Shiloh buys ad in L.A. Newspaper announcing she’s dropping Brad’s last name
Brad Pitt’s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is making moves in court to have a judge quickly sign off on her request to drop his famous last name, In Touch can exclusively reveal.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Shiloh, 18, recently took out a spot in The Los Angeles Time announcing the petition she filed.
Angelina Jolie's daughter required to place the notice in the local paper before her petition can be approved by the court.
The newspaper notice explains Shiloh filed a petition for a decree changing names from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to simply Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
The notice told all persons interested in this matter or anyone who believes the petition should not be granted should show up to court later this month.
As In Touch previously reported, Shiloh submitted her petition in Los Angeles on her 18th birthday, May 27.
She told the court the reason for dropping her last name was “personal” but she did not expand on the answer.
A source close to Angelina, 49, told Entertainment Tonight that Shiloh hired her own attorney and paid for everything herself. The insider told the outlet, “Angie doesn’t know and can’t speak for it.”
Insiders told In Touch that Brad, 60, was "blindsided" by the decision, but he "wasn't surprised."
“He feels that Angie has slowly but surely turned their kids against him. She absolutely influenced their decisions to distance themselves from their dad,” the source said.

I'm not down with the kids doing this, but to be clear, this "ad" she bought wasn't some blatant "I hate you, so I'm dropping your name." It's an ad that is required when you make a name change...my brother did the same thing. It's basically "(person's name) is now changing their name to (new person's name)" in the classified ads section.

He should, r5. Unless there is something completely fucking vile that we haven't learned about, but if there really was, I think we would have heard about it by now. It sounds like what happened on the plane was him giving one of the (reportedly extremely spoiled by more than one source) kids a bit of reckoning for being an asshole. If he was serially beating/abusing/molesting one or more of them, we surely would have heard about it and we haven't.
So the kids are being brats - and apparently, that was a major reason for the split: her letting them run rampant and do whatever the fuck they wanted, whereas Brad was trying to establish boundaries (and not successful because OF COURSE, who are the kids going to side with - the good cop or the bad cop?).

R4 There's no such law in California. You just start using your new name. If there were such a law, everyone that took their spouse's last name would be required to take out such an ad. There is no such requirement.

You get to change your name to whatever you want when you get married in California, and there's no announcement required in a weird quirk of the law. Or at least that's what the county clerk told me when I got married lo these many years ago. I wish I'd known about it earlier as my husband goes by his middle name and when I suggested he use the opportunity to legally change the order of his given names he demurred. It was a limited-time offer as the forms had to be signed right then. I think if he'd had time to think about it he would have gone ahead with the switch.

This Hollywood family drama has been polarizing to witness. On the one hand, you can make a very strong case for parental alienation and brainwashing propagandized by a very bitter Angelina Jolie but on the other hand I find it quite odd that out of six children not a single one appears to identify with Brad as a father. The biological and the adopted. A few months back when there were rumors of Shiloh wanting to move in with Brad I thought "that's normal" but then suddenly, she not only drops his name when turning eighteen but she makes it very public as well like twisting a knife into Brad's gut which again is very spiteful and unusual behavior. I suspect the twins will follow in their sisters' footsteps, and no matter how much you dislike Jolie, this says more about Pitt than it does about her. My guess is it was his own behavior, and whatever he said or did caused all of the children to form an alliance. I just don't think Angelina is that powerful, but only time will tell. They all seem rather enmeshed to her at the moment.

R30 only adults really carry grudges like that. Brad would have had to be beating her everyday for the last eight years for her to dislike him on her own at this level. This is definitely the work of Angelina. And it’s not just her saying how bad Brad is BUT how much it would make her happy, feel better if she did. Children are very protective of their mother’s happiness in divorces like this. Trust me I know. Most of us kids from the 70s know.

The kids could hate their dad because he’s an asshole and deserves it, but the name changing is sort of performative and suggests there is more going on.
It’s such a weird situation. I can understand people fighting over money or Alice Evans going crazy when her husband dumps her after she has gotten fat and is entering middle age, but the Jolie-Pitt divorce happened when she was still at her prime and they both have more money than they could ever realistically spend. Why couldn’t she get past it?

Not when you consider that her mother is doing the exact same thing.
A very public divorce, fought in the media, spreading all sorts of rumors and speculation, all coming from Angelina Jolie.
The daughter has either learned from her mother very well, or she is being coached by her mother.
Angelina is STILL fighting her divorce in the media.
And then there's her fight with her own father when she was a teenager.
Angelina has a pattern and a history of doing this. She's very damaged, and now she's damaging her kids.
[quote] I suspect the twins will follow in their sisters' footsteps, and no matter how much you dislike Jolie, this says more about Pitt than it does about her
Brad has not said a word. Even in response to this betrayal by his daughter, his only statement is that it hurts him. Very simple and to the point.
Brad is not the one instigating this fight.

My dad always blamed my mom for "keeping us" from him but the truth was that we weren't stupid. We had examples from even outside of our own home of what a father should be like and it wasn't him. Our friend's parents were better to us than he was. My mom never said a peep about the man.
Shiloh and the other kids (because it wasn't just one of them doing this) aren't stupid or brainwashed. They clearly have an issue with him and are old enough to make up their own minds outside of their parents.

Brad Pitt was raised in a middle class community in Missouri, and was probably taught that certain behavior is unacceptable and that you should be thankful for everything you are given. I know that's what I, and the friends I grew up with, learned from our parents. Brad was probably using that same value set to (try to) teach his children. Those values do not matter to Generation Z. It's all about them and their needs.

Mothers with raging BPD/personality disorders, like Angie, view life as a war. You're on their side 100%, or you are an enemy to be destroyed.
When there's been a breakup, they keep their kids away from the other parent with two main tactics:
1. Acting the victim. They seem so vulnerable, so fragile and hurt, that the kids are naturally protective, and naturally terrified to do anything that might add any additional "injuries" to the poor trembling, terrorized bunny that is their mom.
2. The threat of going SCORCHED EARTH if any child seems like they might break ranks and try to reconcile with dad. That means: You don't get any of your mother's love or attention ever again. You are dead to her. And it also means she will go scorched earth on any sibling that tries to maintain contact with you. So it's basically the equivalent of leaving a cult -- you will be shunned by everyone in your old life. Not one person in the mother's orbit will ever be allowed to have anything to do with you again, and that includes friends, godparents, extended family that she controls, and all.
I have no idea what Brad did or didn't do but I know the tactics of personality-disordered witches all too well and Jolie is absolutely a textbook case in every way.

R73, remember that VF interview where AJ claimed she cried in the shower so her kids wouldn't know? Except they can probably access the internet or TV where that titbit was breathlessly reported for at least a week.
She's achieved a lot given her neurotic need for attention, but at the end of the day, she's a stupid, basic bitch. The ongoing court dramas show her to be a major Karen underneath all the surgeries, tatts and couture.

R60, let's not forget that the preying mantis essentially isolated the kids too. They only had their siblings to interact with. No outside influences.
She tried isolating Brad too and I wonder if that didn't lead to a lot of his drinking and anger issues.
Never stick your dick in crazy.

R39 I don't think that is true. It really depends on the behavior that broke up the marriage and that behavior does not have to be beating or abusing the child. Sometimes the behavior of the parent causes such chaos and hurt and dysfunction in the home that the kids do have a deep loathing when they are 18. Some of that will be pent up hurt, it's easier to be furious than to explore the hurt and betrayal etc
