DL FAVE Joan Crawford in STRAIGHTJACKET (1964)

I'm only watching this to watch Joan as a monster but that young man is quite good looking.

Joan had originally hired actress Anne Helm fired and Diane Baker brought on because she knew Diane was NO great actress and wouldn't overshadow her.....William Castle, director, bowed to her decision.

And Lee Majors a football star from the University of Kentucky who fucked Rock Hudson over and over was given a featured part.....

Show business!!!!.

This film is fabulously ALL about the scene where Joan gets all tipsy and flirty with the record player on and trying to hit on the younger guy. All that part needs is for Britney to slide in twerking. 😜

The match!

A modern classic: Joan listens to Vogue

R2- Was Lee Majors GAY for pay or was he a homo or just bi?

by Anonymousreply 8July 24, 2024 1:35 AM

Diane Baker also starred in "The Best of Everything" with Joan.

STRAIGHTJACKET isn't exactly a good movie, it is a very entertaining movie.

by Anonymousreply 13July 24, 2024 4:28 AM

Strait-Jacket!

by Anonymousreply 14July 24, 2024 4:30 AM

But Joan gives 100% as she always did, r13.

When I was a kid and watched her old movies on tv, she scared the shit out of me in every movie she did. Come to think of it, she still scares me when I think of her.

by Anonymousreply 16July 24, 2024 4:34 AM

R16- Not as much as I scare you.

Can anyone tell me what is Lang/Crawford's last line in the clip at R20. I have listened to it a number of times but can't make it out.

At 3:50

by Anonymousreply 22July 24, 2024 9:39 PM

R22: “What the hell is this?! You said no more gimmicks.”

by Anonymousreply 23July 24, 2024 9:50 PM

^ Thanks! It sounded so soft and slurred...or maybe I'm losing my hearing.

Jesica Lange is a fine actress, but the real Joan Crawford was so much prettier. Even as she aged, makeup and eyebrows aside, she retained beautiful bone structure and the remains of a gorgeous woman.

by Anonymousreply 25July 25, 2024 12:31 AM

Miss Joan was probably 70 years old when she made her last public appearance in 1974, and she looked so bad (bad wig, bad makeup) she retreated into seclusion. Jessica, at 75, still looks lovely despite all the wrinkles.

Lang looks like Thelma Ritter trying to portray Crawford in that clip at R20. Joan was still an attractive woman in 1964.

by Anonymousreply 27July 25, 2024 3:24 AM

I'm sure some datalounge queens have seen this before but in some ways this is even more entertaining than the movie.
