Eva Marie Saint turns 100 tomorrow.

...Let there be dancing in the streets.

I met her when she did Love Letters at the Ogunquit Playhouse with her husband, Jeffrey Hayden (met him, too). They were nice, she had a very down to earth, somewhat sarcastic way about her. There were only a few people there. "I love North By Northwest, someone said. "Oh, you too?" I asked her for a hug and she said "Everyone want to hug me tonight."

There were plenty of people at the performance, I think it was sold out. I mean there were only a few people in the little waiting room where she and Jeff were hanging out.

I met her about 20 years ago. I told her I was in the same sorority as her and she said ‘oh, let’s do the secret handshake!’. And yes we did, she was lovely.

R2 Part of the unused Helen Rose wardrobe for NxNW. Hitchcock didn't like it and took her to Bergdorf Goodman, instead, as she says in the doc on the dvd.

I met her with my mom (that time in Ogunquit) and my mom was 5'4" - they were the same height. EMS was @ 2 or 3 years older.. But anyway, she was pretty short.

Was watching Rosemary Clooney on Tomorrow w/Tom Snyder - old interview on YouTube and Rosie said she was up for the part in On The Waterfront. So were Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Montgomery. I think Kelly may have been offered it because some histories say she chose to do Rear Window instead.

I liked Eva in Exodus and All Fall Down. The Russians Are Coming...She was good in The Sandpiper. Her part was apparently cut a lot in Raintree County, to give Elizabeth Taylor more screen time.

TCM's Star of the Month -- so lots of her movies -- as well as the AFI tribute to her -- to be shown in July.

I was watching the musical version of Our Town recently, with EMS and Paul Newman as George and Emily, and Frank Sinatra as the Stage Manager. It was pretty good. Eva and Paul sang well.

So young!

Olivia, you think I'm young.

by Anonymousreply 15July 4, 2024 3:27 PM

One Hundred Years old today!

My grandmother thought my mother, her DIL, looked like Eva Marie Saint. I never saw any resemblance.

I'm glad PEOPLE Magazine didn't curse her with a commemorative 'special 100th Birthday issue' two weeks before her birthday.

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2024 8:13 PM

OP, she sounds like a mean bitch.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2024 8:27 PM

She should take over from Livvie as our official "So young!" celebrity

by Anonymousreply 21July 4, 2024 8:29 PM

Nice they went to Bergdorf's but those designers should have been credited. The auction dress is a stunner. Why wouldn't they get a credit?

[quote]R3: sorority

Is that what you called it?

by Anonymousreply 23July 4, 2024 8:34 PM

OP, she sounds like Eva Marie No Saint.

by Anonymousreply 24July 4, 2024 8:35 PM

Damn, I missed Willard Scott wishing her a happy birthday on the Today show this morning.

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2024 11:06 PM

R22 Since Eva is the only one still alive you should write and ask her. Better not dawdle, though.

by Anonymousreply 26July 5, 2024 3:45 PM

65 years ago I doubt she'd remember. Some overworked people on 7th Av.

by Anonymousreply 27July 7, 2024 12:20 PM

I met her a few times in the late 90's. One of the nicest people ever. She is beautiful and humble with a great sense of humor.
