Biden Nomination Death Watch
The ground is starting to give way, the dam is beginning to break, choose your preferred crap cliché!
New polling across the battleground states is not looking good. More and more WH aides and Biden insiders are now leaking stories, saying Joe has been sundowning and doddering pretty badly for several months. House Dems are increasingly going on record, with more to join each day, saying it's time.
Add your updates as they happen, it could be an eventful news week.

You’re selling yourself short OP.
He may be forced to resign.
Probably tomorrow. Very symbolic. That is why the ABC News interview (recorded, not live) is Friday.

R1, interesting idea but no one is saying that. And it's the perfect setup for Kamala Harris if Biden withdraws and keeps the WH together from now to Jan 2025 as an elderly figurehead with everyone knowing his aides are doing it all -- and that frees up Kamala to campaign as Nominee.
Not a good look, and quite the opportunity for Trump to attack the status quo. But the alternative (Biden resigns and Kamala has to step in as actual President) would not allow her to campaign much if she's the nominee, and there has been a surge of chatter the past 48 hours about her becoming the nominee ASAP.

Any Democrat running for President will have a block of cement around their feet if Biden is deemed incapable of running for reelection but is still in the White House where Hunter is now sitting in on meetings. He will resign. Kamala gets to be Queen Charlotte for six months in exchange for not running for the nomination. Gavin Newsom’s campaign begins Saturday in Bucks County, announced yesterday so hastily they don’t have a location. Gavin is the nominee.

I saw that news story too R8 about Newsom coming to the East Coast. Interesting.
I love Biden but there's no possible way he can continue. He can't win the election.
The debate was his big chance and sadly, he absolutely blew it. He was everything the right say he is. Everybody could see it with our own eyes. The perception can't be corrected. He was a wonderful President.
If Biden is smart he will do this and go out with grace being respected and well loved - with millions grateful to him for saving us from Trump. But if he stays and loses - the Bidens will be blamed and loathed.
They have to pick someone new and throw everything into the "get to know you" campaign with Biden's full support. Looks like it might be Newsom.

Even Buttigieg would have a better chance. So he doesn't have the experience neither did Trump. He's likeable, intelligent and smart and cleans up well. Any reasonable, intelligent, younger Dem choice with a modicum of charisma who is already a bit known could get this. Michelle Obama would get most liberal votes and she'd energize the base of POC voters, they would still go for her. Don't forget, it's white men and women who are the problem: white men and women, in majority, always vote Republican.
Mayor Pete would be great as the VP choice - other than the gay thing, he knows how to present centerist and slightly left policy to conservatives in a way they can accept it, or at least live with it.
It's refreshing that at last, no one is putting 76-year-old Hillary forward. At least they've learned that.
Why isn't there a solid set of Gen X choices? Because the Silent Generation and Boomers still haven't let go? No one can move up until they move on.

Yes, highways were put through poor neighborhoods but let’s also remember that Robert Moses wanted to put a highway through Washington Square Park in NYC’s Greenwich Village. Biden needs to get angry. He needs to not wait until the Convention to become fiery, He needs to use the Convention as Part two of the attack on the Republican Party.
Plus, the attack needs to come in plain language.
I think Secretary Pete needs to be unleashed as an attack dog and go on the record saying things like Trump's Secretary of State, Tillerson, was right. When pushed, he has to say that Tillerson, who ran and runs a Fortune 500 company, was right when he called Trump a Fucking Moron. Use the words. Tillerson saw that Trump was nothing more than a Reality Game Show host way in over his head. He called out Trump as a fake.

Ah, but the Republican Party and its Big Business grip on the Main Stream Media need to be held to account. When they have focused the debate on Biden's appearance over Trumps bump stock of lies, there are problems with CNN.
I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH A PORN STAR!
OK, ONE LIE amongst the many and they let it slide.
But it was a big one.
Mr. Trump, you sat in a Courtroom in NY for weeks, heard the testimony of the porn star you now claim NOT to have had sex with, your defense team did not object to a single statement she said and went into disgusting details about your sexual act, and you have the nerve to DENY REALITY that you had sex with her? In front of the American people? In front of us? Are you saying that it wasn't sex, like Bill Clinton, when Ms. Daniels had your semen running down her leg or that she wasn't a Porn Star?
Because a jury found you guilty of Election Fraud based on her sworn testimony. Oh, and why didn't you take the stand to prove your innocence under oath?
Waiting Mr. Trump. Because, I will not sit here and ask neutral questions in order for you to lie and expect President Biden to address every one of those lies individually. We do not have the time.

[quote]Biden didn’t selfishly decide to run again. He made what seemed the best decision at the time and a self-sacrificing one at that.
The man knew his poll numbers were low and he knew he was physically declining. He’s constantly checking out to go cocoon himself in Wilmington and avoid his responsibilities. He’s done half as many press conferences as Trump and the least since Reagan. He only works 6 hours a day and yells and humiliates people so badly when they bring him bad news in his daily briefing that they avoid giving it to him.
This man does not want to be President. He wants to be KING. He wants to run for reelection because he wants to DIE in office like a KING. He cannot psychologically accept that he had at best a mid presidency after being so sure for 60 years that no one could do it better than him, that he needs to cast himself as the “savior of democracy” not once but twice in order to satiate his ego. He did not consult with anyone about his reelection besides viziers and toadies, whom have indulged him for four decades or more, including a crack addicted son and a wife so power-obsessed she would make Madame Chiang Kai-Shek blush, and who obviously planned to segue into a role in which she would be de facto regent once his mental facilities reached a point of no return. He failed to develop his vice president so he could use her inexperience and unpopularity as a leveraging tool against her replacing him in 2024. He embraced a political culture based on extreme secrecy, press manipulation and cryptofascist strongman worship while excoriating his rival for the same thing.

And Joe running like Trump is pure selfish ego. Though better because my politics MOSTLY align with his. But to say his running is selfless is beyond the pale. It's like saying a movie star is truly humble. But those pushing him to run is as they say beginning to look like elder abuse. At some point you have to take away the car keys no matter how angry they get. But the Dems have been proving to be very stupid as of late. They should have realized a year ago Biden was in poor health cognitively and it does not get better and thrown themselves before a more viable candidate.

The West Wing once addressed a similar though less pre-planned and pernicious situation. A dramatized one night coup vs an actual four year coup.

All I know is if he does bow out it must be within the next week. Because the longer he takes, IF HE DOES INDEED BOW OUT, it will be used against democrats and the candidate of why it took so long, accusations of misleading the public and even manipulating an old man. I’m not team bow out, I’m just throwing that out there. I personally think he should but I’m neutral. I’ll let the power players make that decision. [quote]The upcoming days will be closely watched as lawmakers return to Washington on Monday. Democrats from both chambers are expected to speak privately over the next few days — conversations that will likely serve as a venue to air their grievances over Biden’s performance and try to chart a path forward.
Jeffries will meet with Democratic ranking members on Sunday, and it’s expected that Biden’s viability will come up. And in the Senate, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) has approached Senate Democrats to organize a discussion on Biden’s path to reelection, while Schumer will hold a routine leadership meeting Monday night, which will allow him to meet face-to-face with several members of his caucus.
“Biden is a very decent human and a legendary leader in many ways. I have no doubt in his ability to make good decisions and finish out this term as POTUS,” said one House Democrat after Friday’s interview, granted anonymity to speak candidly. “But frankly, he’s just not up to simultaneously being POTUS and being a compelling reelection candidate. It’s too much for him, and while it’s obvious to pretty much everyone, he seems stubbornly blind to that reality.”

I have checked a few trustworthy news sources and the reaction has not been good to anything that's happening. Most people want him to step down. He's clearly not what he once was and most people see a very elderly man who should be getting ready to play with his grandkids in peace. Particularly the under 50 demographic. I find this whole thing sad but it is time. This should have been identified and all sorted out behind closed doors then announced. It shouldn't be happening publicly.
Whatever happens, needs to happen quickly. Senior Democrats are backgrounding him to the press and others are starting to come out publicly now. Apparently there is a letter from house Dems being prepared to Biden asking him to consider not running.

“Yes, I was given some questions for Biden,” Ingram told ABC News.
The host added that those questions prevented him from pursuing additional lines of inquiry.
“I didn’t get a chance to ask him all the things I wanted to ask,” Ingram said.
Ingram told ABC News that he was given five questions by President Biden’s aides. He ended up asking four of them in the course of a 17-minute interview in which Biden gave lengthy answers — including a response of nearly 7 minutes to his final question. Here were the questions:
1. Can you speak to some accomplishments that we may or may not be familiar with about your record, especially here in Wisconsin?
2. What’s at stake for Black voters this election?
3. A lot of people have been told their vote doesn’t matter. What can you say to them?
4. Let’s talk about the debate: Can you address some of the concerns about your performance and [former President Donald] Trump’s ridiculous remark about Black jobs?

Biden facing a perilous week in DC…
And to be clear R140, this is all happening because Biden’s only real job at the debate was to still seem age 77 like he was in 2020, and not a weak elderly person two steps from needing an assisted living facility.
He failed at that, and the whole nation saw it.
This has nothing to do with Biden’s political agenda — Harris would strive to continue that.

Since the press conference last evening, only a couple more Democratic Reps have gone on record saying Biden should quit. This "coming tidal wave" is not at all materializing yet.
