Why? Did Bernie give Joe that spray tan? There's one person to blame and his initials are J. B.

by Anonymousreply 2July 7, 2024 12:00 AM

Nope.

Bernie and his bros wouldn’t and couldn’t vote for Hillary.

And their temper tantrum destroyed America.

When will you pig-headed, elderly Centrists come to recognize that nothing supports your "feeling" that Bernie cost us the 2016 election? You know what did? Hillary's poor campaigning + Robby Mook's arrogance + yes, to an extent, fucking James Comey.

Although I know you won't bother even reading it, OP, the University of Virgina's Center for Politics published this very interesting analysis of this question.

[quote]A higher percentage of [Sanders'] voters backed Clinton than her voters backed Obama in 2008 or Rubio and Kasich voters backed Trump in 2016. Assuming that [Sanders'] voters cost her the election ignores the fact that, if he had not run, in all likelihood there would have been another credible Democrat that ran against Clinton.

by Anonymousreply 6July 7, 2024 12:28 AM

[quote] You know what did? Hillary's poor campaigning

How embarrassing for you, blaming Hillary for her poor performance when Bernie could not even get enough votes to make it on stage.

by Anonymousreply 7July 7, 2024 12:44 AM

R7 - get a fucking clue. BILL FUCKING CLINTON knew that Hillary's campaign was making mistakes, but Robby Mook knew better. It's an understatement to say that Bill Clinton was neither a perfect man or President, but he certainly had MUCH better political instincts than his wife or her trusted campaign manager. Their blunders in ignoring State-level campaign staff in swing states that narrowly decided the election were FATAL mistakes. And they cannot be blamed on anyone but the campaign manager and the candidate.

Give up your diva worship of Hillary and her pantsuits and realize, whatever skill she had as a working politician, did NOT translate into being a remotely effective campaigner.

[quote]Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook comes across very badly indeed, and appears to have been the wrong man for the job. First, he had a Machiavellian streak (the authors call him a “professional political assassin” bent on “neutralizing” competitors), which he seems to have directed less towards defeating Donald Trump than towards squelching his power rivals within the campaign team by selectively depriving them of knowledge.

[quote]Second, and worse, he appears to have been an idiot. Mook was a numbers nerd obsessed with data analytics, but had such blind confidence in his statistical calculations that he followed along when they told him to send Hillary to spend the last stretch of the campaign in Arizona rather than Wisconsin. Every single decision he made was based on the elaborate analyses of campaign stats guru Elan Kriegel (a man whose name should live in infamy), from which Mook concluded that it was a “waste of time and energy” to try to persuade undecided voters or to go to rural areas. Mook ignored pleas from state-level organizers for adequate organizing and advertising budgets, and rebuffed everyone who dared to question the algorithm’s superior wisdom. They were fools who didn’t understand the superiority of cold hard math to fuzzy intuition, and Mook felt they failed to adequately appreciate the superior rationality of his strategy.

[quote]Thus every time Bill Clinton warned that the campaign was dangerously losing support among the white working class, and “underestimating the significance of Brexit,” Mook responded that “the data run counter to your anecdotes.” After the election, asked to explain what the hell had happened, Mook blamed the data. (I can’t help but be reminded of Michael Scott obediently following his GPS as it directs him to drive into a lake, because “the machine knows.”)

I still don't get the argument that someone running for a nomination against some other person cost that person the general election.

Hardly anyone runs unopposed in a primary (maybe an incumbent, which Hillary wasn't). Hillary had only *one* opponent, but that was too much for her to overcome. Good lord. Grow up.

AGAIN. For the the eldergays who didn't remember to charge their hearing aids....

In 2016, a higher percentage of Bernie Sanders primary supporter voted for Hillary in the General election than Hillary primary supporters voted for Obama in the 2008 election. YES, a higher percentage of Hillary supporters voted for the Republican candidate in the general election. Put another way, the so called far-Left Bernie Bros were actually MORE LOYAL to the Centrist DNC machine than Hillary supporters were.

People didn't want the Clintons back in the White House. Clinton decimated the Heartland. Trump (dishonestly) claimed he would resuscitate industry. People knew Hilary wasn't going to do anything. They may have even voted against her for that reason, in some Midwest states. Obama was president for 8 years and if there weren't term limits he probably would have been elected over Trump. HRC wasn't popular, the end.

by Anonymousreply 18July 7, 2024 1:24 AM

I was pro-Bernie in the primaries, but once Hillary got the nom, I was supporting her. Bernie was just one factor in 2016. The media was another. Hillary not campaigning properly in the swing states was also a factor. But Comey's announcement of reopening the investigation just days before the election was probably the most significant weight on the scale.

The problem was Bernie and his crackpot supporters did irreparable damage to Hillary’s image and campaign. They did the GOP’s job for them. They also stole the DNC voters’ records. The DNC bent over backwards for a non-Democrat to shut up his loony supporters who were crying foul every two seconds. They had a fart in at the convention when Hillary received the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 22July 7, 2024 2:05 AM

R22, the Clinton’s ran some of the dirtiest campaigns of all, so why should we care that it was done to her. If a politician cannot survive attacks from his or her own party, they cannot survive them from the other side.

Hilary actively alienated large portions of the electorate and ignored vital swing states. That’s on her, and her alone. I held my nose and voted for her, because the alternative was horrible, but she did nothing to erase her unlikeable image.

by Anonymousreply 36July 7, 2024 8:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 37July 7, 2024 8:44 PM

Bernie has nothing to do with the DNC getting behind and propping up obvious losers. He also has nothing to do with the liberal trend of identity politics that has alienated the general public. He's basically a mild new deal democrat who stays on message with working class populism. Go to bed Hillary.

by Anonymousreply 51July 7, 2024 10:14 PM

R51 Dear, Bernie or his voters did not cause Hillary Clinton to lose. A politician has to face opposition, and win over opposition. How many people can you (or she) blame for her loss? I don't remember Adlai Stevenson or Hubert Humphrey or Al Gore whining and blaming the people who ran against them for losses. Oh, poor, poor, Hillary! People were not 100% supportive of her! Politics is a tough business. And now you're reaching back into the past to blame someone for what's happening in 2024.

by Anonymousreply 52July 7, 2024 10:33 PM

Hillary won the popular vote by almost 3 million.

We live in a country where a grand total of 79,000 voters from just three states (Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania) can cancel the votes of 3 million others.

by Anonymousreply 53July 7, 2024 10:44 PM

Yes. Because we're a republic that uses an Electoral College system. One that you never had a problem with until Trump won. Hillary has NEVER been the best choice for anything at anytime. Everything she touches turns to shit. Both personal and public. I don't want to say what she is but it starts with a 'C' ends with a 'T' and it's cunt.

by Anonymousreply 54July 7, 2024 10:48 PM

Thats not her fault, it's Bernie for creating a cult like MAGA type fallowing who were Bernie or bust.

by Anonymousreply 57July 7, 2024 11:00 PM

R57 It's already been stated that more Bernie supporters voted for Hillary than Hillary supporters voted for Obama. I voted for her, myself. Then she went around bad-mouthing us. Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 58July 7, 2024 11:09 PM

Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States. The choice is not even close.

by Anonymousreply 59July 7, 2024 11:12 PM

People like Hillary and Biden are place keepers. They don't have progressive policies. Clinton and Gore and those Democrats actively wanted to change the Democratic party from the party of FDR to something that would appeal to the managerial class. The Democratic party has become a party that believes in big business. Not workers. We're the only civilized nation without some kid of government-sponsored health care or with government health insurance. Those railroad workers who were striking were striking for sick days. Biden crushed the strike. These people are actively resisting progress. I don't see why you love them so much.

by Anonymousreply 60July 7, 2024 11:15 PM

R8 I will never forget his face the day after the election. If tragedy had a face. I think I actually felt more sorry for him. He was completely shell shocked. It hit him like a ton of bricks.

by Anonymousreply 61July 7, 2024 11:28 PM

Hillary would be finishing up her second term right now, and the country would be in such a better place. Full student loan relief. A fabulous economic recovery. (There was nothing like a Clinton economic recovery) No COVID debacle. A stellar health care system. Several Supreme Court justices. A more liberal Supreme Court. It would be wonderful.

People don't like her because of Bill. The truth is she is a very moral and ethical person who truly cares about people. The way she carried herself with the utmost dignity was very impressive as well. She is a class act in every sense of the word.

Bernie is a phony shitbag of a human being who has sold out on all of his principles. True Independents despise him for the way he has cozied up to Biden. They see him for the bullshit artist he's always been.

by Anonymousreply 62July 7, 2024 11:35 PM

[quote] One that you never had a problem with until Trump won.

R54 Not true. I've had problems with the concept since reading about it in high school civics. .. And don't forget. It's the Electoral College that gave us "W," since Gore also won the popular vote. The whole debacle in Florida based on 537 votes wouldn't have mattered.

I can only imagine the Founding Fathers invented this mechanism, because they thought the country would eventually far more than two strong political parties, and there might be occasions when each candidate won 25-30% of the vote.

But now that the country appears stuck with horrible two-party system, the EC doesn't work. All we hear about is "battleground states." If there are only seven states that can swing an election, why even bother with a general election?

by Anonymousreply 63July 7, 2024 11:36 PM

R60 In nearly every other Western nation the equivalent of the Democratic Party represents the working class. But the democrats had to sell that dream decades ago because they kept losing elections to the GOP who would bamboozle the working class with the cultural wars. In Western Europe there had never been social issues to trump working class interests but then again like most things it’s boils down to the legacy of slavery. Those countries are more ethnically homogeneous. You add the puritanical nature of American Christianity in regards to things like homosexuality you see why democrats had to go corporate.

There isn’t a true equivalent of the GOP in Western Europe. The conservatives there are really more like US democrats.

R67 You are right my friend. But it’s funny. The more conservative, in their relative political framework, those countries are becoming as their populations become more diverse. Why can’t we all just look like Puerto Ricans.

by Anonymousreply 82July 13, 2024 7:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 83July 13, 2024 7:42 PM

2016 was the illusion of choice. Hillary Clinton was the Anointed One. Everyone was instructed not to run against her. Many people preferred to have another primary candidate...in a presidential primary. A primary is supposed to allow you to see the candidates run against each other, so their views can be defended and challenged. So they can present their side. She wasn't the incumbent!! Where did all the usual people go, who run for president? 2020 was a huge clown car of candidates--because suddenly no one was instructed not to run against an anointed candidate. Bernie Sanders did even better than in 2106 and was the presumptive nominee. Despite the clown car. Then Obama pulled strings, Bloomberg was out, then on the eve of Super Tuesday, Klobuchar, Pete, Beto--but Warren stayed in until after Super Tuesday, to take votes away from Bernie.

This is the illusion of democracy.

by Anonymousreply 84July 13, 2024 7:56 PM

As time goes by Obamas presidency is becoming irrelevant, his legacy will be Hillary losing in 2016, 2020 Biden winning in 2020 and Biden losing in 2024...

If Obama didn't have too much of his hand in the DNC things could've played out differently and we could be in a better situation. Biden winning 2016 and successfully doing two terms would've saved the world so much chaos. But again centrist fail to see inwards and instead are blaming Sanders again, they have been especially mad because these past few years they were told Biden was in great mental health only for it to blow in their faces on June 27 2024!

The centrist are the BPD abusers in a really bad relationship.
