My main issue with having to fund education through my state taxes is that my GOP-run state has approved $14,000 per year, per child “opportunity vouchers” for parents who want to pull their children out public school and pay for them to go to private schools, many of which are nothing but racially homogeneous, religious institutions which aren’t required to prove they are actually providing a quality education. They call them “opportunity vouchers” to make them seem like aid for poor families, but the real opportunity of for the wealthy to get a backdoor tax break because they aren’t means tested. You get $14,000 a year per child even if you’re in Elon Musk’s tax bracket.
