Just realized my cat doesn't have a name
I've been taking care of a stray for over a year now and he's pretty friendly now and lives indoors with me sometimes if the weather's bad or if he wants company, but is mostly content outside in his little insulated cat house I bought him in the garden. He's neutered and vaccinated now.
However, it occurred to me today that I never actually gave him a name. I just always prefer to him as "the grey tabby cat"
I want to name him now, but it feels weird, like no name would suit him after all this time being nameless. Should I bother naming him or just forget it? He's young, I'd pay about two years old.

Definitely name him, even if the name is "Kitty."

Didn't you have to give the vet's office a name when you got him neutered and vaxxed?

What do you call out when you want to get his attention?

My family had a Siamese cat for almost 20 years that didn't really have a name. It started off as Samatha but we always said "Here kitty kitty" and she would not answer to any other name after a while. People always thought that was not very nice. But she was incredibly spoiled and loved. One lady told us that if she was ever reincarnated, she wanted to come as a cat in our family.

That cat will be scorned by society and different from the rest.

This never happened. R4 is right: a vet won't process a nameless animal.
Also, aren't you supposed to register/microchip them in the US? In Australia a vet would look for a microchip on a young dog or cat and, not finding one, would tell you you need to have that done. And give the name of the animal to put on record.
Count down, OP, because the Aspie troll will be onto you anytime now.

Cat chips are subscription only in US. If you don’t pay yearly fee, they switch the chip off

r15 I live in Ireland, not the states. And yeah, when you bring a stray cat to the vet to be neutered, the vet won't push for a name if you tell him it's a TNR situation. Back then this cat was still timid, so I had no idea he'd end up being my pet.
