Alison Moyet releasing a new album in 2024

KEY will be released in the fall.

Two new songs as well as reworkings of some of her solo songs from over the years, both recognizable hits as well as songs she felt didn't get the spotlight the first time.

ALL CRIED OUT is one of the tracks she's released.

She'll be back on tour, too.

I have to say, I am LOVING this new song.

OH! And it's her birthday today. She's 63 years old! Happy birthday!

Porn star Francois Sagat is her cousin.

AUTUMN, OP, AUTUMN

by Anonymousreply 3June 18, 2024 6:55 PM

Can't wait, I was just wondering the other day about her. I hope it's as depressing as Other, I appreciate that album/song more and more with each passing year

R2 Isn't that a trip?

Autumn!

She should put the weight back on. The original Ozempic face, pre-Ozempic.

And Vince Clarke doesn’t get enough credit.

by Anonymousreply 7June 18, 2024 8:16 PM

I will be checking this out. Yaz has always had a special place in my heart. Her solo stuff is good, too.

by Anonymousreply 8June 18, 2024 8:21 PM

Credit for what? They did one album together 40 years ago and she's been a solo artist ever since.

Correction: 2 albums obviously.

by Anonymousreply 10June 18, 2024 8:24 PM

Vince Clarke gets plenty of credit. But they've both gone on to do other things and she hasn't made music with him for 40 fucking years.

A truly bizarre statement.

One thing of note is that Alison's re-recording of All Cried Out will generate revenue for songwriter Steve Jolley of Jolly & Swain, who is a convicted paedo.

He also gets money from Bananarama's Cruel Summer and Robert de Niro.

All Cried Out should be sped-up with some synthesizers added. Or better yet, just cover the Lisa Lisa song.

Upstairs At Eric's is one of my all-time favorite albums.

by Anonymousreply 14June 19, 2024 1:19 AM

The new album is out on Friday.

There's been a final preview song released, the reworking of WHERE HIDES SLEEP which IMHO is the best one thus far.....really lent itself to an update.

She's been doing "40 Moyet Moments" which are interesting deep dives on various albums/songs. Also a livestream was on today. All interesting stuff.

It's a shame she was never a star in the US. She was too fat for MTV.

by Anonymousreply 17September 30, 2024 6:59 PM

Fuck, she looks amazing for 63

The weird ass videos her record company made didn't help.

by Anonymousreply 19September 30, 2024 6:59 PM

I have always loved her voice. My mother loved her, and played her CDs often.

by Anonymousreply 20September 30, 2024 7:03 PM

No matter how thin she gets she still sounds fat. Fat. Fat. Fat.

by Anonymousreply 21September 30, 2024 7:09 PM

Luff huh ❤️

by Anonymousreply 22September 30, 2024 7:21 PM

No point to this album. It sounds like a tour album. There’s nothing new here. Just bad versions of her own songs. After 7 years she should be releasing a new studio album. This is crap.

by Anonymousreply 23September 30, 2024 7:33 PM

Her previous two techno albums were the best of her career. This is bad.

by Anonymousreply 24September 30, 2024 7:33 PM

A gal's gotta eat.

by Anonymousreply 25September 30, 2024 7:33 PM

I don't like her disco stuff, I like her depressing poetry albums more, which weirdly help me deal with my own depression; they're sublime and I can't wait to hear this one.

by Anonymousreply 26September 30, 2024 7:36 PM

R19 Did they dress her as a welder as they did poor Ann Wilson?

by Anonymousreply 27September 30, 2024 8:13 PM

The Moyet Moments podcast is great, although annoying they're only 10-15 minutes long.

She's incredibly articulate and has a fantastic way of words. She doesn't sugar coat anything, any of her relationships or thoughts about people. She's blunt but not bitchy.

by Anonymousreply 28September 30, 2024 8:34 PM

Apparently she's working on a new album with the same guy that did The Minutes, so that's something to look forward to......

by Anonymousreply 29September 30, 2024 9:23 PM

Purchased the digital version of Key this morning.

I'm a big Alison fan.....am glad to have this but it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the better known songs don't sound great in their reworkings, but I'm enjoying some of them very much (My Best Day, World Without End). Is This Love has been slowed down considerably....I didn't like the original much and like this version but others may not.

Guessing this is pretty much her set list for the 2025 tour and how the songs will be arranged, so there's that.

Was happy to spend $10 for the digital tracks but am not spending $50 for the vinyl.

by Anonymousreply 30October 4, 2024 3:28 PM

She's 63 but her voice sounds like 83 yo warbling.

by Anonymousreply 31October 4, 2024 3:32 PM

r30 Thanks for the heads up. I love her, but she's definitely like many artists - some great stuff, some real clunkers, and everywhere in between.

by Anonymousreply 32October 4, 2024 3:32 PM

I used to love her life stuff. I remember she was fantastic with Paul Young at Live Aid. I love this performance on Letterman.

I'll add that my quibbles, such as they are, are similar to last year's Everything But The Girl album.

With both Alison and EBTG they can do little wrong in my eyes artistically, and I'm willing to go on a journey with them.

But with both.....I guess the budgets were nonexistent because the electronica on some songs sounds like it was programmed on a Fisher Price synthesizer. One misses a guitar or piano here and there.

R31 Can't agree totally but she's definitely got more of a vibrato on those high notes.

by Anonymousreply 34October 4, 2024 3:36 PM

When did Alison do disco??

by Anonymousreply 35October 4, 2024 3:39 PM

I do like this. This version was essentially what she did in 2017 on the Other tour.

Her last two electronic albums are the best of her career! I see no point to this new one.

by Anonymousreply 37October 4, 2024 3:39 PM

R37 Based on what she's said in her podcast, I think she really wanted to tour, wanted and needed to work, and promoters weren't willing to book shows without an album (something she's promoting).

She'd spent the last few years getting a university degree (sculpting) and she and her team wanted to mark the 40th anniversary - so she didn't have time to write and create a whole new album, so I guess the decision was made to do this revisiting of older songs.

I wish there had been a new album, for sure. Supposedly there will be one in the next year or so.

by Anonymousreply 38October 4, 2024 4:03 PM

I loved ALF. INVISIBLE is one of my favorite karaoke songs.
