So, all it took to convince the guy to move was a comedy show and some pizza? The woman is clearly wearing the pants in that arrangement.

by Anonymousreply 2July 25, 2024 2:41 PM

Gotta love the NY Times.

by Anonymousreply 3July 25, 2024 2:52 PM

I’m the three cats!

by Anonymousreply 4July 25, 2024 3:03 PM

Which one did they pick? The archived article doesn't reveal. I don't like any of them so I would choose the last one with the best location. I like the separate kitchen, sick of open plans.

Stories like these, recipes, and puzzles are pretty much all they're good for these days, R3.

They picked the Updated Pre-War Co-op. They negotiated the price down to $765k. The monthly maintenance fees are $1700.

R6. I agree except that the recipes are often not very good.

Two kids with just a dream moving to the Big Apple!

And $800,000. And rich parents to back up that $800,000, just in case.

Living their best lives.

by Anonymousreply 9July 25, 2024 4:10 PM

I had dear friends who lived in the 3rd building pictured in the article. I spent a lot of time there.

by Anonymousreply 10July 25, 2024 4:28 PM

Those two seem like a really nice couple. The apartment looks perfectly appropriate for them and is inexpensive for NYC. Nothing to criticize here.

by Anonymousreply 11July 25, 2024 4:34 PM

I guess.

At least these two tech bros aren’t gentrifying a Black or Latino neighborhood in some random city.

She's a co-founding partner of whatever it is her startup (2022) does. As for him, the engineering manager at Toast, "the estimated total pay range for a[n] Engineering Manager at Toast Inc is $207K–$288K per year, which includes base salary and additional pay."

They probably didn't need to slip their crafty fingers too deep in their collective parents' pockets. Even if their parents contributed to the apartment it probably wasn't a case of backing up a solid gold armored truck to the door of their new co-op. (Strangely, it's only in the U.S. that people find something deeply wrong with parents helping financially with their children's housing -- if in fact the unmentioned in the article parents contributed anything.)

Here's a dump that they could have bought in San Diego for $725,000 where she lived before the move.

I can see why they moved.

Nothing to criticize here? Maybe not from their core audience of petit bourgeoise and hangers-on.

by Anonymousreply 14July 25, 2024 5:59 PM

Bourgeois, damn it.

by Anonymousreply 15July 25, 2024 6:01 PM

3 cats in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment? That place will stink to high heaven.

by Anonymousreply 16July 25, 2024 6:06 PM

Cats belong outside.

She’s a malcontent childless cat lady!!!
