I am going to say that because he had a cold and we don't know how much it affected him, he had a few long days at Camp David, probably a long day the day of the debate, it was 9pm and he was probably exhausted, all attributed to his performance. Trump on the other hand probably sat around all day watching tv, making himself angry over whatever and was raring to go by the time the debate started.
