New GOP talking point: Trump will negotiate peace for Ukraine
I did not expect this to be a campaign point but this mishandling of the Ukraine war and the questions about what the Biden administration’s motivation for prolonging it have ensured it.
Anyone who has a rudimentary knowledge of Russia or Cold War history understands what this means: demarcation line

I can see the line following the Dneiper River about halfway up before turning towards the present border; I think Russia would like it going all the way up with a buffer around greater Kyiv but I doubt they’re in a position to negotiate that.

[quote]mishandling of the Ukraine war and the questions about what the Biden administration’s motivation for prolonging it have ensured it
By mishandling, don't you mean Russia initially thinking it could easily taking the eastern part of the country and not expecting Ukrainians to fight back with the help of NATO?
And by Biden prolonging the war, don't you mean the Russian invaders not retreating?

The Ukraine war was mishandled because the Ukrainian government should have simply negotiated a small corridor from the eastern flank to Crimea. Anyone who has a knowledge of European history knows that you cannot outlast the Russians unless you have a tactical advantage. In Afghanistan it was the Hindu Kush mountains. No such advantage existed in the Ukraine, except the availability of American weapons, a spigot that would eventually be turned off. The Ukrainians did not plan ahead for this, meaning the Trump administration which is basically guaranteed at this point would force the Ukrainians to accept a much more unfavorable demarcation line.

New York Times
Do not be surprised if Mrs. Harris takes the Presidency early and forces the Ukraine to make territorial concessions. Ukrainians would have to accept some loss of territory now or risk losing more territory with a Trump presidency. Of course, if Russia sees a Trump presidency as likely they may choose not to capitulate at all and wait for even more favorable terms in the future.
But as with all prisoners dilemmas, the most beneficial solution offered now will probably trump the one achieved through patience.

The NYT referred to her as Mrs. Harris?

The article never refers to her at all. This is a poorly posted opinion by the Datalounger to support his opinion on Harris' future by linking to the piece.
This situation has become like the later stages of WW I (Peloponesian War also?) with battles and casualties but neither side making substantial gains, just death and destruction.

Every day this war goes on means more and more Russian soldiers killed because of poor training and equipment. They are losing around 1000 soldiers a week.
Let it go on for as long as they can keep it going. The only good Russian is a dead Russian.

We should remember that it's only a talking point designed to present himself as an alternative to Biden. Trump is notorious for his fickleness and his inability to act independently from the rabid neocons with whim he surrounds himself. We ought to remember that he was the continued Obama's policies against Russia and started to apply sanctions on Nordstream, while talking about the advantages of having an open European energy market available to US operators. He also started the trade war with China and guaranteed that the possibility of military escalation with the Chinese remained an option - if anything, Biden has merely followed on Dump's policies, as he followed on Obama's, Obama followed on the Bush family's policies, and the Bushes both facilitated and continued the legacy of the Clintons, who took Reaganomics to its horrifying conclusion.
In short, Dump cannot be trusted about these matters, either. He is just more fickle and less hypocritical than US corporatist warmongers like their bought political servants to be. However, that doesn't mean that he's behaved any better than most other US presidents.

[quote] They are losing around 1000 soldiers a week.
That's on top of more than 100,000 Russians killed through May (French officials say 150,000) and the 500,000 or so that have been severely wounded.
The Economist:
"Our rough calculations, based on leaked documents from America’s defence department, suggest that probably around three to four Russian soldiers are severely wounded for every one killed in battle. That would mean that between 462,000 and 728,000 Russian soldiers were out of action by mid-June—more than Russia’s estimated invading force in February 2022. (French and British officials estimate that around 500,000 Russians had been severely injured or killed by May.)"

Trump will "negotiate" with Putin for whatever puts the most money?/wealth in Trump's pocket.
It's the way he "operated" his businesses (not as long range on-going successful businesses but as short term ATMs for him to dig out as much cash as possible). It's the way he ran the government during his first term.
Mike Johnson is as much a liar as Donald Trump. Believing anything either one of these two dirtball scumbags say is ridiculous because neither one of them has told the truth in their entire sordid lives.

It’s much more than a talking point. The motivation for Trump is to end the American subsidy of the war, which he’s going to do one way or another. If Biden and the Ukraine guy want different terms from the Russians than what they think Trump will do and if Biden wants the credit for ending the war, Biden should take care of it right now. He’s got time in this term.

The war in the Ukraine and America’s involvement in it is hugely unpopular. The GOP, now seeing that they can win the election, are going to after every single thing that’s unpopular with Americans and promise to fix it. They’re even softening their stance on LGBT rights.

R17 is right. Trump’s motivation is to stop sending money to Ukraine.
He may dump the problem on NATO and force Europe to share the burden, but even if he can say he reduced the cost to the US taxpayer, it’s a win for him.

Trump doesn't save the taxpayer money, R22. Just like that bullshit "I'm not going to draw a salary" he said. He and all of his deadbeat scumbag kids and in-laws stole/grifted 200 times his salary.
And once again, any money that would have gone to Ukraine will simply be diverted into his pockets and those of his devil spawn.
Do you honestly think the Trumps are paying for DJT and Kimberly's coke?

More likely to fund the southern border wall. Also, if Republicans have the trifecta, I expect there will be the mother of all reconciliation bills to enact the Trump agenda and it will require a lot of cash.

I am talking about the Russians.
The Russians stayed in Poland for half a century. Poland like Ukraine has no barrier.
Russia has been repelled before; most notably Finland. But the Finns had an advantage in that they were as adapt, even moreso, at subzero warfare than the Russians. And even then, Finland still ceded territory in the peace treaty.

How is any of this new?
Trump has been boasting for a couple of years now that he could end the Ukraine/Russian conflict in 24 hours. His plans have always amounted to cutting off all US aid to Ukraine and telling Zelensky to seek terms for surrender to Vladimir Putin, in effect giving it all to Russia.
Here's Pence responding to Trump's bullshit claim back in 2023:
