I read this morning that he is completely of the theater -- one who loves Broadway and one who Broadway loves back. He's cute.

Groff is perfectly adequate in Merrily, but really not remarkable in any way. I don't understand the acclaim for this reasonable revival of a dreary show. I guess it hit the moment and zeitgeist right on time as the feel-bad, emo show that it is.

What's the definition of "deserve" in the context of awards, anyway? It's not the Olympics. It's (obviously) a subjective thing about which actor will win which award. But, I fail to see how a highly successful actor who continually comes back to the theatre, who has an obvious love of the artform and of the community, who seems to be beloved by his colleagues and who continually earns acclaim in his performances -- including this one -- is undeserving.
