Richard Simmons is Dead to Me

He did great asymmetrical exercises but couldn't live forever.

But I digress. Rest in Peace, Richard.

I thought he’d live longer being a fitness guru and all that. Genetics is the ultimate decider in many cases.
He was a bright light who helped many.
RIP💪🏼

Yesterday was his birthday, he made a post a 7:30am and the TMZ report reads that the police are looking at it like a natural death. I wonder if it was a suicide.

R3, because when you click on the alert, an article appears but there is no link to it (none that I can find, anyway). Once it’s posted in the TMZ news feed, I can click on the article and get the link. Maybe they post simultaneously in their feed now, I didn’t check.

What a classy bitch.
Charmed the hell out of Howard Stern.
Was always to-the-hilt on David Letterman.
Retreated into privacy for his final years — even as a really fun and interesting podcast tried to lure him back into the spotlight.
And his final tweet is as sweet as Sinatra.
Loved that Fellini gave him his first break.

I think Trump will live into his 90s. But, I could see Trump suffering a stroke and then just spending the last years of his life between a bed and a wheelchair being cared for by nurses because you know Whorelania won't be changing any adult diapers.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 13, 2024 9:23 PM |
I remember the first time I saw Richard on TV. I was maybe 6 or 7 years old, and he was on CHiPs. I was immediately drawn to him because I knew he wasn't "normal" and I knew I wasn't either.
I got to meet him in the late '90s. He was so nice, engaging, funny as hell, and just magnetic.
I always felt bad for him when he went on David Letterman's show(s) and Dave would always bring out a fire extinguisher and spray Richard with it. Just seemed so demeaning and humiliating towards Richard. I hope he's in peace, wherever he may be.

David Letterman could be a cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 13, 2024 9:36 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 13, 2024 9:37 PM |

R4 I always think about how the ultimate fitness guru Jack LaLanne died at age 96, and Ernest Borgnine, who probably never did a sit-up in his life, died at 95.
LaLanne only got one more year than Ernest out of all those jumping jacks.

R53, Sez you. Ask any of us if we'd like to be 20 again, but in today's world.
Nope. Yes, I hope to live as long as my mother did, to 91, but at 74 I find myself quoting John Mellencamp often:
Oh yeah, life goes on.
Long after the thrill

I just got word like everyone else that the beautiful Richard Simmons has passed. I hope you’re at peace and twinkling up in the heavens. Please give my mother Mitzi and my father Sammy a big hug and a kiss for me. You’re one of a kind, Richard. An amazing life. An amazing story. They broke the dolphin shorts when they made you. Rest in peace, my friend. Rest in peace.

When I was growing up in the 80s Richard Simmons was one of the very, very few gay men you saw in the media back then and I was horrified. I knew I was gay very early on and I thought "this is what I have to look forward to?" I thought gay men were all screaming queen stereotypes and it was so awful to me.

My one brush with the greatness that was Richard Simmons: The American Honda Company got him to come to Cedar Point (an amusement park) about a 15 years ago as part of the "Wellness" portion of the day. I’m gutted by this. He made me feel ok to be me, to be a weird midwestern kid who never felt liked. He made me feel ok to be me by being himself no matter what anybody said. Damn, I’m gonna miss him.
