It's so hot, even the cat doesn't want to go outside.

by Anonymousreply 1July 8, 2024 11:33 PM

I just danced to Let's Twist Again by Chubby Checker in my kitchen as I unloaded the dishwasher. I tried to get my dachshunds to join me but they weren't interested and scampered out of the room in a hurry.

by Anonymousreply 2July 8, 2024 11:51 PM

R597 from the previous thread:
I don't like the word "schmear."

It sounds so ... Yankee, ethnical even.
It is “ethnical,” Yiddish. Are you an anti-Semite? Do you ever eat bagels and cream cheese? Thank Jewish immigrants for that.

by Anonymousreply 3July 9, 2024 1:10 AM

Oy.

by Anonymousreply 4July 9, 2024 1:16 AM

I threw up twice today. I don't know if I have a virus or if it's the increase of Ozempic. I injected 5cc for 4 weeks, now I increase to 10cc. I took my first shot of 10 on Saturday and I was fine. Today I got sick.

by Anonymousreply 5July 9, 2024 2:03 AM

Increasing Ozempicℱ will do that, sure.

by Anonymousreply 6July 9, 2024 3:15 AM

It's too hot to sleep.

by Anonymousreply 7July 9, 2024 3:49 AM

Turn on the A/C. R7.

by Anonymousreply 8July 9, 2024 8:47 AM

10,000 steps down, 10,000 to go

by Anonymousreply 9July 9, 2024 12:27 PM

Once a week I have a whispery woman on YouTube cleanse my chakras.

Then I come and spend an inordinate amount of time on DL and my chakras get sullied again.

It's a vicious cycle.

by Anonymousreply 10July 9, 2024 1:18 PM

What’s a chakra?

by Anonymousreply 11July 9, 2024 1:25 PM

Just for you, r11.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 12July 9, 2024 1:40 PM

Doesn’t sound like something that can be cleaned.

by Anonymousreply 13July 9, 2024 1:45 PM

Excuse me, “cleansed.”

by Anonymousreply 14July 9, 2024 1:46 PM

The Scottish narrator ok my audiobook does not lend well to double speed.

by Anonymousreply 15July 9, 2024 2:45 PM

You are harshing my mellow, r13, r14 and defiling my pristine chakras with your negative energy.

*smudges DL with sage*

by Anonymousreply 16July 9, 2024 2:57 PM

Sniff, r16.

We've been smudged with worse.

by Anonymousreply 17July 9, 2024 4:10 PM

So I finally made the knock-off version of cherry Garcia ice cream.

Sort of an involved process. Not gonna make it again anytime soon. It is very good, though.

My mom has a dislike for Roma tomatoes, not sure why. We always buy on-the-vine or the beefsteak ones.

by Anonymousreply 18July 9, 2024 4:14 PM

Oh my, it's up to my thigh!

by Anonymousreply 19July 9, 2024 4:25 PM

Oops.

by Anonymousreply 20July 9, 2024 4:25 PM

First I tried Dark Shadows, then I tried the X Files and Interview with the Vampire. I’m thinking of seeing if Bride of Frankenstein can be streamed because **something** has to act as a counterbalance against all that heat out there. I don’t even want to have popcorn. It just seems like it’d be too hot.

by Anonymousreply 21July 9, 2024 4:42 PM

Ok. I’ve mowed the back yard. Awful, but it didn’t kill me. Cooling off and hydrating before I tackle the front.

by Anonymousreply 22July 9, 2024 4:44 PM

It’s never too hot for popcorn.

by Anonymousreply 23July 9, 2024 4:45 PM

2 turds in the toilet. One got flushed.

by Anonymousreply 24July 9, 2024 6:51 PM

R18 Roma tomatoes have barely any juice. Many ppl prefer juicier varieties. That being said, my cherry tomatoes are ripening daily. Delicious little bursts of flavor.

by Anonymousreply 25July 9, 2024 7:41 PM

R21 Bride of Frankenstein is considered one of the best sequels of all time. Great film.

by Anonymousreply 26July 9, 2024 7:43 PM

I have to stay off caffeine for 24 hours for a medical test. Wish me luck.

by Anonymousreply 27July 9, 2024 7:55 PM

It’s not your fault I just got whelmed, R27. You couldn’t know that “medical test” and “stay off caffeine” are two of the worst torments I can imagine short of war, famine, and people making noise. I’m sure you didn’t put them together in a sentence just to whelm me.

Good luck!

by Anonymousreply 28July 9, 2024 8:17 PM

That’s. It’s been 4 hours so far, and the worst thing is I was confused about dates and didn’t realize the 24 hours started this afternoon, so I didn’t even think to have extra coffee this morning.

by Anonymousreply 29July 9, 2024 8:21 PM

^thanks

by Anonymousreply 30July 9, 2024 8:21 PM

Are you ready for women’s pussies?

by Anonymousreply 31July 9, 2024 8:23 PM

I'm an only child and no partner so my estate will go to my cousin.

I find it uncouth that she will occasionally mention how she plans to spend the proceeds of my estate in her retirement.

She's worse than a DLer. DLers just ask for your stuff; she is telling me how she's going to enjoy my stuff after I croak.

by Anonymousreply 34July 9, 2024 8:36 PM

r34 if you bequeath it all to me, I promise I won't be vulgar and gauche about it. Promise!

by Anonymousreply 35July 9, 2024 8:39 PM

Lately, the rapidity and volume of posts is exhausting.

Be less interesting. And less expressive about it.

by Anonymousreply 36July 9, 2024 8:43 PM

You're not the boss of me, r36.

by Anonymousreply 37July 9, 2024 8:48 PM

r34 give it to charity instead. If I have anything left that's what I plan to do.

by Anonymousreply 38July 9, 2024 8:55 PM

Titillate

by Anonymousreply 39July 9, 2024 9:39 PM

Dickilate, r39.

by Anonymousreply 40July 9, 2024 9:53 PM

My new floating floor has a section that isn't entirely flat and gives a little, making a small noise. I've decided I can step elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 41July 9, 2024 10:13 PM

It's 113° today. A little cooler than yesterday's 116°.
I threw up twice today. I don't know if I have a virus or if it's the increase of Ozempic

Totally the Ozempic. Take your zofran about 45 minutes before injecting a higher dose.

by Anonymousreply 45July 9, 2024 11:22 PM

I think I'd prefer Mounjaro over Ozempic.

by Anonymousreply 46July 9, 2024 11:24 PM
I think I'd prefer Mounjaro over Ozempic.

I switched from Ozempic to Mounjaro for maintenance. I had zero side effects on mounjaro and ganined 5lbs. Went back on ozemoic for a few months. Lost the weight I’d gained on mounjaro.

After a few months I decided to try mounjaro again. Felt so much better, but gained 6 lbs.

So
mounjaro has zero effect on me. It feels like I’ve taken nothing and fists a lot more money. So I just bought another month of Ozempic.

The Ozempic gives me stomach pain, but it cuts my appetite so I don’t even think about food.

by Anonymousreply 47July 9, 2024 11:33 PM

Had my yearly physical today (now they call them 'wellness checks'). ECG good, HR & BP (which have been issues) are also good. Fingers crossed that the blood work is good too. Find out in a couple of days.

by Anonymousreply 48July 9, 2024 11:57 PM

I've been having to use more Dawn to get the suds I like. I wonder if they fucked with the formula.

by Anonymousreply 49July 10, 2024 1:55 AM

Haven't you noticed the new scent, R49? It smells like grandma perfume now.

by Anonymousreply 50July 10, 2024 1:58 AM

I have to take another 10cc of Ozempic this Saturday, which I'm dreading. Should I do 5 in the morning and 5 at night?

Or 5 on Saturday and another 5 on Sunday?

by Anonymousreply 51July 10, 2024 2:38 AM

Who cares?

I saw a deer late this afternoon walking through the woods on my property and he went to the lake for a drink. It's been hot.

by Anonymousreply 53July 10, 2024 3:09 AM

I just took a cold shower so hopefully I can fall asleep. Day 4 of broken A/C in a brutal heatwave. That part is whelming but it’s making me remember happy childhood memories and surviving heat waves with no air conditioner.
Bride of Frankenstein is considered one of the best sequels of all time. Great film.

Some consider "Bride of Frankenstein" the rare sequel that's actually superior to the original. Both "Frankenstein" and "Bride" were directed by James Whale.

Paul Mccartney does eye yoga so that he doesn’t have to wear glasses. Side effect is that he looks like Jessica Fletcher’s uglier, older mouth-breathing sister.

by Anonymousreply 56July 10, 2024 10:51 AM

the first thing I do upon waking is put my spinal heating wrap in the microwave for 3 minutes on one side then flip it over for another 3 minutes. This brings my neck, shoulders, and back some relief until my AM painkillers have time to take effect.

by Anonymousreply 57July 10, 2024 10:52 AM

Does that mean, r56, that McCartney would look less like Jessica Fletcher’s uglier, older mouth-breathing sister if he wore glasses?

by Anonymousreply 58July 10, 2024 11:40 AM

As a science doctor who has met Jessica Fletcher’s uglier, mouth-breathing sister, I may not confirm or deny anything because of HIPAA

by Anonymousreply 59July 10, 2024 3:44 PM

I have to buy a new microwave today. I have a combo Toshiba that's lasted less than a year. I might buy a GE.

by Anonymousreply 60July 10, 2024 4:38 PM

You’d be dead if you took 10cc Ozempic, R51

by Anonymousreply 61July 10, 2024 6:59 PM

R61 they gave me tiny needles. I can't even see if it's cc or mg. Just following written orders.

by Anonymousreply 62July 10, 2024 8:27 PM

You’d also be dead if you took 10 mg of Ozempic.

by Anonymousreply 63July 10, 2024 8:46 PM

I just walked my dog to the pet deposit area but a skunk was in there digging and dining on beetles and grubs and we turned around and went back to see a dirty diaper hanging on the fence cuz they’re so lazy they can’t bring it to their Apt but can’t get it over the fence so how long do we have look at every time we go by you lazy pigs and then a praying mantis right in front of me but kinda faded green and those things can kill a small mammal so it’s creepy and then I almost stepped on piece of poo that maybe was what in the diaper hanging from the fence so I just went in the house. I cant take anymore.

by Anonymousreply 73July 12, 2024 8:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 74July 12, 2024 10:00 AM

Pilot G2 Gel Pens were BOGO today.

I got three deals of the Black Ink, Bold 1.0 mm variety. 2 pens per pack for a total of 12 pens.

The bold 1.0 mm is a thick tip. I like a thick tip.

by Anonymousreply 77July 12, 2024 12:23 PM

Thank you, R73, for posting that.

When I was in school, we were taught that you could take a breath (pause) when you saw a colon or comma but, you couldn't until the sentence ended. I just woke up from a long blackout after reading that post.. Did I miss anything?

I spent all day at a seminar so that I can earn credits and keep my certification. It was the ususal snooze-fest.

by Anonymousreply 78July 12, 2024 12:32 PM
I like a thick tip.

by Anonymousreply 79July 12, 2024 1:03 PM

I bought some shorts on line and they’re an aspirational fit.

By that I mean they don’t quite fit now, but would if I lost 5 pounds.

I better return them.

I made Anthony Bourdain's favorite mortadella and provolone sandwich yesterday. I wasn't impressed. Truly underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 81July 12, 2024 4:19 PM

I would imagine the quality of ingredients is crucial.

by Anonymousreply 82July 12, 2024 4:30 PM

Mortadella is bologna with nuts. the very definition of underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 83July 12, 2024 4:44 PM

R81, I felt the same following an edamame and fennel salad recipe.

The dream was a dish that tasted of Spring. Meh.

by Anonymousreply 84July 12, 2024 5:00 PM

MY favorite bologna is lyonner bologna. Mortadela is whack.

But CYA..

I always get a headache when they inject the dye.

I'm trying to save money this summer while eating as healthily as possible, and one of the best options there seems to be bananas at Trader Joe's, which cost 23 cents each. A can of black beans is usually less than $1, and can be dressed up reasonably well with spices and sriracha sauce.

by Anonymousreply 90July 12, 2024 9:50 PM

A can of beans for a $1 and a 23 cent banana. Wow talk about hard times r90. Hope things get better for you

by Anonymousreply 91July 12, 2024 9:55 PM

I'm took my favorite niece to the mall for clothes. It was tortuous. Now she wants to go to the Cheesecake Factory for a late lunch.

by Anonymousreply 92July 12, 2024 9:59 PM

A strange girl I knew ate only instant mashed potatoes with capers in them.

by Anonymousreply 93July 12, 2024 10:09 PM

A friend I haven't seen for over 20 years showed up at my door a couple of days ago. I didn't recognize him with grey hair.

by Anonymousreply 94July 12, 2024 10:10 PM

I finally donated to the Dems and the “do you want to tip” thing came up.

by Anonymousreply 95July 12, 2024 10:11 PM

He just “showed up” unannounced? This isn’t the 19th Century.

by Anonymousreply 96July 12, 2024 10:20 PM

Well, he did. He's a mortgage agent and was in the neighborhood at a nearby house.

by Anonymousreply 97July 12, 2024 10:22 PM

My Apt. manager removed the dirty diaper. That poor woman is the best manager I’ve ever had but she has to pick up dead gophers and dog poo if others don’t. I hope she never leaves.

Humidity be gone! This is New England not the south, a break next Wednesday they say. Even my fingers are sweating.

by Anonymousreply 101July 13, 2024 3:37 AM

As much as I want to volunteer at an animal shelter, I don't want to spend my retirement cleaning up cat and dog shit.

by Anonymousreply 102July 13, 2024 7:05 AM

Plenty of tasks are available. Wait to say “no” when volunteering and redirect to better tasks you will perform.

There’s dog walker - two bags of shit max per pup. Good for the pup and good for you.

There’s also senior pet brusher - people willing to detangle fur slowly and painlessly. This one is popular with folks who enjoy popping zits.

by Anonymousreply 103July 13, 2024 10:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 106July 13, 2024 4:35 PM

Got up early, cooked a ton of food for the week. Lit a candle when I was done to get rid of all the food smells.

Showered and then left to run a bunch of errands. Didn't make it out of my development before I started to doubt if I had extinguished the candle. Turned around and went back and checked, candle in fact extinguished.

Busybody across the street peeked out the window when I originally left, again when I returned a few minutes later and yet again when I left the second time. Get a life Gladys Kravitz!

I've switched to flavored iced tea, lemonade and flavored lemonade. So far I like Pure Leaf Raspberry Iced Tea, WaWa Peach Iced Tea, Simply Lemonade and Simply Raspberry Lemonade.

Open to additional suggestions.

Sorry, I don't like DL favorite Crystal Light.

by Anonymousreply 112July 13, 2024 6:47 PM

I'm having a raspberry kombucha.

by Anonymousreply 113July 13, 2024 6:49 PM

I've never had kombucha. I've also never had coconut water from the can.

I have had a fresh "young" coconut from a roadside vendor. The vendor shaved off the outside, cut off just the top, stuck a straw in it. After I drank that, I ate the coconut, which was really soft.

Not much flavor in that coconut water.

Not just weekends.

I walk 4 miles daily, including weekends.

by Anonymousreply 117July 13, 2024 7:35 PM

Excellent, R117. I'm going to try to get my butt in gear to walk in the morning before work.

I decided to look up some of my old college crushes on LinkedIn. The hottest of the bunch, who was a literal male model before college, has worked for the same NYC nonprofit for 25 years now. Good-looking for 50+, but tragically straight.

Somehow I always forget how much straight guys can blow up in weight after they hit 30 or 35. The ex-model is still trim, but I can't say the same for most of our first-year hallmates. The hunky lacrosse player across the hall from me is now 100 pounds overweight, mostly bald, and giving off a distinct Trumpy vibe.

I also found out that the nicest guy in my dorm died a few years back, due to a rare blood cancer. Smart & handsome, too, and still looked good even in a pic taken a year before he passed away.

Finally, the one other gay guy on my hall – and, coincidentally, one of only a dozen or so students out of 3,000+ from the same city; I didn't find out he like cock until running into him at a gay bar a decade later – is now a full-tilt Cabinette. He's a high-powered attorney married to a twink 20 years his junior, and while I knew even back in college that he was self-loathing, he's now on a bizarre anti-trans tear. (Well, maybe not that bizarre by DL standards, given its similarly bizarre number of transphobes, but still.)

by Anonymousreply 132July 14, 2024 5:24 AM

I feel sick today and I am not on ozempic. I don't understand why people take that shit if it makes them sick constantly.

by Anonymousreply 133July 14, 2024 6:39 AM

Because they're fat, r133. They'd rather be skinny.

by Anonymousreply 134July 14, 2024 8:12 AM

Should have tried some TajĂn, R141.

It livens up the flavor considerably, especially on bland fruit.

by Anonymousreply 144July 14, 2024 4:55 PM

We have experienced the horror of pretty tasteless fruit for 30 years. I no longer shop melons.

I need an unwitting melon taster in my life. He should be hirsute and he should think he looks simian. Yeah, this has strayed beyond melon.

by Anonymousreply 145July 14, 2024 5:04 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, r144.

I just looked it up; it sounds good and my supermarket actually carries it.

by Anonymousreply 146July 14, 2024 5:17 PM

Tajin tastes pretty good on avocado, too.

by Anonymousreply 147July 14, 2024 5:51 PM

Tajin on white flesh fish is excellent, especially flounder and tilapia.

by Anonymousreply 148July 14, 2024 6:00 PM

According to Mashed the best way to prepare frozen waffles is to pre-butter them frozen and then cook on stove top in frying pan or in oven or air fryer.

Obviously don't pre-butter if putting in toaster.

Supposedly this pre-buttering method elevates the whole frozen waffle experience.

I can't vouch for it as I haven't tried it yet. Just passing along the information.

The house finches are eating my sedums again this year, I see.

by Anonymousreply 150July 14, 2024 7:33 PM

R149, that's absurd.

"Pre-buttering" works only as a form of pre-lubing, usually when "Last Tango in Paris" is playing in the background.

R236, did you call the CC company? Were they from the same company?

I ordered something once and Chase CC declined the purchase. When I asked why, they said they'd received complaints from other Chase CC customers that the website (or one similar) was a scam. I told them my purchase was made by me and they told me to go ahead and reorder; they would approve the charge.

One the other hand, AT THE HEIGHT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, AmEx allowed a purchase from Airbnb for $750!! When I called, they actually asked me, "You didn't make that purchase?" Fuck NO, I didn't charge an Airbnb!! Right now?? Seriously??

I have so damn many squirrels
. I had 5 in my front yard because I put out water for birds. I noticed I had these holes appearing in my garden beds and under trees. Real holes, not just little scratching to bury things, like squirrels do. I realized I hadn’t seen the chipmunks for at least a week. Then I found big holes leading under my deck.

So I was pissed when I was watering plants yesterday and saw a squirrel freeze when it saw me. That’s weird, I thought. Squirrels are very bold. They usually treat me like their servant.

Then I noticed - the squirrel didn’t have fur on its tail. And its very, very long tail was just hanging down instead of being curled at the end.

Since I had meetings elsewhere, in town, not sure how that would help, much less get me back to the dealer when the work was done.

Arm & Hammer isn't my usual brand of deodorant but I figure they will come in handy for travel or my guest bathroom.

First BLT of Summer!

It feels like an Allrecipe comment.

I didn’t have beefsteak or gnarly farm tomatoes so I used Roma. I didn’t have romaine so I used part of a “chopped” kit. I didn’t have miracle whip so I used aioli. I didn’t fry the bacon, I baked it at 325 forever. The bread wasn’t cheap, white, and square; it was wide-ass white.

The whole thing tasted great.

by Anonymousreply 277July 19, 2024 4:43 PM

Good thing you ran out of Miracle Whip.

I can't use A&H baking soda toothpaste. The baking soda gives me crusties on the sides of my mouth.

Day 28 total knee replacement. 4 weeks!! I am self sufficient, even driving short distances for groceries, etc. Flexion and pain continues to improve. Still taking Extra Strength Tylenol every 4-6 hrs. It's amazing how quickly the body can recover!

by Anonymousreply 284July 19, 2024 5:54 PM

There's construction going up up the road from me, and a truck has been making that "backing up beep" sound for about two hours now. I expect if it continues he'll end up in Rhode Island. Backwards.

by Anonymousreply 285July 19, 2024 6:39 PM

I forot to put my garbage out on Wednesday night. I didn't go to work like I usually do so I completely forgot. If i'd gone out, I would have noticed my neighbors' garbage and recycling and remembered. I woke up Thursday morning to the sound of the garbage or recylcing truck backing up. Next week I will have at least 3 bags, if not 4, of garbage because I have some other things that were supposed to go out. I think the limit is 5.

by Anonymousreply 286July 19, 2024 7:09 PM

My car won’t start😠

Had to Uber to an appointment. Waiting for roadside assistance. Probably need a new battery, though the car has “brake system problem” alerts.

by Anonymousreply 287July 19, 2024 9:15 PM

Maybe it's the brakes, r287?

by Anonymousreply 288July 19, 2024 9:38 PM

Maybe. But I read online that a dead battery can lead to odd warnings including “brake system problem”

by Anonymousreply 289July 19, 2024 9:48 PM

I walked a block or so to the corner market for some popsicles. There was a homeless man, naked from the waist down, in front of the store. I just went ahead inside and got my popsicles.

by Anonymousreply 290July 19, 2024 10:13 PM

There is so much more to be said about the homeless man, naked from the waist down.

by Anonymousreply 291July 19, 2024 10:16 PM

I would check the brakes

by Anonymousreply 292July 19, 2024 10:27 PM

It was the battery.

I'm at my lake cabin. It's hot today. 26°C and 22°C in the water. Going swimming soon to cool off.

by Anonymousreply 306July 20, 2024 10:30 AM

Is that hot?

by Anonymousreply 307July 20, 2024 12:43 PM

R307 For Norway, yes. Especially this year. It's been a shitty summer. Mostly just rain and cold temps, like 15°C. This is the first "heat wave" we've had this summer, and July is almost over. It's been THAT bad. It's probably the worst summer we've had in like 20 years. I'm not exaggerating. It's been horrible. I had to turn on the heat in my living room. Anyway, happy for the few nice days we got. Tomorrow will be the last nice day for a while. Then it will start raining again on Monday :(

I really need to hire a cleaning lady.

I just don't have the vim and vigor I once had.

There's a sister duo on nextdoor .com who have 124 positives votes. They got an award for Best of 2023.

I shall give them a ring.

by Anonymousreply 309July 20, 2024 2:27 PM

I first hired my cleaning service over a decade ago when I was working crazy overtime hours and didn't have the energy to clean. Best choice ever, and I'm never going back.

by Anonymousreply 310July 20, 2024 3:48 PM

Does anyone know if that company that advertises cleaning a home for 20 dollars legit?

Is it just that first time rate then you pay a regular fee thereafter or what?

Seems too good to be true, honestly.

$20 sounds too cheap and too good to be true.

My mom used to clean the house before the cleaning lady got there.

by Anonymousreply 317July 20, 2024 7:37 PM

I'm motivated to clean house, now. We'll see whether I act upon this.

by Anonymousreply 318July 20, 2024 7:39 PM

I need to get started soon on my Lydia Bastianich recipe for Marinara sauce.

by Anonymousreply 319July 20, 2024 7:41 PM

I had to put things away before my cleaning lady came because otherwise she would decide where they go and I’d never find them.

by Anonymousreply 320July 20, 2024 8:11 PM

r309 having someone clean your home is such a nice treat. I have a lady come in once a month (small apartment). I've been doing this for years. I have no desire to spend my free time cleaning, and even if I did, my cleaning lady does a much better job than I could ever do.

Do it! It's worth the expense.

by Anonymousreply 321July 20, 2024 8:23 PM

The one with the pork neck bones, R319?

It’s a delicious, authentic sauce but I really don’t like that the neck bones break up and you might accidentally bite down on a small bone whilst eating your spaghetti or meatballs.

Have you ever made her Sunday supper ragĂș? With the meatballs and the braciole? It’s amazing, but very labor intensive.

by Anonymousreply 322July 20, 2024 8:27 PM

I also live in a small apartment, r321. What do you do while the cleaning person is there? I think I would find it awkward and uncomfortable.

by Anonymousreply 323July 20, 2024 9:33 PM

I did the math -- Using the same amount of electricity I can operate my window AC for 1 full hour to cool my daytime rooms vs. 10 minutes with my central 3-ton HVAC.

Big savings and no difference in comfort.

by Anonymousreply 330July 20, 2024 10:16 PM

Why do you have both?

by Anonymousreply 331July 20, 2024 10:19 PM

I spelled her first name wrong. It's Lidia Bastianich not Lydia.

by Anonymousreply 332July 20, 2024 11:20 PM

You're forgiven.

by Anonymousreply 333July 20, 2024 11:23 PM

r331 -- HVAC companies always want to sell you HVAC with systems with two-stage or with inverter technology. The idea being the machine will only work as hard as it needs to satisfy the thermostat, saving electricity/money. On mild days, low speed; on super hot days, full speed. Such HVAC equipment is expensive.

Augmenting my home's HVAC with a window unit allows me to reduce my energy use yet still remain comfortable. I only need to bring on the central AC on 95˚+ afternoons. It is the same thing as two-stage or inverter technology but is a much cheaper way to achieve the same goal -- efficiently and comfortably reduce energy use.

My window unit operates from a window at the rear of my house, not seen from the street.

Doing this is one of the smarter things I have done to keep money in my bank account rather than sending it to the power company.

How many days until winter?

by Anonymousreply 336July 21, 2024 1:01 AM

R323 great question!

My first cleaning lady could only come on Saturdays, so I would time my errand-running at the time she was to arrive. I'd have her clean my bedroom first, and then basically hang out there for the remainder of the time she was cleaning. It took her about 4 hours total.

My new cleaning lady comes on Mondays (one of the days that I commute to the office). This works out perfectly!

I've always given my cleaning ladies keys to my apartment. NEVER had an issue of theft etc.

Went to my great nephew's high school graduation party yesterday. It was nice seeing the family and the weather was great. Stayed about 3.5 hours (which is a lot for this introvert), but as it was getting more crowded with his classmates, I left.

by Anonymousreply 338July 21, 2024 12:32 PM

I had Eggo Thick and Fluffy Cinnamon Brown Sugar Waffles for breakfast. The flavor is not overpowering, very good, recommend. Prepared them in the airy fryer. 360 for 7 minutes, flip them mid-way, nice and crispy. Maybe 5-6 minutes if not using the "thick and fluffy" variety.

Used a new maple syrup, Sapjack and it was also good. They had a bourbon aged variety but I got the regular one which still had a tiny bit of bourbon flavor in my opinion.

I bought fresh evoo at WF based on the NYT’s Wirecutter recommendations . Both a cooking evoo and a “finishing” evoo. I’m such a lemming.

My old evoo had been sitting around too long, and I’ve only recently started cooking again. I poured it down the drain. What a waste.

by Anonymousreply 354July 22, 2024 3:46 PM

Poo!!

by Anonymousreply 355July 22, 2024 4:03 PM

Why are you pouring oil down the drain? That's the worst thing for a drain.

by Anonymousreply 356July 22, 2024 4:28 PM

Smell my fingers

by Anonymousreply 357July 22, 2024 4:38 PM

I cooked chicken and dumplings at 7am to beat the heat.

by Anonymousreply 358July 22, 2024 4:57 PM

Great. Now I’ve destroyed my house.

by Anonymousreply 359July 22, 2024 4:57 PM

I poured it down the drain because I wanted to recycle the bottle.

by Anonymousreply 360July 22, 2024 4:58 PM

I have realized that I either can't buy a big container of cut watermelon or I have to eat it more consistently. I just opened the Tupperware container and it smelled sour. I had grapes instead but I really wanted watermelon today. It's been wonderfully refreshing these last few really hot and humid days. Maybe I should just buy the smaller container every couple of days for the next few weeks.

by Anonymousreply 361July 22, 2024 5:00 PM

Okay., I’ve poured baking soda and vinegar in the drain to be followed by boiling water. I’m told that will convert the fatty acids in the oil to soap and glycerin. Maybe my house is not destroyed.

by Anonymousreply 362July 22, 2024 5:07 PM

And maybe it is.

by Anonymousreply 363July 22, 2024 5:11 PM
My old evoo had been sitting around too long, and I’ve only recently started cooking again. I poured it down the drain. What a waste.

A waste indeed, have you seen what olive oil costs these days?

by Anonymousreply 364July 22, 2024 5:21 PM

Having just bought two bottles of the stuff, yes. Yes, I have.

by Anonymousreply 365July 22, 2024 5:24 PM

Run some hot water (from the tap) down the drain for maybe 10 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 366July 22, 2024 5:32 PM

I might as well burn the house down and collect on the insurance.

by Anonymousreply 367July 22, 2024 5:51 PM

And this year is the house’s centennial. 100 years of living destroyed by a single careless moment.

I’m so ashamed.

I'd like to like pomegranate seltzer but don't know if I do.

by Anonymousreply 369July 22, 2024 6:11 PM

R368 et al.

You need to get cooking oil absorber. It's a powder you sprinkle on your used oil, it solidifies it and then you just scrape into the trash. Obviously, available on Amazon.

And don't ever, ever, EVER make such a silly mistake again! Naughty boy.

by Anonymousreply 373July 22, 2024 9:21 PM

R371, wouldn’t that be store made lasagna and not homemade?

by Anonymousreply 374July 22, 2024 10:07 PM

Hmm ... I've been buying 5-lb. containers of cut watermelon (single person household) and it's been keeping well. I don't have to eat it very quickly. The store cuts the melon on-site, though. So, maybe it's fresher.

by Anonymousreply 375July 22, 2024 10:56 PM

Thank you for the chicken cooked in milk recipe, Turkish Youtube Lady With Pudgy Hands!

I fucked up the recipe (because I have special needs!) and it still turned out awesome.

The recipe calls for boiling the chicken in milk and then frying it. I can’t have fried food, so I baked it. It is sooo tender and it has absorbed more of the spices than I thought. Next time, I’ll up the cayenne pepper and sneak in some garlic. I may also try replacing the half&half with greek yogurt.

by Anonymousreply 376July 22, 2024 11:19 PM

You don't have to sneak with the garlic. Just do it out in the open.

by Anonymousreply 380July 23, 2024 12:43 PM

R375, I belive mine is also cut fresh at the supermarket. I don't remember what day I bought it. I think it was a Friday and the freshest day may be Sunday when they restock the shelves.

Rest assured, I'm not giving up. The watermelon this season has been fantastic. It reminds me of the watermelon my Grandmother used serve. She knew how to pick out a ripe watermelon like no one else!

by Anonymousreply 414July 24, 2024 10:15 PM

Jesus would have suffered all the little bugs to come unto him.

by Anonymousreply 415July 24, 2024 10:30 PM

If you can afford to go hiking you can afford to pay for bug spray, but you’re a deluded thief who seeks to cloak his criminality in victimhood.

by Anonymousreply 416July 24, 2024 10:35 PM

Yes I can AFFORD the bug spray. Doesn't mean I'm going to pay that much for it. I prayed on it and Jesus said snatch it. He thinks the price is a bigger sin than me stealing it. If I see some poors on the trail I'll let them use some.

by Anonymousreply 417July 24, 2024 10:38 PM

Jesus did not say snatch it. You were talking to SATAN.

by Anonymousreply 418July 24, 2024 10:40 PM

Cleaning sisters are coming Friday. I'm giddy excited.

by Anonymousreply 420July 24, 2024 11:05 PM

I’m making a few pairs of shorts from old sweatpants. Without a hem, they make me look like an alley scrap picker from the 60s. I’m hoping for more of a “Soviet Mandatory Athletic Fun and Optimism” look.

by Anonymousreply 421July 24, 2024 11:26 PM

I'm watching Wuthering Heights (1939) on youtube.

by Anonymousreply 422July 24, 2024 11:45 PM

The dentist rescheduled from 9 this morning to 1 on Friday. It's OK.

So I got a haircut this morning instead and my barber was very chatty.

Traffic was terrible, though. It always is now.

by Anonymousreply 423July 24, 2024 11:51 PM

On day 7 of COVID and still coughing up a lung. I think one of the reasons I got hit so hard this time is that I was run down before I got sick. I’ve been forcing myself to go to bed at 10:00. If nothing else, I look better now that I’m well rested.

by Anonymousreply 424July 25, 2024 12:39 AM

Let us know how it turns out.

by Anonymousreply 425July 25, 2024 1:49 AM

My coworker, who is around my age, whose name begins with a J, and who went to Catholic school, said he couldn't read my handwriting (capital "J" in script or cursive). Not sure what kind of Catholic school he went to.

by Anonymousreply 426July 25, 2024 5:57 AM

I bought two Kyocera ceramic knives from Amazon and then discovered they sell the same knives with a different color handle for about half the price, so now I’m returning the first knives (which they’ll probably have to junk) and ordering them again. It would make more sense to just refund me $35, but that’s not how Amazon rolls.

by Anonymousreply 427July 25, 2024 1:34 PM

It would be too difficult for me to give up dairy altogether. Maybe I could just cut down.

by Anonymousreply 428July 25, 2024 1:45 PM

My central air is not dehumidifying.

by Anonymousreply 429July 25, 2024 3:46 PM

I just moved into my new house. I had to change my address with DMV.

by Anonymousreply 430July 25, 2024 3:58 PM

I have to water my friend's garden shortly. They are away until next week.

by Anonymousreply 431July 25, 2024 4:01 PM

Service guy is here. Wish me luck, gals!

by Anonymousreply 432July 25, 2024 4:22 PM

I hope you're wearing a fresh muumuu.

by Anonymousreply 433July 25, 2024 4:24 PM

I have a new jacket that I think might be good for long plane rides. (I get really cold on the plane.) However, my old wool jacket is so damn warm (but bulky!) that I am loathe to experiment with this new jacket.

by Anonymousreply 434July 25, 2024 11:50 PM

So I finally got around to making the base for pistachio ice cream.

All these recipes are sort of involved but the reward is well worth it.

by Anonymousreply 435July 26, 2024 12:27 AM

I'm making Trader Joe's lasagna for dinner, along with garlic bread from Sprouts.

by Anonymousreply 436July 26, 2024 12:32 AM

I heard that the 2034 Olympics are to be held in Salt Lake City. It hit me that I probably won't still be around to see them, I'm not young. It makes me feel sad.

I used America's Test Kitchen "recipe" for making a full pot of coffee this morning.

55g of coffee and 34 oz. (964g) of water.

Very good.

by Anonymousreply 441July 26, 2024 11:28 AM

I prepared two Eggo waffles in the air fryer until they were very crispy.

Then I took a pint of strawberry Haagen Dazs ice cream, laid it on its side and with a serrated knife cut through the packaging at 1/2 inch intervals making round disks.

Then I peeled the packaging off one of the larger disks and put it between the two warm waffles and ate it.

Dee-licious.

by Anonymousreply 442July 26, 2024 1:07 PM

And the rest of the ice cream?

by Anonymousreply 443July 26, 2024 1:33 PM

I put the rest of the disks in an airtight container and into the freezer and will use on an as needed basis for future waffle ice cream sandwiches.

The smaller disks from the bottom end of the container will have to be cut into triangles and cobbled onto a waffle.

by Anonymousreply 444July 26, 2024 1:38 PM

Lost a 1.2 kilos, but I can't celebrate with food.

by Anonymousreply 445July 26, 2024 2:16 PM

Amazon delayed my Prime Day purchase delivery again.

by Anonymousreply 446July 26, 2024 2:31 PM

Walgreens had to scan half-a-dozen Visa gift cards this morning before they could find one to sell me.

I hope the recipient will be able to use the card.

by Anonymousreply 447July 26, 2024 2:49 PM

My car usually makes a rattling noise for a few seconds on a cold start. I took it to a local mechanic and told them the VTC actuator needed to be replaced because it's a known issue with the 2015 Honda Fit. They told me I was wrong replaced a different part then charged me $400. The rattling sound is now louder and more consistent.

The dealer quoted me $2,200 to replace the actuator and the timing chain since they have to take it off anyway. Most owners just live with it because it doesn't harm the engine and someone mentioned after a year the noise comes back.

Dwelling on what I should do.

by Anonymousreply 448July 26, 2024 2:55 PM

Live with it. $2,200 for a one-year fix makes no sense.

by Anonymousreply 449July 26, 2024 3:25 PM

I ordered a dumbbell set from Amazon on Prime Day last week. But Amazon sent me two sets of the same dumbbells. I began a return, and instead of dragging them to UPS, Amazon will pick them up from my house.

This is not the first time Amazon has screwed up an exercise equipment order I've made. I once bought a squat bar, and a few days after receiving it, I got another one sent.

by Anonymousreply 450July 26, 2024 3:51 PM

I thought only Italian parents and grandparents from the old country threw their slippers.

I thought my family was unique, but I guess not.

Damn, that’s tasty.

by Anonymousreply 461July 27, 2024 5:54 AM
I want to know how the cleaning sisters did.

They were [bold]amazing[/bold]!!

After they left I was like a kid at Christmas just looking around at everything in awe.

Swept the front porch. wiped down the rocking chairs and front door, swept the garage, I could go on about little things they did we hadn't gone over when the one sister came over for the walk thru and pricing. They were tipped handsomely. My doxies loved them too.

I know people say cleaning ladies are always good at first and then the quality drops but it stood out to me that their reviews on nextdoor. com all mentioned the quality of their work remaining consistent over long periods of time.

by Anonymousreply 467July 27, 2024 1:08 PM

I don't understand people who say they "love the heat". It feels like an oven outside and you love it?

by Anonymousreply 495July 29, 2024 4:24 PM

I love the people who say “It’s hot out, but it’s not so bad because it’s a dry heat.”

So’s the inside of my oven but I wouldn’t want to live there.

by Anonymousreply 496July 29, 2024 4:26 PM

Dry heat is less dangerous and uncomfortable because perspiration can evaporate and cool the body. High humidity makes the body’s natural cooling system ineffective.

by Anonymousreply 497July 29, 2024 4:29 PM

Then I shall amend my comment to read: "I don't understand people who live in high humidity areas who say they "love the heat". I perspire just walking to my car in a supermarket parking lot and I'm not overweight.

r500, that's quite whelming and quite a leap. Leg cramps are often caused by dehydration and low potassium. He might need to drink more water and eat a banana. Rule out the easy to fix cause first rather than worry about potential vascular disease and needing surgery. Sheesh.

If you're on DL, sorry, but you're most likely not young and, also, not able / willing to devote 8 hours per day to working out.

Took a dump in the woods on my morning run today while listening to a pre-9/11 In Our Time podcast episode about the Romantic movement. I try very hard not to make it into a habit, but it happens every couple of months – when you get the runs in the middle of nowhere, it's either in the woods or down your pants. I didn't wash the ginger well enough when I was making ginger juice yesterday and I paid the price for it today. Thank god for that emergency roll of toilet paper I carry around with me.

Anyway, it really is unfair, the way they shat on some of the Romantic authors for turning to the right in their work. How could they not react to the horrors of the French Revolution?

In a wrinkle to the wrinkle, 2000 was a leap year.

You can’t polish a turd.

by Anonymousreply 543July 31, 2024 2:55 PM

R542, financial modeling nerds informed me that Millenniums do not get a leap day. We had bonds earning interest into the aughts.

by Anonymousreply 544July 31, 2024 3:49 PM

What is it you want? Pussy? Sorry, I ain’t got one!!!

by Anonymousreply 545July 31, 2024 5:07 PM

It has nothing to do with millenniums. Century beginnings (technically century endings, but let’s not go there) do not get a leap day unless they are evenly divisible by 400. That’s why 2000 did have a leap day, but 2100 will not.

In my defense, I wasn’t a good fund accountant, but my reports looked exquisite.

I’m getting a shower installed (ripped out the old ugly bathtub) and it’s taking too long and want it to just be finished

by Anonymousreply 550July 31, 2024 5:30 PM

I went swimming today, in the fjord. It was warm-ish, like 20°C. It was nice.

by Anonymousreply 551July 31, 2024 5:33 PM

r550, It'll take twice as long as they told you and cost twice as much.

Coke Zero Sugar is better than Diet Coke.

Craving vodka while at The Betty Ford Center

by Anonymousreply 554July 31, 2024 5:36 PM

^^I feel the same about Pepsi Zero.

by Anonymousreply 555July 31, 2024 5:39 PM

The fjords here in eastern/southern Norway are not surrounded by tall mountains, so they don't carry ice water like the ones in western Norway. We don't have tall mountains near the ocean here, only further inland. That's why the water in the fjords here is swimmable in summer. It usually gets to like 20-22°C, low 70s F. I think it was about 20°C today.

Boars Head you in danger.

I love Boar's Head Deluxe Ham.

I get it shaved, pile it on a brioche bun with mayo (Blue Plate) and some pickles.

Rainier cherries are reaching the end of their season. The first gigantic white nectarines I've seen this summer were OK but not perfect given they were about $3 each at Whole Foods. I'll pay their prices, reluctantly, if the produce is good but when it's not, Bezos is a thief selling bad fruit.

by Anonymousreply 564July 31, 2024 10:58 PM

R554 are you really at Betty Ford? Good luck to you.

Three weeks ago I decided I would only drink socially. I’ve given up my evening cocktail and wine with dinner at home. It hasn’t been an issue except today when I got home from work, I really wanted a drink. I went for a swim instead and the urge passed. I know it’s not easy for many people and I realize I am very lucky.

by Anonymousreply 565July 31, 2024 11:22 PM

Aqua?

by Anonymousreply 566July 31, 2024 11:24 PM

I wish I could go on the Dark Web and order drugs. Unfortunately, I don't know the websites. Anyone?

by Anonymousreply 567August 1, 2024 12:06 AM

There used to be a subreddit that can clue you in.

I can buy weed at the weed store now, so I’m not up to date.

I forgot to buy avocado when I went food shopping. Shit. I love them in my salad.

by Anonymousreply 569August 1, 2024 2:25 AM

Anyone watching Gods of Tennis on PBS? Is it just me or does McEnroe now look a bit like a deranged Kennedy?

by Anonymousreply 570August 1, 2024 2:31 AM

How well I remember McEnroe's temper tantrums. He was right sometimes arguing with the umpire but sometimes it was obviously for attention. People found it entertaining at the time.

by Anonymousreply 571August 1, 2024 3:38 AM

I found it (McEnroe) obnoxious at the time.

by Anonymousreply 572August 1, 2024 3:54 AM

Oh, Marie Callander, you make the best oven goo. I could never be angry with you.

by Anonymousreply 573August 1, 2024 4:09 AM

Very few frozen dinners can I abide. I can do Stouffer's Lasagna and their Stuffed Peppers.

by Anonymousreply 574August 1, 2024 4:38 AM

I wanted to watch Hell Hole on Shudder tonight. I looked for it everywhere but unfortunately it's not going to be streaming until August 23rd.

by Anonymousreply 575August 1, 2024 5:44 AM

Settle for “A Wounded Fawn” R575. It was timely.

R576 I just watched the trailer and it looks good. Thanks!

I just realized why some DL posters hate wire hangers. I now have rust stains on one of my favorite t-shirts after hanging it while it was still wet.

by Anonymousreply 583August 1, 2024 9:26 PM

Cats are supposed to take you for granted.

And you are supposed to adore them slavishly and smother them with whatever their tiny little hearts desire.

Oops tomorrow will be overwhelming. Trump and Josh Shapiro coming to town for separate fundraisers in an already traffic choked area where there is only one road in and out

Summatime in an election year.

Biden was here last month. That was cool because of all the presidential aircraft. Two Ospreys!

by Anonymousreply 591August 1, 2024 10:45 PM

I had a spinach and beet salad for lunch. I don't know what I'm going to have for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 592August 2, 2024 1:29 AM

I’m bloated right now.

by Anonymousreply 593August 2, 2024 3:00 AM

I'm bloated about 95% of the time.

by Anonymousreply 594August 2, 2024 3:24 AM

All I had for dinner was a cheesecake brownie.

by Anonymousreply 595August 2, 2024 3:27 AM

The meat department at my local supermarket has really gone downhill. It's now at least 2/3rds Select grade beef, with a few always poor quality Prime ribeyes and strips. The only Choice grade beef are oddly cut round roasts and briskets. All overpriced of course. I bought a Choice grade Round Tip Roast.

by Anonymousreply 596August 2, 2024 4:28 AM

I was so busy tonight I forgot to eat dinner. Now I'm in bed getting ready to go to sleep and my stomach is growling.

Fuck it, I'm exhausted and I'll just go to sleep hungry and I'll eat when I wake up.

by Anonymousreply 597August 2, 2024 7:03 AM

It's possible today is the last nice day this summer, it's sunny and warm. We're already in August and it's supposed to be colder and rain for the next week. That's why I have to enjoy it. Gonna eat ice cream, sunbathe (with sunscreen!) and swim in the ocean.

by Anonymousreply 598August 2, 2024 7:26 AM
