Another remake. Whoopie.

by Anonymousreply 1June 18, 2024 9:10 PM

It’s a SEQUEL. Not a remake.

by Anonymousreply 2June 18, 2024 9:12 PM

Whether it's a sequel or a remake - the original is 37 years old. Well over a generation ago - almost 2 generations, depending on how you measure generations.

Dragging Spaceballs out of mothballs now ls the equivalent of making a sequel to a 1950 movie in 1987.

by Anonymousreply 3June 18, 2024 9:57 PM

R3 which they’ve done. However, it’s a sequel. Not a remake. Regardless

by Anonymousreply 4June 18, 2024 9:59 PM

They tried to make Josh Gad happen a few years ago. It didn't happen.

by Anonymousreply 5June 18, 2024 10:27 PM

I think he works more behind the scenes than in front of the camera.

by Anonymousreply 6June 18, 2024 10:29 PM

It's my (millennial) son's favorite movie and I love it too. I am really excited about this. Is Mel Brooks still alive?

by Anonymousreply 7June 18, 2024 10:31 PM

Interesting. The first one was unwatchable and a box offfice bomb.

by Anonymousreply 8June 18, 2024 10:32 PM

It didn’t bomb. It underperformed in theaters but was a massive hit on VHS. This is what young people like you fail to realize, things were different back then. You shouldn’t put your nose where it doesn’t belong.

Back then a movie could flop in theaters and then make hundreds of millions via VHS rentals and sales. Digital has killed that extra revenue for filmmakers and studios, and part of why it’s harder for them to make money now.

A couple of years ago Mel did a Netflix series "Illusory of the World, Part II" and it stunk. Not a laugh to be had in the entire series.

He doesn't have it anymore.

Hilstory

by Anonymousreply 11June 18, 2024 10:55 PM

Christ, they're both hard to look at in 2024.

Spaceballs was a parody of the original Star Wars.

We already have three sequels to Spaceballs.

They're called The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

R9 For example, SHOWGIRLS (1995) was a massive flop in theaters but was a huge bestseller when it was released on VHS several months later.

by Anonymousreply 14June 21, 2024 2:06 PM

i wonder why it never got revised, after a fipm flopped in theatres l but thrived in rentals, in the mwdias eyes it was still seen as a flop forever more.

by Anonymousreply 15June 21, 2024 2:38 PM

Josh? Gad!

by Anonymousreply 16June 21, 2024 3:11 PM

Josh Gad? wtf.

by Anonymousreply 17June 21, 2024 3:31 PM

Anyone who’s seen the Spaceballs cartoon series knows this will end in tears.

by Anonymousreply 18June 21, 2024 3:55 PM

At last!

by Anonymousreply 19June 21, 2024 4:00 PM

No thanks. This will be an inferior attempt at recapturing the original's magic and failing miserably.

by Anonymousreply 20June 21, 2024 4:12 PM

What it may lack of the original's magic I'm certain it will more than make up in vulgarity and wokeness.

by Anonymousreply 21June 21, 2024 4:30 PM

Is he going to play Barf?

by Anonymousreply 22June 21, 2024 4:33 PM

Oh, thank God!

The newfound popularity of this film the last 20 years came as a real shock to me. I saw it in the movie theaters when it was released and I didn't love it.

I recently re-watched it and it's fine - I just don't get the fandom. But I'm a lot older obviously.

Feels like a stoner teenage/college movie that got legs and just continued.

I'm fine with a sequel - God knows they've put out much worse shit.

by Anonymousreply 25June 12, 2025 5:30 PM

The Family Guy Star Wars parodies were better. Hell, Robot Chicken did better.

by Anonymousreply 26June 12, 2025 5:43 PM

Apparently busy Daphne Zuniga has agreed to reprise her role as Princess whoever. You know she was probably yelling through the gates of Mel Brooks' home at 5:30 in the morning - "I'm AVAILABLE - I'll DO IT MEL!!"

I saw the trailer for this - it said coming in 2027!!! I hope Mel can hold on until then. He's 98 already! Although he looked GREAT in the trailer.
