Miss Congeniality turns the big 6-0. Favorite movie by her? Mine is Practical Magic.
While You Were Sleeping. Bill Pullman and Peter Gallagher were extremely fuckable. Pullman and Bullock had great chemistry too. One of my favorite films.

Sandra Bullock is the Ryan Reynolds of women-- smug, overrated and unlikable.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 27, 2024 5:42 PM |
I don’t think she’s a fantastic actress, and my old boyfriend characterized her as “a smooth, plastic space” - and yet, I still like her. She has onscreen charisma and a movie star appeal that we seldom see today.
She seems like she has a solid character and good business sense. I’m sorry she had to go through this with her partner.
Also, she has a sense of humor about herself. Respect to her and Halle Berry for showing up to pick up their Razzies.

R2 I enjoyed both of them in The Proposal. She was super funny. Underrated type of performance. You need a lot of nuance to pull off being uptight yet hilarious at the same time. Happy bday Sandy, to many more.

R5 We grew up with real good actors. I appreciate that so much now. Not naming names…
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 27, 2024 5:52 PM |
She gets a lot of praise for adopting black children but she only adopted them to distract from her marriage breakup. Her then husband was exposed as a pathological cheat who was surrounded by white supremacists and Nazis and there were gang ties. There was white power tattoos on him and his motorcycle clientele were Nazi, racists etc, he was putting their symbols on their motorcycles, many of his affair partners had Nazi/White Power symbols. All the news at the time was going on about it nonstop.
It looked like her career was over, not because of the cheating but the Nazi, racist crowd who she had spent years being around.
She disappeared for three months and then magically appears on the cover of People with a black baby. The media never mentioned the Nazi, WS associations again. From then on, only positive "look at how totally not racist she is" publicity. They scrubbed the internet of the previous controversy.
Her PR is something else. I don't believe for one second that she's not doing bad things to those kids.
Another one is Charlize Theron who complained about the fall of apartheid in South Africa in interviews in the nineties. When she went looking for a kid, she went to SA demanding they give her a black baby, they refused her so she bought two from the US and sex changed the boy at three.
It's disturbing that racists are allowed to adopt black babies, it's disturbing that any ill intentioned person can buy a baby in the US. Neither of the above women would have been allowed to adopt a kid in most countries given their backgrounds.

R7 This is really harsh. She’s admitted that she has a penchant for “dirty guys with fast cars” and that she was blindsided by him. Old habits die hard, after all. The tea is that I’ve been a fan for almost 30 years and I want nothing but the best for Sandy. She’s one of the few celebs who always donated a big chunk during major events (Katrina, 2004 Tsunami, 2011 Tsunami, underprivileged schools, and many other “non-event” causes) and I’ve admired her for that very much. Jesse James can burn.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 27, 2024 6:05 PM |
All this discourse about her character because she was with Jesse James for 5 years out of her 60 years of life is so belittling. She denounced and divorced his ass almost 15 years ago (she refused to let her African American child be raised with him though they initially adopted Louis TOGETHER), so these people need to direct their anger towards JESSE, y’know... the Nazi!?

Hope Floats was filmed in my hometown when I was really young and the town basically made it our whole thing for most of the 90s-00s. Everyone told stories for decades about how nice she was.

Sandra during the 2018 Oscars telecast:
"Wow, it's bright," Sandra said to the crowd. "It's really bright. Guys, the set looks amazing, everything looks really great. It's really well-lit, but can we just dim it just a little bit so I can go back to my 40s?"
"A little lower, 39, keep going, 38, 38, 38, no, 35, now that's the sweet spot!" she joked. "Thank goodness I'm not presenting with Gal Gadot tonight, it'd be like looking in a mirror for her right now, you know what I'm saying?"
I like her.

Miss Congeniality 2 is a bit of a cult fave among the queer community for good reason. The token heterosexual romance that defines the first movie is replaced by a chemistry and innuendo laden friendship between Bullock and a black women in the FBI. It’s refreshing.

I've loved her since I saw her in her pre-fame films "Love Potion No. 9" (which she starred in her with her ex, Tate Donovan) and the "Big Chill"-esque ensemble flick "When The Party's Over." She graduated from those films to roles in "The Vanishing," "The Thing Called Love" and "Demolition Man," but once she got "Speed," the rest was history.

I also like her for alluding to what an asshole Clooney is especially his pranks. When I lived in L.A. I had also heard that Clooney's pranks are often mean spirited. He must have a lot of pent-up anger behind the jokester facade.

R1 already said what I was going to say. While You Were Sleeping really touched me -I am also alone in the world and feel it during the holidays. Maybe it was me bringing my emotions to the film, but Bullock really made those raw emotions real. The whole cast had great chemistry -a truly wonderful ensemble.
As for her personal life -It's HER life, folks. That she has made mistakes just makes her more relatable to me.

Sandra Bullock’s Oscar win for The Blind Side was a terrible, politically motivated choice by the Academy to award her for a white savior-type role. The movie has aged like milk thanks to the stories Michael has recounted about being forced into a conservatorship by the family and not being adopted.
To be fair, it’s not Sandra’s fault at all, it’s the script and direction she was given. Her performance in the movie was good for the material that was given to her, but Oscar-worthy good? I don’t think so.
God help me but she was much better in The Proposal. And it’s bad luck Blue Jasmine came out the same year as Gravity, otherwise Sandra would have won (which would have been deserved).

Watched a cbs interview where she says she is taking a break from acting. Although practical magic 2 is on the cards. I’ve adored her for years, practical magic started it. Her 90s films are my favorites. Although Gravity is pretty epic. Fire in the Amazon only time she flashed her boobs I think. Never did nude scenes as far as Im.aware. Classy dame.

R7 KNOWS why she adopted her son.
Okay, Kreskin.
What an idiotic, offensive thing to say. She adopted a child who needed a home, and didn’t have to have a blond, blue-eyed white kid. Love her even more for that.

I do find it hard to believe that she dated and then married Jessie James without knowing he was into Nazi memorabilia and symbols. Was it bearding? Seems like it.
That said, I think she is better-looking than Julia Roberts. If I had to choose who I'd rather look like, it would be SB (vs. JR).
I like that she doesn't live in LA and doesn't do pap strolls like some of her peers do.
She does seem like she'd be nice to a random stranger.

Sandra Bullock owns a couple of small businesses in Austin (or used to). One is called Walton’s Fancy and Staple and is kind of an eatery where you can also buy succulents and flowers and such. It is in a turn of the century building and has an old apothecary vibe with brick walls and industrial/vintage bathrooms.
Anyway, my work team used to meet there years ago for our weekly meetings and she was there one morning. She is much more petite than I expected and she is much prettier, too. Her features are softer and her skin is gorgeous.
I’ve heard that Miss Congeniality is funny but the trailers just showed her tripping in high heels, so I never bothered. Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

R7, as a person who has a thing for burly tattooed men, I kind of understand. Everybody makes mistakes in judgment about others sometimes and there are a lot of manipulative assholes out there. Like a decade ago, I dated a guy who turned out to be a real POS with very questionable beliefs that he kept hidden from me for years. I ignored a lot of red flags, but he was also actively lying to me about a lot.
Sandra divorced him and moved on; everything I've ever read about her is positive. I assume, like many people, she got caught up in a bad relationship with a shitty person. That doesn't necessarily make her shitty.

I had a friend who worked at the bakery in ATX she runs with her sister. Everyone calls her Sandy, and she's great and friendly when she visits. However, one of the chefs introduced the owners to his pie that I think ran in his family. They loved it and asked to place it on the menu. Well, later on, Sandy is on a late night show and is asked about the bakery. The chef was at home watching the show, and Sandy mentions the pie on their menu. The chef guy stood up in shock that his pie was brought up and was so excited to be credited for it. But sadly, sandy told the talk show host that it ran in HER family. He was devastated. I don't know anything else about that.

I was a dayplaying crew member on one of movies a while ago, and there is a tacit etiquette that you don't talk to the talent unless you're part of the main crew. She and I were standing at the crafty table, and I don't know why, I blurted out, "I love your shoes" (I think they were Louboutins) and she was so affable and replied, "I KNOW, I love them too!" then Crafty rolled in some more snacks on a cart, and she said, "I wish that we had one of these at my house so Jesse and I can stay in bed, roll over and grab a snack off the cart". She was so personable and charming, that I'm glad that she's weathered this bad old town.
