What is Palm Beach, Florida like?

Anyone who has lived there or travels there often?

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2024 8:23 PM

Take the Beverly Hills flats

Subtract traffic

Subtract Persian and Armenian Jews

Add humidity

Add mosquitos

Add coconut palms

Add Lily Pulitzer and Tommy Bahama

Add Republicans

Add a beach

and you have Palm Beach.

What do many of you think of "Palm Beach style" when it comes to interiors and homes?

by Anonymousreply 2July 24, 2024 10:53 PM

R1 I could probably deal with everything on that list but Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 3July 24, 2024 10:54 PM

I used to live in Palm Beach County, not the city. R1 is fairly spot on. I would add that the dominant culture is east coast (mainly NYC) and Jewish.

^^True, everyone Tawks like dis

West Palm Beach is full of wealthy gays.

In Palm Beach, Florida all seems to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

by Anonymousreply 7July 25, 2024 2:52 PM

Just wait for the next big hurricane to hit them. That should be... interesting.

Palm Beach is nothing more than a megabuck trailer park with MAG-A-Lardo it's crowning jewel

Lovely, languid water views

But Boring place to live

Beautifully furnished interiors

But Boring place to die

“Classy,” overpriced restaurants that slavishly cater to an overwhelmingly elderly clientele (pasta doesn’t come al dente because it’s too tough on dentures).

I do love the "Palm Beach style" for homes.

by Anonymousreply 12July 26, 2024 4:10 PM

Beautiful - my cousin lives there. I really do love visiting.

by Anonymousreply 13July 26, 2024 4:26 PM

It’s all Upper East Side gays who work in antique galleries, museums or fashion and who love getting dressed up (blazers are a must at cocktail parties). Walkers like Jerry Zipkin or Jonathan Adler.

They slum it in Fort Lauderdale when they need to remind themselves they’re gay and want to get laid.

You can save money on airfare and just get the book.

Fun fact - maybe 15 - 20 years ago, Palm Beach had a nice and sizeable gay nightlife, nude stripper bar, leather bars, bear bars. All long gone

by Anonymousreply 16July 26, 2024 5:30 PM

They sell sunglasses made of gold.

by Anonymousreply 17July 26, 2024 5:31 PM

R16 Gay nightlife is gone from most areas now since hookup apps became the norm.

by Anonymousreply 18July 26, 2024 5:35 PM

Lots of bright, floral prints, go to hell pants, martinis and multiple facelifts

by Anonymousreply 19July 26, 2024 7:38 PM

I imagine the city being full of old women trying to look like they're still in their 20s.

by Anonymousreply 20July 26, 2024 7:39 PM

Palm Beach is long in the tooth. Too many old jews and silly fops swanning around in fancy loafers. Gross.

by Anonymousreply 21July 26, 2024 7:53 PM

I was not familiar with the term “go-to-hell pants,” but I knew exactly what they were. Also very popular in Alexandria VA and Point O’ Woods on Fire Island.

by Anonymousreply 22July 26, 2024 7:54 PM

There's a Palm Beach for everyone:

Palm Beach Palm Beach Gardens North Palm Beach Royal Palm Beach South Palm Beach West Palm Beach

by Anonymousreply 23July 26, 2024 8:05 PM

Damn formatting. Let me try that again.

There's a Palm Beach for everyone: Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach, Royal Palm Beach, South Palm Beach, and West Palm Beach.

by Anonymousreply 24July 26, 2024 8:07 PM

There's also the TV series "Palm Beach Royale."

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2024 8:08 PM

West Palm Beach? [sniff] please.

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2024 8:08 PM

Any beach where people dress up is one I will never visit. I like to stay in my shorts and tshirts and relax.
