Glen Powell is this generations Paul Newman, according to Paul Schrader

He wants to see Powell do a film like “HUD”.

“The “Oh, Canada” writer/director posted on Facebook that Powell is akin to Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, and William Holden in terms of his star power.

“Glen Powell is a movie star in the Holden/Mitchum/Newman mold,” Schrader wrote. “Now he needs to make his ‘Hud.'”

He’s not even this generation’s William Holden.

by Anonymousreply 1July 26, 2024 1:23 AM

I see him ore as this generation's Maria Montez.

I’m surprised this headlining read:

[quote] Glen Powell is this generation’s Paul Newman, according to Glen Powell

by Anonymousreply 3July 26, 2024 1:26 AM

I like Glen Powell fine, but he doesn't have Paul Newman's acting chops. At least based on the roles I've seen him in so far.

by Anonymousreply 4July 26, 2024 1:33 AM

Powell is a one-trick pony. He’s very good at what he does and is very charismatic and charming. But he isn’t some versatile talent.

by Anonymousreply 5July 26, 2024 1:35 AM

His mouth creeps me out. The delivery doctor was not gentle with the forceps during his birth.

by Anonymousreply 6July 26, 2024 1:37 AM

Who's Paul Newman?

by Anonymousreply 7July 26, 2024 1:47 AM

I can't wait to try his pizza, tomato sauce, and salad dressing!

by Anonymousreply 8July 26, 2024 1:51 AM

Not a chance. Everyone knows it's Bradley James

by Anonymousreply 9July 26, 2024 2:28 AM

[quote] Everyone knows it's Bradley James

Seriously? Compare and contrast Powell and James.

by Anonymousreply 10July 26, 2024 2:33 AM

I thought he was the new Matthew McConaughey and before that I thought they said he was the new Tom Cruise. I can't keep track.

by Anonymousreply 11July 26, 2024 2:36 AM

He's a male version of JLo. Delusional and narcissistic. Pretty soon he's going to start whining about being overlooked by the Academy.

by Anonymousreply 12July 26, 2024 2:37 AM

Hollywood is desperately begging us to embrace this guy. He doesn't have a ton of range and the whole bits involving his dog and his parents cameoing in all his movies have been really thirsty and cringe worthy.

by Anonymousreply 13July 26, 2024 2:43 AM

He’s not even this generation’s Paul Reiser.

Paul Schrader must need some cash or some type of blackmail is involved.

by Anonymousreply 14July 26, 2024 2:46 AM

Overexposure is fine but you have to have the goods to back it up.

by Anonymousreply 15July 26, 2024 2:47 AM

Paul Newman wishes he had the ass and huge crotch of Glen, the greatest superstar since Chad Everett .

by Anonymousreply 16July 26, 2024 2:50 AM

Schrader’s judgement these days is…questionable, to say the least:

I'm not a hater and I actually think he's more charismatic than Chalamet. I do think it's odd that following Anyone But You there was this big push for him. I don't think his acting or appeal had anything to do with the film's box office receipts. If anything, Sydney Sweeney's Euphoria fanbase along with word of mouth contributed to the big box office. Personally, I thought Anyone But You was an average romcom and not a particularly funny one.

by Anonymousreply 18July 26, 2024 2:56 AM

This all seems like it's from the Weinstein playbook on pushing starlets.

I like Glen Powell, but he's simply not megastar material.

by Anonymousreply 19July 26, 2024 3:01 AM

Glen swallows.

by Anonymousreply 20July 26, 2024 3:12 AM

There was nothing memorable or special about him in Top Gun: Maverick.

by Anonymousreply 21July 26, 2024 3:14 AM

He's better looking than Paul Newman, who always had a gut on him.

by Anonymousreply 22July 26, 2024 3:19 AM

I only see him when there's a camera around.

by Anonymousreply 23July 26, 2024 3:20 AM

R22 = Calista Flockhart

by Anonymousreply 24July 26, 2024 3:38 AM

Hey he's ambitious. Who wouldn't say no when there's a new offer coming in every week.

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2024 4:27 AM

I liked seeing his naked ass, but I dislike having him pushed on us as if he's some sort of major talent.

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2024 7:20 AM

He’s this generation’s Pia Zadora….

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2024 7:53 AM

He has in red Russian face. Are these people blind or what?

by Anonymousreply 28July 26, 2024 9:15 AM

INBRED.

by Anonymousreply 29July 26, 2024 9:15 AM

I don't know much but I do know I'd rather look at Powell than be forced to look at Chalamet being continually shoved down our throats.

by Anonymousreply 30July 26, 2024 9:18 AM

His body anyway…

by Anonymousreply 31July 26, 2024 9:42 AM

Who are these people who want to replace people we already know?

by Anonymousreply 32July 26, 2024 10:36 AM

They are desperate for movies stars, aren’t they.

They can’t even force Armie Hammer on us any more, nor pretend Ansel Elgort isn’t an uninteresting flop.

by Anonymousreply 33July 26, 2024 10:37 AM

I could see Powell in “Oh, Calcutta!” Schrader should float “the new Paul Newman” in that first.

by Anonymousreply 34July 26, 2024 11:30 AM

[quote] Glen Powell is this generations Paul Newman

Funny, he doesn't look like a 5 foot tall bisexual to me.

by Anonymousreply 35July 26, 2024 12:07 PM

Discussing Twisters with a friend, I told her the lead guy was the next bug thing. She said, Oh yeah he's sexy. But she nor anyone else present knew his name. Then I said he got his break in TG Maverick and they all tried to workout who he had been in that movie, that they all agreed was brilliant. It was funny to see them suggest who he mustve played in that movie. No one was in agreement...they had no recollection of his character.

by Anonymousreply 36July 26, 2024 12:24 PM

Glen Powell was fortunate enough to be in a few recently successful films. It's about timing and luck and promotion. If his films had instead been flops, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

by Anonymousreply 37July 26, 2024 1:24 PM

Oh, R22, you ARE Datalounge! Only here could Paul Newman be so described. I just did a Google image search ("paul newman shirtless"), and 50 pics in there's not a "gut" to be seen.

by Anonymousreply 38July 26, 2024 1:30 PM

Is Paul Schrader related to Helen Keller?

by Anonymousreply 39July 26, 2024 2:22 PM

He doesn’t have much of an ass.

by Anonymousreply 40July 26, 2024 2:28 PM

I guess he'll be Sexiest Man alive this year.

by Anonymousreply 41July 26, 2024 8:23 PM

[quote] If his films had instead been flops, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Yes, we would. Because then Glen would be on OnlyFans and you horny homo hippos would be posting non-stop about him
