Who should Kamala pick as VP?

Vote now.

by Anonymousreply 601July 26, 2024 5:55 AM

Gretchen Whitmer but I don't want to lose her as our Governor. I like Pete too.

by Anonymousreply 1July 11, 2024 11:11 PM

Seth Moulton

by Anonymousreply 2July 11, 2024 11:17 PM

Roy Cooper, Governor of North Carolina. A white male from a Southern state may help balance the ticket.

It must be Buttigieg, LGBTQIA+ will not let themselves be passed over again.

by Anonymousreply 4July 11, 2024 11:18 PM

I’m going with Pete only because I think he’s the best messenger in the party and we really need that right now.

by Anonymousreply 5July 11, 2024 11:18 PM

We've been through this already, electors in CA couldn't vote for both Harris and Newsom. Not going to happen. Same for Rubio.

by Anonymousreply 6July 11, 2024 11:19 PM

Gretchen Whitmer. Reproductive freedom is the message this year.

by Anonymousreply 7July 11, 2024 11:20 PM

Some of these choices are insane. Tim Kain? Beto O’rourke? Is this a loser convention.

by Anonymousreply 8July 11, 2024 11:20 PM

R6 But isn’t her residence currently Washington DC?

by Anonymousreply 9July 11, 2024 11:21 PM

If it happens the VP will be either Roy Cooper of NC or Josh Shapiro of PA.

2 very popular governors of critical states

by Anonymousreply 10July 11, 2024 11:24 PM

Two women would lose by a landslide. That's why Hillary didn't pick Elizabeth Warren. I chose Beto, because Texas is on the verge of being a swing state.

by Anonymousreply 11July 11, 2024 11:25 PM

R11 He’s a loser. I like him but he has lost 3 major campaigns. You can’t pick losers running against Trump.

The reason why I think Kamala will win is because she will ensure black voter turnout. It will be crucial this election. Her poll numbers may not be through the roof with black ppl as a whole but at the end of the day we function on code. ALWAYS. White husband and all.

by Anonymousreply 38July 12, 2024 1:18 PM

It is admittedly precariously late to introduce a new running mate who has such a low national profile. The race calls for someone with a high degree of name recognition and a proven history of political commitment. One surefire winner comes to mind over all other capable candidates:

Sharon Stone.

Whether it’s standing up to China in her advocacy for Tibet or her tireless work on behalf of the marginalized through her leadership in AmfAR, Stone has the stellar track record and the hard-won reputation for confronting challenges head on regardless of the opposition.

Moreover, her history of not just portraying but inhabiting a diverse array of complex characters means she will bring an untold level of empathy and compassion to various groups. The addict Ginger in Casino understands only too well the root of the opioid crisis; gunslinger Ellen from The Quick as the Dead recognizes both the harm of gun proliferation as well as the appeal of gun culture in Red America; and Catherine from Basic Instinct won’t need to don a pussy hat - she uses the power of her vagina directly to intimidate and disarm even the most resolute cabal of sexist men, even one led by you know who.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And if you are looking for someone who never shrinks from desperation, only one name rises above all the others: Sharon Stone.

by Anonymousreply 43July 12, 2024 2:16 PM

George Clooney, Matt Damon or Tom Hanks.

OK, I was joking. I'd go with Whitmer because she could deliver not just Michigan, but Ohio, Wisconsin, and Maybe even put places like Kansas, Missouri and Iowa in play.

by Anonymousreply 44July 12, 2024 2:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 47July 12, 2024 9:17 PM

Shapiro or Cooper, whomever can better help to win their respective states, both having the same number of electoral votes.

by Anonymousreply 48July 12, 2024 10:24 PM

Jamie Raskin

by Anonymousreply 49July 12, 2024 10:26 PM

I think Raskin is not well enough to run a vigorous campaign.

by Anonymousreply 50July 12, 2024 11:06 PM

JB Pritzker will crush whoever’s he’s up against. If he sits on them.

by Anonymousreply 51July 12, 2024 11:14 PM

Mark Kelly

by Anonymousreply 52July 20, 2024 12:52 AM

Lori Lightfoot

by Anonymousreply 53July 20, 2024 12:56 AM

Kelly for the win! He puts Arizona more in play. Helps Gallegos in his race. Has border expertise. Matches up well with Vance due to his military background. Also because both parents were cops & he worked in fast food restaurants to support his family. Having the wife being a face of political gun violence helps. And the Democratic governor gets to fill his seat if he wins.

by Anonymousreply 54July 20, 2024 12:57 AM

Whitmer might get slammed by far right wing loons for having a lesbian daughter.

by Anonymousreply 65July 20, 2024 2:14 AM

A Black woman with a Jewish running mate may be a bridge too far.

by Anonymousreply 66July 20, 2024 2:16 AM

I listened in on a Mark Halperin discussion this evening and he said that some republicans were viewing a Harris/Kelly ticket as "formidable."

by Anonymousreply 67July 20, 2024 2:19 AM

There's a Big Donor coup going on and it has House and Senate candidates shitting their pants because their campaigns have been threatened. These fucking donors give to both parties so this is clearly a filthy game plan designed to undermine Joe. If he was really struggling and having trouble he would have been ready to go with the support of his team and family. I have said this before. The media campaign driving this story, has been designed to humiliate Biden because there has been no exit ramp for him. He has d one an amazing job. He is a consequential PResident. No one can tarnish his legacy because his legacy is his accomplishments. This about voter suppression because it's also designed to divide a depress voters. If Biden drops out we will definitely lose some of his supporters. I'm talking a significant %. We are going to have a close election because of all the dirty tricks. But if we lose Joe and his hardcore supporters, it will weaken us. And honestly the turncoat shit for br ains candidates for Congress who are abandoning him, will lose their elections anyway and blame him when they should be looking further.

by Anonymousreply 68July 20, 2024 2:20 AM

What do you think is informing all this, R68? Do you believe they want to take out Biden just for sport?

by Anonymousreply 69July 20, 2024 2:26 AM

But Harris would pick up all the voters Biden has lost because of his age. And the hardcore Biden supporters will still vote for Harris because they understand they can’t let Trump win.

by Anonymousreply 70July 20, 2024 2:27 AM

Andy Beshar two time Gov of Kentucky

I like Kamala and I like Pete but if you guys think America is ready to elect a black woman and a gay man you don't know America.

by Anonymousreply 71July 20, 2024 2:32 AM

R68 All these "in the media" spats across social media... pretty much annoy me. The reference to "it's the mainstream media creating this story" and "it's the elite, the wealthy donors with their corrupt power" etc etc.

Everything you say about Biden's accomplishments are true. I have been a strong Biden supporter in 2020 and in 2024. He's declined in the past couple years... I was pretty worried, and then the State of the Union was reassuring. I was looking forward to the debate - such a great case to make against Trump - the record of the last three years vs Project 2025. Then the astonishing debate, subsequent interviews, and an angry defense of a "victim" instead of a party leader.

My own eyes, my own thinking and analysis, and my own assessment of how best to beat Trump... lead to by strong belief Joe needs to pass the torch. It's not the media. It's not wealthy donors. It's me. A democrat.

Some Biden defenders have started sounded like MAGA.

by Anonymousreply 72July 20, 2024 2:32 AM

It’s not so cut and dried, R70. There are a lot of Biden voters that were his alone. Older voters & non-college educated voters. It’s why Trump risked impeachment to keep Biden from getting the ‘20 nomination. Can Harris attract other voters in numbers to offset Biden’s secret sauce? The great unknown.

by Anonymousreply 73July 20, 2024 2:34 AM

So Nancy Pelosi is not savvy enough to understand that, R73? Or Chuck Schumer? They're just stupid and don't understand electoral politics?

by Anonymousreply 74July 20, 2024 2:41 AM

R73 The voter/demographic story of this election - before the debate when Biden was only a couple "within the margin of error" points behind - it was noted that Biden/Dems were losing support among young black and latino voters (especially men) and losing Gen Z. Harris is the candidate from central casting for Gen Z and voters of color.

by Anonymousreply 75July 20, 2024 2:42 AM

A Harris candidacy may well be a net plus in that she attracts/recovers more voters than she loses. But no one, not even Nancy Pelosi, can know with certainty that she, like Biden in ‘20, and unlike Clinton in ‘16, has the secret sauce to beat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 76July 20, 2024 2:56 AM

I think Harris/Kelly would be a fine ticket. He will draw a certain demographic being a former Navy captain and serving in the Gulf War. Also being an ex astronaut will appeal to another demographic and hopefully shut up Musk. Harris will help get the women’s vote and hopefully poc.

Joe needs to be allowed to bow out with dignity and soon. People will grumble who want him, but they will move forward if the Dems come out strong and fresh.

by Anonymousreply 77July 20, 2024 2:59 AM

Harris is popular among Spelman alumnae, but that was never Biden’s problem. He’s losing young black and Latino men who (presumably) view Trump as the more authoritative candidate able to be tough on foreign stuff and border stuff and crime stuff. Kamala will have a hard time among moderate whites shaking her goofy, giggly “Momala” media perception; she’ll have a tough time with young POC voters shaking her prosecutor / border czar “Copala” social media perception.

Mark Kelly has enough “tough” creds to outflank Trump by virtue of having been an astronaut and military guy. He can keep libs interested by talking about his wife who (actually) was shot in the head in the line of duty and by contrasting his record with fellow Arizona senator/saboteuse Kirsten Sinema.

If Biden drops out, which I hope he does even though I acknowledge he’s the most consequential president of my lifetime, Kamala will almost certainly be the nominee. I think she has poorer prospects than Biden. If Kamala was out of the picture, it would be sort of stupid to try and run a gay or a Jew, just given how high stakes this all is. Kelly seems like our great white hope at this point.

by Anonymousreply 78July 20, 2024 3:01 AM

George Clooney

by Anonymousreply 79July 20, 2024 3:09 AM

Davida for Secretary of the Interior

by Anonymousreply 80July 20, 2024 3:15 AM

Andy Beshear would be a safe choice. He’s well liked in a very red state. A uniter. We need Andy.

by Anonymousreply 81July 20, 2024 3:20 AM

While extolling the virtues of a Mark Kelly candidacy, Mark Halperin raised the doubts of locals about Beshear’s campaign skills for a national campaign.

by Anonymousreply 82July 20, 2024 3:25 AM

The ticket should be John Fetterman/Haley Stevens

Make Creepy Looking People Lead America Again

by Anonymousreply 83July 20, 2024 3:25 AM

OK, let's pretend for a moment that the Fetterman suggestion was a genuine one. He would be very risky even for reasons beyond his precarious health. I read a profile of him lately, in The Newyorker, I think, and he's become addicted to FOX News since they've been portraying him in a rather flattering light lately. There are legitimate concerns he might be Sinema 2.0.

by Anonymousreply 84July 20, 2024 3:31 AM

^ He looks like he ate Sinema.

by Anonymousreply 85July 20, 2024 3:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 87July 20, 2024 3:53 AM

John Fetterman should run so we can get the first ogre president.

by Anonymousreply 88July 20, 2024 4:24 AM

Tammy Duckworth

by Anonymousreply 89July 20, 2024 4:46 AM

R72: they are incredibly bitter about what's happening to "my Joe"! Seeming totally unconcerned about losing everything down ballot as well, almost as though they're okay with Biden leading us off a McGovern/Mondale cliff.

by Anonymousreply 90July 20, 2024 11:33 AM

Mark Kelly/Tammy Duckworth would actually have me interested

by Anonymousreply 91July 20, 2024 12:41 PM

With prospects of defeating Trump now, at least, looking bleak, why would anyone with future presidential ambitions, e/g., Josh Shapiro, want to be on a (losing) Harris-led ticket?

by Anonymousreply 92July 20, 2024 12:55 PM

The best ticket would be Gretchen Whitmer for VP. Excellent person. BTW she is busy fundraising for Senate candidates and she is still with Biden. Enthusiastically. There is some dirty shit going on behind the scenes that people are unaware of. Steve Schmidt has organized a formal group, The NEw Democratic Coalition...to tell Biden to drop out. That's their name. Steve Schmidt, the loudmouth, John McCain guy who gave the world Sarah Palin. There's also a Republican backed informal media group that does calls to discuss strategy on how to use different topics under the heading of Biden is too Old. THey have been pretty effective in bullying him. But it all started with a pollster who worked for Paul Manafort and the Trump guys paid more than half a million to publish in the WSJ. This stuff did not happen organically and it reminds me of the Nixon Dirty Tricks brigade of 1972. Manafort and Roger Stone.

by Anonymousreply 93July 20, 2024 1:51 PM

Huh, R93?! In the same post in which you push Whitmer for VP you attack those (ex-Republicans ... the horror!) trying to push/bully Biden out. Please make sense of what you wrote.

by Anonymousreply 94July 20, 2024 1:56 PM

Didn't Steve Schmidt run Dean Phillips' campaign (yeah, remember that guy?)?

by Anonymousreply 95July 20, 2024 1:59 PM

Whoever she chooses it needs to be a relatively conservative white male with no scandal whatsoever attached to him. Like they used to say about Caesar's wife, he must be beyond reproach.

Mark Kelly or Jim Himes would be excellent.

by Anonymousreply 96July 20, 2024 2:01 PM

Milo Yanopoulous is a straight white man now.

by Anonymousreply 97July 20, 2024 2:03 PM

It’s never going to be Buttigieg. He’s got the stench of that burning toxic train in Ohio all over him. He was head of the DOT and bungled the aftermath. That’s his Benghazi.

by Anonymousreply 98July 20, 2024 2:08 PM

Is Milo even a U S citizen?

by Anonymousreply 99July 20, 2024 2:22 PM

[quote] It’s never going to be Buttigieg.

As much as I'd like to see Gina Raimondo on the ticket, preferably at the top (yes, I'm the one), an all-Biden team ticket is an absolute non-starter.

by Anonymousreply 100July 20, 2024 2:27 PM

What?

by Anonymousreply 101July 20, 2024 2:29 PM

A gay person as VP probably wouldn't fly with many Americans. This country is still quite homophobic.

by Anonymousreply 102July 20, 2024 2:44 PM

Elissa Slotkin would be good VP material. But, she's Jewish and the anti-Semites will trash her.

by Anonymousreply 103July 20, 2024 3:40 PM

Jim Himes is a turncoat. As much as I liked him I was disgusted by his defection from a PResident who would walk over hot coals to support him. He took himself out of consideration when he turned on Joe.

In fact no one who has publicly deserted Biden would be eligible. Baggage would undermine. Personally, this cannot happen. We cannot allow all this behind the scenes undermining of a successful PResident to force Joe out. If he was on life support I would vote for him. I hope Mark Cuban steps up to help stop the donor desertion.

by Anonymousreply 104July 20, 2024 3:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 107July 20, 2024 4:27 PM

Shapiro will easily win Pennsylvania over Trump. He won his Governor race by a significant margin over his Trump-endorsed opponent.

Misogynist young men who don’t want to pay child support will vote for two women this year when Griswold vs. Connecticut is on the ticket.

by Anonymousreply 131July 21, 2024 2:22 PM

Exactly. A huge bump in the MAGA membership came from MRAs and regressive younger men in whom even a mere mention of the word "feminism" induces fits of rage.

by Anonymousreply 132July 21, 2024 2:27 PM

He's not as well known as others but Mitch Landrieu from New Orleans who is part of the Biden Administration would be great Check him out on You Tube. I hope WHEN we get back in office in 2025, we get rid of Merrick Garland, and hire Doug Jones as AG. And I want Pete Buttegeig to move from Transportation where he has done an excellent job, to White House Chief of Staff. He'd be perfect.

[quote]Pete Buttegeig to move from Transportation where he has done an excellent job

He has not done an excellent job.

by Anonymousreply 134July 21, 2024 4:57 PM

Christie recommended Shapiro or Beshear because that would get rid of a Democratic governor, and open the door to a Republican candidate to win PA and Kentucky. Also, a lot of talk about BeShear running for the Senate. So running for POTUS, potentially could take him out of that. Now neither i a bad choice, but neither has a lot of name recognition outside their states. Gretch has more, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 135July 21, 2024 5:37 PM

OK. I just heard this.... HIllary is going to fight Michelle Obama for the nomination in a battle royale at the convention. There will be blood on the floor. (They're both post-menopausal.) Neither one will agree to being the VP, they both want to be President. OMG

by Anonymousreply 136July 21, 2024 5:45 PM

Shapiro is a great option. He’s confident, well-spoken, moderate on most issues, and likable.

by Anonymousreply 137July 21, 2024 5:52 PM

Kamala needs to pick a straight white Christian male to have a fighting chance.

by Anonymousreply 138July 21, 2024 6:14 PM

Agreed that she would. Interesting that there's not much call for her to replace him, as there is for an open convention.

by Anonymousreply 139July 21, 2024 6:15 PM

Two women can win this year. Vance wants to take birth control away from straight men.

by Anonymousreply 140July 21, 2024 6:18 PM

Either Kelly or Shapiro. If she thinks NC is a better demographic fit for her than Pennsylvania - they both have an equal number of electoral votes, she should go with Kelly to pick up Arizona.

by Anonymousreply 141July 21, 2024 6:20 PM

Kelly's got the best storyline.

R142 Kelly has no charisma and he is ugly. He looks like he is from outer space. And Gabby is in no shape to be his partner in this endeavor.

by Anonymousreply 144July 21, 2024 7:01 PM

I suspect that Gabby Giffords is mostly under the care of paid caregivers and Mark just remains married to her for financial reasons.

by Anonymousreply 145July 21, 2024 7:04 PM

Pretty much anyone on the Democratic bench is better than the GOP shitshow ticket.

by Anonymousreply 146July 21, 2024 7:50 PM

Shapiro

I'd like to see the Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens. He is done a lot of great things for Atlanta. And I would love to see him up on the world stage doing those things. I live in Atlanta and I voted for him and I would vote for him on whatever ticket he was on.

by Anonymousreply 149July 21, 2024 8:38 PM

I'm for either Beshears (he is hot!) or Whitmer. I saw her on Colbert and she is a really poised, fun, smart person! And she's a lawyer. Think about it. Two lawyers, women. The SCOTUS would shit itself.Kavanaughhasstill not recovered from Kamala's questioning him, and Clarence and Sam will be ready to commit suicide.

by Anonymousreply 150July 21, 2024 8:42 PM

At first I thought "no way would a two women ticket fly." Now, I'm not so sure. Maybe it's good to let GOP show all those female voters how truly misogynistic they are.

by Anonymousreply 151July 21, 2024 8:46 PM

I just hope Kamala picks someone that America likes and not someone she likes like Hilary did with her pick of Tim Kane.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 153July 21, 2024 9:06 PM

I highly doubt any Senators will be picked as a running mate, the Democrats need every Senator they can to stay in the Senate and a Governor will better balance out the ticket.

by Anonymousreply 154July 21, 2024 9:52 PM

[quote] I highly doubt any Senators will be picked as a running mate, the Democrats need every Senator they can to stay in the Senate

Do you understand how senators are replaced if one resigns or dies?

by Anonymousreply 155July 21, 2024 9:59 PM

Beto is the best one.

by Anonymousreply 156July 21, 2024 10:46 PM

People need to be strategic.

No currently sitting Dem Senator should be picked, because we absolutely need to keep the Senate. Too risky.

Similarly with sitting Dem Governors in swing states.

Newsome makes no sense because you'd have two people from California. That's an easy attack line, as well as a complete lack of demographic power when we need to win the Electoral College.

Someone from Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, ... I'd say Shapiro but it's not guaranteed he'd be replaced by another Dem as Governor of PA. So not him. But we need someone that doesn't turn off huge swaths of the left or the middle. And we need someone that excites voters in a swing state.

Beto doesn't fit the bill at all.

by Anonymousreply 157July 21, 2024 10:51 PM

[quote]Do you understand how senators are replaced if one resigns or dies?

It differs by state, so the answer to that is different depending on which Senator you want to select. Some may be less risky than others. Some are appointed by the governor, some trigger a special election, ... so look into the details before suggesting any Senator.

by Anonymousreply 158July 21, 2024 10:53 PM

A Senator from a swing state is a potentially a lost Senate seat and a Senator from a safe blue state is not helpful demographically.

by Anonymousreply 159July 21, 2024 10:57 PM

R156 is Beto.

by Anonymousreply 160July 21, 2024 11:07 PM

I think not!

by Anonymousreply 168July 21, 2024 11:25 PM

It won't be Mark Kelly. It will be someone younger. Andy Beshear has that southern wholesome charm that will appeal to a lot of moderates in the flyover states. Plus, he's very handsome. American politics are all about optics as well as policies, and he just looks ready-made to be VP. It will be him.

by Anonymousreply 169July 21, 2024 11:26 PM

[quote] Try thinking with more than your dick, [R169].

I am, dear. This is the time to ignite young voters, and all the names thrown out there of possible VPs are as old or older than Harris. Young people need to be energized to vote, and choosing someone old won't cut it for Gen Z. One of the biggest complaints you hear from Gen Z is that they're tired of seeing people old enough to be their great-grandfathers in leadership positions in Washington. Harris already appeals to younger people, and adding Beshear will be a plus for her campaign -- especially ensuring white working-class voters in the Midwest support her.

Kelly, Shapiro, Cooper, etc., would be the equivalent of HRC picking Tim Kaine.

Not that a ton of them will anyway, but we need SOME Of them to.

Ugh. I feel dirty for even bringing this up.

by Anonymousreply 185July 21, 2024 11:55 PM

She needs a VP that can appeal to voters in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada. That’s it. Please stop with the fantasies about young voters turning out in droves to support a young VP.

The only positive is that Vance was a bad choice for VP. Trump should have picked a woman or a black VP.

by Anonymousreply 186July 21, 2024 11:59 PM

Trump would've never picked a woman. In the end, Elmo and Thiel basically told him who to pick in order to get those checks. And give that both of them are neonazis, it was never gonna be a Black guy (or anyone non-Aryan), no matter what.

Wasn't that Hillary Clinton's reason for choosing Tim Kaine? And look how that turned out.

Young people (and women) were the reason for the high turnout during the 22 mid-terms, and they denied the Republicans their red wave. Stubborn eldergays like yourself refuse to live in the reality that the demographics have changed and still see elections as if we're still living in the 90s.

Josh Shapiro for the Pennsylvania swing state vote. He's popular in his state.

Is there any other rational possibility that hasn't been listed here yet, or will this thread just go on rehashing the same ones over and over?

by Anonymousreply 213July 22, 2024 2:22 AM

Ossoff is great but too new to the Senate (and politics) and with no national profile.

I love Shapiro but worry that being Jewish (read elitist) will work against him (and I'm Jewish).

Mark Kelly is too old and sad to say, not attractive enough (as shallow as that sounds).

Beshear is the clear winner here. Winning the Governorship (twice!) of Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul's state says everything you need to know about his popularity and appeal, especially to 20 and 30 somethings.

by Anonymousreply 221July 22, 2024 3:02 AM

R219, someone who is young, telegenic and never goes off script has the exact right qualifications for a veep slot, R219. That's why I think he would be the best choice.

It'll probably be Kelly, but if Kamala really wants this to be an election about generational change, Beshear or Shapiro are the smartest choices, and there are other good options like Ossoff and Buttigieg who could fill that role as well. Roy Cooper is too old, and North Carolina is always just slightly out of reach.

"Kamala Harris should be the next president," Cooper said Sunday on social media. I look forward to campaigning for her as we work to win NC up and down the ticket."

The VP pick must be a white male. There are three options:

Gov Andy Beshear of Kentucky. He is a rising star in the Democratic Party, although he won't help to win KY.

Gov Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and another rising star who would help to win PA, although the country may not vote for a black woman and a Jew on the same ticket.

Gov Roy Cooper of North Carolina would help the Dems win NC. He lacks charisma, but he may be the type to appeal to the voters of Michigan and Wisconsin.

By the way, Gov Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan is a no-go because two women on the same ticket won't sell.

My pick: I don't know yet, although Biden stepping down feels like a huge weight has been lifted. Today I feel that there is a great sense of renewal and optimism.

by Anonymousreply 232July 22, 2024 6:51 AM

Sen Mark Kelly of Arizona is a nonstarter. The Dems cannot afford to lose the Senate seat. The Repug AZ governor will appoint a Repug to fill the seat.

To play the devil's advocate, is it possible they want to see her locked in as the nominee first, before going at her full blare? Maybe they don't want to give the Dems an excuse to field what could be a stronger candidate?

VP's are meant to be the attack dog of the ticket. Beshear is too nice. You need the meanest bully on the block who strikes fear into the other side.

Mitch Landrieu, yep. Big Gretch, too. Newsom can cunt. So can Hakeem Jeffries, but we need him where he is. The rest on this list not so much. It's a hard brief to find a Democrat with the assholery of a Chris Christie, but that's what is needed here.

by Anonymousreply 267July 22, 2024 12:49 PM

Whitmer and Newsom are too big to be VP, they'd never play second fiddle to Kamala like that.

Once again re: Newsom

They're both from California.

by Anonymousreply 270July 22, 2024 12:55 PM

It's weird how everywhere else I see Buttigieg getting the most excitement, while here he's barely mentioned.

And I feel like Shapiro would alienate the millennials and gen-Zers who are all bent out of shape over Israel and Gaza and would provide a huge line of attack from the Left... unfair as that may be.

One thing I don't see being considered by any of you is that you don't want a VP that puts a target on Harris's back... there are a lot of racist, sexist sickos who would immediately seek to take her out so a straight white male could be in that spot. Buttigieg doesn't do that, for obvious reasons.

I'm also thinking a Hispanic male would be a great option demographically, but I'm not sure who would fit the bill or fit the qualifications.

by Anonymousreply 271July 22, 2024 3:09 PM

Shapiro is a very solid choice. It makes me laugh to think the idea that he's a Jew will make people not vote for Harris. We've already a black presidenrt and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. Do people really think people will not vote or vote for Dump simplyt because a Jew is on the ticket? That's absurd. Shapiro is also not a rabid pro-Israel supporter.

by Anonymousreply 272July 22, 2024 3:13 PM

Pennsylvania also voted for the Jewish guy. Before everyone says Pennsylvania is not the rest of the country, I would remind you that Pennsylvania--also sometimes known as Pennsyltucky--is about as indicative a cross-section of red and blue as you'll find in any state.

R275, I'd consider Generation Jones and Xennials to be sub-generations, but that's a minor distinction, and I do think they're real.

I think the problem with Kelly isn't where he sits precisely on the generational divide, it's that he looks older than his actual age while Kamala looks younger. It might not be fair, but optics do matter, and if one of the strengths of your campaign is generational change, a man who looks like the old guy from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul doesn't really deliver that message.

Andy Beshear—-Gov of Kentucky, love this dude but do we really want to pull a Democratic Gov out of KY?

Gov Whitmer—she already said No.

Roy Cooper—could help us win N. Carolina. Still Not feeling it

Josh Shapiro—he hands us Pennsylvania, that's the ballgame. He’s loved there. Strong possibility. He’s also Jewish though so here comes all the anti-semitic attacks

JD Pritzer—billionaire gov of Illinois…not feeling this. Im feeling too much billionaire baggage

Mark Kelly—-could hand us Arizona. Astronaut. Served our country. Gabby Giffords, his wife, brings a lot to the ticket because people love her…my number 1 pick

Wes Moore…sad to say, I know nothing about him. And honestly, two black people on the ticket? Come on. In this racist fucking country. I don't think he has any chance this round

by Anonymousreply 287July 22, 2024 5:43 PM

Of all the front runners: Whitaker, Beshear, Shapiro, Cooper, Cooper is the only candidate of them all to have run on the same ballot as Trump twice. Not only did he run on the same ballot, he won on the same ballot Trump won on, and got more votes than Trump both times in those statewide elections.

This proven ability to out compete Trump in a state which people may say is purple but has only elected a Democrat for president once in the last 7 presidential cycles, paired with the fact that they are, by Harris’s own words, old friends means that the smart money is on Cooper.

Kelly’s not going anywhere. He just got reelected and if he left, Katie Hobbs would appoint a replacement to serve until the next regularly scheduled election.

Considering how Kelly, who is by all accounts very popular and has great name recognition, only beat political newcomer Blake Masters by .22 of a percent, it’s too much of a gamble to pick him.

by Anonymousreply 292July 22, 2024 7:15 PM

R300,what are you talking about, getting it together? The Democratic Party platform, and particularly the opinions of the current POTUS and VPOTUS, haven’t changed. The vast majority of people are going to vote for one party or the other, no matter who the candidate is, and if you’re still undecided then there is plenty of time for Kamala to let you know what she believes in. Jim Clyburn in today's Newsweek article heralded Beshear, Shapiro and Cooper (all governors, Jim gets it) as the leading candidates for VP and I'd be surprised if Kamala went against his recs. I can't imagine it won't come down to Beshear and Shapiro.

I see Shapiro as the more dynamic personality of those two, but I think that's what could work against him. Kamala might benefit more with someone less fiery as a running mate and Beshear fits that to a T. And of course, he's not Jewish, which unfortunately might turn away some idiot voters. from Shapiro.

But I'm all for Beshear in any case.

by Anonymousreply 318July 22, 2024 11:44 PM

It will be Cooper. Shapiro doesn’t have the experience and Bashear is from a political dynasty in a state that Harris will never win.

Cooper is a friend of Kamala’s, they know one another well and have for a long time. Cooper also has a track record of successfully working with Republican legislatures and successfully getting Republicans to vote for him. He also has gotten more votes than Trump each time he’s run, on the same ticket, and the other two haven’t even been on the same ticket and even then haven’t gotten the number of votes got in their states that Trump did in 2020.

NC has almost as many electoral votes as PA and has been a state targeted by the Biden/Harris campaign as a state they think they can flip.

by Anonymousreply 319July 22, 2024 11:56 PM

Unless the VP can deliver a swing state, the choice has historically had very little impact on the race. She should pick Shapiro, Whitmer or Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 320July 23, 2024 12:01 AM

Shapiro is a total alpha. He'll destroy that little pussy Vance on the campaign trail.

by Anonymousreply 321July 23, 2024 12:07 AM

Whitmer has announced that she won't accept the VP if offered. Also, America is not ready for 2 women (sadly).

Stop suggesting her.

by Anonymousreply 322July 23, 2024 12:43 AM

So, will we soon be hearing of polls with these VP candidates, and will that determine who'll get it? Will Kamala follow the polls?

by Anonymousreply 323July 23, 2024 12:44 AM

[quote] It will be Cooper.

But Cooper is old. He's 67, and by the time it's his turn to run for president, he will be the same age as Biden. The Democratic Party is already mounting attacks against Trump for being the oldest presidential nominee in American history. Kamala Harris's campaign is signaling that this is a generational election moving away from old people at the top.

It's between Beshear and Shapiro, with Beshear being the likely person she'll pick.

by Anonymousreply 324July 23, 2024 1:12 AM

R324, not everyone who serves as vice president runs for President. As a matter of fact, Joe Biden was the first one in a quarter century to do so. Not every VP even serves two terms, in fact most in our history haven’t.

by Anonymousreply 325July 23, 2024 1:16 AM

Cooper seems like a good guy, and he is obviously a great campaigner at the state level, but he isn't an exciting speaker (as Tom Kaine isn't). They need to fire on all cylinders for the next 3 months.

by Anonymousreply 326July 23, 2024 1:18 AM

I posted this elsewhere and I’ll post it again here.

Bashearnis acting like a man auditioning for a job. He’s been on two or three networks today. Roy Cooper is acting like a man who has a job offer, or at least knows what the potential employer is thinking. He went on Morning Joe early and said:

[quote] "I appreciate people talking about me, but I think the focus right now needs to be on her this week," Cooper said. "And she needs to concentrate on making sure that she secures his nomination and gets the campaign ready to go. The vice presidential conversation needs to occur later."

I also pointed out that of all of the list of front runners, Cooper alone has most certainly been talking with the Biden/Harris campaign about a cabinet position for most of the last year. All of the others are still serving their terms and the Biden/Harris campaign would have wanted them to stay put rather than risk a loss in a special election. One assumes the thinking of the Harris campaign is very much like the thinking of the Biden campaign on that front.

Yeah, I have to admit, he came off a little anxious in that interview, which is odd because I've seen him in other interviews, and he was more relaxed.

I still think Harris will pick him because he checks all the boxes: He's young, white, male, attractive, wholesome, and has a bit of a southern drawl. He has that appeal that white middle-class suburbanites like.

The only reason why it won't be Shapiro is because of his response to the campus protest regarding the war in Israel. Harris wants to attract younger voters, and they're already energized and like her (she has a ton of memes on TikTok). Picking Shapiro will turn them off.

Pritzker just seems like a bad idea on numerous levels. He's the Dem version of Chris Christie.

by Anonymousreply 361July 23, 2024 3:09 PM

I could see Shapiro or Pritzker being passed over because of the far left brat voters who worship at the feet of dumb twats like AOC, Rashida Slob, Ilhan Omar etc.

Who ever she chooses has to reassure people. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan was asked by Dana Bash today, if she had any ideas about a possible VP choice and she said, "Well, you know we have been looking at two men leading the ticket since forever, so I don't see why we can't have two women..." But she named no names... I'm looking at you Gretch!

by Anonymousreply 365July 23, 2024 4:56 PM

Not possible to win with 2 women. Sad but true

by Anonymousreply 367July 23, 2024 5:08 PM

Any sense at all of when the VP pick will be announced? Has there been any indication of a timeline on this? A week? A month?

by Anonymousreply 368July 23, 2024 5:10 PM

Weeks not months

by Anonymousreply 369July 23, 2024 5:18 PM

this week.

by Anonymousreply 370July 23, 2024 5:25 PM

R368 Two ways to think of the timeline.

One: before the roll call vote (online, one the phone, before the convention on Aug 19). A "ticket" nominated.

Two: announced and voted on at the convention on Aug 19.

I am thinking it's #2 because 1) there is so little time to vet the potential nominees, god forbid someone is chosen and there are scandals/secrets found out later and 2) the "suspense" would be good TV for the convention.

by Anonymousreply 371July 23, 2024 5:32 PM

Apparently it's between Kelly, Shapiro, and Cooper. I think Kelly ticks the most boxes and it would be an amazing feel-good story to get him and Gabby out there. Drown out the toxic misery of Dump and the Repugs and show what a real American hero looks like. Appealing to both men and women.

Another vote for Roy Cooper. He should bring in the votes for North Carolina. The only drawback could be his age. He's 67.

it will not be the jewish guy. that's not a risk to take.

by Anonymousreply 374July 23, 2024 5:52 PM

But he's a very well perserved and good looking 67. I'd go with him or Kelly. Keep Shapiro in PA.

by Anonymousreply 375July 23, 2024 6:30 PM

Gen X will vote Trump if there’s not an Xer on this ticket. It’s beyond time. Shapiro.

by Anonymousreply 376July 23, 2024 6:32 PM

Chuck Todd was just on MSNBC and these were his thoughts:

Mark Kelly, Andy Beshear and Josh Shapiro are the best candidates for VP. He said that Kelly brings the most to the table and is probably the top pick right now. Beshear is in second place, since he successfully won two grueling campaigns for governor in a red state. He said that Shapiro may not have enough experience as he has only served for two years.

He thinks Harris should wait till after the Olympics before announcing her choice. Let the country get to know her first. Plus, the speculation is fun.

Chuck thinks she should hold talks with Liz Cheney to send a message to Never-Trumpers and Independents that she want their votes. Todd sees Cheney getting a role in a Harris administration. I'd love to see her meet with Nikki Haley and Mitt Romney, too. Trump's head would explode.

Enough with this bullshit that Shapiro being Jewish is a liability. He's a very popular governor in a crucial swing state, and he has not expressed any pro-Israel sentiment that would get in his way. So knock it off.

by Anonymousreply 379July 23, 2024 6:55 PM

[quote] Chuck thinks she should hold talks with Liz Cheney to send a message to Never-Trumpers and Independents that she want their votes. Todd sees Cheney getting a role in a Harris administration. I'd love to see her meet with Nikki Haley and Mitt Romney, too.

Chuck Todd is the Aaron Sorkin of punditry. Good lord, this is stupid. Nikki Haley has already endorsed Trump. Mitt Romney is retiring. And Liz Cheney is still a Republican, despite her anti-Trumpism. Harris already has the anti-Trump Republicans in her corner, she doesn't need these three for anything.

I'd also be fine with Cooper. In that order.

by Anonymousreply 382July 23, 2024 7:23 PM

Considering how stupid Democrats are to get behind a candidate like Kamala that 75% of the country thinks she's a dork (even Black voters don't care much for her), I wouldn't be surprised if they picked another woman or Beto O'Rourke to complete the idiot ticket and hand the elections over to the Orange Menace without a hitch.

R383 thinks in her infinite wisdom that Biden, who was told by his personal polling team that any path to defeating Dump was "gone" (to quote them, as reported in the Times) and that there was the very real danger that Democrats would lose both houses of Congress, that we were better with Biden--even though Harris was polling slightly higher against Dump than Biden in four different polls.

R383=braintrust. and the fact that Miss R383 uses the word "dork" makes her sound like a MAGAt troll. At any rate, FF to you, CUNT.

by Anonymousreply 387July 23, 2024 7:37 PM

[quote] (even Black voters don't care much for her)

R383 is lying through her teeth. Black women raised many, many millions of dollars for Harris on Sunday night alone.

by Anonymousreply 388July 23, 2024 7:38 PM

[quote]Todd sees Cheney getting a role in a Harris administration.

No. Cheney’s whole schtick was preventing Trump from being elected. Once Kamala wins, there’s no role for Cheney. She’s a hard-core conservative, anti-choice, pro-gun, pro-Bible right wing nut job. Kamala needs to tell her to get lost.

by Anonymousreply 389July 23, 2024 7:39 PM

We're going to see a lot of cunt trolls like R383 on DL threads until Election Day--or not see them, meaning BLOCK.

by Anonymousreply 390July 23, 2024 7:42 PM

Kelly has accomplished a lot without family connections and Arizona is a swing state, but Beshear has more political experience and is, I think, the better speaker. On balance, I'd bet they'll pick Kelly; either of them will bring some great assets to the campaign.

by Anonymousreply 391July 23, 2024 7:46 PM

I'm not interested at all in any faux-concern trolls like R383. They're liars about their true intentions here. Blocked.

Anyone else who continues to drag Harris and say Biden was our only chance against Biden will also be blocked. Life is too short, even on DL, to put up with these cunts. We'll win the election or lose it, but we're going forward with a 20-year-younger, tough-as-nails prosecutor who knows exactly what to say and how to say it.

And saving either or both houses of Congress is also crucial, going forward. I loved Biden and think he did a great job saving the country from Dump, but I did not want to see him then tarnish his legacy and lose to that fucking traitor. Better to run Harris and possibly lose than the indignity of seeing Joe lose to Cheetolini.

by Anonymousreply 392July 23, 2024 7:50 PM

I think she needs to move fast on this. The sooner they have a solid team and a positive message the better. Time is running out.

WHY would anyone want to see her meet with that idiot Nikki Haley?

by Anonymousreply 396July 23, 2024 8:15 PM

They are vetting the top 2/3 candidates as we speak. They also shouldn't move so quickly that they choose someone who ends being a liability. I am sure Shapiro is a great guy, but if there is anything that causes the Free Palestine bunch to get their panties in a bunch and refuse to vote, better to find out before it's too late.

by Anonymousreply 397July 23, 2024 8:17 PM

That's why they're vetting him and all of them, r397.

That's what vetting means. Figuring out who they are and how they come c=across. Kamala should take the time she needs.

by Anonymousreply 398July 23, 2024 9:30 PM

Cheney can do something in regards to election integrity or rooting out domestic terrorists and insurrectionists. A role can be found for her. Amash can be our diplomat to Palestine.

by Anonymousreply 399July 23, 2024 9:32 PM

How did they fuck up vetting Sara Palin? She did have great media presence, but when you scratched the surface she was a hillbilly idiot. One of the OG maga (tea-party)

by Anonymousreply 405July 23, 2024 10:54 PM

I'm gonna say it again: We are now in uncharted territory (thank you, Dump & MAGATs) and recent history has no bearing on what's to come. First of all, there's a BIPOC woman running for President against a convicted felon, rapist and outright liar.

Life has radically changed, and it makes no difference what happened 10, 20, 30 years ago. There's no real comparison. It's about as relevant as Martin van Buren's 1837 bid for the Presidency.

by Anonymousreply 406July 23, 2024 10:57 PM

It's been over 60 years since a vice presidential choice helped to win his or her home state, so that should probably not be the deciding factor in any pick.

by Anonymousreply 410July 23, 2024 11:08 PM

R410, Shapiro has an excellent chance of winning Pa for Harris. He's very popular and was elected in a landslide.

What SHOULD be the deciding factor?

by Anonymousreply 411July 24, 2024 12:26 AM

R411, as a inveterate political junkie, I love this regular parlor game more than most, but there's little empirical evidence that people vote on the basis of the vice presidential candidate.

by Anonymousreply 412July 24, 2024 12:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 414July 24, 2024 1:08 AM

Ron Brownstein, who, as he surveys the Blue Wall states, doesn't exactly paint the rosiest prospects for a Harris win, is urging Whitmer, but thinks it'll come down to Shapiro or Kelly. He thinks Shapiro makes more sense because Harris needs more help in winning Pennsylvania than she does in taking Arizona.

Chasten is really pushing Pete to get out there and campaign for Kamala, and to secure a cushy job in her administration. He's not about to move back to tacky Indiana now that he's tasted the good life. Chasten wants a big house in McClean, VA with a pool and close proximity to an equestrian club.

One of my favorite photos was Chasten and Doug Enhoff together during the 2000 election. They are all good friends.

by Anonymousreply 418July 24, 2024 1:23 AM

I think we need to think beyond the election to consider what kinds of strengths a VP will bring. For Obama, it was obvious what Biden brought to the table. His vast experience and knowledge of Congress, especially the Senate, and his understanding of government, in terms of the process and how things get done. Obama was a one term Senator with limited foreign policy experience. Joe knew foreign policy inside out t oo.

For Kamala, I think she will need help with Congress. It is one thing to list all the things you want to do. But getting them done will be no easy task. JFK would have been lost without LBJ. OBama would have been lost without Joe Biden. Jimmy Carter was pretty much a disaster with Congress and things would have been much worse without the very likeable, very experienced Walter Mondale. Gore was a huge help to Bill Clinton.

So who does Kamala choose who can really help with that? Mitch Landrieu. He's already on Biden's WH staff. Whether she chooses him for VP or not, I hope he decides to stick around. She'd be a fool to let him go. I think Pete needs to be part of her administration, too. And She needs someone great at Treasury. Yellen has been very effective. An Environmentalist like Jay Inslee at Interior. A real advocate who is knowledgeable and creative in Housing, and her HHS person better be prepared to expand Medicare. I hope Blinken sticks around for at least another year or two to transition to a new SoS, and she needs someone better than we have now for Defense and CIA. Maybe appoint Joe U.S. ambassador to Ireland?

by Anonymousreply 419July 24, 2024 1:35 AM

"That's what vetting means."

They vetted me. It was incredible. They said they'd never seen someone pass with such flying colors. Everyone said so. I did nothing wrong.

by Anonymousreply 420July 24, 2024 1:35 AM

R414, Pete has been out on all of those shows because he’s one of the best communicators the Democrats have and seems to be one of the few who doesn’t mind doing it with less than friendly outlets.

R415, I don’t know really how much weight to give a conservative leaning journalist’s comments conservative group’s new site about traditionally blue states. A horse race is good for them, if Dems thinks they can actually win it they might stop giving these poloticos without a party money.

by Anonymousreply 421July 24, 2024 1:37 AM

[quote]Maybe appoint Joe U.S. ambassador to Ireland?

I wasn't around to post over the weekend with all the news, but I could definitely see a continued, limited role for Joe in a future Harris Administration, perhaps in foreign policy issues where he excels and has tons of experience. An Ambassadorship, if he's up to it, or Special Envoy status to help out in specific global hot spots.

by Anonymousreply 422July 24, 2024 1:39 AM

r416 If any of that was true, he would be pushing for Pete to get out of politics and get a better paying job. Government work doesn't pay that well unless you are getting gold bars from foreign lobbyists.

by Anonymousreply 423July 24, 2024 1:43 AM

[quote] I don’t know really how much weight to give a conservative leaning journalist’s comments

I don't know with whom you're confusing Ron Brownstein, but he is a longtime liberal/anti-Trump commentator. And he makes a very good point about Harris's difficulties with older whites &, most particularly, the blue collar whites who are heavily represented in the Blue Wall states. Biden did 5% better than Clinton and that was dispositive.

Brownstein noted that Harris will be more competitive than was Biden 2024 in the Sunbelt swing states (Georgia, Arizona & Nevada) He questions, though, whether she can bring them back into play because the hole Biden left behind is pretty substantial. If Harris can't win Georgia, or Arizona & Nevada, she is, he said, in the same place as Biden in needing to sweep the Blue Wall states (& Nebraska-2). But, he added, these states are not built as much for her demographic strengths.

He talks about how Harris can replace Wisconsin (90% white, 55%-60% non-college educated) with Arizona (definitely the best of her options among the Sunbelt states). And how she can replace Michigan (80% white) with Arizona & Nevada. If she loses Pennsylvania (80% white) she'll need to take Georgia & Arizona or Georgia & Nevada. For Harris to keep these Blue Wall states, she will need to squeeze out bigger Black turnout & votes (along with that of white collar whites & younger voters).

by Anonymousreply 426July 24, 2024 2:35 AM

I would trust Pete the most to take over as POTUS.

by Anonymousreply 427July 24, 2024 2:39 AM

I live in Arizona, and Mark Kelly would be very good on the ticket. He’s a white man (will draw in people who don’t quite trust a woman in the big job), a Navy fighter pilot, and a freaking astronaut. Due to the assassination attempt on his wife he can speak quite eloquently on gun issues. He is a senator in a border state who is very popular with Latinos, a group that has been drifting away from the Dems. And Arizona is a swing state that he can bring home for the ticket. And the Arizona constitution says that if a Senator leaves office before his/her term is complete a member of that Senator’s,party must be appointed as a replacement.

by Anonymousreply 428July 24, 2024 2:51 AM

A moot point about a Kelly replacement, R 428, as the Arizona governor is a Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 429July 24, 2024 3:11 AM

R426, I was not familiar with him but his Long association with The LA Times, a historically conservative leaning outlet, made me think that he’s likely not the most liberal guy in the world. Maybe I’m wrong, and maybe he’s like James Carville who is happily married to a conservative political operative, but the Bulwark is certainly a conservative news outfit, anti-Trump or not.

by Anonymousreply 436July 24, 2024 4:17 AM

Kamala did not do well with Blacks in the 2020 primaries, but she was still a relative unknown and it was a crowded field led by the Obama’s VP. Being a former prosecutor as the BLM movement was gaining steam didn’t help either.

She’s spent the last four years, among other things, doing outreach to the Black community and strengthening her ties to the Black Greek system through her membership in AKA which has helped immensely with her favorability ratings in the Black community.

by Anonymousreply 437July 24, 2024 4:21 AM

R437, was the BLM movement gaining steam by the end of 2019, when Harris suspended her campaign, before any votes were cast? And the early votes then were in lily white Iowa & NH.

by Anonymousreply 438July 24, 2024 6:08 AM

It will be Beshear.

He has Midwest/South appeal the others don't.

We've gotta have the Vance/Beshear hick vs. hick VP debate to really convince swing voters why they should vote Democratic/progressive — that "family values" don't mean the Handmaid's Tale and turning the clock back to the 1920s.

by Anonymousreply 439July 24, 2024 6:20 AM

She should announce at the convention, Draw it out to keep the interest on Dems and keep Trump off balance.

by Anonymousreply 440July 24, 2024 6:43 AM

She’s nuts not to pick Beshear. He comes from a very popular political family in the Bluegrass state, and it’s like he was made in a lab for this moment. He’s used to dealing directly with a very hostile opposition and winning against the grain of his state.

Most importantly he is young. Read the room. That’s what people are screaming for. I really like Roy Cooper, but his age is a factor. If they win two terms, he will be 75 when it’s ’his turn’, and we’ll be right back with the same issue.

Kentucky is unique in that’s it’s a Midwest/Southern blend as mentioned by R439. He can appeal to two Red regions simultaneously. Louisville has more in common historically and culturally with Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and St Louis than it does with Atlanta.

Andy is right there Kamala, snatch him up!

by Anonymousreply 441July 24, 2024 7:14 AM

I do find it telling that Cooper and Shapiro are the only ones not feeling the need to be all over tv.

by Anonymousreply 442July 24, 2024 7:25 AM

Cooper is almost 70, and can't leave NC (often) because of the nut job Lt. Gov, no?

by Anonymousreply 443July 24, 2024 7:43 AM

R438, BLM was started in 2013 after the acquittal of George Zimmerman and gained momentum resulting in hundreds and hundreds of protests across the U.S. leading up to the nationwide mass protests in the summer of 2020. It was already such a large movement by 2017 that four of the most famous athletes in the country: Lebron James, Chris Paul, Dewayne Wade, and Carmelo Anthony opened the ESPY awards, the Oscars of sports, with a BLM message. By the end of 2019 the NFL had just finished dealing with the players who kneeled during the National anthem and Colin Kaepernick had just settled his suit against the NFL for collusion.

In short, yes the BLM movement was nearing its zenith right around the time Kamala was seeking the 2020 Democratic nomination.

[quote] If they win two terms, he will be 75 when it’s ’his turn’, and we’ll be right back with the same issue.

R441, not all VPs run for President, or even serve two terms. In spite of being a hugely successful politician, never losing a race in his career, he has always said he’s not interested in being President and I believe him. That said, he is at heart a public servant and will take any role Harris thinks she’s needs him for. He is, of all of the suggested picks, the only one who has proven ability to outperform Trump in a reddest of purples state.

R443, what you mention has been brought up here in N.C. but because the legislature is adjourned, and couldn’t generate new bills even if it was, Cooper won’t be needed to veto any legislation. The N.C. Governor is otherwise a relatively weak executive and other than issuing non-binding proclamations the Lt. Governor wouldn’t be able to wreak any havoc as acting Governor while Cooper was out of the state. This was illustrated recently when Cooper traveled to Japan to meet with Abe and all he was able to do was issue a proclamation stating support for Israel in its war against Hamas.

The New Republic has a column today saying that Shapiro is the one VP pick who could ruin Democratic unity.

by Anonymousreply 455July 24, 2024 3:29 PM

In the end, people vote for the presidential candidate, not the vice-presidential candidate.

by Anonymousreply 456July 24, 2024 4:42 PM

That's been said and said, R456. But choosing a VP from a crucial swing state who is popular in their state CAN ONLY HELP.

Can we put that to rest now?

by Anonymousreply 457July 24, 2024 5:40 PM

no, this will be like the folks on here recasting follies or dreamgirls.

You're right. Gore lost NC in 2000 by 12.83%; Kerry, with Tar Heel Senator John Edwards as his running mate, whittled that loss down to 12.44%.

by Anonymousreply 459July 24, 2024 7:37 PM

A friend claims it will be Walz from Minnesota. She got the intel from “an insider” but then did the shrug emoji, so take it with a truckload of salt.

by Anonymousreply 462July 24, 2024 8:28 PM

R461, you must not hang out in Gen Z spaces - TikTok, Reddit...they are obsessed with Palestine.

I also think Shapiro might be a little too nerdy for the Joe Sixpack types. I think Mark Kelly has more broad appeal.

by Anonymousreply 463July 24, 2024 8:34 PM

Shapiro's stance on Israel helps him in PA, but hurts him in Michigan.

by Anonymousreply 464July 24, 2024 8:37 PM

No, I don't even have accounts with any of those sites, R463. And they are a fringe minority of voters.

by Anonymousreply 465July 24, 2024 8:38 PM

"Oh, gee--a Jew (who never even sided with Netanyahu) is going to be the VP? Well, then, I won't vote!"

Meh. They're fringe and we should know better than to give a flying fuck about them.

by Anonymousreply 466July 24, 2024 8:40 PM

[quote] In a screed for The New Republic, David Klion complained that “Shapiro stands out among the current field of potential running mates as being egregiously bad on Palestine,” and “is an observant Jew with personal ties to Israel.”

I and others told you so, that the Jew-hating faction of the Democratic Party is large enough to block Shapiro.

SCOOP: CBS News has learned that the Harris campaign is considering approximately 12 individuals for her VP pick – a larger number than previously reported.

The list includes: -Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro -North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper -Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear -Minnesota Governor Tim Walz -Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker -Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer -Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg -Arizona Senator Mark Kelly -Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo

The Harris campaign is also looking at individuals who do not currently hold elected office, according to our source.

by Anonymousreply 469July 24, 2024 8:49 PM

R138 Look how well that turned out for Hilary. I can’t believe Trump is getting elected into office twice with the help of a WOMAN. Fuck this shit.

That’s way too many to start with. It’s not like picking out all the possible outfits to take on a cruise.

by Anonymousreply 478July 24, 2024 8:58 PM

I don't think she's seriously considering all twelve to be her running mate, R478. The Harris campaign probably knows it's down to the three or four top choices, but there's no harm in vetting some lesser choices anyway, since they might make good cabinet picks in a few months and will already be cleared.

by Anonymousreply 479July 24, 2024 9:04 PM

I think the twelve are being sorta vetted and organized as "surrogates" on the campaign trail. I think the two off-the-charts pics who are not currently elected are Gina Raimondo, Sec of Commerce and Stanley McChrystal, the Heap Big General, whom Obama canned when he talked smack about Biden.

Raimondo is very interesting. And if the Harris campaign really wants to shake things up and defy the usual wisdom, Raidmondo and "two women" could get her the Oscar. Raimondo is very, very impressive.

Unlikely to happen, but if the internal numbers still look like it's a lock for Trump, then why not swing for the fences.

by Anonymousreply 480July 24, 2024 9:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 482July 24, 2024 9:26 PM

If two women are considered, it should be Gretchen Whitmer and the 15 EVs.

by Anonymousreply 483July 24, 2024 9:28 PM

If she picks a woman, then it will be Whitmer because of Michigan's electoral votes and her higher profile. Don't pay attention to what Whitmer said about not wanting it. If she's offered the job, then she will most likely accept.

by Anonymousreply 487July 24, 2024 9:37 PM

Shapiro will lose the youth vote, and there will be pro-Palestine protests against him at rallies. That's the last thing we need right now. We desperately need the youth vote right now. I think Shapiro is fading fast, especially because Netanyahu's speech to Congress today has reignited the whole conflict again. Ugh. He was my favorite, but I don't know now. Kelly and Whitmer are now the favorites.

by Anonymousreply 488July 24, 2024 9:43 PM

It won't be Kelly because we need that Senate seat in Arizona. And while AZ has a Dem governor, I don't put it past the MAGAts there to pull some type of legal shenanigans to take that seat.

It won't be Whitmer, as they will consider it too risky for two women to be on the ticket.

It will be Beshear. He's the safest choice and has that wholesome image that many find appealing among middle-class and working-class whites.

by Anonymousreply 489July 24, 2024 9:47 PM

Throwing away Pennsylvania's electoral votes which Shapiro will deliver to appease some terrorist sympathizers who aren't going to show up on Election Day anyway is very foolish.

I agree, R482, which is why my money is on Cooper. They’ve been friends since before Kamala was in the Senate and have campaigned together a lot.

While you can postulate about the suitability of Bashear because of his age and suitability to run for President and after two Harris terms, I think that’s getting a bit to far over your skis.

Cooper is the only one of the suggested picks who has a proven track record of outperforming Trump on the same ballot, twice. And while Bashear almost certainly can’t deliver KY, Cooper’s average outperformance over Trump is more than enough to swing N.C. to the blue column if Harris can get as many votes as Biden did in 2020 in N.C.

by Anonymousreply 510July 25, 2024 1:19 AM

Poor forgotten Tim Kaine. Sweet man and good Senator fighting for reelection right now.

But choosing him as VP was one of Hillary's blunders. He did not come off well against the polished, icy closet-case Pence. And came off as soft, and yes, very gay to the straight male voters he was supposed to attract.

He's lost a ton of weight and looks much better and healthier now.

I would totally suck him off. I love furry Irish daddybears,.

Which really means just Shapiro and Kelly, same as the consensus on DL.

by Anonymousreply 518July 25, 2024 12:52 PM

Axelrod being a Kamala skeptic tracks with there being rumors of underlying drama between the Bidens and Obamas as well as the fact that Obama hasn’t yet endorsed Harris.

by Anonymousreply 519July 25, 2024 1:59 PM

Listening to a slew of podcasts as I have, R519, I’ve heard a number of similarly situated Trump-hating pols & pundits who are not exactly bullish on her Electoral College chances.

by Anonymousreply 520July 25, 2024 2:07 PM

Shapiro and Kelly are the only choices that make sense.

Axelrod has basically been a Republican since Obama left office. I can't remember the last time I heard him say a good word about Democrats or their political chances,, even though Democrats have won almost every election since 2016. He thought there would be a blue wave in 2022. He's been wrong about everything, like most of the CNN pundits.

by Anonymousreply 524July 25, 2024 5:01 PM

I'm sorry. But IMO the Extreme Right isj ust waiting for her to choose Shapiro of PA. They can resurrect all the hateful Palestinian rhetoric and target him, and make sure there are disruptive demonstrations several times a week. Bought and paid for courtesy of Vladimir Putin. They will use the nomination to be as disruptive as possible. It doesn't matter how effective Shapiro is or how well he does in PA. He will not do well in Michigan, Ohio, or Wisconsin, and forget about Georgia. The other thing to consider is, do we want to spend all our time on Shapiro being JEwish, and the Israel/Palestine conflict, or do we want to talk about the policies and programs that win for us? And IMO, again, Mark Kelly is her Tim Kaine. He seems like a good idea right now, but, no.

R528, it’s not been decided by the courts but all signs point to yes, possibly.

PITTSBURGH — Republicans increasingly see one of the Democrats under consideration to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate as the most likely to offer her a boost and make their efforts trickier: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

These Republicans say that Shapiro, a first-term governor of a critical swing state, is someone who could help broaden Harris’ appeal with independent voters and traditional Democrats who are drifting away from the party, and help win over his home state — the most pivotal battleground on the presidential map, in their view.

In Shapiro, they see a governor who not only won in a 2022 landslide over state Sen. Doug Mastriano but is well regarded as an effective campaigner and messenger who has not totally alienated Pennsylvania Republicans in the process.

“I just think Shapiro is super strong,” one ally of former President Donald Trump said. “And Republicans should be concerned about it. If I were her, that would be the pick.”

This person added that Shapiro has avoided blistering attacks from Republican counterparts “because he’s actually pretty moderate,” adding that the governor, an observant Jew, could speak to disaffected voters of faith who years ago voted for Democrats but now feel detached from the party — and might even be a stronger candidate than Harris.

“Shapiro creates a super interesting dynamic,” this person added.

A second Trump ally said that while they did not view Shapiro as a moderate, they saw his “really nonthreatening” persona as having boosted his credibility with independents and Republicans. This person added that Shapiro is “the one that does the most to help her.”

by Anonymousreply 540July 25, 2024 8:16 PM

r537 She's actually Gen X, which I believe began with those born '64-'65 or later. She was born in late 1964, I'd put her at the very beginning of Gen X - she seems like she fits into that group more than the Boomers.

by Anonymousreply 541July 25, 2024 8:21 PM

Shapiro is a great campaigner. He's smart, quick-witted, handsome, commanding, very charming. Which also works against him. Kamala should be the only star. Shapiro would make a great candidate for President, but his talents would be wasted as VP. And we need him to stay in Pennsylvania. Any votes he could deliver on the ticket he can still deliver staying right where he is.

Mark Kelly is stable, predictable, kind of bland. He's married to a well-known victim of gun violence, he's got that astronaut thing going for him, (I happen to love his blue eyes!). He'd be a better VP than Shapiro (who would make a better POTUS).

There is a difference.

My 1st choice had been Shapiro. After some thought, I'd now go with Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 542July 25, 2024 8:44 PM

Everybody is so over the pro-Palestine protestors that I think Shapiro's chances just rose again. The public has had enough after the horrible protests in DC this week.

by Anonymousreply 543July 25, 2024 8:59 PM

Kelly would also drive Putin crazy. He is a major advocate for Ukraine and helped Ukraine get F-16s (he even helped train the pilots!) I don't think he is bland at all, just maybe not the most eloquent speaker.

by Anonymousreply 544July 25, 2024 9:03 PM

Beshear won't be picked because he's unknown outside of Kentucky. They already have to reintroduce Kamala to the country in just a few months, so they don't time to also introduce a running mate to the country, too. And he adds nothing electorally to the ticket. Beshear is not going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 545July 25, 2024 9:11 PM

R536: yeah, why?

by Anonymousreply 546July 25, 2024 9:23 PM

Well ACTUALLY R541, and I swear I’m not really one of those well actually people, Scouts’ honor, she’s at the tail end of the demi-cohort called Generation Jones, sandwiched in the decade between the Boomers and the Xers, 1953 to 1964.

Born during the economic boom between the end of the Korean War and the start of the Vietnam War in earnest, the Joneses came of age during the shift of many jobs from manufacturing to service, stagflation, and the oil crisis to then start their adult lives as AIDS hit, inflation shot up, and interest rates were north of 12%.

While Cooper is my first choice, I’d be perfectly happy with Kelly. He’s just cosponsored a bill with Sen. Tom Tillis to reduce the price of blood plasma-based pharmaceutical products, so he’s get stuff done and doing it across the aisle. He also is able to confront the gun issue with little serious criticism because of his wife’s shooting combined with his military experience.

I don’t know if he’s doing a lot of media, like Bashear and a few others, or if he’s keeping his head down and his cards close to his chest like Cooper. I suspect the latter.

Speaking of Roy, he’s not doing a press tour but instead is campaigning around NC for Kamala, hopefully whipping up votes to flip the state.

[quote] "There are a lot of people that she can choose," Cooper said. "She's going to make the right choice. I just want her to choose the person that gets the best chance to win."

by Anonymousreply 547July 25, 2024 9:41 PM

R557 Cooper is too old and runs counter to Kamala's campaign message of generational change.

Where the GOP choice of Vance shows that they're ready to mentor millennials and younger for leadership, choosing Boomer Cooper further shows that the Dems have zero interest in engaging the younger generations

I think Beshear is the best bet. He has more executive experience and isn't old or weird looking like Mark Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 557July 25, 2024 11:06 PM

Beshear would do fine. My concern is this. Do we want to allow the GOP to distract voters with t urbulence about Israel, and demonstrations for Palestine? Yes, they will instigate and finance expanded demonstrations. Or do we want to continue to build momentum on the future and kitchen table issues which we can win with. Because the GOP is really terrified we will talk about Projectv2025 and their record and their plans for the future. And compare that to our record and our plans for the future. All the talk about them being scared of Shapiro is a feint. Don't believe it. Do not let them trap her.Beshear or Whitmer are her winners. She needs to Midwest. And BeShear will do fine in the Midwest and in Georgia...... And he's adorable.

by Anonymousreply 558July 25, 2024 11:26 PM

Meaningless R555

by Anonymousreply 559July 25, 2024 11:37 PM

Why aren’t those kids protesting Dump’s Palestine position?

Are they dumb? He just said he’d let Netanyahoo do whatever the fuck he wants - including razing the whole place to the ground and supply the weapons to do it.

Do they not care about that? Or figure the thugs would ignore them anyway, so they just punish the very people who might be able to help them get what they want?

Srsly, they seem “special”.

by Anonymousreply 560July 26, 2024 12:01 AM

Shapiro and Beshear's presidential plans are kind of screwed if Kamala wins. That means they would have to wait until 2032 to run for president. It's no secret that both of them have presidential ambitions. In 8 years, they will be older and less desirable, not to mention new shiny candidates will come along in the meantime. Being VP may be the closest that either one of them gets to the White House. I think that's why all the candidates are fighting so hard for the job.

by Anonymousreply 561July 26, 2024 12:05 AM

Pete is the son-in-law white suburbanites wish they had. They loved him in IA and NH.

by Anonymousreply 562July 26, 2024 12:07 AM

No one is really giving any reasons not to make Beshear first choice for VP. He's no more unknown to Americans than any of the competition.

I'd never even heard of Walz or Cooper before last week and I watch the news constantly. However, I was aware of Beshear because of his fierce and very public stance on abortion rights.

Sadly, Shapiro being Jewish is bad timing right now (and I'm Jewish). Having a Jewish First Gent will be quite enough for a lot of Americans.

by Anonymousreply 563July 26, 2024 12:31 AM

Astronaut trumps Hebe.

by Anonymousreply 564July 26, 2024 12:35 AM

Mark Halperin's been thinking it was Kelly, every day, all the way. Until today. He now thinks Shapiro is the favorite, with a mystery person - Buttigieg, he said - number two, and Kelly, number three. Since he mentioned this big shift in his thinking in the context of vetting issues, it appears there's something troubling in Kelly's background.

by Anonymousreply 565July 26, 2024 12:40 AM

I remember when everyone thought Joe Biden would pick Whitmer, Warren, or Klobuchar as his vice president in 2020. Those were the three names thrown around the most in the media. Many here scoffed at the idea that Harris was under consideration and how Biden would lose if he picked her. Look how that turned out.

Politically speaking, Beshear is a young, attractive WASP who is massively popular in one of the reddest states in the union and makes the most sense out of all the names out there. And if he ran for president in 2032, he would only be in his mid-50s.

[quote] However, I was aware of Beshear because of his fierce and very public stance on abortion rights.

Same. I also became aware of Beshear because he stood up for the teacher's union in Kentucky. I live in Wisconsin, and many here are familiar with him. He would certainly help win Wisconsin for Harris.

by Anonymousreply 566July 26, 2024 12:47 AM

Is Halperin a trustworthy person? He works for Newsmax...ew

by Anonymousreply 567July 26, 2024 12:49 AM

Mark Halperin is a discredited sex pest who has ZERO credibility. I don't know why anyone here would quote him as some source of truth.

by Anonymousreply 568July 26, 2024 12:51 AM

On Halperin:

[quote] The Washington Post's Dana Milbank called Halperin's analysis in the 2016 United States presidential campaign "soulless" and "amoral", citing several instances when Halperin praised Republican nominee Donald Trump. Milbank noted that Halperin had declared on Morning Joe in March 2016 that Trump was "one of the two most talented presidential candidates any of us have covered." Earlier, in January 2020, also on “Morning Joe,” Halperin said Trump’s attacks on the Clintons were “politically brilliant.” In June 2016, on his Bloomberg TV show, With All Due Respect, Milbank noted Halperin asserted that "it's not racial" for Trump to attempt to disqualify an Indiana-born federal judge as a "Mexican" because of his ancestry. His reason: "Mexico isn't a race."

Stop bringing up this bootlicking asshole as if he brings any value to this conversation.

by Anonymousreply 569July 26, 2024 12:57 AM

The likes of Joe Scarborough, Eleanor Clift & Jill Abrahamson, the former executive editor of the NYT, are regulars on Halperin's daily calls.

I've always thought Halperin & Al Franken were two who got bad MeToo# raps. In Halperin's case, his offenses long proceeded the movement, he received treatment long before the movement & there was no evidence of recidivism. Along with his former writing partner, he was an acclaimed political analyst before he was exiled. He's not nearly as partisan as Heilemann, but he has some worthy insights.

Look. Everyone wanted to be Joe Biden's VP because he was old. But the reality has always been that almost any VP is best positioned,no matter if it's 4 years or 8. What counts is how successful the administration is. Joe is a huge success. So Kamala has that to boost her. And if she stays the course and follows the path Joe set for her,we will continue to grow. She will be tougher on somethings he waffled on and that's a good thing. She will also do things he was reluctant to do. She is just a bit to the left of him. The reason he put Court Reform on histo do list is because of her.he has been consistently reluctant to mess with it. That's one example. She will expand Medicare and at some point we will see Medicare and the ACA merge. And she will be tough on guns and the Environment. But the original point is that whoever she chooses will have national prominence because she chooses them. And Beshear is young enough that he can afford to wait. So is Shapiro and so is Whitmer.

by Anonymousreply 571July 26, 2024 1:36 AM

Democrats can win the presidency without Arizona, but they can't win it without Pennsylvania. That's why Shapiro is the favorite. The violent and anti-semitic protests in DC yesterday also changed the dynamic. Kamala even issued a press release today to condemn the actions. By picking Shapiro, it helps Independent voters in swing states know that she's not some crazy liberal that is anti Israel. I think that's why Halperin is saying that Shapiro odds have gone up.

by Anonymousreply 572July 26, 2024 1:44 AM

[quote] Everyone wanted to be Joe Biden's VP because he was old.

I was listening to Chuck Todd's podcast with his guest, NBC WH correspondent Mike Memoli, who's been in Bidenworld since he was an embed on the '08 campaign. They agreed that, but for the George Floyd murder, Gretchen Whitmer would have been Biden's pick in '20. Chuck Todd also said that, but for the Covid campaign restrictions, Biden, already significantly aging, would not have won that election. I also learned - if I hadn't just forgotten - how much opposition there was, especially from Plouffe, to keeping Biden on the ticket in '12. Ironically, the "prick" Axelrod opposed these efforts.

by Anonymousreply 573July 26, 2024 1:47 AM

Starting at 1:01:40 of the Halperin link, I like the pushback the Trump voter gets when he smugly cited the NYT poll showing that Harris was winning only 63% of the Black voter and 57% of the Latino vote. Without missing a beat, Halperin says, "If that's true, she'll win the election ... 'cause if she's tied [in the poll] & only winning 63% of the Black vote, she's got a lotta room to grow there."

by Anonymousreply 574July 26, 2024 1:55 AM

What I remember is that no sooner than Biden got the nom in 2020, he announced that he would choose a Black woman as his VP and several were vetted, not only Kamala. Val Demings and a few others whose names I'm forgetting....

Am I crazy? Did that not happen?

by Anonymousreply 575July 26, 2024 2:01 AM

I want to work in the White House. Look at all that boyfriend/husband material in one place. What a joy it must be to go to work everyday surrounded by smart and ambitious men who share the same values as you. I want to be in that circle. So many of them are gay, too.

R575, Yes, that's correct. Susan Harris was another one of the potential candidates. I wonder if she's being considered by Kamala?

by Anonymousreply 577July 26, 2024 2:06 AM

You mean, Susan Rice, R577, who was said to be, with, Harris, a co-finalist.

by Anonymousreply 578July 26, 2024 2:11 AM

And wasn't there a Black congresswoman from California, first name maybe Karen....?

by Anonymousreply 579July 26, 2024 2:16 AM

Bass, R579.

by Anonymousreply 580July 26, 2024 2:21 AM

NOT Susan Rice. Michelle Obama

by Anonymousreply 581July 26, 2024 2:21 AM

R575 and 577, it was not a pledge to choose a black woman as a running mate, it was a pledge to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court. He mentioned that he had fulfilled that pledge as one of his administration’s accomplishments during his Oval Office speech last night.

by Anonymousreply 582July 26, 2024 2:32 AM

[quote] it was not a pledge to choose a black woman as a running mate, it was a pledge to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court. He mentioned that he had fulfilled that pledge as one of his administration’s accomplishments during his Oval Office speech last night.

That's what I remembered. Harris was not the leading contender for vice president, especially when she ended her campaign before the primaries.

by Anonymousreply 583July 26, 2024 2:38 AM

Yes, it was the fallout from the George Floyd murder that committed Biden to pick a Black running mate, after earlier promising a Black female SCOTUS appointment.

by Anonymousreply 584July 26, 2024 2:44 AM

[quote] And Beshear is young enough that he can afford to wait. So is Shapiro and so is Whitmer.

No. Gen Xers do NOT have the affordability of time on their side.

And do you want to know why?

That's because Millennials are here, we're turning 40, we outnumber the Baby Boomers and every other living generation and we're not going to wait around until we're 60 to get a piece of that pie.

So they need to get to it. Because we're next and we're not get wait around forever for Baby Boomers to hand that baton. We will sooner steal that baton than wait around.

by Anonymousreply 585July 26, 2024 3:32 AM

R584, Biden never committed to picking a particular race as his VP, he only committed to picking a woman. The idea that he committed to picking a black woman is a lie spread by the GOP in wedge-issue ads targeted at Latinos.

I thought after Clyburn/South Carolina/AA support saved Biden during the primaries, that it was sort of 'understood' that Biden owed them (the VP pick as well as the Supreme Court). And they'd feel betrayed otherwise. That's how I remember it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 587July 26, 2024 3:54 AM

R587 perhaps there's another 90-year-old white man that Clyburn and South Carolina Dems would feel more comfortable with instead of Kamala?

by Anonymousreply 588July 26, 2024 3:58 AM

Then take it up with the staff at factcheck.org, R587, who totally contradicted your recollection when they wrote the linked piece five days before Harris was announced at the VP pick.

by Anonymousreply 589July 26, 2024 4:02 AM

There are people who trust Factcheck.org?

R590, The Society of Professional Journalists, the country’s oldest and most respected organization representing journalists, obviously think they are trustworthy since they have recognized factcheck.org’s work with the SPJ’s highest award, twice.

Beshear with his zingers and Kelly releasing a video where he's cosplaying as Tom Cruise in Top Gun... The girls are really doing everything to secure that VP spot. They're too thirsty, it's actually off-putting.

by Anonymousreply 595July 26, 2024 4:34 AM

Whatever. It was eventually understood that Biden HAD to pick a Black woman. It’s why Klobuchar & Whitmer bowed out of consideration. And it’s why the remaining finalists were exclusively Black women.

by Anonymousreply 596July 26, 2024 5:15 AM

R595 is Pete Buttigieg.

by Anonymousreply 597July 26, 2024 5:17 AM

R572, it won't be a Jew. Those same anti-Israel protestors are part of the Democratic base (the squad's acolytes and Hamas dupes).

by Anonymousreply 598July 26, 2024 5:22 AM

Mayor Pete leads DL's poll.

by Anonymousreply 599July 26, 2024 5:26 AM

With all due respect, attitudes like yours are why this country, hell even the world, is in the state it’s in.

You express a unsubstantiated opinion, colored by propaganda and marketing, and when met with probable facts supported by expert analysis, you immediately dismiss it with a shrug and double down on an untrue version of history built on nothing more than feelings and supposition.

I don’t care what you believe, you can fool yourself all you like but you’re not going to try to fool me too without being called on it.
