James Woods says he was left out of awards season for ‘Oppenheimer’ because he supports Trump

“ The actor, who executive produced 2023’s Best Picture-winning feature, said during Megyn Kelly’s SiriusXM radio show that he was asked not to promote the historical film due to his very public support of Donald Trump.

“When ‘Oppenheimer’ came out, there was a discussion about my Twitter, and it was gently suggested that I basically remain invisible, which was painful,” Woods said.

Woods was an EP on the film after purchasing the rights to the nonfiction book “American Prometheus” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, on which Christopher Nolan based the screenplay. “Oppenheimer” went on to win a slew of Oscars and also make history as the highest-grossing biopic ever.

“On the other hand, I’m a pragmatic person and I thought, a lot of people put their effort into this,” Woods said. “So I’m just going to be an invisible pariah because the people who are going to be voting for Oscars, which is very important for a film, to get Oscars — because it does help with the financial reward and the historical archive in which it will rest forever: Academy Award-winning Best Picture ‘Oppenheimer.’ I don’t want to deprive those people.”

Woods added he didn’t want people to refuse to watch the movie because of him.

“I don’t want that to happen and have the clickbait story be, ‘James Woods is the executive producer, we’re not going to watch that movie,'” Woods said. “So I stepped back and basically took one for the team. I was not even invited to the Producers Guild of America awards. And I’m a producer. By the way, it won.”

Yeah, and?

You should be. You made your choice. Choices have consequences..

Fuck you, Woods.

by Anonymousreply 1July 29, 2024 11:20 PM

Yuck. I was going to watch this tonight; glad I learned the truth in time.

by Anonymousreply 2July 29, 2024 11:23 PM

You're an asshole, Jimmy Woods, Trump or no Trump.

by Anonymousreply 3July 29, 2024 11:23 PM

Awww, poor baby, what a bummer.

by Anonymousreply 4July 29, 2024 11:30 PM

Delicate snowflake. Fuck his feelings.

by Anonymousreply 5July 29, 2024 11:33 PM

Poor chap and he made so much money out of it. F*ck off Woods.

by Anonymousreply 6July 29, 2024 11:34 PM

It wasn't because he supported trump but the Way he supported him

by Anonymousreply 7July 29, 2024 11:34 PM

Thoughts and prayers

by Anonymousreply 8July 29, 2024 11:43 PM

tots and pears

by Anonymousreply 9July 29, 2024 11:49 PM

So weird.

by Anonymousreply 10July 29, 2024 11:53 PM

James Woods is such a radioactive asshole he's probably right.

by Anonymousreply 11July 30, 2024 12:01 AM

Thanks for the heads up, I will not be watching

by Anonymousreply 12July 30, 2024 12:03 AM

I thought Executive Producers don't get the awards? Just the producer-producers. He was only EP because he bought the rights to the book.

by Anonymousreply 13July 30, 2024 12:05 AM

What the hell? How much money did he make from this movie?

by Anonymousreply 14July 30, 2024 12:07 AM

What of it? Sounds like a perfectly valid reason to me.

by Anonymousreply 15July 30, 2024 12:08 AM

James can go fuck himself, preferably with a barbeque brush.

by Anonymousreply 16July 30, 2024 12:11 AM

Like Sharon Stone, James Woods claims to be a genius with an IQ of 180. He supposedly went to MIT but I doubt he has a huge IQ. His IQ is 180 and yet he voted for Trump

by Anonymousreply 17July 30, 2024 12:17 AM

This softie, pink-loving Carebear-loving assholemakes my 8-year-old niece look like The Hulk.

by Anonymousreply 18July 30, 2024 12:19 AM

[quote] I thought Executive Producers don't get the awards?

EPs don't qualify for Oscars, so when Oppenheimer won, Woods didn't get an actual statue. However, when it won best picture, one of the accepting Producers thank him by name (among lots of other people.), but still he whines. Only producers qualify, and even the producer number is limited to about three people who could actually get a statue for winning best picture.

by Anonymousreply 19July 30, 2024 12:22 AM

Isn't he rumored to be the sperm donor for Jodie Foster's son?

by Anonymousreply 20July 30, 2024 12:23 AM

It's not so much that Woods supports Dump (although that doesn't help him in Hollywood)- it's more that he is a HUGE fucking asshole and a really genuinely nasty person judging by the comments he makes on his social media accounts.

by Anonymousreply 21July 30, 2024 12:25 AM

Good.

by Anonymousreply 22July 30, 2024 12:26 AM

R1 so he shouldn’t be able to enjoy the fruits of his labor because he’s a Republican? That makes sense to you?

by Anonymousreply 23July 30, 2024 12:29 AM

R23 of course that’s not what anyone is saying you dumb cunt. People enjoy the fruits of heir labor from a paycheck.

by Anonymousreply 24July 30, 2024 12:34 AM

I didn’t realize he was in that. I don’t think anybody really cares what he does

by Anonymousreply 25July 30, 2024 12:35 AM

People in Hollywood shouldn't discuss politics. That includes the Democrat George Clooney. They are completely out of touch with the average working citizen. If they cared so much then why don't they take their millions, buy some land, and build affordable housing for everyone?

Reminds me of those shitty New Orleans homes that Brad Pitt built. Why not just buy houses that were for sale in the same area and give the keys to people who needed them?

Vanity. He fancied himself an architect or designer or something.

by Anonymousreply 27July 30, 2024 12:45 AM

R13 is correct. Executive producer may have very little to do with the actual production of the film. It may be someone who bought the film rights at some point and did some development, which is the case here.

A famous instance is Jon Peters, who is credited as EP of Superman Returns and Man of Steel despite having nothing to do with either movie. He was able to attach himself due to clauses from his ownership of the rights in the 1990s when he attempted to make Tim Burton's Superman Lives.

by Anonymousreply 28July 30, 2024 12:46 AM

No, Jimmy, it's because you're a lousy actor in a part nobody saw if they blinked.

by Anonymousreply 29July 30, 2024 12:47 AM

Maybe, but wasn't he hated BEFORE Trump too?

by Anonymousreply 30July 30, 2024 12:49 AM

He's right for once.

by Anonymousreply 31July 30, 2024 12:56 AM

Poor ‘wittle snowflake, JHC, these maga people are always playing the victim card.

by Anonymousreply 32July 30, 2024 12:58 AM

Mr. Woods...you made your choice.

by Anonymousreply 33July 30, 2024 4:33 AM

You got your deserves, James Woods.

by Anonymousreply 34July 30, 2024 4:42 AM

Maybe they asked him not to promote it because he’s a complete asshole, and he had no part in the film other than squatting on the book rights?

by Anonymousreply 35July 30, 2024 4:50 AM

Maybe cause mofos realize the character you played in Ghosts of Mississippi, bitch you wasn’t acting.

by Anonymousreply 36July 30, 2024 5:13 AM

Got it in one r36.

Plus, he’s even uglier and nastier up close.

by Anonymousreply 37July 30, 2024 6:13 AM

Maybe nobody likes you, weirdo

by Anonymousreply 38July 30, 2024 6:27 AM

Old and weird. Creepy.

by Anonymousreply 39July 30, 2024 6:29 AM

Sad to see Woods and Jon Voight devolve into MAGAts. Maybe they should be given Dishonorary Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 40July 30, 2024 7:25 AM

What did he say that was untrue?

by Anonymousreply 41July 30, 2024 7:27 AM

The fact that he's a cunt is more true, r41.

by Anonymousreply 42July 30, 2024 7:42 AM

I won't be watching this movie either now that I know Woods was involved with it.

by Anonymousreply 43July 30, 2024 7:43 AM

Why would Woods being EP make anyone not watch the movie?

To me his being a nut case is irrelevant; Christopher Nolan is a really good filmmaker, and that in itself should be enough of a reason for anyone to see Oppenheimer - in addition to the fact that it also happens to be a good film.

by Anonymousreply 44July 30, 2024 8:06 AM

Please. If you're a public figure in Hollywood and you insist on openly supporting an unhinged, malevolent, convicted felon and would-be dictator running for president, don't start whining about how you're being ostracized. You got what you deserved, And to the people on this thread saying, "He isn't wrong," you're obviously Trump supporters yourself. Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 45July 30, 2024 8:44 AM

The poor soul. The humanity! /s

by Anonymousreply 46July 30, 2024 8:51 AM

Who on this thread is saying, "He isn't wrong"?

by Anonymousreply 47July 30, 2024 8:51 AM

This is publicist-driven bullshit to make sure we don't forget who James Woods is.
