Treason Thread #71: Hillbilly Eulogy

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the death of the Trump/Vance ticket. Or maybe the just Trump ticket, give it a few more days for dough boy. No one will mourn, no one will cry (except for Vance’s hillbilly relatives. Moonshine all around!). May you rot in political purgatory for eternity. Or at least in prison. Donations in their memory may be made to Kamala Harris for President.

Rev. Jack Smith, Esq.

R21, there’s no reason for Trump to commit to a debate with Harris before she’s confirmed as the nominee. And I’m sure he’d like to know who the VP nominee will be, too. He has no motivation to commit to debate details before he has to.

What if Trump suddenly dies? Do the Republicans run with Vance at the top of the ticket? Are they legally or constitutionally obliged to?

by Anonymousreply 51July 28, 2024 6:52 AM

If Donald suddenly dies, before or after the election, the Republican Party falls apart.

It is the party of Donald. There is no replacement for Donald. Putin is ineligible.

The reason there was such consternation over the VP spot is that there is NO REPUBLICAN backbench that can take over.

NYT:

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has waded into one of the thorniest issues facing U.S. politics: deepfake videos. On Friday night, Mr. Musk, the billionaire owner of the social media platform X, reposted an edited campaign video for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The video mimics Ms. Harris’s voice, but instead of using her words from the original ad, it has the vice president saying that President Biden is senile, that she does not “know the first thing about running the country” and that, as a woman and a person of color, she is the “ultimate diversity hire.”

Mr. Musk’s post, which has since been viewed 112 million times, would seem to run afoul of X’s policies, which prohibit sharing “synthetic, manipulated or out-of-context media that may deceive or confuse people and lead to harm.”

From Yahoo Comments:

Donald Trump: He promised to cut the deficit. He added $8T to it. promised to build a wall. He only did 458 miles out of 2,000. Most of it was repair or replacement, not new. He promised to make Mexico pay. They didn't. He promised to unveil a new healthcare plan. It didn't exist. He promised a middle-class tax cut. He cut taxes for the rich. The middle class is paying for it. He said he wouldn't play golf as President. He made 250 visits(way more than Obama) to his own golf clubs. It cost taxpayers $150 million. He said he'd increase economic growth by 4%. He didn't. President Biden did. He promised an infrastructure plan. He had none. President Biden signed a massive one. He promised to hire "the best people." He fired 3/4 of them and then said they were the worst ever. He promised to bring down the price of prescription drugs. He didn't: President Biden did. He promised a Hillary lock-up. It didn't happen. Promised we'd win the trade war with China. We didn't, It cost about a quarter million jobs and hurt Americans not help them. He promised his corporate tax cuts would help and benefit Workers and corporations would use that money to invest in American workers. They didn't, they used that money to buy back stocks. He promised to bring back and revive the coal industry. Never happened - more coal jobs were lost during his presidency. He promised to drain the swamp. He didn't: He WAS the swamp. Jan 6th…never forget!!
What if Trump suddenly dies? Do the Republicans run with Vance at the top of the ticket? Are they legally or constitutionally obliged to?

From what I've read, they are not legally obligated at all. If the Republican nominee dies after the convention, the Republican National Committee picks the new nominee. They could go all out and reconvene the Republican Convention and have the delegates revote, or apparently they could just skip that and pick the new nominee themselves.

Generally, they would probably go with the runningmate, but in this case, I really am not sure they'd go with Vance. Might even turn around completely and go with Nikki Haley.

by Anonymousreply 55July 28, 2024 3:34 PM

Now that Haley has eaten Trump shit in public, she might have a chance if the Ferret Support dies.

Reporter recently asked Donald Trump this question:

“Sir, all of us one day will face the grim reaper. At this point in your life, are you more focused on your legacy?”

Trump’s reply:

“I see Lindsey Graham near all the time. But she works from behind mostly and is amazingly talented at it. She though, has no direct role as to my legacy.”

Reporter’s follow-up:

“You misunderstood my question. I was asking if you feel prepared for when the GRIM REAPER comes for you; not your association with Lindsey Graham.”

Trump’s response:

“Oh the GRIM REAPER! I did not hear you well with this patch over my ear. I thought you asked about the GRAND RIMMER.”

WHEN ELECTION NIGHT comes in November, it will be up to thousands of local election officials to certify election results in their counties. Among those election officials are scores of Donald Trump supporters who believe his lies and conspiracies about stolen elections — and will be in prime position to act on those beliefs to try to aid his campaign in November.

In the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Rolling Stone and American Doom identified at least 70 pro-Trump election conspiracists currently working as county election officials who have questioned the validity of elections or delayed or refused to certify results. At least 22 of these county election officials have refused or delayed certification in recent years.

“I think we are going to see mass refusals to certify the election” in November, says Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias. “Everything we are seeing about this election is that the other side is more organized, more ruthless, and more prepared.”

[bold]Kamala Harris Wipes Out Trump’s Swing-State Lead[/bold]

“Kamala Harris has wiped out Donald Trump’s lead across seven battleground states, as the vice president rides a wave of enthusiasm among young, Black and Hispanic voters,” according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.

“Harris was backed by 48% of voters to 47% for Trump — a statistical dead heat — in the swing states that will likely decide November’s election. That’s a stronger showing than the two-point deficit for President Joe Biden before he dropped out of the race. The Democratic vice president overtook her GOP rival in Arizona and Nevada, and more than doubled Biden’s lead over Trump in Michigan.”

“The numbers suggest Harris has a shot at reassembling the voter coalition that propelled President Barack Obama to the White House — and a clearer path to victory than Biden, who’d struggled to galvanize the Democratic base.”

Billionaires from all countries

Russia/China/Iran/Saudi (a supposed ally)

Corporate Media

Notice I didn’t add Republicans. It is because the groups above are driving their fuckery. Without the help, Republicans wouldn’t have the power to do what they are doing and want to do. IMO

Our democracy is under assault from all over. I never thought I’d see the day we may actually lose it and lost it fast. It is all out in the open (this is where the media is complicit).

We will need heroes to come forward and come forward fast and in droves. I’ve said I do believe in the end the media will come out and put their thumb on the scale for Harris. I think some of our billionaires will step up. I think some military leaders will step up. I think many are waiting until closer to the election. I think we may see a blitz of pro-democracy/pro-Harris after Labor Day.

by Anonymousreply 93July 31, 2024 12:04 AM

I've already noticed a change at some places. Until a couple of weeks ago, reading The Atlantic's online articles, one would think that Trump and his handlers are these strategic geniuses, 7 out of roughly 10 articles they publish per day were something negative about Biden or the Democrats, and even after he stepped down, there were still articles vaguely critical or, at best, doubtful of Harris. But, now, all political articles are about the awfulness of JD Vance, the dangers of Project 2025, etc, or very positive about Kamala. Today, for example, they published an interesting article on the origins of the Federalist Society (Horowitz Report) and how it infiltrated the judicial system. NYT, though, still seems to continue to play its "both sides" game.

CBP officers in Arizona seize more than half a ton of fentanyl in largest seizure in agency history TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Lukeville recently seized approximately 4 million blue fentanyl pills -- weighing more than 1,000 pounds -- in the largest singular fentanyl seizure in CBP history.

“This is the largest fentanyl seizure in CBP’s history, and reflects our unwavering determination to protect our nation and to disrupt the criminal activities of ruthless drug cartels,” said Troy Miller, CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner. “Every day, CBP officers and agents are on our front line, using their keen instincts and the latest technology to prevent deadly drugs from entering our country and poisoning our communities.”

On July 1, a 20-year-old Arizona man, [bold] who is a U.S. citizen,[/bold] arrived at the [bold] Port of Lukeville [/bold] driving a 2011 pick-up truck which was hauling a sport recreational vehicle on a utility trailer. CBP officers performing the inspection for entry to the U.S. sent the driver and vehicles aside for a more intensive inspection.

While conducting a thorough inspection of the pick-up truck, trailer, and sport utility vehicle, CBP officers noticed anomalies throughout the frame of the trailer. With the assistance of a CBP canine team, officers discovered 234 packages of drugs concealed within the frame of a trailer. The packages contained approximately 4 million blue fentanyl pills, which is the largest fentanyl seizure in CBP history.

[bold]How an Elon Musk PAC is using voter data to help Trump beat Harris in 2024 election[/bold]

If a voter in Michigan performs a search on Google, a somewhat shocking ad might pop up.

The ad shows a young man lying in bed late at night when someone else texts him, “Hey you need to vote,” and then sends the man a video of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The man can hear the gunshots and people screaming in the background.

As Trump is rushed off stage with blood pouring down his face, the man watching the video types in response, “This is out of control. How do I start?”

The ad then displays a website for a group called America PAC.

The website says it will help the viewer register to vote. But once a user clicks “Register to Vote,” the experience he or she will have can be very different, depending on where they live.

If a user lives in a state that is not considered competitive in the presidential election, like California or Wyoming for example, they’ll be prompted to enter their email addresses and zip code and then directed quickly to a voter registration page for their state, or back to the original sign up section.

But for users who enter a zip code that indicates they live in a battleground state, like Pennsylvania or Georgia, the process is very different.

Rather than be directed to their state’s voter registration page, they instead are directed to a highly detailed personal information form, prompted to enter their address, cell phone number, and age.

If they agree to submit all that, the system still does not steer them to a voter registration page. Instead, it shows them a “thank you” page.

So that person who wanted help registering to vote? In the end, they got no help at all registering. But they did hand over priceless personal data to a political operation.

Specifically, a political action committee created by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one aimed at giving the Republican presidential nominee Trump an advantage in his campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris, the de facto Democratic nominee...

[bold]Harris makes history as first Black woman, Asian American presidential nominee[/bold]

WASHINGTON - The party votes have been cast: Vice President Kamala Harris is officially the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee — making U.S. history as the first Black woman and first Asian American from a major party to win that designation.

Harris secured the Democratic nomination on Friday afternoon, receiving the majority of votes — at least 2,530 — from her party's delegates, just one day after voting opened. The Democratic National Committee held a livestream video hosted by Biden campaign aides and DNC chairman Jaime Harrison to mark the occasion.

"I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States," Harris said moments after she passed the delegate threshold during a Democratic party-sponsored livestream phone call. "Your dedication cannot be overstated. Your dedication to our country. I know we all feel this way so strongly. We love our country, we believe in the promise of America, and that's what this campaign is about."

Harris said she will officially accept the nomination next week, once the virtual voting period concludes on Monday. She added that she's looking forward to the Democratic National Convention that begins Aug. 19 in Chicago to "have an opportunity to celebrate this historic moment together."

Harris, 59, catapulted to the top of the ticket after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election on July 21. Harris will go on to face Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, the 45th president, in November.

Vice President Harris quickly gained the backing of top leaders in her party, including Biden, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She's also been raking in record-breaking donations less than two weeks into her candidacy.

The DNC began a virtual roll call on Thursday at 9 a.m. for delegates to vote for Harris as the party’s candidate. Delegates still have until the deadline on Monday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. ET to return their ballots.

“I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of the Democratic Party,” Harrison said during the livestream.

He added: “Today, my friends, is special because we can proudly say that we will have the first woman of color at the top of a major party ticket.” ...

Retailers Locked Up Their Products—and Broke Shopping in America

CVS, Target and other chains have barricaded everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies. It’s backfired in almost every way.
In retailers’ eyes it might be their best option, but it’s one that appears to be backfiring. Neil Saunders, managing director of the retail practice at the firm GlobalData, describes the locking up of merch as “a blunt instrument.” Several years into this experiment, the instrument’s outcomes are becoming clear: miserable workers, irritated customers, abandoned shopping carts and more reasons than ever to shop online. The modern American store is designed around self-service, which encourages customers to buy more. If you can’t just grab most of the things you want, the brick-and-mortar retail system as we know it stops working.

[...]
A recent police raid on a warehouse outside Los Angeles turned up millions of dollars in stolen merchandise that law enforcement said they suspected was headed for resale, but they alleged that it had all been stolen in transit, not from retail sales floors. This has always been the preferred operational method of large, sophisticated theft rings (See: Goodfellas and The Sopranos), because stealing from tractor trailers or warehouses yields large quantities of brand-new goods that are packaged for efficient transport, storage and resale. In fact, according to the cargo security firm CargoNet, this type of theft has recently soared—in the first quarter of 2024, 46% more incidents were reported than in the same period in 2023.

[...]
But retailers have already backed themselves too far into a corner for them to admit defeat. Retrofitting so many stores with lockup systems is time-consuming and expensive. Stores have sunk too much effort and money into safeguarding their shelves to fling them open now. Maybe next they’ll mess around with high-tech gadgetry, like RFID tags or facial recognition software. But perhaps a better solution is also the most obvious one: staffing up. It’s workers who make stores pleasant, orderly, convenient places to shop, and attracting more of them and keeping them around would probably require retailers to also raise wages and improve working conditions. To make these stores work again, retailers are going to have to find some way not to treat everyone as if they’re the next thief.

This is going to sound really conspiratorial, but I will toss it out there as food for thought. Take it or ignore it.

I think this whole “dump Biden” thing was started by unsavory characters employed by assholes to sow division. It got amplified and picked up. His debate performance made it worse.

The media, the trolls on line, proxies and others have been mercilessly pushing the “Biden is too old” for a while. Dump built his entire campaign around it.

The plan was to push Biden out, then scream for an open convention. As a few fools here have been doing. I DON’T CARE open convention troll. The whole idea was to foment chaos, make the Dems look in disarray so the media could shriek and clutch their pearls, thus generating clicks while ignoring the threat from the thugs.

But wily old Joe pulled his own fucking coup and said, “Kamala! You’re up!” Which took all of the wind out of their sails.

Then the party big wigs said, “oh, let’s wait and see” but WE didn’t fucking wait! Every last fucking group - spearheaded by the black ladies -stood up to be counted and said, “FUCK YEAH! We’re all in on Kamala!”

Money came pouring in as if from a burst dam and then the DNC could no longer deny it is Kamala.

The hoped for brokered convention did not materialize. There WAS no hoped for chaos. As a matter of fact, we came together instantaneously, like some sort of chemical reaction.

People are still trying to stir shit, and they will continue to try right through next year. Ignore them. Stay the course. We know what we gave to do. Stick together. We’ve been here before, we know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 138August 3, 2024 12:07 AM

I'm going to toss THIS out there. There was no huge conspiracy. There was no wheels-within-wheels, double plus ungood, powers that be who for totally crazy reasons just couldn't stand the idea that awesome Joe Biden was clearly going to have a phenomenal victory in November.

Instead, some rather powerful, influential people saw after the debate that this doddering old man was simply not up to the task of winning the election this year. And they decided that even though it was a pretty dramatic move, he really just had to step aside or lose everything. They looked at his performance, they looked at the polling, they looked at the state of the Democratic Party and decided, this shit is fucked if we don't do something drastic really, really soon.

Anyway, that's my thought.

And also too, I suspect they are all totally fine with the fact that Kamala wrapped it up so quickly and easily. Totally.

by Anonymousreply 139August 3, 2024 12:21 AM

R140 It was a huge conspiracy out in the open. The media relentlessly beat up on Biden for weeks, while totally ignoring all of DT’s insanity, his slurring, his doddering, his clear mental decline, his Project 2025. The media absolutely put their thumb on the scale against Pres Biden. He had many appearances after the debate (in which DT looked bad, too) but the media just pounded on Pres Biden creating tunnel vision. Democrats freaked out. Dukakis had a 17 point lead on GHW Bush in summer of ‘88. Bush went on to win in a landslide and he was not a good campaigner at all.

It’s done. We’re all behind Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 140August 3, 2024 1:27 AM

Oy with the paranoid tinhattery. I love Uncle Joe, but within two minutes of the debate starting I knew he needed to give up running for another term because I am not blind, deaf and in a cult. Sometimes people of a certain age experience quick onset physical or mental decline. It isn’t a conspiracy. President Biden’s primary concern should be keeping himself well for this term.

And reference to the Lugenpresse is a real turnoff whomever it is coming from. As I said to the RNC committee poll dipshit, repeating Nazi talking points is a real turn off.

Also Kamala is 🔥 . She’s going to choose a great VP candidate. Uncle Joe will go down in history as a hero and may Trump die in jail.

[bold]‘I’m trying to make it’: Jimmy Carter’s goal is to vote for Kamala Harris[/bold]

Nearing his 100th birthday and in hospice care since February 2023, the former president Jimmy Carter reportedly has one goal: voting for Kamala Harris against Donald Trump.

“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” Carter told his son Chip this week, as his grandson Jason Carter recounted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Harris, Carter’s fellow Democrat, will face the Republican Trump for the presidency on 5 November. Carter’s 100th birthday will fall on 1 October.

A Democrat who was in the White House from 1977 to 1981, Carter is the oldest living president. In ill health for several years, his family announced that he entered hospice care on 18 February 2023. Many took that announcement to mean Carter was near the end of his life.

And the next month, the current president, Joe Biden, said he had been asked to deliver Carter’s eulogy. Biden also said Carter’s doctors had “found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they found a breakthrough”.

In October 2023, as the White House celebrated Carter’s 99th birthday, the former Democratic National Committee chairperson Donna Brazile said the former Georgia governor was “a towering, old southern oak … as good as they come and tough as they come”.

The following month, Carter’s wife, Rosalynn Carter, died aged 96. The couple, who campaigned for human rights and mental health reform, were married for 77 years, through Jimmy Carter’s time in the US navy, in Georgia state politics, in the White House and in a post-presidency widely regarded as one of the most productive.

In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel peace prize, “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development”.

In 2021, he told the Associated Press the secret to a long life was “to marry the right person”...

Dana Bash, CNN, delivering softball questions to JD Vance, is nauseating. This is what’s wrong with the new media.

by Anonymousreply 199August 11, 2024 2:24 PM

No, this is what's wrong with right wingers like David Zaslav acquiring major media outlets.

by Anonymousreply 200August 11, 2024 2:28 PM

Zaslav is not delivering to shareholders. If political ideology can exclude eligibility for media acquisitions, right or left, that’s way more dangerous. Then, there is zero choice and the far right will have a total monopoly.

The executives hire the anchors, and the anchors embrace the company line. If it conflicts with their values, they can choose to work elsewhere.

b) Texas flip for Harris?

It's too bad what Paxton is trying to do in TX - Trumpsters know they need to stop minorities from voting in order to win

by Anonymousreply 279August 28, 2024 12:10 AM

R278 Allred is running the worst campaign. Cruz is very vulnerable, but I don’t think he can do it. There’s video circulation of AG Corrupt SOB Ken Paxton saying Pres Biden won TX, but he (illegally) kept 2.5 million ballots from being processed. TX IS in play, but Republicans will steal it. Google “cell phones capture votes flipping from Beto to Cruz” and you’ll know that was stolen as well. Republicans are crying about stolen elections because they are the ones who actually steal elections (2000, 2004, 2016). Karl Rove said if the election is very close it is “easy” to steal it.

R348 Could it also be because Hunter assumes his father will pardon him? At this point, is there any reason Joe wouldn't??

by Anonymousreply 350September 5, 2024 11:18 PM

Joe absolutely should pardon Hunter. The whole case and the bitter prosecution of it is a complete joke and miscarriage of justice. This is actually what the presidential pardon was invented for: to prevent idiocy by the judicial and prosecutorial arms of government.

by Anonymousreply 351September 5, 2024 11:25 PM

They need to stop, stop, stop interviewing “undecided” voters. My god it is the most mind numbing experience. One woman, an older elementary teacher, said she was undecided due to the negativity and wasn’t sure if she would vote for president. Excuse me? I was rendered speechless. After the debate, she was still undecided. The rest of them were as bad for different reasons.

I wonder if more people are lead poisoned than we know of.

by Anonymousreply 381September 11, 2024 10:25 PM

I get the feeling some "undecided" voters (especially this late in the game) are just attention whores or they want to vote for Trump but are ashamed to admit it.

by Anonymousreply 382September 11, 2024 11:33 PM

^ I've always assumed the "undecided" voters on these Fox and CNN panels are people who know damn well who they're voting for or won't vote at all and just want to be on TV

by Anonymousreply 383September 11, 2024 11:37 PM

Undecided = closeted Trump supporters. Used by the media (CNN, Fox, Newsmax, etc.) to later show how they have been convinced to vote for Trump after a debate or convention. To make it look legitimate, a few will say they are leaning toward, or will vote for, the Democrat. Those focus groups are staged crap.

The media agenda: a horse race with Trump ultimately receiving an electoral college edge.

by Anonymousreply 384September 12, 2024 9:24 AM

R384 What’s scary is how the census in ‘20 gave Republicans more of an electoral advantage. After the 2030 census they are expected to have an overwhelming advantage. Democrats would have to run the table to have a chance to win. TX will have almost as many EV as CA, with FL not far behind. TX would have to become a reliable Blue state which would then give Dems an advantage.

"Some conservatives wanted to delay a decision until after November's presidential election. But Roberts demanded an early decision and then insisted on writing the opinion himself.

'In a case like this one, focusing on ‘transient results’ may have profound consequences for the separation of powers and for the future of our Republic,' he wrote loftily. 'Our perspective must be more farsighted.'

The decision was a hammer blow to judicial attempts at prosecuting the former president.

And Roberts failed to secure the unanimity he was demanding, prompting a scathing dissent from liberal justice Sonia Sotomayor lamenting that the judgment had given Trump 'all the immunity he asked for and more'."

[bold] 13 things jumped out to me on Trump’s attempt to defraud the American people and steal the 2020 election. [/bold]
1. The evidence presented in Jack Smith’s filing all comes from Trump insiders under oath.
2) Before election day, Trump told campaign insiders that he would declare victory regardless of the results.
3) By November 13th, Trump knew he had no evidence of election fraud and had the lost legal challenges that could allow him to win the election.
4) Lawyers and campaign insiders repeatedly told Trump that his claims of election fraud were untrue, were “bullshit,” and they would be slaughtered in court. Trump responded, “The details don’t matter.”
5) Mike Pence was loyal up to the end. Pence repeatedly tried to talk Trump down and accept defeat as “an intermission” and advised that Trump could run again in 2024.
6) Trump “personally set the fake electors plan in motion in early December, ensured it was carried out by co-conspirators and campaign agents in the targeted states, and monitored its progress.”
7) Many fake electors in the fake elector plot were conned. Alternate electors were told that they would only be used if Trump prevailed in legal cases, and when others figured out what they were doing was illegal, they were replaced.
8) Pence repeatedly refused to go along with the fake electors’ scheme. On January 1st, Trump told Pence: “Hundreds of thousands of people are going to hate your guts… You’re too honest.”
9) As Trump’s pressure campaign on Pence ramped up, Pence kept notes. At one point, having 5 pages of contemporaneous notes from a meeting of all the batshit crazy stuff
10) Trump knew Pence had refused repeatedly to go along with the fake electors’ scheme when Trump issued a public statement on January 5th—a lie giving false hopes to supporters attending the rally on January 6th: “The Vice President and I are of total agreement that the Vice President has the power to act…”
11) When Trump spoke at the Ellipse on January 6th, he knew Pence wouldn’t throw out the legally certified electors. ... Trump lied to the crowd
12) Trump watched the mob attack the Capitol on TV.
Even after the attack, when Trump learned that certification would still proceed later that night, around 7PM, Trump directed REDACTED to make phone calls to Republican Senators to try to stop certification. Jack Smith has voicemails of those messages.
13) It’s still shocking how close America came to losing our democracy on January 6th, 2024. Trump’s coup nearly succeeded.

I am of the mind that Pelosi was the one who kept shit together during The Terror. But I don’t think she’s perfect. She’s a little too reluctant to break her foot off in deserving asses and stick a shiv in someone when it’s so desperately necessary.

So she has her faults. But this is a discussion about the traitor.

(R448) FCI. The problem after the election is gonna be less about Trump (who I predict will lose by a landslide in votes) and more about the people running his campaign and lawsuits that are already being filed contesting the results. Which means our fate lies in the hands of the Supreme Court, 5 of which we absolutely know are absolutely corrupt.

Do you hear anything on how this will be dealt with? Executive orders, perhaps? Impeachment?

Don Jr. doxed a guy named Kevin Gallagher and threatened his employer's government contracts
On Sept. 27, Donald Trump Jr. exposed the employee’s name and photograph to millions of people on social media, writing, “Maybe it’s time for the GOP to end Deloitte’s taxpayer funded gravy train?” Others — including Vance’s chief spokesman and a Republican senator — circulated Trump Jr.’s comments, and the conservative website Breitbart published a story naming the man and highlighting his job.
Deloitte receives about $3 billion annually from federal agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense.
Ethics experts said the episode is a potentially ominous preview of how a second Trump administration might use the enormous power the federal government wields over private industry to punish political acts by individual workers. Although federal contracting laws prohibit cutting off a business because of its workers’ private political views, such threats could have a chilling effect, they said.

by Anonymousreply 484October 9, 2024 10:18 PM

I wake up every day hoping we were in some crazy nightmare, but we’re not. The criminality, the depravity, the total collapse of the Republican Party is stunning. There are days I start to post a comment in this thread, but words fail me. I don’t think this election will be close in the end, but the fact even many normie R voters are willing to put this depraved criminal rapist in the most powerful position in the world leaves me sick. Every day it’s some new, in-normal-times career ending scandal with that orange demon only to be met with “ehhh” from the media and tens of millions.

Seeing R484 and of course he has dirt on Bret, and the others, and had the FBI sit on critical, likely damning evidence, of a SC nom is sigh.

We better ensure Kamala gets the presidency and Dems get the Senate because if not, none of her people will get confirmed especially her judges.

It’s just a GD nightmare. I hate the Right with a passion. Reagan and his people were the worst things to ever happen to this country.

by Anonymousreply 489October 9, 2024 11:13 PM

Back in 2016, with everything I already knew about Trump, if somebody were to ask me "Hey, do you think this Trump guy would secretly give intel to Vladimir Putin, knowingly commit Treason, just to further his own interests?" Without a thought, I would respond, "Yes, absolutely! That's the kind of person he is."

I always believed this about Trump, so any "bombshell" tidbit released about him is never of any shock or surprise to me. It never was!

What I'm continually flustered by is....How does he continue to get away with it all? How is it that nobody ever stops him or says anything until it's way past expiration dates????

R49 Great question.

I believe, in no particular order:

1) The compliant, corporate, for profit media

2) Billionaires

3) Cowardly, weak Republican electeds

I don’t blame the voters so much because they are gaslighted and lied to by people they trust. These people were raised on Republican lies and gaslighting. They were raised to believe Democrats were terrible people who didn’t share their values of love of military, Constitution, family, patriotism.

by Anonymousreply 494October 10, 2024 12:04 AM

If Trump wins I blame two men...

Biden & MAGA Merrick Garland

Trump could/should have been prosecuted years ago.

by Anonymousreply 495October 10, 2024 12:23 AM

R495. Merrick Garland is indeed responsible for Trump being sustained. He deliberately suppressed collecting evidence, and acting on it. He delayed, postponed, and gave a pass to all major GQP politicians and other politically connected bigwigs, such as Ginni Thomas, who were involved in planning and implementing the insurrection.

Biden’s failure is not firing Garland his first year in office.

by Anonymousreply 496October 10, 2024 12:52 AM

R494 I go back and forth, Doris.

by Anonymousreply 497October 10, 2024 12:58 AM

Watch your mouth.

Both men wanted a drop dead, no questions asked case against him. Biden undoubtedly wanted a high bar because he couldn’t stomach the idea that future Presidents, stretching the normal limits of their power, would subject them to prosecution. Garland, because you only get so many shots at the former “king.” (The Supreme Court had not yet declared the Prez as virtually immune.)

It was only after Congress primed the pump, so to speak, that lots of others saw the water was safe and more dirt began to flow into DoJ. Combined with what Congress unearthed, they have a lot. Witness Smith’s recent augmented filing.

by Anonymousreply 498October 10, 2024 1:00 AM

I believe I read it's mentioned in Woodward's book that Biden regretted selecting Garland.

What I also believe, (and FCI, please correct me if I'm wrong), is Biden didn't have much choice. With the mostly Republican Senate, he wouldn't have been able to get in a Sally Yates or even Kamala (who would have made a far better AG).

Kamala, herself, is gonna have the same problem unless we get a greater majority in the Senate as well. Once she wins, if Repubs take bake the Senate, we're gonna be stuck with Garland for a long fucking time!!

by Anonymousreply 499October 10, 2024 1:00 AM

Well, Joe regrets it for what it's worth.

by Anonymousreply 500October 10, 2024 1:00 AM
I don’t blame the voters so much because they are gaslighted and lied to by people they trust.

They want to be lied to and want to trust liars. Unfortunately, that is the underlying problem. People are assholes because they actually enjoy being assholes. We can pretend it's all manipulation, but deep down, it is the Magats themselves who are the problem. And they are going to be a bigger problem than Trump himself.

by Anonymousreply 501October 10, 2024 1:04 AM

I agree that Yates might have been better (but you’ll never know what ammo she wouldn’t have had if she went in immediately).

by Anonymousreply 502October 10, 2024 1:04 AM

R502 No question Sally Yates would have been better. The guy who fixes my toilet would have done a better job, (and it wasn't Matthew Whitaker!). But could Biden have gotten his Senate to agree to her? I don't think so.

Merrick Garland was the compromise. And turns out, he was compromised!!!

by Anonymousreply 503October 10, 2024 1:13 AM

R499 I read into it as yes, Biden likely couldn’t get another AG in with Manchin/Sinema. Though, if Garland resigned, he could appoint an acting AG. Perhaps Garland refused?

R501 I despise them, but they’ve been gaslighted and lied to their entire lives. They’re shells of people now. It is like watching zombies. That’s not hyperbole. Some know better, of course. Many do. Still, I blame those three groups the most. Without their fuckery, we’d be nowhere near the cliff like we are now.

by Anonymousreply 504October 10, 2024 1:13 AM

Because every rethug is terrified to join with Dems and end the terror, r490.

They’re afraid of losing their seats, money and safety. If the cowardly thugs actually stood up to pussy neck with the Democrats to hold him accountable, the maggots would unleash hell upon them.

The death threats against them and their families from the domestic terror groups aka “militias”, the on line attacks by Putin’s trolls and the loss of their seats in Congress to crazier cunts is why.

They stand up against the traitor, they lose. They’re compromised cowards.

by Anonymousreply 505October 10, 2024 1:57 AM

Ungerrymander these insane Republican districts and maga loses all power. But, even “normie” Republicans are too extreme on most issues. They have zero good economic policies. Their policies are all extreme “let business fuck you 9 ways to Sunday and you better love it”. Socially, they are way too far right of the country. They don’t want competitive districts because they’d have to come more to the center on economic policy which the billionaires don’t want.

by Anonymousreply 506October 10, 2024 2:04 AM

Okay, so, here's another question: Why do I always hear Democratic politicians - (ones I respect!) say stuff on MSNBC like "It's so important to have a 2-party system".

Why? The Republicans seem to think they don't need us. Why do we need them? THEY fucked the Electoral College. THEY instituted The (UN)Fairness Doctrine. THEY're the ones now responsible for women dying of pregnancy by outlawing abortion. (Oh yeah, and they're the ones who have stolen elections).

So why do we need them? (Adam Schiff? Jamie Raskin? Eric Swalwell? If any of you men are reading this, please explain what you meant by that statement I heard you make).

Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 507October 10, 2024 3:01 AM

We don't need them, specifically r507. I agree. It is true that one-party rule turns lazy and corrupt and ultimately fucked up, as happens in cities and towns and entire states at times. So I can see why people generally want two parties contending for power. But the idea that it has to be this Democratic Party and this Republican Party is complete bullshit. We have had big parties die a number of times in this country. And it is long past time for this iteration of the Republican Party to die. Long past. It is absolutely useless. It has nothing to offer this country but fucked up nonsense and whoring for the rich, with a side of gun nut bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 508October 10, 2024 3:12 AM

You are asking why competition protects against tyranny, corruption and the bad decisions inherent in groupthink R507? You can’t figure that out for yourself?

by Anonymousreply 509October 10, 2024 12:48 PM

There’s no rule that those have to be specific parties. Neither major party existed when this country was founded. Both will someday end

One of them sooner than the other, apparently

by Anonymousreply 510October 10, 2024 1:50 PM

r508 and yet the Republicans were in minority for the 50 years before Reagan.

Perhaps the most corrupt Senator, appalling Granny Marsha Blackburn, votes against any FEMA funding, then complains falsely about FEMA not delivering on hurricane relief.
People keep voting for politicians who want to disempower the federal government. Sens. Blackburn and Hagerty and Reps. Tim Burchett, Andy Ogles and John Rose all voted against extending funding to FEMA in the very same week a hurricane was barreling down on Tennessee. And now they have the gall to be all, “Where’s the federal government? Why is FEMA money going to immigrants?” They voted against FEMA money going to anyone. If any of these rumors of the feds not showing up are true, this is exactly what these folks voted for. This is what they want: for the feds not to show up. And this is what their voters want, and we know that because they vote for them.
In its essence, the book is standard conservative political propaganda — an anecdote-driven, broad-brush attack on legislators trying to solve contemporary social problems and on the executive branch officials trying to enforce the country’s laws.

The controlling majority of TUSSC are fascists, MAGA-style mixed with their Opus Dei ideological cultism.

The Noem fiasco was Trump listening to his handlers ... PLEASE SAY AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.

And he stood there and DJ'd the Hail Mary.

R559 - where are the others involved? He can't be the sole person. But it's good to see Republican assholes crying AND getting prison time.

Just hope he goes to a regular prison - not one of those 'nice' ones.

Kamala is being interviewed by Brett Baier on FAKE News tomorrow. PLEASE Kamala, find a way to not only mention, but discuss in detail the Dominion lawsuit where Fox had to pay out almost $900 million dollars for reporting lies about the 2020 election. It might be the first time Fox viewers hear about it.

by Anonymousreply 564October 15, 2024 8:07 PM

Ask Brett Baier why Fox viewers know more about Hunter Biden's penis size than they do about the multiple indictments against their cult leader, Trump.

Using the term "angertainment" to describe Ted's politics is brilliant.

But that smile at the end should be enough alone to win the election

R569's clip

Ted Cruz. Mark Levin. Mitch McConnell

Is this a contest of which is the most disgustingly vile?? Should we start a DL Poll???

If I had to choose which one to kill, and I could only choose one, I'd probably kill myself because the choices are just too overwhelming!!!
