Hopefully, Jonathan and Matt will be nominated for Fellow Travelers, along with the show.

These are important

Eight to ten nominees per category. Big deal. Practically everything get a nomination.
If they want to be impressive, dial it back down to five. Or three per category.
Otherwise, it's giving Oprah-car giveaway energy.

Everyone gets a nomination! You get one! And you get one! Yawn.

God I know
INSUFFERABLE
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 17, 2024 2:13 AM |
The Drama nominations might be interesting because there’s no massive front-runner like Succession was last year. Shogun will do well, but without a cast of heavyweights, it won’t have a chokehold on the acting categories.
The Bear is going to dominate the Comedy categories, though, which will be boring. Hacks and Only Murders will settle for the scraps.

[quote][R7], I came here to say the same thing. Did you see her on the Outlaws on Prime?
Hilarious! I also wish the other women would get Supporting nominations. Clare Perkins (the activist) and Eleanor Tomlinson (the Instagram girl) were also very good.
Have you seen all seasons? Below is a potential spoiler if you haven’t:
When Jessica gets locked in that Porto-Potty was hilarious, especially when she came rolling out.

Outlaws was fantastic

Baby Reindeer. Richard Gadd, Jessica Gunning and Tom Goodman-Hill should all get nominations.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 17, 2024 2:33 AM |
Baby Reindeer will be in Limited Series, not in Drama.
Drama Series will be Shogun, The Crown, and a ton of shows that would never get in without the strike delays like Slow Horses (which is apparently very good, but would be ignored in a normal year).
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 17, 2024 2:49 AM |
Honestly, what are the feelings about more than 5 noms in the categories? I've hated it since the Oscars made it hip in 2010.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 17, 2024 2:55 AM |
I don’t like it. It just means that the biggest shows rack up a ton of filler nominations. People vote for everyone on The Bear or Succession or The Crown, then ignore everyone else. It makes the nominations less interesting, not more.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 17, 2024 3:04 AM |
Slow Horses is excellent and deserves some recognition
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 17, 2024 3:06 AM |

I honestly didn't like anything enough this year to care. So as long as Emma Stone doesn't win, I'm fine.

I only watch Tubi. I'm poor. They should have an Emmy awards just for Tubi. Best black comedy. Best Norman Lear comedy. Best comedy no older than 10 years.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 17, 2024 3:16 AM |
I’m hoping RIPLEY gets nomonations. I know it dodn’t get the ratings but it was brilliant TV in every category.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 17, 2024 3:24 AM |
Ripley will at least get nominations for Andrew Scott, plus a ton of technical ones.
I didn’t love it as much as R23, but it was an amazing technical achievement. I don’t see how it could lose the Cinematography Emmy.

The Bear and Beef seem to dominate. I wonder if House of the Dragon will get anything?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 17, 2024 4:02 AM |
House of Dragon premiered after the deadline, R25. It won’t get anything until next year. Beef is out until the next installment, which will star Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan.

Palm Royale, which had hour long episodes and was funny, is in the running for a Best Comedy nod, along with The Bear, which has almost no laughs and had some of the most intense drama scenes of the past season, but had 30 minute episodes.
I like The Bear, but it doesn’t belong in Comedy. Hell, Succession was funnier.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 17, 2024 4:59 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 17, 2024 5:19 PM |
Curtis and Colman were both nominated for The Bear.
Even though Emma Stone wasn't nominated, Gladstone was. She and Kali Reis are the first two indigenous actresses nominated, and wlll compete against each other in Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 17, 2024 5:21 PM |
I'm glad he wasn't overlooked but Jonathan Bailey should have been in lead with Matt Bomer. Their roles were equal in importance and screen time in my opinion. Also, the series should have been nominated for best limited series.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 17, 2024 5:22 PM |
The fact that Kali Reis was nominated tells you there's nothing approximating talent going into the decisions. She is one of the worst "actresses" ever nominated for an award. She should never appear in anything again.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 17, 2024 5:23 PM |
Fellow Travelers was an utter snore and Bomer was horribly miscast. It's lucky it got what it did.

JLC was nominated in Guest Comedy Actress.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 17, 2024 5:39 PM |
Bowen Yang is another overrated hack like Leslie Jones. Jones didn't deserve the Emmy nods she got during her SNL run.

The horse woman known as Olivia Colman got an undeserved nomination for The Bear.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 17, 2024 5:45 PM |

Is that you, Angela?

For those who have watched, is The Morning Show really that good? It doesn't pique my interest, but I will give it a try if it really is that outstanding.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 17, 2024 6:34 PM |
Love Reservation Dogs. It sucks you in as a comedy and then stomps all over your heart.

I'm glad Kali Reiss was nominated for supporting in True Detective. She was excellent.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 17, 2024 6:38 PM |
Why was Jessica Gunning not put in Lead for Baby Reindeer?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 17, 2024 6:40 PM |
R63, The Morning Show is completely absurd, but it lets its actors chew the scenery in ridiculously entertaining ways.
Even if you'll never get past the sneaking suspicion that you're watching the worst prestige television show ever made, you'll never be bored.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 17, 2024 6:44 PM |
Aside from Martin Short, the Only Murders nominations are a joke. I didn’t even like Ms. Streep in it, let alone Selena Gomez, Paul Rudd, and Matthew Broderick.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 17, 2024 7:04 PM |
Meryl has been over since her Weinstein comments. A fourth rate supporting role on a sitcom isn’t anything to brag about.
The Morning Show is still on? Who subscribes to Apple TV? Anyone? Talk about filler nominations.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 17, 2024 7:09 PM |
The Morning Show is grossly overrated, and I say that as someone who watched the first season, thought that was only passable, and rhen garve the whole series up when the first episode of season 2 had all the actors looking and behaving differently than they had in season one. It no longer made an sense and I realized I didn’t care about any of the characters. anyway.
I’m no fan of Billy Crudup, but he was the only actor who gave a consistently excellent performance. Reese Wiitherspoon was particularly weak.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 17, 2024 7:15 PM |
Is Reese still doing her “I’m a dyke now!” shtick on The Morning Show?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 17, 2024 7:24 PM |
There should be an Emmy category for Best Terrible Show You Can’t Stop Watching. The Morning Show would be a frontrunner.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 17, 2024 7:33 PM |
I watch the Morning Show, but I'm one of the viewers who is not a fan of Reese Witherspoon's character. Very much a miscast and the love story between her character and Juliana Margolis' character was not convincing in the least. Both looked very uncomfortable.
That said, Billy Crudup, Jon Hamm, Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor deserved their nods.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 17, 2024 8:47 PM |

I know it aired on PBS in the US and is therefore technically eligible for the Emmys, but isn't it too UK-centric and therefore too niche?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 17, 2024 8:53 PM |
Yeah, but it has had no profile on TV in the U.S. I haven’t read one major review of it in the NY Times, Vulture, Deadline ,etc. It’s just not on the radar here.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 17, 2024 9:00 PM |
Anything Jennifer Aniston does will get Emmy attention. They have a serious boner for her.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 17, 2024 9:14 PM |
[quote]isn't it too UK-centric and therefore too niche?
You could say that about Baby Reindeer. I guess that’s the difference in publicity. Bates v PO had the universal message of Everyman taking on Big Government machine. Baby Reindeer had a crazy stalker.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 17, 2024 9:39 PM |
Lessons in Chemistry was a piece of crap.
Was there no love for any of the Season 2 of Julia? Brittany Bradford did excellent work as Alice.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 17, 2024 9:43 PM |
If people don't know the backstory of the Post Office scandal, though (and don't bother to read up on it), it's not going to draw their attention. I live in the Netherlands and it was shown on public TV here (got good reviews, I think, but not-so-great ratings), but the story was only covered by the media here after journalists started comparing it to the child-benefits scandal that brought down the government here a few years ago.
"Baby Reindeer" had a lurid, and some might say hypnotic, appeal from the very first scene.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 17, 2024 9:46 PM |
Nava Mau getting a nomination for Baby Reindeer has to be a joke. She gave the worst performance I've ever seen. Allison Williams should have gotten in over her.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 17, 2024 9:51 PM |
She actually didn’t, R84. Go back to the Baby Reindeer threads and she was lauded. She was great in the show and I think she deserved the nod.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 17, 2024 9:52 PM |
Nava Mau had the most self-conscious performance in that whole show. I don't believe they formally trained as an actor. TERFs will be enraged. They do have a point in saying that Elliot Page will never be nominated for "Best Actor" alongside Chalamet/Mescal/Hiddleston/Cumberbatch/whoever because men are taken more seriously, and Page will never be truly seen as a man.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 17, 2024 10:01 PM |
Wow, this was a bad year and e eryone and its cousin is being no nominated.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 17, 2024 10:35 PM |
The Crown was horrible and, except for Debicki, miscast. The Gilded Age, ditto. Palm Royale for the last episode alone should involve suspending all involved for some time. I find The Bear boring, self important and overrated. Liked Shogun and Hacks, and Mr and Mrs Smith for his shorts appearances. Except for Tom, the Swans in Capote didn’t deserve the nominations as well. Scott Thomas should have been nominated for Slow Horses (a great show even if not as good as the books).
Thetre are not many outstanding shows going on. As such, count me in for thinking The Morning Show wildly entertaining even if soapy. Except for Witherspoon i like almost everyone in it, all camping it out like crazy.

by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 17, 2024 10:48 PM |
R88, the way I sometimes think about The Morning Show is that if it were a better show, it would be less interesting. The producers don't have the chops to make it a great drama, so at least they throw some crazy shit out there.
Reese went to space last season! On a better show, that would be a jump the shark moment. On The Morning Show, it's just your typical episode.

That Television Movie category is just sad. Red, White and Royal Blue might win just for being an actual hit.
Emmy voters actually nominated that awful Pop Tarts movie Unfrosted. It's not like there weren't other choices, like that Jessica Lange dementia drama that got decent reviews and had at least an air of respectability.

I would argue that nearly everyone else in "Reservation Dogs" is better than D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai. Stunned that out of everyone on that show, he's the one with a nomination.
Cosmo Jarvis always has the worst of luck when it comes to awards. He's been in two or three Irish films up for IFTAs and his costars all receive nominations and he gets left out.

This should tell you exactly why they voted for him. That name alone checks fifty boxes.

Agreed, r136, I thought his acting was flat. He was always supported by those around him, like the ghost Indian. I liked Cheese (Cheez?) the best. My favorite episode of the series was when the older guys took him for a camp out and fishing, and he turned it into a counseling session, using techniques he learned in juvie. Funny and sad episode.

Every episode of Reservation Dogs was great, but the Deer Lady episode was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Kaniehtiio Horn should be up for Guest Actress.

Ben Mendelsohn and Juliet Binoche for The New Look. The story wasn’t that good but the two of them were brilliant.

R101/R102 if Downs wasn't the producer he wouldn't even be IN the show. Get that glaucoma fixed, grandpas.

R140, I thought Emily Mortimer was also damn great playing a difficult role.

Yeah, I loved Lane Factor who played Cheese on Reservation Dogs. The entire cast was so great.
I’m glad they wrapped it up though before Olivia Coleman showed up on the reservation. I’m so sick of her.

Agree about Cosmo Jarvis, R136. It’s surprising he isn’t even mentioned among his co-stars. Maybe that’s just awards strategy, they don’t want to distract from the 25 nominations they did get.
The last film I saw in a cinema, the night before lockdown started in the UK, was Calm With Horses which has an incredible lead performance from Cosmo Jarvis, he’s so magnetic in it, with such presence and vulnerability. And when the BAFTA nominations came out, later that year, Calm With Horses was nominated for 4 BAFTAs including Best British Film, Best Supporting Actor - Barry Keoghan, Best Supporting Actress - some nobody, even Best Casting! But no nomination for Cosmo Jarvis who is the entire film. He did get a BIFA nomination though and Best British/Irish Actor of the Year from London Critics Circle.
I’m sure it’s how he booked Shogun.

^^ Meant the last time I was in a cinema pre-pandemic
Btw, there were only 4 of us there! (The best)

R138 Agree that the actor who played Cheese should have been nominated for Rez Dogs—he created a fully realized and memorable character.

I’m finally getting around to watching Shogun (it’s fantastic) and I agree, Cosmo Jarvis definitely should have been nominated.
Not only is sexy and MANLY in it, he’s a really good actor.

I've started my annual Emmy nominee viewing and with the highest number of noms, I started Shogun. Got through the first episode...please let me know if other episodes are better. I just felt like it was a slog to get through number 1.
