In answer to a question asked at the end of the last thread, no spelling doesn’t count in final.

Correct spelling is not necessary.

“Jeopardy! is not a spelling test — unless, of course, the category requires it,” it states on the show's website. “Written responses to the Final Jeopardy! clue do not have to be spelled correctly, but they must be phonetically correct and not add or subtract any extraneous sounds or syllables.”

Why didn't they show Drew's girlfriend in the studio audience? They showed his frat bros.

The show seems uneven as to when they show audience members.

Drew never said she was in the audience.

Would've preferred gay Andrew to Cat, but I'm fine with Drew's exit. Rather a lame night, no? Sad that Drew couldn't manage the obvious Final clue. Others I knew they didn't: San Francisco, Madison County, Joan Crawford, and Louisiana.

My local station ran Thursday night's show again (has happened before), so watched Friday's on Sat morning via You Tube.

Drew qualified for the TOC, but did not make near the cash haul of Adriana's $344K.

Drew should have his TOC ticket taken away for that shit show. It was fucking embarrassing from all three twelve year olds. Wicked Witch of the West????

The judges are so inconsistent in whether or not they rule mispronounced answers as correct. That guy Matt clearly said "larnyx" instead of "larynx," and his answer was ruled correct.

I was shocked at what I clearly heard as "larnyx" also! Final was easy, as were Yukon Territory and Yeoman of the Guard.

I'm pleased with the result as 30 minutes with Zoe was more than I could stans!

Zoe definitely seems to be "on the spectrum," and as far I can recall, she was one of the most bizarre contestants ever in the way she zig-zagged wildly back and forth between correct responses and really stupid, wrong ones.

Zoe kept distracting me. I kept wondering what her pronouns were.

FJ was easy, I guess, although I just said the Brothers Grimm, not the fairy tail part.

There was a part of me that wanted Zoe to win so that I could see the pressure take its toll on her. See her triggered right into the Alex Trebek wing of Institute of Living.

Yeah, I was curious how much of the final response was required beyond Brothers Grimm/Grimm Brothers....

"Brothers Grimm" or "Grimm Brothers" was not the name of the anthology, and that was the response required.

But would Tales of the Brothers Grimm be acceptable? Or Grimms' Fairy Tales? Or....?

In German, it’s Kinder- und Hausmarchen, which translates as Children’s and Household Tales—the word “fairy” is not in the title. But most translations call it “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” or some variation, so as long as someone gave an answer that they knew it was a volume of tales collected (not invented) by the Grimm Brothers, I assume the judges would have accepted it.

So was that the season finale? My tv guide says repeats the rest of the week.

I was hoping Zoe would pull through and win just to see her have a meltdown in the next episode.

Grimm’s Fairy Tales seemed so very obvious, I’m surprised Kat didn’t know it.

What sucks is that since 3/4 of the season was tournaments, that’s like what we’ll get for most of the summer.

Seriously. I tuned out for most of the tournaments. Why so many? It sucked.

I can only think the producers think audiences are more eager to tune in and watch contestants they already know.

We were all sick of it. Especially the second chance ones. I don't want to watch a bunch of losers again.

Honestly, why do some of you so dislike tournament games as opposed to regular game? Especially for rerun purposes?

It's like watching a repeat and filled with contestants everyone hated.

Pillow Talk is far more well-remembered than any film Bob Hope ever made and it's only one of several well-remembered films of Doris Day.

“Pillow Talk” was the only Doris Day movie cited in the clue, none of her others.

I wish the contestants would go back to the tradition of going from the top to bottom. I hate the searching for the daily doubles.

Can someone please explain to me as if I were an idiot: What exactly constitutes "searching for the Daily Doubles" as compared to not doing so? Since the players have no idea where the DDs are, how does it help them to skipping around the board rather than proceeding through one category at a time? The only exception I can think of is that, as far as I know, there can never be more than one DD in any one category., so if one has already been found in a particular category, a contestant search for the other one would of course want to go to another category than finish off the first one.

There aren’t DDs on the top line. Never. There isn’t more than one DD in any category. Also, lately, in the DJ round the DDs have tended to be under $800, $1,200 or $2,000.

"Tended" is one thing, but of course, there's no sort of rule to that effect. So the only way one can "search for Daily Doubles" is to avoid the top line and to switch out of a category if a contestant has already found a DD in it. Correct?

Anyway, why do you suppose it is that the DDs are apparently never in the top line?

They were never in the top line so that they wouldn't be found right away when no one had any money and they would make no difference to outcome. Defeating their purpose. Until the last couple of years it seemed it was the norm to start at the top of the category and work you way down. Now the contestants jump all over. It seems to totally ruin the flow of the show. That's just me I guess.

When you factor in all of the things that can happen with a Daily Double depending on when they're found, how players run through the board, etc., that makes very little sense to me.

It makes no sense to you that Daily Double would be of so much less importance if it was found at the top when everyone had 0 to 800 dollars? As opposed to it being a close match or someone betting it all to get back into the game? Jesus fuck. Stick with Wheel of Fortune.

The DD issue is really only confounding when there are, say about 6 possibilities left, and a contestant doesn't search for it. In other words, goes for a category where a DD has already been uncovered or goes for a top line category. Those both happen more than you'd think.

I understand that part of it, but if you're going to follow that logic to its extreme, then the Daily Doubles would only be hidden behind the highest dollar amounts of each category. In which case the contestants in search of the DDs when they wanted to find them would always choose the clues behind the highest amounts whenever they wanted to find the DDs.

And all of that is assuming that contestants are going to run through the categories from the lowest dollar amount to the highest, which is no longer true even if that used to e the case.

Issac is definitely one of the dorkiest champs we've had on in a long time. But he's a very knowledgeable dork. He sure has a lot to rub in his dad's face now.

I thought FJ was easy, if only because I thought of those Sinbad movies (like the 7th Voyage of Sinbad.)

I was amused that Karan, yesterday's Indian contestant, wrote his name in Hindi - if only because more than a few contestants in the past have used Chinese characters when writing their names.

I went to Middlebury and somehow knew that there would be a question about it when I saw the category. It’s just sort of “off-the-radar” enough that some people have never heard of it.

My friend (who also went there) and I were both surprised by the current enrollment number which is much higher than it was when we went there.

My great aunt was a Middlebury grad 100 years ago, Phi Beta Kappa at that.

The only Irving book I've read was [italic]A Son of the Circus[/italic]. Never saw the Garp film.

The 1982 film version of “The World According to Garp” is wonderful. A great adaptation of the novel. There are so many good performances.: John Lithgow, Glenn Close (both nominated), Robin Williams, Swoozie Kurtz, Amanda Plummer, Jessica Tandy, Hume Cronyn (who has one of my favorite lines in the film - “You raped a dying man!”).

I bet this is the race that Glenn Close got the closest to winning out of all her nominations actually.

That was a remarkable comeback by Neilesh after a very shaky start.

I did not get Final. But, got these they didn't as obvious to me: Canada (the clue said Western Hemisphere!), parchment paper (I don't even bake myself!), James River (site of ... Jamestown!), finally, the clue was looking for the name of a Philadelphia River related to a state, yet they all missed Delaware River?

I missed Monday's return episode due to a power outage in my neighborhood. By the time power was finally restored 12-hours later, Monday's episode has been removed from YouTube. Arggg!!

I was rooting for cute Mark and thrilled that he won. He seemed very dear and nervous. I'd love to comfort him. Nevertheless, couldn't believe that he didn't know Hillary Clinton was the obvious response to his first DD. I thought for sure after that he was going to lose.

Ryan seemed very low energy tonight. Well, actually he seemed very low energy every night. At least we won't have to see him return for ToC.

Final seemed rather obvious but oddly Mark was the only one who got Robinson Crusoe.

I immediately thought of Mutiny on the Bounty but the volcano in the clue did give me pause as I didn't remember a volcano figuring into the story. I also thought of John Ford's film The Hurricane, I think it's called, but then a hurricane is not a volcano.

The named volcano, "Tofua" didn't figure into the 1935 film. You'd have to know the location of the actual mutiny, which happened in that vicinity of the Pacific.

In real life, Tofua is the first place where Bligh and his loyalists landed to get provisions, They were there about five days before the natives turned against them and kicked them off by launching stones at them.

But it's doubtful many people know this, and that stop isn't covered in the film at all. We just see Bligh sailing away from the Bounty. There's some discussion about food and water; but soon after, he's writing in his journal that they've already been at sea 27 days.
