I’ll start:

🎵 “Uhuh that’s my shit…” please shoot me

It does not get any worse than this:

R5 The Thong Song is an awful song but Sisqo’s vocal performance saves it. That boy can sang. And it’s catchy as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 9July 22, 2024 12:42 AM

Dang, R8, you beat me to it just as I was about to post. Truly execrable.

by Anonymousreply 10July 22, 2024 12:43 AM

Always hated this piece of shit

When Mariah thought any hip&hop r&b song made her cool. This is pure trash.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 12July 22, 2024 12:44 AM

This is terrible. And ironically they have one of the best songs of the decade with Drops of Jupiter.

When the Queen was a judgmental black Karen. But the vocal arrangement on this hypocritical anthem slaps.

[quote] And ironically they have one of the best songs of the decade with Drops of Jupiter.

It's not ironic. That song is also terrible.

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2024 4:34 PM

Madonna fan but I hate this song. It aged poorly.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2024 4:35 PM

But this is by far her worst single of the decade.

by Anonymousreply 17July 22, 2024 4:35 PM

r13 "one of the best songs of the decade with Drops of Jupiter. "

Oh sweet jesus you must be kidding. WTF.

by Anonymousreply 18July 22, 2024 4:36 PM

I disagree. Music still holds up. But not only that it’s slickly produced with grounded and clever lyrics. It’s Madge’s best dance song since the 80s. Ray of Light, Like a Prayer, and Material Girl are her best songs ever.

I could easily see Doja Cat doing a song like Music today.

by Anonymousreply 19July 22, 2024 4:41 PM

When Beyonce whined/screeched out "Irreplaceable" - whoever didn't rework that in a key suitable for her voice deserves to be punished for making us hear this.

by Anonymousreply 20July 22, 2024 4:41 PM

R20 is trolling. Must be.

by Anonymousreply 21July 22, 2024 4:43 PM

[quote] When Mariah thought any hip&hop r&b song made her cool. This is pure trash.

Here is Mariah Carey at her absolute worst, with no fewer than 5 featured artists.

R22 That’s the remix 😝. A lot of people don’t know. Mariah Carey and Da Brat are best friends.

by Anonymousreply 23July 22, 2024 4:47 PM

r21 Absolutely not

by Anonymousreply 24July 22, 2024 4:52 PM

This entire album is a Pandora's Box that keeps on giving, so anything from it could fit this thread. Basically, the horror of 2009 in one aggressively pushed, stupid package.

No Air - Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown

Gives You Hell - All-American Rejects

and let's not forget William Hung's version of She Bangs

R31 what is that site you posted. Is it some type of cyber monitoring?

by Anonymousreply 32July 22, 2024 5:06 PM

No, it's Rate Your Music, pretty standard site on which people rate record collections.

by Anonymousreply 33July 22, 2024 5:08 PM

Oh also Nickelback - Photograph - absolutely horrid

by Anonymousreply 34July 22, 2024 5:09 PM

Solo Gwen Stefani was a crime against humanity.

by Anonymousreply 35July 22, 2024 5:17 PM

The Counting Crows' version of "Big Yellow Taxi" (R30) probably went something like this:

Record label: "Adam, you're ugly, you're not getting any younger, and your band's popularity is fading. The '90s are over. Let's add Vanessa Carlton to the song to boost its popularity."

Adam Duritz: "No! I'm not going to duet with her."

Record label: "Don't worry. She'll just sing 'Ooh, bop, bop, bop.' "

by Anonymousreply 36July 22, 2024 5:24 PM

R35 It truly was with this being the only exception.

Here is Mariah's original version of Loverboy she had to scrap when JLO stole the sample used. It's not amazing but miles better than what Mariah had to release in 2001

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 38July 22, 2024 5:25 PM

R38 Jlos version was much better stolen or not. I really don’t remember. It seems like Jlos album came out first the one with Love don’t coast a thing on it. But ironically they both used remixed version. Mariah reworked the version you posted and the again released a remix version to boost sales. The original of Julia here was not a hit but the I’m Real remix featuring Ja Rule was a huge hit and scored Jlo her 2nd 1 on the Hot 100.

by Anonymousreply 46July 22, 2024 5:44 PM

R46, that song is really fucking terrible. Popular musicians don't do "irony" well. It's almost always used in a lazy way. See: Katy Perry's latest single being "satire".

by Anonymousreply 47July 22, 2024 6:07 PM

r39 You do not use the word "ironically" correctly. Perhaps you are meaning "coincidentally."

by Anonymousreply 48July 22, 2024 7:24 PM

Anything by Nickelback.

by Anonymousreply 49July 22, 2024 7:48 PM

R41 That's not a terrible song. And I'm not even a fan

by Anonymousreply 50July 22, 2024 8:14 PM

r50 Horrid

by Anonymousreply 51July 22, 2024 8:16 PM

R46 Weezer always annoyed me, like there was an inside joke no one else was in on, vs. Cake, who you seemed in on the joke with them.

Also preferred Everclears Santa Monica, judge me as you will.

This hideously tuneless, overproduced monstrosity about absolutely nothing. Rap rock has to be the WORST invention in the history of humanity alongside the atomic and neutron bombs, war and genocide.

by Anonymousreply 53July 23, 2024 9:53 AM

R16 You are out of your collective minds. "Music" by Madonna STILL slaps.

by Anonymousreply 54July 23, 2024 11:30 AM

R54, sorry, but it sounds so cheesy to me. I think Don't Tell Me holds up much better. Hopefully, we can agree that American Life is far worse than either.

by Anonymousreply 55July 23, 2024 12:22 PM

"Music", just like "Ray of Light" (the song) were huge when they were released but she has much better songs on those albums. "Ray Of Light", in particular, has aged pretty badly with all those bleeps, blops, and tacky production. In fact, I'll take any other single off that album and most album tracks over it.

by Anonymousreply 56July 23, 2024 12:28 PM

This horrible pile of shit, performed by Ashanti's voice, Ja Rule and the lip-syncing Wicked Witch of Puerto Rico.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57July 23, 2024 12:38 PM

R56, agreed. And the music video is very dated. Frozen, the song and video, have aged much better.

by Anonymousreply 58July 23, 2024 12:40 PM

I'd forgotten about this one. One of the worst songs I have ever heard. Robbie recently said releasing this was the biggest regret of his career.

What a stupid time for music.

by Anonymousreply 66August 6, 2024 10:18 PM

It really was a terrible time. I was in high school then and I couldn't stand the music from that era. It got better again though.

by Anonymousreply 67August 6, 2024 10:42 PM

R67, I was in high school in the first half of the decade. I actually remember thinking Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga were a much-needed break away from the teen pop shit we were bombarded with.

by Anonymousreply 68August 6, 2024 11:15 PM

Agreed R68. Most people are nostalgic for the music of their teenage years. Not me.

by Anonymousreply 69August 6, 2024 11:59 PM

R69, you and me are alike. When I was a teenager, teen pop, nu metal, Southern hip hop, etc. was what dominated. I hated all of that shit. And I have 0 nostalgia for any of that stuff. "I Want it That Way" makes me cringe. All of that Max Martin stuff is the same. And don't even get me started on Britney Spears. But, then again, I"ve always been way more into older music.
