If Kamala wins, what with the First Gentleman do?
So as we all know, the spouse usually does all the stereotypical "lady" things. But Kamala's husband is a straight male lawyer by trade. What will he do with that little bit of power? Doesn't the first spouse get a small budget to set up a small office? Not to pay herself but to pay all the staffers?
A typical First Lady’s staff consists of around 15 people, including press and social secretaries, speechwriters and project directors all paid for by US Tax payers.

Maybe he could be like the Bro Gentleman, hosting fund raisers, cocktail parties at private men's clubs, golf events, sports events etc.
I will be PISSED! If the media still expects Kamala to decorate the White House for Christmas. Would they ask that of Obama? Let the media mahogany roll. Watch it will happen. Probably starting with Fox.

Hire a fabulous gay secretary to do all the social planning, so he need not be bothered with that sort of thing!

There's nothing to say that the First Lady has to be the wife of the President. At the tail end of her father's term in office, Chelsea Clinton served as First Lady because her mom was busy in the Senate. It's not outside the realm of possibility that Kamala's sister or niece could serve in the same way.

R8, Hillary may have been busy running for the Senate in ‘99 & ‘00, but she didn’t become a Senator until 2001, just weeks before leaving the White House.

Lifelong bachelor, "Miss Nancy," had his niece, Harriett Lane, serve as First Lady.
"Aunt Fancy" could easily have performed that function, since Ol' Rufus was quite the fashion plate and known for his flawless appearance!
But he died before Buchanan became president.

VOTN is correct about Chelsea Clinton. Per Wikipedia:
[quote]During the last year of her father's presidency, Chelsea assumed some White House hostess responsibilities when her mother was campaigning for the U.S. Senate, traveling with her father on several overseas trips and attending state dinners with him.

I think he'll keep doing basically what he's been doing as the Second Gentleman. He's been very much in evidence the whole time, supporting initiatives, giving talks, making appearances on her behalf. It used to bother me because "Second Gentleman" is even less of a thing than "First Lady" in terms of official role, and I felt like he was bordering on inserting himself into an administration he wasn't elected to. But all in all, he's done a good job supporting the Biden-Harris administration without overstepping that line. He really is a gem. As First Gentleman, he'd have to be even more circumspect about that, though.

He will have to find a 'cause' to support which he feels passionate about.
Lady Bird Johnson cleaned up the highways and the byways, Jackie Kennedy cleaned up and updated the White House, Nancy Reagan had her (failed) 'Just Say No' campaign, Barb Bush was the voice of 'Foster Grandparents' (I think it was somewhat successful), Laura Bush sponsored 'Adult Literacy' , etc.
Of course, Melania pushed 'Be Best' which, to this day, she doesn't even know what that was about.

Many American Jewish homes put up Christmas trees. The L.A. Times reported the figure to be 33% ten years ago. (In the UK, it's been reported to be as high as 58%.)
And there's nothing wrong with having Chinese food on Christmas Day.

All those Jews among the first and second families if Harris wins. I’m reminded of an ‘80s local station whose tagline was “Detroit, here’s your news.” When the station started fielding an all-Jewish weekend team of anchors, sportscaster & weather person, I was told that the inside joke was, “Detroit, here’s your Jews.”

Agree with r46. Nothing will be expected of him. Everyone will just feel sorry for him that he has to suffer in his wife's shadow. So everything he does will be lauded by the press. Melanoma has already destroyed the tradition of what a First Lady is supposed to be. This will be another nail in the coffin.
