This is obviously an attempt to showcase her 'singing' talent. She sounded fake, autotuned, and quite different from her usual voice.

JLo only has a career because Tommy Mottola was mad at Mariah Carey and wanted to get back at her. He even gave Mariah’s original “Loverboy” sample to JLo. Luckily for Mariah, JLo can’t sing OR write, so there was no artistic persona for fans to latch onto. The joke was ultimately on Mottola when JLo started flopping after a few years and Mariah rose from the ashes with the Emancipation of Mimi album.

Say what you will about her but that tweet that did the rounds recently about how no matter what you never see her looking sad, depressed or a mess is so real. She’s never (publicly) let shit stop her and that is something to respect.

Well, I listened. And as someone who understands music and vocal pedagogy above the average person (not an expert!) from where she started to now, she has improved. Significantly.

She is still not great but I noticed when she sang for the inauguration, she had improved her chest voice and was slightly more sustained in the bigger moments.

She is far better now than when she started.

That being said her range is very limited. She needs to accept that she is not a mezzo soprano. She is a solid alto and needs to stay in that range.
