I need a little escape today. Give me your best summer movie that takes place in a fun foreign location. Open to anything after 1965. Something light and airy, maybe French. I liked Purple Noon, Evil Under the Sun was a romp, Summer Hours and ALL the summer Rohmer are my favorites. Thanks, pals.
Looking for a good summer foreign movie

It IS Rohmer summer weather. Maybe I'll re-watch Le Rayon Vert tonight.
One movie that comes to mind is by Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1992 film The Lover

Other than that it meets none of OP's criteria.

I found "Knife in the Water" to be dark and oppressive, not "light and airy", but it is good.

A perfectly delightful Loren/Mastrioanni film from the early 60s by Vittorio de Sica “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”. The first and third episodes mostly. Charming x 10.

Since you said you liked Purple Noon, how about La Piscine from 1969 with Delon and Romy Schneider? It is set on the Côte d’Azur.
Or (to double up on the title) Francois Ozon’s Swimming Pool from 2003 with goddess Charlotte Rampling in another summertime erotic thriller?

It's not light but I enjoyed this thriller about 2 girls biking through France. Something about about those open fields is eerie and agoraphobic. And being in need of help but unable to speak French.
