They picked the Updated Pre-War Co-op. They negotiated the price down to $765k. The monthly maintenance fees are $1700.

I had dear friends who lived in the 3rd building pictured in the article. I spent a lot of time there.

Those two seem like a really nice couple. The apartment looks perfectly appropriate for them and is inexpensive for NYC. Nothing to criticize here.

Even if their parents contributed to the apartment it probably wasn't a case of backing up a solid gold armored truck to the door of their new co-op. (Strangely, it's only in the U.S. that people find something deeply wrong with parents helping financially with their children's housing -- if in fact the unmentioned in the article parents contributed anything.)

Here's a dump that they could have bought in San Diego for $725,000 where she lived before the move.
