North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper removes himself from Harris VP consideration
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has taken himself out of consideration to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ potential running mate, according to two sources familiar with the discussions.
Cooper, viewed as one of the top contenders for the role, is said to have expressed concern about going through the veepstakes process at age 67. There has also been concern among some Democrats about Mark Robinson, the state’s Republican lieutenant governor whom the state constitution says would perform the governor’s duties when the governor is absent from the state.

The governor’s decision to pull his name from consideration as Harris’ running mate is only the latest sign that the search has entered a new phase, two people familiar with the matter said.
Cooper, the oldest candidate under consideration, had the longest standing relationship with Harris. But his age was thought to be at odds with Harris’ push for a vigorous, younger ticket, the sources said.

Oh God. Please don't let it be Secretary Pete. Pushing one boulder up a hill is hard enough.

Mark Robinson is batshit crazy and Cooper must serve out his term if his departure means Robertson would inherit the governorship.

He’s too old. He’s probably not really in the running.

Is Robinson the guy that said "some people ought to be killed"?

This bodes well for Beshear, the youngest on the VP list.

The Holy Bible reads: “and a child shall lead them…” Do any of the contenders have a newborn 👶, a known zygote?

What does this even mean? 67 isnt that old to have the process be that taxing. Or are there skeletons to hide in all those 67 years?

It’s going to be Mark kelly or Shapiro.

I admit I'm kind of surprised Shapiro is still a finalist given the sexual harassment coverup controversy, not to mention the possibility he would turn off younger voters whom Harris (and the Dems as a whole) very much needs. But even Jon Favreau said on MSNBC tonight that Shapiro is one of his top picks, so perhaps Harris's team sees internal polling that picking him wouldn't hurt her that badly after all? Just wondering.

David Hogg already said that his coalition will NOT be voting for Shapiro.
I hope Kamala's team is listening, because picking him could be a critical mistake.

He would not be "mean," not in his nature.

R27 He is such a stunt queen. Can someone answer me this? Does surviving a mass shooting make one holier than thou? I’d still fuck him senseless.

R3, he doesn’t have to resign as Governor to run as VP. The whole, “he has to protect NC from Mark Robinson” argument is false and debunked by all of the local NC news outlets.
His wife and daughters either told him they didn’t want him to run, or he’s been given Attorney General, which he would like more than VP anyway.

R27, how much influence does David Hogg really have? 99% of Americans have probably never heard of him.

R32 - With David Hogg, maybe the issue is not so much how much influence he has as an individual; maybe it's about what people like him (young progressives) think.

It’s been a funny week seeing a 60 year old woman called a baby, young, fresh, vital, beautiful, energized at the same time that Olympics commentators talk about 40 year old LeBron and any athlete over 30 like they’re ready for Shady Pines!

Gary Peters is 65. But can he bring Michigan onboard?
I still think the charismatic Tim Walz is the one. Even The Guardian is promoting him. Love his "weird" comment which seems to be catching on. Just saw Rick Wilson of Lincoln Project emphasizing how "weird" the Trump/Vance duo are.

Mark Kelly is supposedly good on the border - not sure what that means but it could be a weak point for Kamala which he might shore up. Plus help with Arizona's EVs

Sounds like the 17 year old guy who killed two children and critically injured a few more near Liverpool, England, is the son of Rwandan immigrants. Being England, it was a stabbing and not a shooting like it would have been here.
I don't know if that story will get traction over here, but Kelly might matter on the immigrant front.
And the children were age 6 to 12 and were at a Taylor Swift themed dance class.

R39, isn't Mark Kelly a big supporter of transing kids? Andy Beshear defends it too. If you want to look to the UK for how issues could play out in the US, then the High Court's declaration yesterday that the ban on puberty blockers is lawful might not be a plus for those two.
