Now would be as good a time as any for the show to stop airing these insipid storylines for a while and to come back in a few months. The Tuesday (30th) show does not bode well for the arrival of August unless Leo, who is banging on the door is going to put Connie (and the viewers) out of their misery by killing her and her especially grating voice, not to mention almost non-existent acting skill.

DOOL?

I vote for the Salem Docks where we find a now-teenaged Parker Jonas going undercover as a rentboy as he desperately searches for his boyfriend, Tyler Wilkens, a homeless teen who was kicked out of the house six months ago after his fundie parents found out he was gay!

And is that pimp, Quinn Hudson, we see? .. Recall, Quinn forced Parker's mother, Chole Lane, into prostitution with her working the docks. .. What a coincidence! .. It turns out Quinn now has a stable of twinks he sells to the men of Salem. .. And it looks like Tyler has been taken in by Quinn, with the young man quickly becoming one of Quinn's most popular tricks.

And if/when Parker ever finds Tyler, who will be there to connect the dots that "Tyler Wilkens" is actually "Tyler Kiriakis," Phillip's adopted-out baby?

I could see some bad john roughing Tyler up with Parker finding him and taking him to Salem U. hospital for treatment. .. Perhaps Parker can carry Tyler into the ER like Brady did Chole after she was attacked on the pier!. .. There, Kayla comes into the ER, and when she sees the name "Tyler Wilkens" on the chart, she stops in her tracks and asks, "Pocket? .. POCKET!? .. Is that YOU!?"

The best thing they did with the “mansion” set was make the entry hall look very large. Clever detail for tricking you into thinking the livingroom is grander than it really is.

The neutral color palette is on point too, though about seven years out of date. But why not show the trailer trash that probably watches this what unyielding “good taste” looks like.

Leo and Chad just need to do it.

The only moments worth watching today were those between Chad and Leo. They were genuinely sweet and smoldering, too. A kiss would have been a nice climax. Otherwise, one of the worst episodes in recent memory. Stefan and Gabi and that poem were ponderous at best. I wish Connie had planted a bomb in Bobby's room and we could be spared Jada, Bobby and Stephanie. As for Connie - who did she sleep with to get this gig? There can be no other reason. She is not a fun villainess, nor an original one nor an actress. She is a bore and drags every scene into the murky depths.

I like Connie. She's something different.

As bad as Constantine was for a storyline, Connie is abysmal. The award for the most annoying performance of the week easily goes to Stephanie. Her histrionics over Everett were not even remotely moving and we sat there counting the number of times she loudly sniffled thinking it would eventually cease and yet it didn't.

Nice to see Paul and Andrew and the show would be smart to keep them around for a while. I also enjoyed Fiona but not Brady who seems to grow more bulbous with each viewing. And where is the scar from the heart surgery that gave him Daniel's heart?

If I remember correctly, Andrea isn’t an actress by trade even though she acted in the show.

Andrea is a teacher in Virginia. I believe when they created the role of Hattie; the show paid for Andrea to get a "touch-up" because she has been aging naturally, while our wonderful Dee has had some enhancements over the years. This was back when the show had a lot of cash.

Deidre's twin sister Andrea Hall originally played Marlena's twin sister Samantha Evans from 1977-79. Samantha Evans had some mental problems and at one point took Marlena's place, locking Marlena someplace.

This was back in the days before shows could afford to do split screens with one actor playing both twins. So, a twin storyline was a novelty at the time. Then in the 80s when the budgets were increased and shows could afford to do split screens, one actor playing two roles became somewhat common.

Samantha Evans was killed off by Jake Kositchek, the Salem Strangler in 1982. And then in 1984 after Marlena gave birth to twins, she named her new daugther Samantha after her sister.

Then in 2000-01, Andrea Evans returned to the show, this time playing Hattie, a waitress who had a passing resemblance to Marlena and who for some reason had a grudge against Marlena (I forget why). Stefano, through his henchmen, convinced Hattie to get plastic surgery to look exactly like Marlena. Then Stefano taught Hattie how to impersonate Marlena, with the eventual plan being for Hattie to take Marlena's place after Stefano kidnapped Marlena. But then that storyline was suddenly dropped for some reason and Hattie left town.

Hattie has turned up several more times since 2001, but Deidre Hall played her on each return visit.

Looking back on his tenure, I think Ron needed a co-head writer (his equal) to balance out his default 80s camp tendencies. Days have always had comic relief, but it was never silly. I hope the new writers don't let us down. The new EP has been with the show a long time, but I do wish they would have gone another route.

Friday's show was beyond dull. The never-ending prattle between Stefan and Kristen about his dalliance with Ava was endless. Who cares! As for Stephanie and Alex - the breaking of the dishes and tedium associated with any scene containing one or the other or both, served no purpose for any story advancement.

This was the worst end of the week episode in recent memory.

The Leo and Hattie scenes as well as Bonnie auditioning more than made up for the absolute tedium that is Stefan and Ava regurgitating the hook-up as well as Gabi and Connie. Tom Langan was fired before it started but some of his ideas were recycled in the Salem Staker story.

This video was at the end of Langan's tenure, it sets up some of the Ghosts story with the pinprick in the cushion. Joseph Mascolo had quit the show at the end of the Hattie story, and it caused Days to hire new writers who needed to scramble new ideas.

At the video at E358 is not the voice of Joe Mascolo saying "Sleep, Marlena. Sleep"... I'm pretty sure this is the end of Tom Langan's reign and the beginning of the being impregnated by aliens story. It was a really weird time for the show.

The possession story was disliked by a number of fans, yet it proved popular with younger audiences and injected some interest into the show. I really liked the The Queen of the Night setup for the possession storyline.

Before that, Marlena had stripped for Stefano at Maison Blanch when she and John were being held captive by him (and his henchwoman Celeste), which did something terrible to Stefano's obsessive brain.

The affair was inevitable. When Dee and Wayne returned in 91, I think they thought they could recreate that old OG Roman and Marlena chemistry, but it was gone. Jim Reilly gave an interview at the time in which he politely said that the show was stupid not to go the triangle route when they were first brought back. The affair was the first story in his Bible.

Many fans misunderstood what the possession story was really about and didn't like it. They took it literally instead of looking at the story's deeper meaning. And while Jim Reilly was not above shenanigans to get people tuned in. Marlena turning into a panther and levitating was to get people talking and sampling the show, with the hopes that they would stay for the love story. And they did.

When Ron revisited it, that was a campy mess with no relation to the original. Ron doesn't do deep and psychological.
