After a difficult process of elimination, I had to go with Sly and the Family Stone's "Hot Fun in the Summertime."
It's so glad and sad at the same time.

Vince Gill singing The Beach Boys "The Warmth of the Sun."
I know this is blasphemy. So what. But I didn't use the BB's version because, I think Gill sings it better than they do.

Summer Madness with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. It’s so uplifting to me.

^Summer Madness is Kool and the Gang’s original song and title which I love; Summertime is DJ and Will’s version.

"She Works Hard for the Money" - Summer of 1983 as it was in the Top 10 and trying to get to #1. I was shocked it never did - kept in third place by "What A Feelin' " by Irene Cara and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Great Top 3 for the summer of 1983.

Tall in the Saddle by Joan Armatrading. I don't know why, but it reminds me of a hot summer night

Other "summer" songs are Driver's Seat, Wild Night, The Boys Are Back in Town and this banger.

Summer of 1984. I was 17, going into my last year of high school and this song and video exploded. The video was so glamorous in a spare sort of way and the lyrics were so hip that we felt cool just listening to the song. Everything felt beautiful and possible.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 4, 2024 12:22 AM |
And here’s my correction post: Boys of Summer didn’t come out until October 1984, which now makes sense because I was screwing around with two golf pros at a country club and didn’t start there until September 1984. One of them and I used to quote this song all the time…in the Autumn of 1984, not the Summer.
