Sweet Angie, our Angel of the night. I always hoped that after her two strokes, there was still one more comeback left in her, but now it’ll have to happen on the spirit side
Sounds like Tonight I Give In to the tears 😭

At least Juice is still alive, she of the superior angel song. Got me frightened there for a moment as I read your post.

I remember her BET "Unsung" episode.

Aw, that's sad. This got a lot airplay back in the day.

Did BILL TAYLOR change his name and become her manager?

Wonderful vocalist I had the pleasure of seeing live in Chicago.

This made me sad when I saw the announcement this morning. I always loved "I'm On Your Side".

A natural and unique beauty in her youth

Shut up R2. Some of us prefer Angela and this is NOT the thread to bash someone who was loved by folks posting here. How tone deaf can you be?
I played her music all the time while I was deployed. I loved her as much as I did Stephanie, Phyllis and both Pattis.

I’m sorry to read this today. My favorite Bofill song is a single released in 1984 - Can’t Slow Down is a jam!

She was lovely and a wonderful singer.
Love the. Arson clip at r7: she walks out stiff and uncomfortable, but even just a few notes in, she knows she’s in her element and takes command.
I knew she’d been in very poor health, but 70 is way too soon. I wish she’d been able to record and perform longer.

I always mixed her up with Karla Bonoff (who I always mix up with Karla DeVito)

I loved her. Beautiful woman, beautiful voice.

Wonderful artist, somewhat sabotaged by Clive Davis’ plan to get her to write fewer of her own songs and make her fit his banal diva-fetish concept.

He also got on Angela when she gained weight.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 15, 2024 7:53 PM |
I imagine if she’d stayed at GRP, the outcome would have been better. Her first two albums charted better than anything she did for Arista. And Clive getting at her for weight gain probably made the weight gain worse.

R15 he did that with Melissa Manchester too
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 15, 2024 8:38 PM |
R18 and Phyllis. And he tried it with Patrice Rushen

Phyllis posing nude for OUI magazine didn't help matters any. Angela did make some lovely songs with Narada Michael Walden. Once Whitney came on the scene, it was almost like Clive pulled a Berry Gordy and threw all of his energy behind her, neglecting the other acts.

Sad news. Always liked her.
Definitely underappreciated, mismanaged and mishandled like Miss Hyman.

I know the name but don't think I ever heard any of her music in the 70s and 80s. I don't think she made it to pop radio in my area.

I'm still here!

I saw her at Belmont Race Track in 1980 at an early daytime outdoor show......
admission was $2.00, to get the crowd in early..... We were up close, I remember her vividly, and the NYC crowd loved her.
RiP ANGIE

R20 I’m surprised Phyllis’ nudes went down so badly; it’s not like she was going those showing-pink close-ups. And her music hadn’t been targeted at the kiddie market.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 16, 2024 8:46 AM |
this was the series that Angela was part of / a different summer / they drew top acts /
admission for summer outdoor events across the tri state area was unbelievable....
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 16, 2024 7:10 PM |
I’m getting misty listening to her music on my YouTube channel…memories…

R26 I read somewhere that Phyllis was in negotiations with Clairol and they were not happy about the photos.

OMG Charlene is going to be next isn't she? At least Charlene had a hit.

[quote] At least Charlene had a hit.
So did Neneh Cherry.
Two, in fact.

Please let it not be Patrice Rushen or Patti Austin. I want the reaper to stay well away from those two. And Lonette McKee.

I've been thinking a lot about Patti Austin since Quincy Jones died.
