David Corenswet

Am I the only one who doesn’t think he has the IT factor? He reminds me of Alden Ehrenreich who they tried to make into a thing. I’ve seen David act and he’s always forgettable and he’s missing that certain something. He’s not ugly but looks like too many other people.

by Anonymousreply 111August 4, 2024 7:21 PM

I thought he was pretty memorable in “Pearl”.

by Anonymousreply 1July 20, 2024 7:19 PM

I will always be Superman.

by Anonymousreply 2July 20, 2024 7:26 PM

He’s not particularly charismatic IMO, but he’s a decent actor and hot as fuck, so it’s somewhat excusable.

by Anonymousreply 3July 20, 2024 7:27 PM

He has a very flat ass unlike Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 4July 20, 2024 7:31 PM

But does his ass taste better than Cavill’s?

by Anonymousreply 5July 20, 2024 7:33 PM

Me thinks he's really Purdy.

by Anonymousreply 6July 20, 2024 7:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2024 8:12 PM

Corenswet I feel bad for because his Superman looks absolutely ridiculous. It’s a Haim Saban kiddie show. It has a freaking Green Lantern Squirrel. I know he wanted to play the role very much, but he should have passed.

As far as where he fits into the Hollywood ecosystem:

He actually had a very good opportunity when he was coming up. And that was the fall of Armie Hammer. It would have been extremely easy to shepherd Corenswet into all the roles Hammer could no longer play (handsome rich SOB’s.) The physical resemblance was uncanny.

Unfortunately, David chose to do James Gunn’s Superman.

Why is it unfortunate?

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2024 8:24 PM

I think he's objectively gorgeous, but I also agree that he lacks that ineffable "star quality" and "it" factor.

I don't find McBongo hot, but can see why he hit big. I get why Bradley Cooper hit while Scott Foley and Scott Speedman barely made ripples.

The I Know What’s Best for David Corenswet’s Career Troll is the same sick individual as The Matt Bomer Troll.

Same verbiage. Same psychotic, stalker-like fixation. Same yarn-board conspiracies and pieces of “evidence.” Same obsession for anyone cast as or almost cast in the Superman role.

He’s mentally ill and dangerously overweight. And undoubtedly the recipient of multiple restraining orders.

See you on “Dateline,” sicko.

Now when I saw this ad campaign, I felt really bad because he is dressed exactly the same way Cavill was dressed in behind the scenes promo clips from Man of Steel. And that people would place them next to each other and compare them.

Simply put, this is Superman. He’s not in his costume, he’s not on set, but this is Superman. Anyone from 9 and 90 will see this and know exactly who it is supposed to be.

Eh. Let's wait until the Superman movie is out before we pass judgment. He was fine in "Pearl," but the role was so small, it's hard to get a gauge on him.

[quote]The only reason he's the new Superman is because he did for James Gunn what I refused to do, plus he resembles me.

There are many criticisms one could make, but "resembling" Cavill is not one of them.

He resembles Superman, just as every actor whose portrayed him in recent history.

R45

How much did your mother blame you for ruining her life?

by Anonymousreply 46July 21, 2024 4:58 AM

R45 here is what I do not understand.

Surely in your research on Cluster B personality disorders, you would have come to the conclusion - as is generally accepted - that an antisocial personality disorder and a narcissistic personality disorder are not mutually exclusive. Rather, you appear determined to bifurcate them. Why is that?

by Anonymousreply 47July 21, 2024 5:19 AM

[quote]Corenswet I feel bad for because his Superman looks absolutely ridiculous.

If you're referring to his haircut as Clark, I agree, but the whole point of it is to FINALLY make it at least MORE plausible that he'd go unrecognized as Superman. You have to admit this has always been one of the stupider aspects of how the comic was even set up. Also, if you walk around any given area popular with Gen Z types, you will see this broccoli perm – yes, it has a name – on most of the guys.

As for his "lack of appeal": bitches, please. He *was* a glorified extra in "Twisters," and unless you watched "The Politician" and "Hollywood," you haven't seen his charm in action. (Ryan Murphy clearly has a hard-on for him.) Finally, are we forgetting that James Gunn is responsible for Chris Pratt's entire career resurgence?? He was the chubby hubby on "Parks & Rec," but after getting into shape for the first "Guardians" movie, he became a true overnight success.

Gunn knows what he's doing, and *already* directed the best DC film of the past decade: "The Suicide Squad." (Admittedly after DC botched the first "Suicide Squad." Gunn's is exponentially better.) I have faith in him for the time being.

Ultimately the problem for Corenswet is that he looks more like Superman when he was playing a male hooker for Ryan Murphy than he does actually playing Superman. That’s not Corenswet’s fault, that’s James Gunn’s fault.

by Anonymousreply 51July 21, 2024 5:45 AM

Here's a scene from The Politician where Corenswet is effective. From this, you'd think he could act and that he had something special.

“She looks oddly miscast in the role she was born to play”

That’s a good description for Corenswet in Superman

by Anonymousreply 54July 21, 2024 5:54 AM

I hate actors like this but I admit he is striking. He should have never tied himself to Ryan Murphy. Without all the Superman bulk he is very handsome with an innocent quality like Montgomery Clift and James Dean.

by Anonymousreply 57July 21, 2024 6:12 AM

R56 Look like just what you would want in most plug in young man leading parts but no real acting ability. Sometimes those can grow into it. But he's already been fast tracked to Superman. I don't know if he will have the opportunity to grow.

by Anonymousreply 58July 21, 2024 6:14 AM

In a world of celebrities who can't help themselves from oversharing, I find it refreshing that he keeps his personal life private. He and his wife were married but I don't think he's ever identified her. She comes from a Catholic family and his dad is Jewish, so they had an interfaith marriage in New Orleans' Immaculate Conception Church last year.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 59July 21, 2024 6:16 AM

He's like a young Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Cruise, Clift as mentioned and to a lesser degree Beatty. You don't even necessarily wanna fuck them but they are so damn pretty and broken you follow their plight almost like a young girl.

by Anonymousreply 60July 21, 2024 6:21 AM

Although I know Jewish people come in all shapes and sizes, he looks so un-Jewish to me.

by Anonymousreply 61July 21, 2024 6:22 AM

R61 I could be mistaken, but I think only his dad is Jewish, which would make him technically not Jewish unless his mother converted before she gave birth to him.

by Anonymousreply 62July 21, 2024 6:26 AM

The only thing I’ve seen him in was Hollywood and I didn’t think he was much of an actor. Still at least he’s a heck of a lot easier on the eyes than Mouseboy.

by Anonymousreply 63July 21, 2024 12:09 PM

He looked Jewish in The Politician.

He would have made a very good Oliver in Call Me By Your Name. I disagree about not tying himself to Ryan Murphy because Murphy understands him certainly better than James Gunn (I dislike Murphy but he frequently casts well - Evan Peters, etc.) There is a kind of wickedness in him. A comment that was made about Armie Hammer once is that he would have made a good Guy Woodhouse. Corenswet would also fall under that description. The Murphy track-roles and Pearl were moving him towards that kind of typecasting; Superman will be a burden especially because this Superman looks to be of the “Well golly Lois” variety.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 64July 21, 2024 1:39 PM

Yeah I heavily agree. I think he's pretty much like a modern day version of Douglas Fairbanks Jr. I mean that technically he could be "star material" but he's still severely lacking something and probably won't leave a lasting impression.

Oh he’s married?

Oh he’s gonna bomb. Watch.

by Anonymousreply 66July 21, 2024 2:22 PM

An actor like Jack Quaid will have a bigger career. Yes, Quaid is a nepo baby x2, but he does have a certain charisma that Corenswet lacks.

by Anonymousreply 67July 21, 2024 2:36 PM

James Gunn's contribution to Corenswet's career will be turning a really beautiful guy into "Reacher- Season 2."

Tom Welling was an underrated Superman.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 76July 22, 2024 3:19 AM

Welling if I believe I remember correctly never actually played “Superman.” He only played Clark Kent. It had to do with legal reasons IIRC.

by Anonymousreply 77July 22, 2024 3:24 AM

R77, that's incorrect. The "Smallville" producers chose the show's "no tights, no flying" policy even before the first episode aired, albeit presumably as insisted by the higher-ups at DC. It wasn't a legal issue, and the series finale ended with a flash-forward showing Clark turning into Superman. He even wore the same suit Brandon Routh had in "Superman Returns"! (as a budget-saving measure, but still)

AND they threw in the iconic score from the OG "Superman" movie when he leapt off the roof of the Daily Planet & turned into Superman.

I'm usually a Muscle Mary, but he's one of the rare instances of men who looked better before packing on muscle.

Whoever is training him doesn't seem to understand how differing bodies and where/how muscles connect impact overall aesthetics, symmetry, and balance. Looks more like a "bigger is good" type trainer.

In addition to gyno, he also appears to be developing roid gut.

by Anonymousreply 105August 4, 2024 6:45 PM

David has naturally small nipples as you can see in the picture at R88. This is typically a sign that a man has high levels of testosterone. Unfortunately, the gynecomastia from the steroid use is irreversible, and his nipples will never look like that again.

by Anonymousreply 106August 4, 2024 6:47 PM

He’s dull as ditchwater.

by Anonymousreply 107August 4, 2024 6:57 PM

Unfortunately the surgery for this requires scarring at the edge of the aureole

Phenomenally stupid of him to do this when all his previously cast roles required him to take his shirt off.

When Cavill was cast they got an elite trainer for him, the trainer asked him if he would like to use steroids to get into shape and Cavill said no, and the trainer said that if Cavill had said yes, he would have refused to train him.

Obviously, costs were cut in this situation.
