My question is how did she die when I've seen professional "eaters" who do eating contests eat 3 or 4 or 5 times as much. Maybe it's because they're trained?

She used to fast and not eat much so must be it stretched out her stomach too much literally.

I'm surprised that at some point the food didn't back up from her small intestine into her stomach and back up into her esophagus. Your sphincter muscle would just spasm and possible stop working and you'd vomit propulsively, and probably have a heart attack or tear your throat up, and bleed out. And that would happen long before you ever consumed 19 pounds of food. As I read that article it seemed fishy to me. You can eat a lot. You can even eat it slowly. But all that food?I became nauseated when I read the first item. Liver?Ugh. And then Kidneys? God God. I believe she over ate and she died. But who ever wrote this has no understanding of your GI tract and the digestive process.

I think with these guys who compete in hot dog eating contests or pie eating or whatever, they don't just show up for the contest. The winners prepared for weeks and months getting their stomach used to eating a lot. The opposite is true as well. Say you get sick and for a very long time you don't eat the way you should and you realize that you can't eat as much as you used to because your stomach is no longer used to handling as much.

With eating contests there's also a time limit isn't there? It isn't about eating 600 hotdogs it's about eating 600 hotdogs in 6 seconds. OK, I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean, right?

If she weighed 84 lbs this sounds like a mega-bulimic binge gone wrong. The food didn't come up like it normally would or she started bleeding so she panicked and went to the ER before she was able to finish. It sounds like she had been starving herself for weeks, and then finally gave in and basically ate everything in her kitchen but her stomach had shrunk too much to accommodate a binge that large.

It's sadly more common than you'd think.
