I hate the sun

I hate its relentless heat. Its blinding brightness. I hate the sun.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 2July 22, 2024 1:17 PM

It's wonderful in the winter.

by Anonymousreply 3July 22, 2024 1:20 PM

I hate spring.

by Anonymousreply 4July 22, 2024 1:21 PM

Same, I only like it in late autumn and early spring when it's weak.

Somewhat related, but did you know that retinol above the 0.3% concentration was banned in the EU last year because Dutch people couldn't be arsed to put on sunscreen after using it? They think they don't need sunscreen when the sky is overcast over there, and their skin cancer rates shot up through the roof. So now the whole union is being punished for their foolishness, and my skin will never look as good again.

by Anonymousreply 5July 22, 2024 1:24 PM

In the sun all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

by Anonymousreply 6July 22, 2024 1:41 PM

Cloudy days are relaxing. The sun hurts my eyes and gives me headaches.

by Anonymousreply 7July 22, 2024 1:51 PM

Same op. I’m a bit allergic to it also. Don’t fret the sun is going down earlier every night

by Anonymousreply 8July 22, 2024 1:57 PM

Nice lyrics, op. Is this the beginning of a new song by you?

by Anonymousreply 9July 22, 2024 3:11 PM

I hate the moon.

by Anonymousreply 10July 22, 2024 3:13 PM

Without it, you would be dead.

by Anonymousreply 11July 22, 2024 3:43 PM

Yes, r11. But eventually it’s going to destroy the entire planet. Insatiable top.

by Anonymousreply 12July 22, 2024 3:47 PM

It's a mixed blessing.

We need trees. Trees cool the ground, they eat carbon dioxide, they emit oxygen. They provide fruits and nuts. They give us pine straw and leaf litter which enrich soil with compost. They are what children used to climb on and swing from before there were video games. They are a renewable source of energy and building technology, but they must be renewed by replanting and regrowth.

I think that I shall never see a used car lot, or a fast food drive-thru as lovely as a tree.

by Anonymousreply 18July 22, 2024 4:31 PM

I detest it too

by Anonymousreply 19July 22, 2024 4:33 PM

Golly, the shun?

by Anonymousreply 20July 22, 2024 4:38 PM

I hate you, OP

by Anonymousreply 21July 22, 2024 4:40 PM

I’m not surprised that an ugly shut in hates the sun

by Anonymousreply 23July 22, 2024 6:29 PM

I WANT THE SUN!

by Anonymousreply 24July 22, 2024 7:04 PM

Interesting. I want to soak up the sun.

by Anonymousreply 25July 22, 2024 7:27 PM

Here come da SUN, mothafukka.

by Anonymousreply 26July 22, 2024 7:34 PM

Who loves the sun Who cares that it makes plants grow Who cares what it does Since you broke my heart

by Anonymousreply 27July 22, 2024 7:36 PM

I sweat from May to October. Just anything I do, my shirt is is soaked. I think it's my Scandinavian DNA.

by Anonymousreply 28July 22, 2024 7:36 PM

OP, rain depresses me beyond belief. I could never live in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 29July 22, 2024 7:37 PM

This woman I work for every so often says she hates the sun. Odd since she moved to LA for the weather. But then she's Debbie Downer, everything and everyone sucks in her mind and she loves gloomy days. Just like her personality most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 33July 22, 2024 8:36 PM

I visited Norway a couple of weeks ago and got to see the midnight sun. It was the coolest thing, waking up at 3.am and seeing the sun still shining.

I have a preference for evenings, nights, and overcast days; my diabetes and its medications have accentuated photosensitivity in me. These days, especially during the summer, I frequently nap during the hottest, brightest part of the afternoon.

by Anonymousreply 37July 22, 2024 10:12 PM

The sun is from where all blessings flow on this planet. Fossil fuels are just stored sunshine. But we know now we can use the sun to make useful energy directly without burning anything -- wind and solar power.

I have used my solar laundry dryer (my clothesline) since 2008.

With my heat pump I heat my home with free heat put into the atmosphere everyday by the sun.

Yep, the sun is my buddy.

by Anonymousreply 38July 22, 2024 10:26 PM

R38, do you have a lot of bumper stickers on your car?

by Anonymousreply 39July 22, 2024 10:35 PM

I think you mean his very old Volvo, R39

by Anonymousreply 40July 22, 2024 10:45 PM

^^ Nope, none

by Anonymousreply 41July 22, 2024 11:01 PM

But it is a Subaru isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 42July 22, 2024 11:34 PM

I do like the winter or autumn sun but in the summer it pisses me off

by Anonymousreply 43July 22, 2024 11:39 PM

Nope.

by Anonymousreply 44July 22, 2024 11:39 PM

I don’t hate the sun, but I hate sitting under it. It’s uncomfortable. I like winter; I keep better.

by Anonymousreply 45July 23, 2024 1:36 AM

Dutchie, you sound like a writer for Star Wars.

"I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere."

by Anonymousreply 46July 23, 2024 1:42 AM

I like Blue!

I like Turtles

by Anonymousreply 47July 23, 2024 2:16 AM

I like the sun -- all you really need is hard-core sunscreen, a baseball cap, and UV-blocking clothing, and you're good to go.

But then again, I live in Florida.

by Anonymousreply 48July 23, 2024 2:22 AM

Who are all of you?

by Anonymousreply 49July 23, 2024 2:29 AM

OP -- I hate the sun, too. I love rain and thunderstorms. Especially the weather right before a hurricane hits: the light is so peculiar, the wind picks up, and the air smells like water.

Here's something for you -- Midnight Sun, a Twilight Zone episode

While I do love that Twilight Zone episode, at the end (spoiler alert!), it's the cold that kills them.

by Anonymousreply 51July 23, 2024 2:32 AM

This sun, the one that toys with Earth, is really a lower tier one.

It can't hang with the Big Girls:

Mu Cephi - about 1500 times the size of our sun. Betelgeuse - about 900 times the size of our sun. Antares - about 530 times the size of our sun.

by Anonymousreply 54July 23, 2024 2:52 AM

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me

by Anonymousreply 55July 23, 2024 3:06 AM

I love the different shiftings of sunlight during the seasons and during the seasons. However, a gloomy, rainy day has its own special charm. When it is sunny in the summer, I feel like I should be outside doing something. It depresses me after a few days.

I remember one summer in New York City in the early 90s when it was cloudy and/or rained every fucking weekend for the whole fucking summer. Monday - Friday would be gorgeous when I was stuck in an office. Come Saturday morning, the clouds would return and stay all weekend. Never got to the beach once that year.

by Anonymousreply 56July 23, 2024 3:12 AM

I can't stand the rain.

If it wasn’t for the sun, what would we all tan our balls with?

by Anonymousreply 60July 23, 2024 4:53 AM

I don't like the morning sun with its promise of a boiling hot day. I do like the late afternoon sun, signaling the end of the day and that hopefully things will cool off.

by Anonymousreply 61July 23, 2024 4:53 AM

Gee, it's kind of important. Does a lot of good things. Vitamin D is good. Photosynthesis is good. Warmth. Light. Light is good. We need it to revolve around. It's why we can see the moon.

by Anonymousreply 62July 23, 2024 5:34 AM

I hate stars who act as if everything revolves around them.

by Anonymousreply 63July 23, 2024 6:17 AM

The heat does make people stupid…

by Anonymousreply 64July 23, 2024 6:58 AM

I have very light colored eyes and bright sunlight makes me sneeze when it hits them.

Has anyone else experienced this?

by Anonymousreply 65July 23, 2024 7:04 AM

That’s the photic sneeze reflex, R65. I always assumed everyone sneezed when they looked at bright light, but apparently it’s just 18-35% of us!

Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way about El Sol.

I do like the sun in early Spring, and definitely in Autumn and Winter; when it's nice and weak.

Rainy days are the best, I always love it when it rains.

by Anonymousreply 67July 23, 2024 8:33 AM

I think August should be banned.

As well as the first half of September.

Fuck it. Ban July too.

by Anonymousreply 68July 23, 2024 9:38 AM

July 1st thru Aug 10 - we’re almost there, if we can just hold on through the day

by Anonymousreply 69July 23, 2024 11:01 AM

I agree, R68. Winter should be two weeks, max. Summer maybe just four.

by Anonymousreply 70July 23, 2024 1:46 PM

To R57 Why don't you like the rain?

"I can't stand the rain...against my window...bringing back sweet memories."
