burritos vs. chimichangas

What's the difference?

by Anonymousreply 19July 30, 2024 8:33 AM

Chimis are fried burritos.

Not officially, but most commercial chimichangas have rice but no beans, while burritos have beans. I think beans might explode in the deep fryer?

I hate sauce on my chimichanga because it makes it soft and then you may as well have a regular burrito

I'm not a big fan of chimichangas because flour tortillas suck up a LOT of oil when frying.

I've seen bean chimis before...I really think you can make a chimi out of most anything.

However, deep frying is messy. Does anyone have any experience making chimis using an air fryer?

Chimis are from Arizona. Burritos are from California

Mihas! Mihas!! Ambas son putas gordas!!!

I fry my chimichangas in the air fryer. I spray them with oil, and they get crispy and a nice brown color.

I like to use leftover cumin pork roast, sometimes chicken, for the meat.

Restaurants deep-fry the chimichanga. Beans might make you fart, but they won't make a chimichanga explode.

IMO, burritos are already comfort food (flour tortilla, soft fillings, etc.). No need to deep-fry.

Completely agree, r9. it's unnecessary and I really don't like the texture of fried flour tortilla. Fried corn tortillas is different.

I also don't like all the deep fried "fair" foods either.

I do like "wet" burritos, though. Which takes it into enchilada territory.

Excuse me... *fried corn tortillas ARE different.

Chimis are too much. No need to fry and a damn burrito.

That said, I could eat a burrito every single day of my life and never tire of it.

Chimichangas are not from Mexico, they were invented in the US.

Burritos actually do exist in Mexico so there.

r14 and...?

I think this is about people's preferences - whether they like burritos or chimis better. Not where they originated.

Authenticity matters r15.

Chimichangas give me fond memories of Chi Chi's restaurant. There was one by my high school and my best friend and I would skip school and go eat there.

Texas, R17?

by Anonymousreply 18July 30, 2024 3:54 AM

r18 it was in the midwest, back then it was what we considered Mexican food.
