I have stopped watching MSNBC this week, and I am a 24/7 (except for that shitty Dateline crap) watcher.
I did catch Jake Soboroff asking a Republican twinkette about her views, but he never asked he if she wanted to die in childbirth or be forced to deliver and raise her rapist's baby?

It really grates on me that Nicolle - who surely knows better - diminishes the reliability of the Fox News poll (as she did today in the context of those in favor of SCOTUS reform. Fox’s polling operation is famously independent of the news department & is highly rated.

Did Joy Ann ever disavow her self-acclaimed title of "first Black woman prime time news host?" Poor dear.
Her makeup looks good tonight, but I hope she's not growing out the buzz cut (her best look ever); time to see the barber, Joy.

I'm Team Ari on this one. She seems insufferable, her delivery is super annoying, and most of what she says is common knowledge that she feels compelled to "explain" to the audience in a condescending manner.

I’d rather listen to political commentary from people like Nicolle Wallace or Jen Psaki or even Symone Sanders who have actually worked on campaigns or worked for a President, rather than Maddow who has a fancy degree from Oxford but has spent her entire life bloviating on radio and TV but not actually doing anything of importance.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 19, 2024 2:12 PM |
I don't understand the Rachel backlash. She's brilliant and there's no one like her. She holds everyone to a higher standard. MSNBC gave her a sweetheart deal that's embarrassing and essentially pays her to do the podcasts she'd do anyway. But i can't hate her for having better negotiators than they do.
Let me guess that Ari is intimidated by Rachel's braininess and her failure to respond to his lame rap allusions. I like him but he's long-winded and has difficulty making points. Rachel doesn't.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 19, 2024 4:13 PM |
I watch Rachel and don't hate her but I do find her extremely condescending at times and she is in love with the sound of her own voice and opinions. There is a reason she only normally has one guest on her show, there is no time for more when she is done bloviating. In my opinion MSNBC would have been better served by just letting her leave and not giving her $85 million do only do one night a week most weeks and some podcasts that I will never listen to but have to listen to endlessly promote. MSNBC should have have told her, either do five nights a week or none.

Really surprised about Katy Tur. Is it time for a clean-out at MSNBC?
I searched around for ratings info and found this: "MSNBC’s worst week of the year, so far, came during the first week of the third quarter. During the second quarter of 2024, MSNBC averaged 810,000 total viewers compared to 1.3 million for Fox News and 618,000 for CNN."
These numbers are so pathetic. There are ordinary-people youtube channels that do as well, from the backroom of their apartment.

“Kamala Harris’ office has had a staggering 91.5 percent turnover rate since she became vice president, an investigation from government watchdog organization Open The Books (OTB) revealed on Monday. Of the 47 staff members hired when Harris took office in 2021, only four reportedly remained in her employment as of March 2024.
The report comes as Biden’s X account announced he will “stand down” from his reelection campaign and “fully support” Harris as the new nominee. OTB utilized U.S. Senate disclosures to obtain records from the vice president’s office, including 2021 and 2024 payrolls.”

Alex Wagner had on Minnesota Gov Time Walz, I knew of him but don't think I have ever heard him even speak before. He is a pretty impressive speaker, not much to look at but he delivers the message effectively. Morning Joe has Elise Jordan conducting focus groups in Wisconsin. The Trump voters on the panel were morbidly obese lumps. The swing voters knew nothing about Kamala but some think she's untrustworthy because she didn't tell the world Joe's health was deteriorating.
The Trump voters thought Kamala was dumb and unqualified. She threatens every value they hold dear.
These were good segments illustrating what goes on in these peoples' heads.

Elise needs to understand that Trump voters are also RACIST voters.
The only thing missing from her segment, which is being rerun on morning MSNBC, id the Benny Hill soundtrack.
Mostly a bunch of dumbass white people who are neither Urban, or suburban, but that lovely type of rural racist.
Elise needs to find non-racist rurals if she wants to find anyone movable.
The racists are baked.

Then ask your dumbass questions.

Voting for Kamala Harris could support policies that affirm and protect the rights of transgender individuals, including toddlers who are exploring their gender identity. Harris has consistently advocated for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion, emphasizing the need for comprehensive healthcare and supportive environments for transgender people. Her support for such policies aligns with efforts to provide resources, counseling, and protections for young children undergoing gender transition, ensuring their well-being and affirming their identities from an early age.

The rift began with a disagreement on Monday afternoon, the details of which I don't remember. However, I recall Joy forcefully disagreeing with something Jen had said, to which the host (Tur? He also addressed him as “Mr Mayor”. I know others are saying that’s because he wasn’t speaking as a member of the Biden Administration, but it still didn’t come off well. It seemed to be an insult, as in “you’re always going to be thought of as a mayor, and that’s it.”

I don't think he's angling, but who knows. All MSNBC has to do - whether or not they will is up for question - is run Glaude's statements that "he could not vote for Hilary Clinton."
[quote]PRINCETON, N.J. - Dr. Eddie S. Glaude, Moss Point native and current Chair of the Department of African-American Studies at Princeton University, recently penned an opinion column for TIME discussing his unwillingness to support Hillary Clinton in the upcoming presidential election.
That's when I stopped listening to anything he said. He did apologize at some point. And he was great today on "The Weekend."
But he still bothers me.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | July 27, 2024 1:35 PM |
Eddie Glaude is the New James Baldwin.
He voices the historical political grievances against Black people.
He reframes the discussion, like Whoopi, through Black lenses.
And he was great today on "The Weekend."
Tish James is killing it on "The Weekend".
We need to listen to our Black brothers. We would not be here if had listened sooner.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | July 27, 2024 1:40 PM |
Letitia James has been making the rounds this week, including 'The Weekend' this morning. She's obviously auditioning for the AG position once Harris gets in.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | July 27, 2024 1:45 PM |
I didn't read his opinion piece, but what was his reason for not voting for Hillary in 2016 ?
by Anonymous | reply 266 | July 27, 2024 1:46 PM |
If not Sally Yates, James would be excellent.
The Last four years for her were prosecuting Donald Trump.
The NEXT four years should be her prosecuting the Trump Administration.

by Anonymous | reply 268 | July 27, 2024 6:01 PM |
Here's the famous Glaude opinion piece, now eight years old. You certainly can't call his prescient.
He's never apologized or admitted how wrong he was. " What I did wrong in 2016 is I overestimated white people. I didn't think white people would put Trump in office."
He's a fool who needs to fuck right off.

Symone needs more than polish, R270.
She put on a spectacular display Saturday morning by actually braying like a mule, flashing her large mouthful of gums and teeth. It was positively disgusting.
If she's waiting for a call from Vice President Harris, she's wasting her time; Kamala Harris wouldn't touch messy Symone with a ten foot pole.

I love Symone, but her Pro-Hamas bullshit is too much sometimes. She sat in for Stephanie last night, and she challenged General Barry McAfree that Israel had attacked a hospital in Beruit in order to take out an architect of the October 7 attack. No acknowledgment of the fresh deaths of 12 Israeli children from a Hezbollah rocket in the Golan Heights. Nothing, not a word. She’s not as extreme as Chrissy Hayes, Alex Wagner, or Joy Reid, and her positives soar way past the Hamas 3, but I’ve never seen her so cold…about children!

Symone & Steele can have a fun conversation while still clapping back at guests.
Drop Alicia, S & S are the perfect duo.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | August 4, 2024 3:31 PM |
I think Alicia is quite charming and very much like the dignified, smart Latina she is. Symone is sloppy. Michael has earned his sloppiness.
But if you don't think the rules are different for Alicia, on a Black run network, you need to ask why they haven't fired Wagner or Ayman.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | August 4, 2024 3:37 PM |
R402, why would a straight guy suck cock? Do you eat pussy?
by Anonymous | reply 411 | August 4, 2024 3:37 PM |
r411, because any sex with a straight man is, by definition, straight sex.
It is a claim that makes the statement true. A virtual sexual tautology.
He got fucked up his straight ass by another straight man.
Ari, has probably heard this many times, as Jews can be down low with the best of 'em.

I totally agree regarding Alicia but I don’t think Michael Steele is sloppy. I actually think Michael is pretty good. I like Symone but Symone needs to be a little polished. Her verbal, stumbling, long, ass, questions, and interruptions need to be worked on.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | August 4, 2024 3:47 PM |
R413 I think it's a nice contrast between the two. Steele is the professional, well-spoken anchor while Symone is very animated and goes for histrionics.

by Anonymous | reply 420 | August 4, 2024 4:52 PM |
I feel a bit ashamed that Symone's talons bother me so much. And like most women with those things, she uses her hands much more as she speaks (to show them off, I guess). That's all I see and I just have to turn her off, even though I'm a big fan of Michael's soothing style.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | August 4, 2024 5:19 PM |

Do not like talons but I assume the ornamentation is supposed to make up for the shaved head. As long as the female reporters do not shove their cleavage in my face, I'm fine.
Did anyone see David Hogg today talking about reaching young voters who've lost faith? Poor dear is losing his hair.
Anyway, I wish Joe Scarborough was there to say "Are they nuts? Are they waiting for an engraved invitation to vote?" Hogg said they were demoralized about Dobbs. What a good reason to sit this election out.

It's very refreshing to see Symone on TV - a black woman who doesn't feel the need to wear a dollar-store hairpiece on television. She's comfortable in her own skin, and her shaved head. Sunny Hostin needs to take note - and toss her collection of 1986 Whitney Houston wigs in the garbage can.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | August 4, 2024 6:01 PM |
I concur, R427. Symone’s low cut is likely because she prefers not having to fuss with long hair (as opposed to Ayanna Presley, who has alopecia). It looks good on her because she has the head shape to pull it off.

If you are an American citizen, you have to deal with American foreign policy. It doesn't matter that our families were killed. That is the nature of war. Shut the fuck up Palestinians, either turn out Hamas or deal with the effects of Hamas rulership.

Ali Velshi’s laughable attempt to tie Hamas to the Dreamers with the Queen of Self-hating Jews was disgusting. Lost major respect for him. Funny how the “Progressives” love to question everyone else’s values over the war in Gaza. THEY need to be held to account for supporting forced genital mutilation of the majority of women residing in the Palestinian Territories. They need to explain their silence over the ongoing executions of gay men (roof party anyone?) in the Palestinian Territories. They need to explain their silence over the threatened genocide of 200,000 Black Israelis when they claim to support BLM? Why the sexual assault of Israeli women is ok? Why the murder of 1200 innocent people is acceptable? No one questioned the US response to 9/11, but the Israelis are not allowed respond to the October 7th Massacre (that included 40 infants burned alive)? You have no credibility and definitely do NOT have the high moral ground here. Own your hypocrisy!

I agree, R544. Joy is doing a great service. And bravo to Lawrence for eviscerating the press over their timid handling of the Orange Vomitbag.

Lawrence was ON FIRE last night! It was a thing of beauty. Too bad the media is in the tank for Trump. It will never change.
If he wins it will be with their help.

Kamala telling a reporter that she doesn't have time to comment on Trump is a valid press response.
She said she is busy running for president.
She gives more information in 2 minutes than Trump dribbles in 90.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson is on Joy's show promoting a documentary about the resistance to drag story hours at libraries. Neither can imagine why this would be a problem or acknowledge that libraries are publicly funded so telling people to stay away from drag story hours if they don't like them, as Joy just did, is problematic.
Personally, this is not the hill I'd die on but reasonable folk can disagree.

Nobody is dying on any hill, r563.
[quote]or acknowledge that libraries are publicly funded so telling people to stay away from drag story hours if they don't like them, as Joy just did, is problematic.
In what way is this problematic? Drag story hours don't utilize the entire library.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | August 10, 2024 1:09 AM |
I respect your opinion and don't want to debate you. I think public library story hours should be themed so every child can attend. Every child needs to be encouraged to read.
In my city, many DSH events are held at private bookstores and other venues, which I think is great. If you disagree, that's fine. My city library only does DSH during Pride Month so it's never been a problem or subject of debated.

I'm very curious - if the publicly-funded library offered children (and/or adults) one hour of 'Bible Study', would anyone see this as problematic ?
I believe the problem lies when it's in a publicly-funded building, with publicly-funded employees.

Stephanie Ruhle says no more couch jokes.
NOPE, SORRY, I AM GOING to CONTINUE to make them until Trump is defeated. She tried to make an argument that Dems should not do that since it's no different than the lie of stop the steal. Basically "they go low we go high" light version. "we would be just like them, repeating things that are not true and we don't need to do that"
WRONG. First of all, the JD Vance thing is funny, it's humor, no one takes it seriously. Secondly, "stop the steal" was a thing that had serious consequences if true and it was litigated in court, that's a very different kind of lie. Third, it's time to get in the mud and wrestle the pig. Do we want to win, or just lose with the claim of moral victory?
We will continue to make couch jokes as long as they are fun. I support our future VP when he said he would debate JD Vance.... if he could get off the couch!.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | August 10, 2024 6:05 AM |
Agree. I think a big part of the Harris/Walz successful launch is that they aren’t doing that Obama “we go high” bullshit.
That might have worked with adults 20+ years ago, but you have an electorate now whose critical thinking skills have been destroyed by social media and The Real Housewives. The only thing that works these days is mudslinging.

So it makes sense Ayman has taken some time off and is on vacation with his wife and kids, before the election season goes into high gear after Labor Day. Same with other media personalities on MSNBC, CNN, etc.
