Meh:
That's the best they could come up with?

Bonnie Raitt deserves it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 18, 2024 5:31 PM |
Agree R2. Raitt is a legend.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 18, 2024 7:14 PM |
It’s utterly confounding that Liza has never received this award, but, at this point it must come down to the likely possibility that she can’t/won’t commit to appearing in person (which is required to receive this honor) due to her precarious health and the fact she resides on the other coast, so travel could be tricky.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 18, 2024 7:19 PM |
Bonnie Raitt is quite overrated.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 18, 2024 7:36 PM |
I’ll never forget The Queen’s tribute to Babs. I had never seen her sing something so straight. Brilliant vocalist.

To R6-you must be "drunk and high as shit"!!!
Lady Gagda is overrated, Amy Winedrughouse is overrated!!
Bonnie Raitt is a "national treasure" who deserves the Honor.
Gladys Knight& the Pips too!!

LoL, r6, far from it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 18, 2024 7:49 PM |
Well can we agree that the Dead are overrated?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 18, 2024 7:53 PM |
Reply 10 and no Mathis ?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 18, 2024 7:53 PM |
What a boring list.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 18, 2024 7:57 PM |
The story was that Kennedy Center waited too long and now Liza is too ill to travel and the honoree must attend. But Liza claimed only a month ago that she was going to Paris. That was probably a lie, but if she could go to Paris, she certainly could make this.

Brendad Ickson 2025!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 18, 2024 9:01 PM |
The news he’s left off again should damn near kill bob newhart…..
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 18, 2024 9:15 PM |
This year is weirdly lopsided with mostly musicians.
In past years they would balance with a film star, pop musician, more of a genre musician, perhaps a dancer, etc.

I've always enjoyed the KCH's but in recent years, the show changed big time and not in a good way. Also, the choices have been a bit lackluster. I think the last show I've enjoyed ended with an amazing tribute to the members of LED ZEPPELIN. That was 2012.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 18, 2024 9:39 PM |
r7 I was considerably less impressed.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 18, 2024 9:55 PM |
boy, being left off the list again probably killed Bob Newhart this morning...

Where the fuck is Faye Dunaway?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 18, 2024 11:10 PM |
The Kennedy Center is a disgrace and ought to be ashamed.
Still no honors for two of the most deserving performers ever: Liza Minnelli and Johnny Mathis.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 18, 2024 11:32 PM |
All three have strong SF/Northern California roots. Love it.

r8/r9 Bless your heart. Get out more.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 19, 2024 5:05 AM |
it's a phony, made-for-TV award, always has been, always will be. They must not think Liza's not a draw anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 19, 2024 5:22 AM |
Where is Liza!?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 19, 2024 5:23 AM |
R18 😆 If you watch the video you can se how much she actually does approve. It’s like a teacher watching their student. They all were. James Brolin, Morgan Freeman—I’m guessing he was honored that year too. I didn’t know Bey could sing like that. Like she sung it faithfully not infused with r&b or gospel. Like she has soul because the emotion behind her voice but she sung it like it is supposed to be sung. And her runs are just perfect. She was styled like her too. It’s just a beautiful performance.

Betty White deserved one far more than Liza. This was a travesty.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 19, 2024 1:52 PM |
Kris Kristofferson deserves one.

Re-cap of the evening.
[quote]It was a musical evening at the Kennedy Center Honors — so musical, it turned out, that even Robert De Niro played piano.
[quote]Coppola jumped to his feet in excitement when Scorsese told a story about the time Coppola was cooking red sauce, but they had to go to the movie studio to watch a cut of Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz.” The key to a good red sauce is constant stirring, Scorsese said. Someone has to watch the sauce! So Coppola attached a wooden spoon to an old projector and turned it on.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 9, 2024 2:21 PM |
r5 that's pretty much it. Liza is too infirm now to do it.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 9, 2024 2:48 PM |
No Kim Carnes!!!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 9, 2024 3:01 PM |
[quote] No Kim Carnes!!!
In all seriousness, I don't see much of a difference between Bonnie Raitt and Kim Carnes other than Raitt being a musician.
