The Gays and Tennis, Part 170 -- On to the Wimbledon Finals!

Roddick was severely fuckable back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 1July 5, 2024 1:42 AM

Oh, Andy.

by Anonymousreply 2July 5, 2024 1:42 AM

Gosh, the Murray tribute got to me.

He was never my favorite, but seeing Rafa, Roger and Novak take part in the tribute was very cool. They clearly have a ton of respect for him.

by Anonymousreply 3July 5, 2024 2:25 AM

Did they play "you had a bad day" for him?

by Anonymousreply 4July 5, 2024 2:29 AM

Was that Venus in the tribute to Andy?

by Anonymousreply 5July 5, 2024 2:35 AM

[quote]Did they play "you had a bad day" for him?

They played that for Rishi.

by Anonymousreply 6July 5, 2024 2:41 AM

Andy looks so fucking old.

by Anonymousreply 7July 5, 2024 5:45 AM

Andy's send-off was really cool. Though I was surprised there was no Serena considering they played doubles together. It was lovely to see how much Andy is respected by his peers.

by Anonymousreply 8July 5, 2024 5:52 AM

Djokovic looks pretty rough.

by Anonymousreply 9July 5, 2024 6:18 AM

Really liked the tribute, though I didn’t like how the players in the video were clearly just reading scripted lines.

Would have been better to hear their own words and takes.

Not that any of it was insincere but it was clear they wrote a script and divided out who would say what.

Serena has now come out for Murray. I think Murray might be the most popular player of all time among his fellow players. Even Federer's goodbye didn't cause this kind of reaction.

by Anonymousreply 14July 5, 2024 2:21 PM

On the Tennis Podcast, they noted it was odd that Roger wasn’t on court for the retirement ceremony, despite being on the grounds.

They speculated he didn’t want to draw focus, as he’s such a Wimbledon luminary.

Who knows.

by Anonymousreply 15July 5, 2024 3:15 PM

Tiafoe is playing Carlitos really well. But what is up with the weird epaulet things on the Nike shirts?

by Anonymousreply 16July 5, 2024 3:30 PM

Tiafoe had a minor chance to possibly close it out (when he was up 30-0 on Alcaraz's serve at 5-5 in the 4th) , but Alcaraz wins the 4th set tiebreak and cruises in the 5th

by Anonymousreply 17July 5, 2024 4:29 PM

[quote] But what is up with the weird epaulet things on the Nike shirts?

Perhaps it’s a subtle tribute to Roger? He went through an epaulet phase.

by Anonymousreply 18July 5, 2024 4:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 89July 7, 2024 3:33 PM

That was a quality match.

Humbert fought like a tiger all the way, but Alcaraz just turned on the after-burners in the last two games.

Alcaraz - like last year - will be very battle hardened going into the sharp end of the tournament.

by Anonymousreply 90July 7, 2024 3:37 PM

Yeah Sinner, spank the fratboy out of Shelton but good!

by Anonymousreply 91July 7, 2024 3:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 114July 7, 2024 6:45 PM

I, too, had never seen Sun play before. I was really impressed with how she handled the pressure of playing against a crowd favorite on Center Court. She really took it to Radacanu and deserved the win.

Rybakina, Collins and Svitolina and Pepa Pig the last big names standing.

by Anonymousreply 122July 7, 2024 8:26 PM

Navarro did very well.

by Anonymousreply 123July 7, 2024 8:26 PM

Should America’s Sweetheart Danielle Rose Collins postpone her retirement? She’s done well this year.

by Anonymousreply 124July 7, 2024 8:30 PM

Navarro rock solid and played great. Coco got flustered and her forehand broke down, as it does.

Every player has a range of play, and a range of stroke production. But the range should not be as big as Coco's is for a top 5 player. Sure, she may have a bad day with her forehand, but it shouldn't be THAT bad.

by Anonymousreply 125July 7, 2024 8:37 PM

It's no secret that if you hammer Gauff's forehand it will break down. I thought that she had hired a coach specifically to work on the forehand. What happened with that?

by Anonymousreply 126July 7, 2024 8:49 PM

Gilbert said that if she changes her grip and totally reworks her forehand it could upset the rest of her game. As dicey as her forehand is, she's achieved a LOT as is. And reworking a tennis stroke is NOT easy as things are ingrained by this point. So I just don't know what she does. I've always thought she could take a more defensive approach to her forehand, which she sort of did when she first started. Take a few steps back, hit more mid-pace higher-arc looping shots to give herself time and make her opponents have to make shots. I'm thinking Sabatini, or ASV, or Martinez. Then be aggressive with the forehand on mid-court balls and passing shots. I'm not a coach (though I do play tennis, lol), so I'm just throwing things out there.

by Anonymousreply 127July 7, 2024 8:55 PM

ESPN must be bummed. The big names on the women's side are out.

by Anonymousreply 128July 7, 2024 8:58 PM

Putintseva is such a brat on court. Peppa has mellowed out with that nonsense, but she was formerly the worst behaved in the WTA. It just comes off petulant and childish.

Danielle Rose remains the grande dame of cunting around the court, but somehow she comes off more fiery and authoritative and it just looks less pathetic coming from her.

by Anonymousreply 227July 8, 2024 10:11 PM

Please explain Garfia for Carlitos?

by Anonymousreply 228July 8, 2024 10:24 PM

Spaniards often carry both the maternal and the paternal surnames.

Alcaraz is his dad. Garfia is his mom.

by Anonymousreply 229July 8, 2024 10:31 PM

The first or paternal surname is Alcaraz and the second or maternal family name is Garfia.

by Anonymousreply 230July 8, 2024 10:31 PM

R228 it's his full Spanish name: Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. In Spain you take both last names of your parents.

See also: Roberto Carballes Baena, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina etc.

by Anonymousreply 231July 8, 2024 10:32 PM

[quote] Please explain Garfia for Carlitos?

In addition, when Carlitos first started playing professionally he was listed as Carlos Alcaraz. At some point the draws and scores started using his full name of Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. I’m not sure why that happened (or why it didn’t happen in the first place) given that, as R231 indicated, RCB, ADF and others are referred to by their full names. Nadal, interestingly, has always been referred to as Rafael Nadal rather than his full name.

by Anonymousreply 232July 8, 2024 10:45 PM

Sometimes Spaniards choose one or the other. I dated a guy who used his mother's surname. He didn't like his father very much.

"Spaniards often carry both the maternal and the paternal surnames."

So what happens when two people with both maternal and paternal surnames get married. They just don't keep adding names in perpetuity, do they?

So if Carlos Alcaraz (paternal) Garfia (maternal) gets married to Conchita Martinez (paternal) Bernat (maternal) (I know, Conchita is a lesbian, but just to illustrate) and they have a son, Javier, and a daughter, Isabelle, what are their names? Only the maternal names carry? So, Javier Alcaraz Martinez and Isabelle Alcaraz Martinez?

Paolini's brilliant year goes from strength to strength. Absolutely crushes Navaro.

by Anonymousreply 296July 9, 2024 6:06 PM

"Paolini is journeywoman?"

She's probably not anymore, but she definitely was. He career started in earnest in 2015 (even though Wiki says she turned pro on 2011). She didn't play the main draw of a Slam until 2019 - and it was only one Slam that year before consistently playing starting in 2020. She never advanced beyond the second round of a Slam until 2024 (AO). First tournament win didn't come until 2021 (a 250) and second win 2024. She didn't reach the Top 50 until 2022, top 20 in 2023. So, in addition to direct entry, she was qualifying, relying on wild cards, sometimes playing challengers for quite a few years before she got established - which is sort of the journeyman MO.

Oh shit. It wasn’t Sheena after all. It was my medication fucking with my vision.

by Anonymousreply 329July 10, 2024 5:19 PM

Sheena Easton dated Andre Aggassi (briefly) in the mid-90s.

Could one of our resident hair-doers do a good turn for Our Pam?

by Anonymousreply 339July 10, 2024 6:06 PM

Mr, Insufferable will have made it to the semis or finals without having played against anyone in the top 10, and the only top 20 player he's faced is Rune in a very bad patch. Pretty sure NoVaxx has a deal with the devil.

by Anonymousreply 341July 10, 2024 6:30 PM

We appreciate your comment. We also noticed today that he, unfortunately, also has a mole on the back of his neck which is usually covered by his collar and/or hair.

by Anonymousreply 345July 10, 2024 6:45 PM

It's a hell of a win, but he's played well on the grass. Taylor just doesn't have the right stuff to break through yet. Not sure he ever will! This one will sting.

by Anonymousreply 346July 10, 2024 7:02 PM

Blame the poison pussy.

by Anonymousreply 347July 10, 2024 7:35 PM

This is the worst Wimby! There's no good storyline heading into the semis. Musetti is cool, I guess. But Novak will utterly destroy him.

In fact, Novak will cruise to the title. (Hurt knee my ass.) Carlos won't do it twice in a row. Especially because he's actually been very inconsistent in matches he should be breezing through. That won't work against Novak.

And while I like Ryba, I wanted it to be a bit more challenging. She should also cruise to the title.

by Anonymousreply 348July 10, 2024 8:37 PM

G*E*M*S death today.

by Anonymousreply 349July 10, 2024 8:41 PM

The Novaxx rant was embarrassing. He has the worst most sensitive rabbit ears and the way he tries to scold crowds is ridiculously smug and unbecoming. I don't care how great anyone is. You do not get to decide how people feel or react to you. His stick up the ass peacock walk is enough to make anyone roll their eyes and want to cheer against him. The ego on this guy is absurd.

by Anonymousreply 350July 11, 2024 3:52 AM

Gotta love the title on the Guardian’s main web page today:

[quote]Musetti edges Fritz in five-set thriller to set up Djokovic semi

Someone must have had fun with that title, because they then added “-final” after “semi”. And, unfortunately, if you follow the link you end up with a much more prosaic title: “Lorenzo Musetti sinks Taylor Fritz in five sets to set up Djokovic clash”.

by Anonymousreply 351July 11, 2024 7:02 AM

R350, I think his ears were especially sensitive that day because his children were there in the stadium to hear the crowd. I’m a fan of Djokovic’s tennis but I do think he’s a bit paranoid at times. I really believe the crowd was just cheering Rune on and not booing him.

by Anonymousreply 352July 11, 2024 9:57 AM

What a cunt!

by Anonymousreply 353July 11, 2024 10:21 AM

I have been rooting for Donna Vekic since round 3, but only because I had her confused for Petra Martic, and I really like to see a veteran break through. Now with this realization, I have nobody to root for among the milquetoast quarterfinalists.

by Anonymousreply 354July 11, 2024 1:45 PM

This is Vecic’s first semi in 43 grand slams. I think she qualifies as a veteran who is finally breaking through.

by Anonymousreply 355July 11, 2024 1:58 PM

Is she journeywoman?

by Anonymousreply 356July 11, 2024 2:16 PM

Like Vekic a lot. But she seems to torture herself out there.

by Anonymousreply 357July 11, 2024 3:08 PM

At 5-5 in the third set, Vekic looks exhausted while Paolini looks like she could play another set.

by Anonymousreply 358July 11, 2024 3:08 PM

Vekic looks like she can’t keep on banging.

by Anonymousreply 359July 11, 2024 3:14 PM

Pao-Pao-Paolini Pao-wers her way into a second consecutive Slam Final. Fairytale stuff!

by Anonymousreply 360July 11, 2024 3:31 PM

Poor Vecic. That tiebreak was agony.

by Anonymousreply 361July 11, 2024 3:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 362July 11, 2024 3:33 PM

I'm happy for Paolini but feel terribly for Vekic, ugh.

by Anonymousreply 363July 11, 2024 3:36 PM

Paolini's personality - and that laugh - is so infectious.

She could be great for the women's game - kind of reminds me of Li Na.

by Anonymousreply 364July 11, 2024 3:38 PM

Billie Jean King saying on the BBC that she doesn’t think she’s ever seen a match that was so tight for such an extended time. They both gave it their all.

by Anonymousreply 365July 11, 2024 3:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 366July 11, 2024 3:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 367July 11, 2024 5:38 PM

Got to hand it to Krejcikova - her ability to cunt down and grind her way back into a match is unrivalled.

It really looked like Rybakina was going to run away with it at the end of the first set.

by Anonymousreply 368July 11, 2024 5:40 PM

Was "cunt down" on purpose R368? It's hilarious as a typo or as a purposeful jab.

by Anonymousreply 369July 11, 2024 5:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 370July 11, 2024 5:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 392July 12, 2024 12:59 PM

Small cat takes the 1st set!

by Anonymousreply 393July 12, 2024 1:40 PM

What did Smallcat say?

by Anonymousreply 394July 12, 2024 1:47 PM

Alcaraz should not have shaved this morning, however I expect that he is intending to be in the final so he must be timing the stubble for that (I hope)

by Anonymousreply 395July 12, 2024 1:55 PM

It would be lovely if this was the final and Novaxx had been disposed of earlier in the tournament

by Anonymousreply 396July 12, 2024 1:59 PM

I think the umpire heard him swear at her (3 times ‘fuck you!’ according to most, with an added a ‘bitch’ or ‘piece of shit’ at the end according to others), and she called over a supervisor and the tournament referee. They discussed the issue for a bit and she gave him a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct in the end. Perhaps the umpire Eva Asderaki wanted to discuss a stronger punishment (defaulting?)?

by Anonymousreply 397July 12, 2024 2:07 PM

keep it classy Small Cat!

by Anonymousreply 398July 12, 2024 2:13 PM

They should penalize him like they do in hockey and in this case go ahead, play the match, but disqualify him from participating in the next major. Of course all the majors would have to agree on that kind of ruling ...

by Anonymousreply 399July 12, 2024 2:32 PM

Not sure how anyone can root for the russian asshole. He should have been defaulted.

by Anonymousreply 400July 12, 2024 2:58 PM

It was a difficult call and replays have shown how close it was. Asderaki's probably the most experienced umpire on the tour and even she had to seek advice on this one.

Medvedev got his punishment for swearing at the umpire but it would seem she and the supervisors decided that was enough as it had been such a close, difficult call.

by Anonymousreply 410July 12, 2024 4:03 PM

R410 No, you autistic freak.

by Anonymousreply 411July 12, 2024 4:07 PM

There are still a few, R407, per this thread, as obnoxious and willfully blind as we'd expect them to be.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 412July 12, 2024 4:09 PM

R407, sorry, but I am. I've written this before, but the reason I admire Djokovic is because, when he joined the tour, Federer and Nadal were so dominant and everyone else seemed to resign themselves to playing supporting cast to those two superstars. But Djokovic wasn't going to be satisfied with that. He committed himself to improving his technique, his physicality, and his mental game so that he could challenge those two seemingly invincible athletes. Djokovic wasn't intimidated going up against two of the all-time greats, and for that I give him a lot of credit. Now, as for the ingratiating things he does (thankfully he finally stopped with the "boobs out" gesture), his anti-vax stance, his frequent boorish behavior on court, etc., I remind myself of that quote about amazing athletes with clay feet. Roughly paraphrasing, it goes something like, "Admire them for what they can do, not for who they are."

by Anonymousreply 413July 12, 2024 4:11 PM

Oh lord, the BBC have served up the Axis of Awful as the commentary team for this match: McEnroe, Kyrgios and The King of Bore, Andrew Castle. Cue much fellating of Novak and platitudes galore!

by Anonymousreply 414July 12, 2024 4:15 PM

McEnroe's defense of Djokovic today was to say that despite everyone having 'dark' thoughts about Djokovic, "he is well liked in the locker room"

by Anonymousreply 415July 12, 2024 4:15 PM

and its Fowl-er on ESPN, sigh

by Anonymousreply 416July 12, 2024 4:18 PM

The commentators I’d like to retire are the McEnroes.

by Anonymousreply 417July 12, 2024 4:19 PM

R413, I only admire what they can do if I can also admire who they are, or at least not be totally put off by who they are.

by Anonymousreply 418July 12, 2024 4:21 PM

R418, I totally get that because my husband is the same way. He can't stand Djokovic and won't watch his matches. I, on the other hand, love watching Djokovic play because of his amazing technique. I'm just a lousy club player, but I try to emulate Djokovic's groundstrokes and his serve. And, yeah, I've also been trying to increase my flexibility because, as I've gotten older, I've been getting more of those pesky injuries, ugh.

by Anonymousreply 419July 12, 2024 4:27 PM

I need Musetti to sit on my face.

by Anonymousreply 420July 12, 2024 4:34 PM

Djokovic joined the tour in 2003 before Fed or Nadal had won a Slam. They just got there first.

by Anonymousreply 421July 12, 2024 4:35 PM

More booty shots!

by Anonymousreply 422July 12, 2024 4:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 423July 12, 2024 4:52 PM

Djokovic is playing really well.

What slump? What knee surgery?

by Anonymousreply 424July 12, 2024 6:16 PM

Musetti has his baby's heartbeat tattoo'd on him bicep. He's a sweetheart.

by Anonymousreply 425July 12, 2024 6:32 PM

I hope one of the questions in the press conference for Djokovic is what he thinks about reaching the finals without having played against anyone in the top 10.

by Anonymousreply 426July 12, 2024 6:44 PM

R426 Yes, because we all know how Djokovic has struggled against the top10.

by Anonymousreply 427July 12, 2024 6:47 PM

Certainly he has this year. R427, with losses to Ruud, Sinner and de Minaur.

by Anonymousreply 428July 12, 2024 6:51 PM

His kids are little cutie pies.

by Anonymousreply 429July 12, 2024 6:58 PM

Novak Djokovic-Carlos Alcaraz at the finals on Sunday!

by Anonymousreply 430July 12, 2024 6:59 PM

A part of me is glad that neither of the semis went to five sets today. I’m hoping that Alcaraz and Djokovic will both be well rested for an epic rematch of last year’s final.

by Anonymousreply 431July 12, 2024 7:00 PM

Djokovic is an excessively complicated personality. There have been plenty of alienating athletes but I’ve never seen anyone who was so self-destructive yet so successful.

by Anonymousreply 432July 12, 2024 7:11 PM

It's puzzling that Djokovic doesn't seem to understand that being so utterly full of himself is what makes him so unpopular.

by Anonymousreply 433July 12, 2024 7:18 PM

I sincerely hope Carlos can take Djokovic down. I want Nole to look back at Wimbeledon as yet ANOTHER loss in 2024. I'd really like for him to go the full Tennis year without a win so that, every time he plays, the announcers bring it iup.

by Anonymousreply 434July 12, 2024 7:20 PM

Sadly, I'm preparing myself for Novaxx hoisting the trophy. I hope at least that its a dogfight.

by Anonymousreply 435July 12, 2024 7:23 PM

We could discuss Djokovic and why he's not liked for days. There are so many reasons.

Thing is, when he first came on the scene he was really liked and popular. And then he ruined it. He's still well-liked amongst other players so it's entirely his on-court and other antics which have turned people off. It takes a lot to make the Wimbledon crowd boo, even if they're hiding it under a 'ruuuuuune'.

by Anonymousreply 436July 12, 2024 7:24 PM

Carlitos is going to have to be a lot more focused in the final. I don't think he can afford to go in and out of the match at least once a set against Novak.

by Anonymousreply 437July 12, 2024 7:26 PM

I'm somewhat skeptical that Roger has a lot of time for Djokovic. I could be wrong of course, but in the whole 'well liked by other players' i think their may a few exceptions. Don't confuse the required polite conviviality with unspoken truths.

by Anonymousreply 438July 12, 2024 7:29 PM

I LOVE Djokovic. ❤️

by Anonymousreply 439July 12, 2024 7:32 PM

R438 It'll all come out in the wash. Like for years tennis fandom was saying Serena and Maria hated each others' guts, then we find out years later they're actually really good friends.

by Anonymousreply 440July 12, 2024 7:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 441July 12, 2024 7:58 PM

Eat me you stupid bitch

by Anonymousreply 442July 12, 2024 8:15 PM

With all due respect to Roger, people change. Roger is no longer in the locker room with Nole. He may be confusing respect with likeability or just being diplomatic. No sense in Roger tarnishing his reputation by giving his true opiono of ND. I'm sure the other players respect his game but I doubt any of them are rushing to have drinks, green juice shots, or whatever the fuck, with him after a game or workout, even if Nole doesn't drink.

by Anonymousreply 443July 12, 2024 8:17 PM

I was a long-time Djokovic fan who got turned off by his anti-vax bullshit,

But he’s inarguably one of the absolute greats.

He started the year so poorly then amazingly pulled it together at RG before the injury.

And this post-surgery run is astounding. Massive credit to this guy. I don’t want to watch slams settled by who chokes less. I want these epic warriors.

Paolini reminds me of Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. Playing against the bigger hitters, she's not in control of her own destiny, but she is really adept at taking advantage of opportunities when those opponents falter.

by Anonymousreply 477July 13, 2024 2:12 PM

Babs is cracking.

by Anonymousreply 478July 13, 2024 2:21 PM

I really hope that Kejcikova doesn’t have a Novotna meltdown in the third.

by Anonymousreply 479July 13, 2024 2:24 PM

Funny that Jazzy P, who's all of 4ft tall, has more aces in this match.

by Anonymousreply 480July 13, 2024 2:28 PM

I really don't affirmatively like either of these players, or particularly dislike.

by Anonymousreply 481July 13, 2024 2:31 PM

R481, I felt the same way, but Paolini is beginning to win me over with her feistiness.

by Anonymousreply 482July 13, 2024 2:35 PM

Paolini has an interesting ethnic background: Italian, Polish and Ghanian.

by Anonymousreply 483July 13, 2024 2:36 PM

R481, felt the same way, but Paolini is beginning to win me over with her fetishness.

by Anonymousreply 484July 13, 2024 2:38 PM

Chris Evert's commentary would be drastically improved by a glass (or five) of Pinot Grigio.

by Anonymousreply 485July 13, 2024 2:40 PM

In high school, I was popular in the locker room, but it had nothing to do with how I played.....the game.

by Anonymousreply 486July 13, 2024 2:43 PM

Day 13

Several famous stars rushed to see some live tennis as Wimbledon reaches its final stages. On Saturday (13 July), Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale (Serendipity, the Underworld franchise) was sat in the royal box alongside Skyfall and 1917 director Sam Mendes and Strictly Come Dancing professional Johannes Radebe. Hugh Jackman, who is in London to promote his new film, Deadpool & Wolverine, was also in attendence, sat with theatre director ian Rickson, while singer Ellie Goulding was also present. Former tennis pros Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova were there, also.

by Anonymousreply 487July 13, 2024 2:47 PM

Kate Middleton is supposed to attend the men's final

by Anonymousreply 488July 13, 2024 2:51 PM

And today Maria Sharapova headed back to SW19, this time as a guest in the Royal Box - just as she did last week on Day Three of the 2024 Championships.

The Russian, who hung up her tennis racquet as she retired in 2020, was joined by her fiance Alexander Gilkes in the posh seats to watch the ladies' singles final between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova on Centre Court.

The superstar couple are enjoying massive success in the business world with their growing empire.

by Anonymousreply 489July 13, 2024 2:53 PM

SO????

by Anonymousreply 490July 13, 2024 2:56 PM

Zendaya, Maya Jama, Anya Taylor-Joy, Tom Cruise and Pierce Brosnan also got an invite - but they were in the hospitality seats rather than the Royal Box.

by Anonymousreply 491July 13, 2024 2:56 PM

WE WERE INVITED BUT WE DECLINED!

by Anonymousreply 492July 13, 2024 2:57 PM

I feel like Krejcikova is fighting herself more than she’s fighting Paolini.

by Anonymousreply 493July 13, 2024 3:03 PM

C'mon Babs, pull it together!

by Anonymousreply 494July 13, 2024 3:04 PM

BOOBS OUT 4 BABS!

by Anonymousreply 495July 13, 2024 3:06 PM

"damn, bartoli is still so fat, she should go on ozempic?"

I didn't see her; I had turned it off right at the end of the match. Really? Bartoli had gotten super skinny after she retired, BEFORE the Ozempic craze. I'm surprised she didn't switch methods at some point. Or maybe she doesn't care.

by Anonymousreply 515July 13, 2024 6:38 PM

Wow! No-one saw that coming.

Chasing the whole match but pulled it out from behind in the final 2 set tie-breaks. The underdogs steal it!

Patten is beautiful.

His and Heliovaara's coach is Calvin Betton from the Tennis Unfiltered Podcast. He's a complete hoot.

by Anonymousreply 517July 13, 2024 7:49 PM

Harri Heliovaara is such a fabulous name.

It's like a drag name and an homage to the sun and a comment on his pubes and I don't know what else.

by Anonymousreply 518July 13, 2024 9:01 PM

Everything Harri does is so dramatic and flamboyant! It makes me want to set myself on fire!

I don’t know what to feel about Barbora over Jasmine. I guess I don’t really care. Slight edge to Jasmine, I guess. Obviously much more excited about Marfia vs. Novaxx.

by Anonymousreply 522July 13, 2024 9:11 PM

I was happy for Barbora. She played great tennis and did not have an easy draw. She seems 'no drama' on court and it must be really sweet to her to win a second major, on grass no less.

by Anonymousreply 523July 13, 2024 9:20 PM

WIMBLEDON's awful last 3 winners in the women's draw should make one wonder if grass needs to go. Or more tournaments on it? The US will have zero grass court events after this year's HOF. Tennis on grass is pleasing and I do love how it exposes players like Iga, Coco who just cannot master it.

by Anonymousreply 524July 13, 2024 9:29 PM

My new tennis drag name is Butt Collins.

by Anonymousreply 525July 13, 2024 9:31 PM

TayTay Townsend won a Wimbledon title

by Anonymousreply 526July 13, 2024 9:35 PM

I would love to see more tournaments on grass and another week between RG and Wimbledon.

I'm guess grass courts are not cheap or easy to maintain, and that's part of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 527July 13, 2024 9:35 PM

I was expecting to see Legz+ in his girlfriend's box (player's box) for the women's double's final. But alas, no. Siniakova will have to bump pussies with TayTay instead.

by Anonymousreply 528July 13, 2024 9:36 PM

LOL I was just think about Legz+ and wondering if he was gonna get some tonight.

by Anonymousreply 529July 13, 2024 9:37 PM

I can enjoy tournament.

by Anonymousreply 530July 13, 2024 9:40 PM

Probably no need to ask this:

Alcaraz (Garfia) team or Novaxx team?

by Anonymousreply 531July 13, 2024 10:00 PM

Gonzalez/Olmos team or Zielinski/Hsieh (bless you!) team?

by Anonymousreply 532July 13, 2024 10:02 PM

R520 Henry's the top!

by Anonymousreply 533July 13, 2024 10:12 PM

AHEM! Coco is the GOAT

by Anonymousreply 534July 13, 2024 10:56 PM

Garfia!

by Anonymousreply 535July 13, 2024 11:06 PM

omg, Taylor Townsend is fucking huge, she needs ozempic.

by Anonymousreply 536July 13, 2024 11:08 PM

Townsend and Siniakova were a blast. Townsend found some sick angles and Siniakova is brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 537July 14, 2024 1:15 AM

Is the men's final at 9:00 AM Eastern? I heard one report of 3:00 PM but that doesn't sound right.

by Anonymousreply 538July 14, 2024 1:20 AM

The repeat on ABC is at 3:00 p.m. It's live on ESPN at 9:00.

by Anonymousreply 539July 14, 2024 1:24 AM

Thank you, R539, I don't want to miss it. Fun!

by Anonymousreply 540July 14, 2024 1:31 AM

“I knew Chuck Suarez Navarro. I played mixed doubles against Chuck Suarez Navarro. You, Carlito, are no Chuck Suarez Navarro”.

by Anonymousreply 541July 14, 2024 1:44 AM

I’m happy for Taylor T. Good for her. Siniakova is a badass.

by Anonymousreply 542July 14, 2024 1:49 AM

Yeah, I'm really happy for Townsend. All the other women had already won Slam doubles titles. She's a classic journeywoman, so this is a nice career accomplishment.

by Anonymousreply 543July 14, 2024 3:04 AM

But is she grass specialist?

by Anonymousreply 544July 14, 2024 12:47 PM

by Anonymousreply 552July 14, 2024 2:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 561July 14, 2024 2:28 PM

Djokovic is being completely outplayed. I thought Alcaraz would win but not so comprehensively.

by Anonymousreply 562July 14, 2024 2:39 PM

Day 14

All the stars came out for the men’s final on Sunday (14 July). Kate Middleton made an appearance alongside her sister, Pippa. It’s the second event the princess has attended since revealing her cancer diagnosis.

Tom Cruise was also in attendance alongside his Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie, as well as actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter. Australian tennis pro Lleyton Hewitt was seated in the royal box as was London mayor, Sadiq Khan.

by Anonymousreply 563July 14, 2024 2:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 575July 14, 2024 3:39 PM

that was too easy and boring

by Anonymousreply 576July 14, 2024 3:39 PM

It was not boring (IMHO). Two sets of a Carlos masterclass and then a tough scrap in the third set.

by Anonymousreply 577July 14, 2024 3:45 PM

You see, this is class. Catherine not once acknowleging the applause for her, not once looking in to the camera, chatting with the ball kids .... she knows that her presence is only to draw attention to the event and to the Players.

by Anonymousreply 578July 14, 2024 3:46 PM

I'm glad Carlitos bowed to the Princess of Wales.

by Anonymousreply 579July 14, 2024 3:48 PM

Novaxx should get a farewell symphony of sad violins and trombones.

by Anonymousreply 580July 14, 2024 3:49 PM

Rafa and Roger clinking their champagne flutes on zoom...

by Anonymousreply 581July 14, 2024 3:50 PM

I wanted to see the 2, 2, and 4 blowout, but Alcaraz blew it from 40-0 up - a major hiccup, and then looked bad in the 5-5 return game. That said, was massively impressed he held it together mentally after blowing that chance and the letting the GOAT back in the match, won his service game at 5-6, and won the tiebreak. Still a comprehensive win. Kudos to him.

by Anonymousreply 582July 14, 2024 3:52 PM

He needed to shut up and let the champion speak.

by Anonymousreply 583July 14, 2024 3:52 PM
