He said he would leave the race if medical condition emerges and half an hour later it is being announced that he meets criteria. Or maybe not. Will this be this week's cliffhanger?

by Anonymousreply 18July 17, 2024 10:41 PM

A simple twist of fate can change everything.

by Anonymousreply 19July 17, 2024 10:41 PM

Jesus. It's COVID - it's an established, unremarkable thing at this point. But, it's another frailty point against him. It probably shouldn't be, but some people will run with it.

by Anonymousreply 20July 17, 2024 10:42 PM

This is so his mental decline can be blamed on "brain fog" from long-Covid, not dementia.

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2024 10:43 PM

Get well soon!

by Anonymousreply 22July 17, 2024 10:44 PM

This could very well be the open door for Kamala to walk through. One way or the other which I prefer not to think about.

by Anonymousreply 23July 17, 2024 10:45 PM

Madam President.

by Anonymousreply 24July 17, 2024 10:47 PM

Let's see how he's doing in 10 days.

People need to remember Trumps fumbling of Covid was a big reason why he lost. I’m not trying to take credit away from Biden be we must remember the state our country was in. We had an idiot managing the biggest global pandemic since the era when people died from the chickenpox.

by Anonymousreply 39July 17, 2024 11:04 PM

He taped an in-person interview for a Univision radio show at a local Latino-owned family restaurant before he canceled his appearance at the conference. A photo shows him greeting supporters at the Lindo Michoacan restaurant alongside a campaign advisor for his Nevada state team before the interview was recorded.

by Anonymousreply 43July 17, 2024 11:08 PM

Newsom lives in California, Kamala lives in DC, I don't know where she is registered to vote but that can easily be changed to DC.

by Anonymousreply 56July 17, 2024 11:27 PM

Most people including me voted for Biden to get Trump out of the WH. I never liked him. A lot of people were lukewarm for him but we wanted Trump out. Biden said he would only do one term. At this point, I think only trannies want Biden to stay in the race. He helps them more than anyone else would and DL is hard-core trans these days.

All the political players, Hollywood players are interacting with him for hours, days and days. They aren’t just seeing segments like we in the general public. Something is up. They would not be all out to get Biden, especially if the internal polling is so bad. These are liberals people. They would be especially sensitive to accusations of ageism. They see what we see and just know what’s up and that internal polling is like Fuck we’re screwed.

Can't the Vice President and Cabinet force him out of office via the 25th Amendment?

Once again, anybody calling for Biden to quit without proposing a detailed plan for creating, organizing and funding a national campaign for candidate X and getting candidate X on the ballot in all 50 states without the entire election getting thrown into court needs to sit down and shut all the way the fuck up.

You think we've got chaos right now? Wait for the legal shitstorm that the GOP will unleash the second Biden pulls out. And he knows that.

I think he's towing the line until plans are in order. There can't be any gap between him bowing out and the next steps being in place or the GOP will jump on it. If he is going to drop out, I assume there is back room shit currently going on to figure out what the roll out is going to be.

High fever for about a day (with all the aches and malaise that brings) and mostly URI symptoms as opposed to bronchial. My husband’s temps tipped over 103 for a few hours and he was burning up to the touch.

R148, he looks wiped out. I legit feel bad for him (MARY! as it may sound). He's a good guy, he doesn't deserve all this stress at his age. COVID isn't pleasant even if you've been vaxxed. Imagine getting it in your 80s.

by Anonymousreply 150July 18, 2024 3:27 AM

I get the sense that Biden really resents handing it to Kamala. He got boxed into nominating her. He did her job far better and had to work to get it. I think she can win, but it’s a shame that Democrats have blocked off talent since 2008.

Why are most people here so vicious? The President is sick, yet you want him to suffer more because he didn’t step down.

If Biden steps down, you’re still not pleased. Many of you, on other threads, don’t want Vice President Harris to run. You completely disregard her. You want her to step off the ticket, too. Then, you dismiss other Democrats for various reasons. This one’s too liberal, that one’s too conservative, one of them pissed you off 25 years ago etc. Yet, you ignore Project 2025….

by Anonymousreply 166July 18, 2024 4:01 AM

I know I’ll catch shit for this but I think Biden should pardon both Hunter and Trump.

Those Federal cases against Trump are dead in the water anyway and by pardoning Trump it pulls the “persecuted” rug out from under his fat cankles but leaves the 34 state felony convictions intact

Because he deprived Democrats of the right to pick their candidates in a primary.

[quote]Many of you, on other threads, don’t want Vice President Harris to run. You completely disregard her.

So did Biden. He was actually telling top Democrats that Kamala could not be elected, to save his own candidacy.

R87, Clyburn's another one who won't let go. He'll (hopefully) turn 84 in a few days and he's still in office.

It's interesting how you have to be a certain age to run for the highest office in the land yet there's no age cap. If a 21-year-old is too inexperienced to run then an 82-year-old is too damn old to run. We need term limits and age limits on the ballot in the GE. If we left it up to the politicians they'd never put this to a vote.

by Anonymousreply 180July 18, 2024 7:14 AM

If Biden stays in the race, I am concerned about two events where he will be under enormous pressure:

1. The second presidential debate scheduled for September between Biden and Trump.

2. But the most important and stressful event will be Biden's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. If anything goes wrong during this speech with the entire world watching, it will be catastrophic with no time to replace him.

by Anonymousreply 190July 18, 2024 1:53 PM

Exactly. She could talk about how it felt when he called for the execution of 5 innocent black men, what it’s like to live in a world of rapists, and how her job is to bring justice to criminals whose power protects them.

R208 Trump thinks he is invincible, I am not saying he thought that giving Covid to Biden would definitely kill Biden and it didn't work. Biden didn't even get it from Trump but I have no doubt Trump wanted to give it to Biden who he considered a frail old man, It is one of the reasons Trump kept interrupting Biden, Trump was looking in Biden's direction constantly shouting at him, knowing that he was shedding Covid. Trump cares about no one but himself, that should be clear to anyone who has been paying attention the last 8 years. Trump didn't care that he had it and was shedding it and didn't care who he gave it to.

by Anonymousreply 226July 19, 2024 11:42 AM

And thus, the end of the Democratic party as a viable contender.

by Anonymousreply 229July 19, 2024 12:39 PM

Cognitive decline, senility, "Oldsheimer's"---None is inevitable.

My husband died of dementia at 73; his two older brothers predeceased him with it. My mother, OTOH, and my best friend's mother each died sharp as the proverbial tack in their early 90s.

My experiences prove nothing about President Biden, or Trump, for that matter. Both men have shown some physical difficulties; both men have had some verbal problems.

But IMO only one is a security threat (already a traitor, so....); only one plans to tear families apart for racist deportations; only one is a convicted felon awaiting more trials; only one is, in short, a sociopath.

That would be Donald John Trump.

And not to put too fine a point on it, but the original Van Gogh cut off his own ear. J/S.

Gerald Ford was chosen as Vice President following Spiro Agnew's resignation due to his favorable reputation among his colleagues in the House. As a Republican and the House Minority Leader, Ford was seen as principled, experienced, and non-controversial, making him an ideal choice to counterbalance the scandal-ridden Nixon administration. His appointment also came about indirectly due to the assassination of John Kennedy and the subsequent constitutional amendment formalizing the process for selecting a Vice President.
