How long will the STANDING OVATION last?

forgot to add, I think that's smart scheduling.
We all want to express our love and thanks to Uncle Joe, and to experience that cathartic effect the first night so we can move on to Kamala's accepting the nomination is good.

I agree, he's a kind man if anything else
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 31, 2024 1:14 AM |
He’s been a great, effective Senator, VP and President.
Let him have his moment.
Then let’s fucking move on and win this shit!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 31, 2024 1:19 AM |
I'm afraid Joe only has 2 weeks to live...

R2,” if nothing else,” dear.
I agree that opening the convention with him is not only a political win, but a rhetorical one. Politics is, since the Greeks, as much theater as substance and this “coronation”is made for the modern age.
I’ll stress again that campaigning is theater. The majority of the American public respond to theater, showmanship. That’s why the ultimate showman, Trump, was successful.
The thing I see and feel from the nascent Harris campaign is the same thing I felt for the Obama 2008 campaign. I was a Hillary supporter, but once I saw how he and the idea of him energized the crowd, I knew it wa over for Hillary. I begrudgingly switched and am mostly glad I did.
Regardless, if you remember 200& and the energy, you cannot deny it feels similar. Maybe even greater, because we know the other option might be authoritarianism.

Please tell me OP is satire. It’s politics, not your favorite niece getting married.

This is the most important election of our lives, R7. They all tend to be these days, but that doesn't mean it's not the truth. We're looking at democracy v. theocratic fascism; a future for us all, or a future only for billionaires.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2024 5:11 AM |
Thank you r8. You've expressed how I see things, too.
No, r7, I'm not good at conveying satire. I do enjoy it when a talented DLer presents it, though.
I'm not a cynic, I'm a realist. I know hard truth.
I still, however, retain some idealistic embers in my sentimental heart. To see old Joe take a final bow, after everything he's done, will break it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 31, 2024 10:41 AM |
And what r5 said.

I'm waiting for the announcement as to when Beyonce and T Swift will appear at the convention.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 31, 2024 12:22 PM |
I agree with r7, these are not emperors and kings handing off power to the new queen. This is a political party showing continuity by putting party and country above personality and politics. Let's not worship them like the weird ones do
We should thank them for a job well done and keep moving forward
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 31, 2024 12:34 PM |
OP, seek help.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 31, 2024 12:50 PM |
I feel kind of moved by it too. It is historic, for an incumbent president to suddenly withdraw from being the nominee, and for that candidate's weakness to be so totally erased by the person who replaces him.
Biden has been a good President -- and -- he fucked up royally in deciding to run again. It will be good for the Democrats to have that moment to honor him and stand up and cheer for the virtues in him and for what he ultimately did right.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 31, 2024 1:00 PM |
Agree, OP. I already know Gentlemen Joe's speech endorsing VP Harris for president will be heartfelt and energizing.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 31, 2024 1:26 PM |
Things might have worked out better that he dropped out so close to the election, since MAGA had to scrap their entire campaign strategy and flounder at the most critical moment, since they have no message and were depending on using Joe's cognitive abilities as their entire strategy. Now, just at the right time, there is dynamic energy, as opposed to the same old shit that the hatemongers have been foisting since 2016.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 31, 2024 1:34 PM |
I’m amazed me that the Trump Team, way before Biden bowed out, somehow didn’t take it into account that the 80 years old guy may die even before the campaign were engaged.
That they didn’t have their attacks ready yo ho shows how the “stable genius” ain’t one.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 31, 2024 1:52 PM |
Sorry bout the typos and poor grammar.
That they didn’t have their sexist and racist attacks ready to go against Harris…
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 31, 2024 1:53 PM |
Kudos to you, OP. You've got to own it to sell it.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 31, 2024 1:55 PM |
I think this historic change in nominees is serving Kamala Harris far better than a traditional primary would have if Biden had decided not to run last year and stepped aside for a wide open primary. Even if Harris had prevailed in a traditional multi-candidate primary she's be bruised at this point and the brain-dead media would have had a full year for their both sides-horse race nonsense which only normalizes and elevates their boy Trump.
This stealth attack has everything going for it.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 31, 2024 2:24 PM |
Word for word what you said, R21. It happened the way it happened largely out of Harris' control, but master tacticians for Harris 2024 couldn't have played it better.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 31, 2024 3:12 PM |
The more I've thought about it, and now watching it happen, I'm beginning to feel that there was some planning on the Democratic side for Joe to drop out and endorse Kamala at the last minute. The fact that the MAGAts spent two years (with the bountiful assistance of [italic]The New York Times[/italic] ) setting Joe up as "old" is just icing on the cake. Their entire electoral strategy was not just summarily dismissed, it set the Democrats up to use the "he's old" meme against DonOld Trump, and I can't wait for those ads to roll out, and especially the speeches at the convention. I hope Joe gets a few "old" digs in when he speaks on Monday night at the DNC, and sets a theme for the entire convention of labelling Trump with everything he and the MAGAts have thrown at the Dems for two years.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 31, 2024 5:17 PM |
That's what they get for planning their campaign on a single point of failure.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 31, 2024 5:32 PM |
oh god imagine how hysterical van jones will be
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 31, 2024 6:32 PM |
Biden will conserve his energy, be tanned, rested, and ready, and will deliver a barnburner speech, I'm calling it now.
Not only because it's the right thing to do, but because, when Kamala is elected, it's a feather in his cap, a confirmation of his Presidency.
