re forgetting his daughter in law is chair of the RNC. He’s made it nearly impossible for the party to force him out.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 1, 2024 12:16 AM |
[quote] I think it would have to be Vance since they've had their convention.
I'm pretty sure R8 has it right. Plus, very soon we're going to be hitting deadlines so that ballot printing can begin. It takes a while to print tens of millions of ballots, plus get them shipped and mailed where they need to be in time for states that allow early + absentee voting.
If there were to be a nominee change -- Trump "backs out" due to "health reasons" or, Judge Merchan actually sentences him in September to PRISON -- I think the only practical option for the GOP would be Vance since he's already nominated as part of the Trump ticket. Ballots printed with Trump's name and votes cast for him (I believe) would be counted for Vance.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 1, 2024 12:19 AM |
What if he actually gets a short jail sentence in September? Because that’s actually possible. I doubt his interview with his parole officer went swimmingly.

I think they’ve got their operatives installed in positions in the red states where they can say no, we won’t certify the election results (if Harris wins) due to some made up reasons. It will be tossed up the the US Supremes and they’ll give the country over to Trump and the Heritage Foundation and there will be nothing we can do about it. They need Trump in place to let that happen.

If Harris wins the Electoral College, it doesn't matter what the red states do, so that's of no concern.

Unlikely. First, he probably won't be alive. Second, when he loses for the second time, third if we want to include the '22 midterms that were supposed to be a red wave but were not because Trump has turned so many people off, he will fall out of favor with the people who actually run the GOP (the Kochs, the Mercers, Peter Thiel, Leonard Leo et. al.). Third, they have their nominee for 2028: JD Vance.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 1, 2024 4:01 PM |

Because (presuming he’s still alive) he won’t get any younger, smarter or healthier in the next four years. His legal problems won’t just disappear. Whatever sort of dementia he’s got will only get worse, and at a faster pace. Add in that two time loser stigma and he’s doomed. It’s now or never.

The only Americans rump is connecting to is he’s base. So, the base is 35%. Nobody else likes this asshole. Nobody.
As far as 2028, it’s a long way off and a million things can happen. Rump looks very unhealthy and is pushing 80 years old. I dunno, I don’t think he’ll run again in 2028. He’ll huff and puff and try to stir up another January 6, but don’t think it will work this time. Main reason, he won’t be president and President Harris (hopefully) will shut that shit down so fast.
Also, If Ivanka was sexually abused by rump, it would be healthy for her to get that off her chest. I feel like his action against Ivanka are a ticking time-bomb. Somebody in that family will talk eventually .
She’s probably so frightened of him, she’s paralyzed. Plus that horrible pic of her sitting on his lap and he has lascivious smile on his face, she probably thinks people would blame her. Ugh. I feel bad for her in a way.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 1, 2024 4:25 PM |
I think you're going to have to be a very impressive 80 year old to seek the presidency after what Biden has done. It's a precedent that has opened up the age question permanently. Genie's not going back in the bottle.
The question is, if he loses again (and it's likely) will there at least be a decisive internal civil war within the Republican party and what will the outcome of it be? If we're lucky, the party splinters.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 1, 2024 4:29 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 1, 2024 5:26 PM |
They do and they don't. The thing is about all dictatorships, regimes, however you define your corrupt organization based on control and coercion... there's always a point it topples under its own weight. Trump's grip will collapse too, at some point. It may be he loses control of the Republicans, or it may be the moderate wing walks and starts their own party, leaving them to drive the Republican party into the ground. At some point, a critical mass will say enough is enough and it will be just large enough to bring him down. Think about it, if he loses the biggest prize in November, how many losses is that for the whole party over the past five years? Enough to make people think twice. Yes, the stupid dirt will always be with Trump, but how much worse can breaking with him be than sticking with him? That's the question that eventually will be answered by: break with him.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 1, 2024 5:28 PM |
Would the Republicans have a better chance with or without Trump?
I'm torn. He's an albatross around their necks, but they also have no charismatic replacements waiting in the wings. I can't believe he polls so high, and it makes me ashamed of America
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 1, 2024 8:06 PM |
Too late. They already had their convention. Now...if their nominee were to suffer some debilitating medical event, or even die, then he can be replaced. The other thing to be mindful of is that the GOP intends to block certification of the votes in every single state they can. So they have a plan B if things go south. We have to be vigilant and make sure that certification process...at the local level works the way it's supposed to. Especially in the swing states. We may not be able to save them all but we need 270 electoral votes so we have to get the actual votes certified.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 1, 2024 8:08 PM |

Who will be left once Trump passes away? Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Rick Scott, Little Marco, Moses Mike Johnson, Rapey Matt Gaetz? r72, The power structure hates him and they don't want to lose.
We often overlook his number one priority, the entire purpose of his candidacy is to stay out of jail. Last night, Scaramucci said he's looking to cut a deal to get out.
Mooch said TSF knows he lost the popular vote 2x. If he could cut a deal to stay out of prison in NY/GA, he could step down for health reasons and the ticket could be replaced with Rhonda/Nimrata or others.

I think the next high profile political leader for the Neo Fascist Republican Party will come from the world of celebrity,...like Sean Hannity. But younger. I agree with the poster above about the faked assassination attempt, sublimely pulled off by the Bilderberg folks. However, people are saying that Mossad is having trouble with their intercontinental hologram laser technology and the Fake Melania hologram is too glitchy to be used now, and the real Melania sleeper cell may have been awakened by the Lizard Race Gotha of Europe, controlled by the Rothschilds. Meanwhile, remember that Jared DID broker the sale by the Vatican/Pope of the Ark of the Covenant to the House of Said, so all hell will break out if there are any Western Christian hegemonic power moves by NATO.

I suspect the most of the GOP in leadership hates his fucking guts. But only Cheney, Christie and a handful of others have made their voices heard and put this country before their ambitions. I can almost forgive his MAGA cult followers because they're so stupid. But I'll never forgive people like Vance, McConnell, Haley, Barr, Graham, McCarthy, Sununu, etc., etc., who know goddamned well what a monster and psychopath he is --- and have said so publicly!--only to endorse him and give some level of legitimacy to his madness.
I can't wait until we put a stake in his heart (will be very hard to find but we'll locate some dark corner of life-force to spear) and these traitors careers will lie in ruins. They will forever be branded as racists, misogynists and traitors....and, of course, cowards. And for what? Because the Democrats want to raise taxes on the rich. That's what this is all about.
They won't get rid of Trump. They know he won't win now and we'll see them keeping schtum, hoping that if they recede into the background no one will remember how they propped up this psycho. Well, we will never forget.
I used to not care if Trump went to prison or not. I just wanted him to disappear. Now I want everything bad the world has to offer to him. I'm glad he survived the assassination attempt so that he can experience the humiliation of losing to a Black woman and the fallout post-election.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 4, 2024 11:57 AM |
His handlers have done a decent job up to a couple weeks ago in keeping a lid on his crazy pot. But as soon as Kamala entered, the psycho came roaring back and no one can stop him. He's doing our work for us, god bless him. We just need to keep making fun of him. He hates not being taken seriously. We were getting no where with "red alert! red alert!he's a threat to the entire world!" His idiots just thinks that means this is an opportunity for them to rule the entire world.
Much, much better to laugh at them and point out their creepiness and not take them seriously at all. It's gaining traction. But, time to pivot away from the word "weird." It's getting overplayed. Let's move into other fun insults.

R’s would have totally cruised into the White House next year if they’d nominated anyone but Trump. Now they’re in a toss-up with their nominee in steep mental decline and picking fights with every Tyrone, Devonte, and Hakeem. And to top it off, his team let him choose America’s Least Likable to be his running mate. They are now in an uphill battle for what should have been a complete cakewalk.

Of course, attending MAGATs cheered for Mr. Putin at Orange Jesus' urging. Like the lobotomized sheep they are.

[quote]"Trump congratulates Putin for the prisoner exchange"
It's so obviously a shit-for-brains thing to say, equally it's desperately hungry for another 'controversial headline' to make sane patriots splutter.
As is being generally noted, the best thing now to do is at best totally ignore, or if really necessary, respond in tones of, "Poor old Grandpa, there he goes again!" With a pitying chuckle.
The Felon will just need desperately to up his adolescent rhetoric yet more ("Look at Me!"), and might yet say something irrecoverably bad. Even by his non-standards.

Just a string of disconnected generalities whose cumulative message ("me and Putin good, Democrats bad") we've heard a hundred times before. The Republicans have nothing compelling anymore.

To answer a question asked earlier, Yes, the Democrats nominated Adlai Stevenson twice...and he lost twice to Eisenhower. In 1952 and again in 1956. In 1960 Stevenson briefly tried to challenge JFK at the convention but it fizzled like a wet turd. Adlai was the former governor of Illinois, and a protege of Eleanor Roosevelt's. He was later appointed JFK's Ambassador to the United Nations, back when people hoped the United Nations would actually do something to insure world peace.
Adlai, who was very mild mannered, intellectual, and professorial, and a favorite of Jackie's, famously stood toe to toe with the Russians during the Cuban Missile Crisis, presenting blown up photos taken by our spy planes to show them the missile silos in Cuba. It was quite a dramatic moment covered on live TV. As the Soviets hemmed and hawed over their answers as a prosecutorial Adlai peppered them with demands, he said, "I will wait until hell freezes over." And there was literally a collective gasp. Yes, those were the days.

That rally Friday night in Georgia was a complete disaster.. Definitely not a winning campaign. If he keeps this up, he has absolutely zero chance.

Atlanta rally.
[quote]Trump opened up his appearance in Atlanta lying about the Harris event in the same place, falsely claiming that people left the event early and that there were empty seats. Both events packed the room. Notably, the upper stands began to empty out about an hour into Trump’s comments.
[quote]The refrain, repeated by speaker after speaker at the rally, was that Trump took a bullet for Republican voters, and they should return the favor with powerful turnout in Georgia. “He took a bullet for you, and in that moment, we found out who Donald Trump is,” said Marjorie Taylor Greene, a representative, in a speech before 10,000 Trump supporters at the Georgia State Convocation Center. “He stood up, put his fist in the air and said ‘Fight! Fight! Fight!’ And that’s what we will do.”

All the GQP has to look forward to when Trump loses in November and they push him out of the party is further splintering between all the freaks that huddle under their umbrella. And the Never Trumpers will try to revive the traditional brand, smelling blood in the water with a black Asian woman in the WH, while Trump goes on trial for years and circles the drain like Rudy Guiliani.
And what will be the hardest thing for them to overcome? The generational shift in American politics that is happening right now. Their base is hillbilly boomers. How will they ever appeal to young voters, especially when post-Trump all they’re going to offer are poor imitations, hateful, psychotic Trump mini-mes. There will be so many factions fighting for control of the party it won’t even exist.

.The issues Republicans care about crime, immigration, guns, inflation, taxes have support with or without Trump. People get more conservative as they age. So new right wingers are created every year!

Irrespective of how the electoral college shakes out, ~48% of the country is going to vote for Trump. That isn’t just a bunch of hillbilly boomers. If he loses, it will be a rebuke to MAGA, but not enough to make that half of the country be normal again. Maybe the moderates will hold relatively more sway in the 2026 midterms, but even if Trump died tomorrow, or on January 7, 2025, the genie is out of the bottle. Demographics may be shifting, but as non-whites become a larger proportion of the country, more and more of them will start variegating politically and the two party system will persist.

^^^FYI Trump has NEVER gotten 47% of the vote. EVER

Trump isn’t the candidate. Dark MAGA has the real candidate waiting in the wings. He’s being replaced once he gets abducted by aliens.

There are people who are racists who will vote for him. There are people who are fools who will vote for him, and then there are people who like "no taxes on the rich, and let's deregulate everything"

I have a cousin who raised her kids in pubic housing, and was on welfare, and she . Loves him. I guess she'd fall into the "fools" category because ...she has "Black friends."

There is no more GOP. It's now the GQP. Dump has "retruthed" and couple thousand Qanon memes. Once he loses this time, it's dunzo. I don't know how the Repukes move on from here. He has destroyed so many lives, marriages, relationships.....holy shit, the GQP seem to get off on sadomasochism.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | August 4, 2024 11:53 PM |
Yes. The MAGA movement has destroyed marriages, relationships, and friendships. I've never seen anything like it. It's horrible.

They can't push him out, the base isn't Republican, they are MAGA, Trump thru and thru. They will not vote for an alternative.

When Biden dropped out of the race, a friend texted me saying he was excited that now they can get someone who can beat Trump. After several messages of his invectives against the orange menace, I texted him back: "Remember when Republicans were merely icky people, not pure evil?"
There's no going back to that old guard, country club Republican set. Now, it's either MAGAloons or Libertarian/fascist broligarchs and disgruntled crypto-loving incels. Everybody else is trying to pander to one of those groups.

Trump mobilized the "paranoid style in American politics" so that it squeezed out any other voices in the Republican party. This started a long time before, but now Republican = MAGA = paranoid style.
