20ish years ago there was an asshole conservative in Canada - think Stephen Miller but even more reptilian - named Stockwell Day, and a petition to change his name to Doris Day got nearly half a million votes!

Actually, something similar happened to a politician in America as well.
His name is Rick Santorum, a very outspoken anti-gay Republican politician. As a goof, LGBT community activist Dan Savage, launched a contest to coin a "santorum" neologism. The website he set up redefined the name to this:
[bold]Santorum: "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. [/bold]
It went viral and Google algorithm pushed it to the top of the list any time you searched for his name. 😂
